@Kopell i have updated the tread to the point of capping the foundation block at DPC level and also with Cost update. Presently we are doing backfilling, and septic tank using the sand to fill, i will update the tread later. Tx |

The question I answered was whether sharp sand is a more suitable material for back-filling a foundation, of which I gave a positive answer.GOOD AND LOGICAL POINTS FROM BOTH PARTIES. SURE COARSE AGGREGATES IS THE BEST FOR SAND FILLING CHECK MOST OF THE ROADS ON GOING PRESENTLY IN LAGOS AND I WANT TO BELIEVE IN NIGERIA GENERALLY, THEY ARE ALL USING SHARP SAND FOR THE BASE. SHARP SAND COMPRESSES EASILY AND IT REMAINS COMPRESS, IT RESIST LATERALL PRESSURE THAN ANY OTHER SAND. BUT DIORDAVE IS EQUALLY MAKING 2 VALID POINTS THAT SHOULD BE CLEAR TO US ALL, IF YOU FILL WITH SHARP SAND IN AN AREA WITH HIGH WATER TABLE LEVEL BECAUSE OF ITS HIGH CAPILLARITY ABILITY IT WELL IN DAMPEN YOUR HOUSE VERY WELL, BUT YET THERE IS A SOLUTION TO DAMPNESS (DPM, WATER PROOFING ADMIXTURES ETC). SECOND POINT IS THAT WHEREEVER SHARP SAND IS USED FOR FILLING WE SHOULD ENSURE THAT THERE WONT BE ANY UNDERMINING (I:E THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY AVENUE FOR WATER TO PERCOLATE THRU UNDERNEAT THE FDN) IF THIS HAPPENS THE SHARP SAND IS WEAK IN THIS ASPECTS AS IT WILL NATURALLY WASHED OUT AND LIVING SOME PART OF YOUR FDN EMPTY AND CAVING IN CAN OCCUR ON THE SLAB |
to prevent algae growth , pressure wash your stones occasionally, in most cases the beauty of stones is better when it is averagely level than having it sloppy if you do not want to the slope method or you already have your stone on a plane level then pressure wash. |

@olubuffet this is just a bungallow and we do not have the intention of raising it, the foundation is filled solid and we are using 9 inches block externally and some critical wall internally. The lintel will be a ring beam. this is just adequate fro bungalow. @Kopell Yes segcymore is right, and it is even the best where you have the height of your foundation block is more than five courses. |
Outrageous contract cost. Obafemi Awolowo road in Ikorodu was Re awarded to Arab contractor for 1.95B, a road that the previous contractor has worked on to some extent, and the entire road is less than 2 kilometers, No bridges, No Outrageous filling or culvert is really needed on this road, the entire lenght and breadth of this road is firm ground. Wonders shall never end!!! |

We are budgeting about 15 trips of 10 tons of laterite which is being currently sold btw 11K and 12K in Ikorodu. Soonest we are doing this, once the client is ready. |

Ongoing work are majorly external work, which include Generator house, drain, compound filling and interlocking pave, Inspection chamber I will like to specifically share a detail onsite production process and cost.

Firstly the Internet modem issue. we also dashed out to attend to some of our ongoing project especially the one at Arepo, we are presently working on some things wish i will share on the tread of the Arepo Project. Nice Job Mr spyder, the head room at the upper floor is quite very high, of course not bad at all but it is not so at the ground floor. i think there ground floor should also have been treated equally fifty fifty no cheating. or are you trying to create a panic room up there? have a blessed day. |
mufutau55: So, there is no linkage between the two Flats at all? I would have put another iron door on the fence by the main buidling where the car is park in front..we intend to use Glass block around that area, but i am having a second thought we might consider burglary cos of ventilation. |

Day 3and 4 work: we broke the ground: excavation was done. it took us two days to complete this excavation as we have to cut all the block lines because we are not planning to do a German floor. One of the advantage of the German floor is that where you have a light load say 6 inches partition wall that is not really long, such can be set out after the German floor. pics will come up later. Also we took delivery of 10 tons sharp sand and 15 tons granite for the strip foundation casting tomorrow meanwhile below is the floor plan of the project where are working on,designed by one of the young bravest architect of our time.

The drill used in drilling this borehole was a locally made and pretty fast in drilling and it can go farther than the normal hand drilling. There was a time we had a challenge on borehole drilling in one of our site the first borehole contractor ran away after we have spent close to about 250k because they ve drilled over and over without success. we decided to do a geophysical test and the test recommended we are t drill 330ft to get to aquifer. and the cost was over a million naira. Later this man showed up and boasted he will do it for 250k no body believed him and he sign an agreement for a total refund in case he fails, but to day the rest is a good story 2 years running the borehole is still functioning perfectly well. @Kopell you are highly welcome on this tread. Like i said on Oga spyder tread that i have been learning silently. initially i do not want to blog this project because we are just taking it to DPC level only and i do not know how soon the client will continue the work, but i discovered that there are some question that was raised on Mr Syder's tread about dampness which i feel i have a little idea which i want to apply here that might be help someone out there. you cannot exert a vertical pressure on sharp sand contained inside a foundation. The sharp sand, when poured into a foundation, held in place by the foundation walls cannot compress any further, the trick is the coarseness. Water, or other weather agents like air cannot affect the sharp sand inside a foundation. Sharp sand is permeable to air and water but hardly compresses downwards.
