cjrane: Man know man will kill the privatization program.
The determination of Sambo and GEJ to hand over Enugu electricity disco to their friend and financier Emeka Offor will make the man feel like he does not have to obey any rules since he knows the VP. Besides, such man know man corruption is the reason why previous attempts at privatization have failed.
I can remember this is how Emeka Eze tried to derial the Manitoba contract and even missiled the president to almost take a wrong decision...but the president was quick to realize that the power sector reforms was central to his administration's success and consequently did the right thing.

So whether Sambo and Benjamin Dikki are conspiring to do a dirty deal..I am confident that GEJ will step in and not allow these guys to derail his cardinal program...Dikki should remember dis privatization procees consumed Ms.Bolanle onagoruwa....so he should thread cautiously

Bottom Line: Mr Osita Okechukwu has acknowledged that the FG is going the right direction as regards the power sector and doesn't want the South East to be left behind in this transformation
Politics › APC Urges FG To Ensure That Reserve Bidder Takes Over Enugu Disco by awodman(op): 6:42am On Sep 05, 2013
Meanwhile, the South-east zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed outrage with federal government's handling of the privatisation of the Enugu Electric Distribution Company.

The party, in a statement issued by Chief Osita Okechukwu, accused the government of playing politics with the privatisation of Enugu Disco, by favouring Interstate Electric Limited, promoted by Chief Emeka Offor, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) financier, whose company  failed woefully to meet up with the payment of 75 per cent balance deadline of August  21.

Okechukwu said: "The government has refused to invite the reserved bidder against the rules and regulations guiding the privatisation exercise. We are amazed that President Jonathan is looking the other way, while the vice-president wants to grant 21 days grace to Interstate which has demonstrated incapacity to source the bid fund; instead of inviting the reserve bidder, Eastern Electric Ltd as provided by the law.

"The buck stops at the table of Mr. President and he cannot feign ignorance of the culture of impunity enveloping the privaisation of ENDISCO, the life wire of the enterprising Igbo people. If Interstate cannot easily pay $93.24 million, tell me how it can fund the upgrade of the distribution network?

Okechukwu said the party was in agreement with Mr. Atedo Peterside of the NCP, who had advised that the preferred bidder be disqualified.

"We instead turn to the reserve bidder in order to maintain the integrity of the process. Our worry is that our people are enterpreneurs and are earnestly yearning for improved and accelerated power supply, which Interstate lacks the capacity to provide.

"APC is compelled to ask, as our commonwealth is being handed over in less than transparent ways and manner; where is Ohaneze Ndigbo, the South-east Governors' Forum chairman, Mr. Peter Obi, who is the governor of Anambra State and co-travelers who crawl day and night in support and even endorsed President Jonathan for 2015?

"APC once more wishes to caution Ndigbo on the ravish support they give to PDP in the last 14 years, which events have proved to be wasted and inconsequential; otherwise how can Interstate promoted by one man be preferred over Eastern Electric promoted by the five South-east governments?" he queried.

This ωнεяε Dangote's words...
awodman: “Without good government policies, there is no way the private sector can invest in Nigeria, because we are not Father Christmas at all. The policies have to be right,” he said.

He also stated that with the signing of the agreement, about 85,000 Nigerians at the initial stage and 8,000 engineers would be employed, adding, “When you look at what is now happening to Shell Petroleum and others, this policy is better for us.”

“We want to export petroleum products rather than export crude oil. This is the biggest largest single investment in Africa ever. No more importation of fuel and other bye-products of petroleum.

“Your policies have helped us greatly. Without them, we will not be where we are today,” Dangote said.

“The certificate is one of the documents handed over to the national chairman by the immediate past National Working Committee to the new NWC led by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur on assumption of office after the March 24, 2012 national convention. It is absurd to say that it is missing,” Metuh said.

Surely the different financial reforms carried out by successive govts is paying off...Imagine Nigerian banks largely financed the current completion of payment for the privatized power assets and are also now financing Dangote's refinery....This goes to show our banks are strong and doing great..and the benefits of this to the economy needs not be overemphasized..
Politics › Dangote Visits Jonathan After Signing Refinery Loan Deal by awodman(op): 7:56pm On Sep 04, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan pledged Wednesday in Abuja that his administration will keep on implementing policies and measures that will continuously improve the operating environment for entrepreneurs and investors in the Nigerian economy.

Speaking at an audience with the President of the Dangote Group and leading Nigerian investors and bankers, President Jonathan said that his administration was fully committed to progressively removing all major impediments to greater investment in Nigeria such as inadequate infrastructure and unsteady power supply.

The President applauded plans by the Dangote Group to build Africa’s largest refinery, petro-chemicals and fertilizer manufacturing complex in Nigeria and thanked the consortium of banks who are providing a $3.3 billion credit facility for the project.

President Jonathan also expressed the Federal Government’s appreciation of the great support being given by Nigeria’s private sector to the implementation of his administration’s agenda for national transformation.

Noting that the Dangote Group’s massive investment in refining, petrochemicals and fertilizer production will contribute significantly to the attainment of government’s priority objective of job creation, the President thanked him and the Chief Executives of the Nigerian banks that are helping to finance the project for being patriotic and having the confidence to invest in their own country.

“We are pleased that you are now investing in refining, petro-chemicals and fertilizer production. It is the downstream sector of oil and gas that can really create many jobs. Your interest and investment in that area will help in the area of job creation which we have been emphasizing. You are also helping us to move away from being a mere producer of raw materials by adding value to our natural resources,” he told Alhaji Dangote and members of his delegation.

