PoliticsDangote Subsidiary To Build Africa’s Largest Food Processing Plant In Nigeria by awodman(op): 11:19am On Sep 25, 2013
VENTURES AFRICA – In line with Nigeria’s agricultural transformation programme, Dansa Group, a subsidiary of Dangote group of companies has says it will set up a
$48.5 million high energy food processing plant – the largest in Africa – in the country.

According to Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Akinwunmi
Adesina, Dansa Group President, Sanni Dangote, made this known at the meeting of a High Level World Advisory
Group in New York which had global leaders like Bill Gates, former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, Dr Donald Kaberuke (AfDB President) and Dr Kanayo Nwanze (President , International Funds for agriculture) in
attendance.

Akinwunmi, who revealed this on the sideline of the 68th
session of the United Nations General Assembly in New
York on Monday, told journalists that the world leaders are
interested in Nigeria’s agricultural transformation as they
recognise the need for the country to diversify into other
sector of the economy.

“As I have said many times, this is not a populist issue. We are seriously restructuring this sector for greater
performance because the future of Nigeria is not in oil but
in agriculture. It is not the agriculture in the way we have
been doing it before but now as a business.”

The Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) was
launched in 2012 to make Nigeria a global powerhouse in
agriculture. Akinwunmi said the transformation programme have helped create about 3.2 million jobs and helped Nigeria reduce food bill by N800b ($4.9 billion).
He said Bill Gates is already spending millions of dollars in
Nigeria to support this agenda while the African
Development Bank is committing in $5oo million.

“All these are World leaders who will not waste their time
on what is not working,” the Minister said.

I'm one of the 522 recently employed engineers in TCN. The recruitment was conducted by external consultants not by Govt directly. Yes the quota system was used (if it isn't used, some educationally-challenged zone will complain of marginalisation) and to be best of MY KNOWLEDGE merit was then used.
I do not know anyone in Govt before someone accuses me of being a beneficiary of godfatherism.
And I hope there will be an conducive environment for d new system to succeed (hence d massive clear-out with good pay-off package) cos I don't want to be part of failure.
So abeg pray for us new guys going there for us to succeed in dis massive task. Cos let's face it, stable electricity supply is for everyone's benefit, no need to play d political card here, it shdn't be a privilege but a bare necessity in d modern age.

software man: of all the NIPP(now niger delta holding company) plants only sapele and olorunsogo stands a good chance of being commisioned before 2015(there is no guarantee that it will even be available to the national grid) Most of the others are at mostly 20% completion stage.

The truth is that even if olorunsogo(750MW) and sapele (450mv) come on stream , there is no transmission capacity to handle it as most transmission expansion projects are still at mostly 20% completion.
Care to substantiate your allegations above because according to the NDPHC 7 of this plants are ready..Even Gov Fayemi of ekiti attested to this

* For the 2010-2011 fuel subsidies, GEJ granted an executive fiat to corruption and made a god out of graft. FACT!
* Do you get to buy fuel at the fixed price everywhere in the SE? NO!

* On the privatization of PHCN, the winners of the bidding exercise are PDP sponsors, business allies of those in government. FACT!
* Did the extended window granted to Interstate and North-West raise objections? Yes!
* Did major newspapers report that Emeka Offor's Interstate is backed by influential figures in the Villa? Yes!
When you said it was sold to PDP sponsors and business allies of govt..then you are been economical with the truth..Despite the fact that some of the bid winners have ties with PDP,that doesn't stop the fact that their bids what put through a series of consistency test and where purely approved on merit which is the reason why we have less litigations surrounding the process..even when Messers Oshimole,Uduaghan and mimiko tried blowing hot air they still backed down because they saw they had no case..a process that consumed the power minister because he was an interested in some of the coys..

Pls let's always deal on facts and not sentiments or what you feel like

take dat: Nigeria cannot progress with empty promises. We are always inundated by promise after promise of plans to attain 10,000 megawatts year in, year out.

@Topic; the president spoke well, and truly there are few fully merited ministers in his cabinet while others are a block of wood. The minister of agriculture deserves commendation.

*He said his government implemented the most transparent privatization exercise, yet tales of cronism and personalisation of public properties trailed the exercise. Also, the claim that $3billion is the highest ever realized from sale of government companies is not far fetched. PHCN is one of the biggest monopoly and revenue generating government corporation, the cabal of elite who bought it will make their returns within 3 to 5 years of operation.

*The President forgot to tell his audience that his administration perpetuated the largest scale of misappropriation and mismanagement of oil subsidies and one of the subsidy thieves(Femi Otedola) was part of his delegation.
For the fact that the NIPP plants are been put up for sale means that the projects exist and are near completion...No investor will bid for an imaginary project..so the promise of 10,000MW is not a mirage...

Can u help substantiate or your claim that tales of cronism trailed the privatization exercise

PoliticsRe: President Jonathan Leads 600-man Delegation To UN General Assembly - SaharaRepo by awodman: 11:06pm On Sep 22, 2013
awodman: The Presidency has denied reports that the President
Goodluck Jonathan, who is in New York to attend the
United Nations General Assembly is in the United States
with a 600-man delegation.