Alhaji Dangote who led the team from his company, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and Nigeria’s leading banks had earlier told the President that they were at the Presidential Villa to thank him for his administration’s policies which have greatly encouraged further investments in Nigeria.

“Your policies have helped us greatly. Without them, we will not be where we are today,” the President of the Dangote Group told President Jonathan.

He said that the refining, petro-chemicals and fertilizer complex planned by his Group will make Nigeria a net exporter of petroleum products including diesel and aviation fuel, as well as poly-propylene and fertilizer.

Alhaji Dangote who came on the visit to the President after the signing of the loan agreements for the complex was accompanied by Chief Executives of participating banks including First Bank of Nigeria, UBA, Stanbic-IBTC, Zenith Bank, Access Bank, Ecobank, Fidelity Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank and Rand Merchant Bank.

Alhaji Dangote hailed the signing of the financial support agreement as a milestone in the industrialization of Nigeria. “It shows that there’s great confidence in the Nigerian economy and quite a lot of appetite for investment in our country,” he said.

Others on his delegation included Chief Kola Jamodu, Mr. Femi Otedola, Mr. Jim Ovia and management executives of the Dangote Group.

Pls get yours facts, I can't keep feeding you info.
Maybe reading this will help you understand tharqa's post better..
awodman: .....It said Wednesday in Abuja that Nigeria’s actual crude oil loss to theft had for a while hovered around 49,000 barrels per day (bpd) as against the often quoted figure of 400,000bpd depending on the level of criminal activities recorded at a particular production point within the Niger Delta region....

.... “It is important that we clarify the actual figures
being put out as crude oil stolen in the country. By the
calculations of the OPTS, what we record as loss due to
theft is about 49,000bpd and further production shut-in
due to pipeline sabotage....

......“There is what is referred to as deferment and outright theft of crude oil; the figure as at today is that 49,000bpd is lost to theft while about 350,000bpd is shot-in, that means production from a particular sabotaged line is stopped and the companies declare a force majeure; this figure is specific to the IOCs except for the NPDC.”.....

Politics › Three Shot As APC Factions Clash Violently In Ekiti by awodman(op): 10:01pm On Aug 26, 2013
A federal lawmaker accused supporters of the Ekiti
Governor of causing the violence.

Three people were shot after armed supporters of two
factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Monday,
clashed in Ekiti.

Seven people have been arrested in connection with the
clash which began last Friday between supporters of
Opeyemi Bamidele, representative of Ekiti Federal
Constituency at the National Assembly and Dipo Akinwumi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in the state.

Mr. Bamidele, who also belongs to the APC, is nursing a
governorship ambition in the 2014 election.

Both groups had earlier clashed on Friday at the burial
ceremony of Felicia Akinwumi, mother of Mr. Akinwumi.

The offices of both Messrs Bamidele and Akinwumi were
vandalized in the ensuing violence which also left several
people injured.

Mr. Bamidele, however, blamed the violence on the
supporters of Kayode Fayemi, the Ekiti State governor,
allegedly led by Deji Adesokan, Special Assistant on
Internal Security to Mr. Fayemi.

In a statement on Monday, Mr. Bamidele described the
“war” from the state governor’s camp as an attempt to
break the “unflinching solidarity and support” of his
supporters.

The statement signed by Ahmed Salami, Mr. Bamidele’s
Media Assistant, identified the three people that were shot at Iyin-Ekiti as Ola Fatokun (shot in the hand); Rasaki Bello (shot in the stomach); and Ige Adeola, (shot in the back).

It further stated that Monday’s violence was a continuation of last Friday’s havoc caused by Mr. Adesokan (popularly known as Jarule) and Tajudeen Awe, another aide to the governor.

Efforts to reach Olayinka Oyebode, Mr. Fayemi’s Chief Press Secretary, were not successful. Phone calls and text
messages were not responded.

Mr. Bamidele’s statement accused the governor’s men of
invading Iyin Ekiti, on Friday, with a detachment of thugs,
coordinated by one Niyi Adedipe, and brandishing
weapons.

“More than ten people were wounded with a total of six
cars destroyed in a Gestapo like operation by the anti-
people’s army obviously being funded under the command of Deji Adesokan and Major Tajudeen Awe,” Mr. Bamidele said.

“In a most daring manner, the Jarule and Awe led terror
machine moved from Iyin Ekiti straight to Honourable
Michael Opeyemi Bamidele’s campaign office in Ado Ekiti
and completely vandalized the office causing inestimable
damages.

“It is unbelievable that such an act of terror can be
happening in broad day light at a time that the nation is
enforcing a state of emergency to stem the perpetration of terrorism and guarantee the security of lives and property in some other parts of the country,” he added.

While calling on Mr. Fayemi to call his men to order, Mr.
Bamidele said that the “extra-judicial attacks and
bloodsheds” would not deter him from the 2014
governorship race.

“We are determined by grace of God to run a decent, issue based, people friendly and scientific campaign that would clearly show that we have the maturity, the cognate experience, courage, divine favour and strength of character that is needed to fill the leadership vacuum and rally all stakeholders together to move Ekiti forward,” Mr. Bamidele said.

@Op, a good proposal if you ask me, there's no way in hell the current rail transportation can be revolutionize and modernize without the upgrading the decrepit train Stations scattered across the country.

News before now was that the federal government, through the Ministry of Transport, prepared a draft bill to amend the 1957 Railway Act to allow for private sector participation. The bill has been approved by the National Council on Privatization and will soon be submitted to the National Assembly.

But so far, nothing of such has surfaced at the House. The government should also put into consideration the slow pace of legislative procedures and get the draft bill submitted Asap. Nigerians are yearning for change in all spheres and pu.ss.yfooting on important bills as this won't really cut the ice ...