In a statement signed by Reuben Abati, the Special
Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, the
Presidency said Jonathan arrived New York with “less
than 30 persons as members of his entourage.”

The statement went further to assert that “There is also
no substance to the rehashed charge of profligacy
which SaharaReporters annually makes against the
President when he leads Nigeria’s delegation to the UN
General Assembly.”

Read the full statement below:

We have noted with regret the continuation today by
SaharaReporters.com of its usual scurrilous and
baseless attacks on the Jonathan Administration with
publication of a false claim that the President is leading
a 600-man delegation to the 68th Session of the United
Nations General Assembly in New York.

While we trust that discerning members of the public
who are already very familiar with SaharaReporters’
usual fare of mischief, outright falsehood and erroneous
speculation will rightly dismiss this latest claim as a
fresh manifestation of the online medium’s ill-will
towards President Jonathan and his administration, we
wish to affirm for the benefit of the unwary that there is
absolutely no truth in the allegation that the President
took a 600-man delegation to New York.

There is also no substance to the rehashed charge of
profligacy which SaharaReporters annually makes
against the President when he leads Nigeria’s
delegation to the UN General Assembly.

The truth is that less than 30 persons arrived in New
York with the President this morning as members of his
entourage. Other than them, the only other persons
who are in New York for the UN General Assembly with
the President’s knowledge and approval are relevant
ministers and few essential aides.

President Jonathan’s official delegation is definitely not
out of proportion with Nigeria’s size, role and relevance
in Africa and the global community.

SaharReporters’ claim that the President’s delegation is
the largest at this year’s General Assembly is an
unjustifiable fabrication which can never stand any
rigorous test of truthfulness.

We are certainly aware that many Nigerian citizens are
currently on visits to New York. These persons are here
for their own purposes and neither President Jonathan
nor his administration has any responsibility for the
presence of these persons in New York.

We will not be surprised if it is such persons who
include Nigerian businessmen who are here for an
African Business Roundtable event, members of non-
governmental organizations and tourists that
SaharaReporters has been counting, for the sole
purpose of mischief-making, as “members of the
Nigerian delegation”.

taharqa: No need for shouting, Bros. Nobody is disagreeing with you here. GEJ took 6000, not even 600 as reported, delegates to UN General Assembly in New York. We believe you. Even though the 547 Civil Servants that SR just said accompanied him are more than d entire No of people in d Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we still believe you people. They must hv collected more Civil Servants from other Ministeries, like d Ministry of Education whose staff are lazying about doing nothing cos of d ASUU strike, in order to make up d 547 persons. They chartered d Entire Aircrafts in Nigeria and many more Big ones from d US in order to take these huge No of Delegates to New York. I saw them myself. I also saw them while they all landed in New York. You know, since there is no way 600 persons can possibly get Accomodation in New York on d week of d UN General Assembly, half of them are scattered in other nearby cities, esp in California, from where they wud be brought to New York daily by those same Planes that was chartered (by d way did I mention that all those Planes that brought them to New York was actuali chartered for d entire week), whilst about 100 of them are currently squatting at d Basement of Nigeria's Embassy House in New York. I am looking at them with my own eyes as am tying this now. I should not forget to add that since these huge Nos of persons cannot fit into d UN General Assembly Hall during Pleniary, arrangements hv been made to provide HUGE Canopies for them just outside d Hall so that they can be hailing GEJ as he gives his Address tomorrow. An impaccable Source (who I cant name cos he doesn't want his name in Print) confirm this arrangement; he also said that d Contract for the Canopies was given to d lovely wife of d President, Dame Patiene Jonathan, herself.... PoliticsTCN Employs 522 New Engineers by awodman(op): 8:37pm On Sep 22, 2013
In what is a major milestone towards tackling the challenge of electricity transmission in the country, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has received newly recruited 522 engineers from the Federal Ministry of Power.

It would be recalled that Chinedu Nebo, minister of power, had in August said the Federal Government had designated $1.6 billion for the expansion of power transmission facilities in the country.

With the increase in the engineering capacity of the TCN, which is saddled with the responsibility of electricity transmission between generation and distribution companies, Nigerians expect better management and maintenance of the nation’s transmission network and improved service delivery by the company.

Receiving the new employees in Abuja, Don Priestman, managing director and chief executive officer of TCN, expressed satisfaction that TCN is bringing in a crop of young and skilled people with the potential to keep the future of the company unfolding as it should.

While charging the new employees to be hard working, he said that TCN holds an extremely satisfying career path for young engineers.

PoliticsRe: Gov Aregbesola Commends FG For Completing Ilesha Dam After 50 Years, Ask For Mor by awodman: 10:05am On Sep 21, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: There is a difference between policies and physical project execution. If you dont understand or buy a policy you may not appreciate or benefit from it.

Comparing the fertilizer distribution policy and construction of dams is like comparing apples and oranges. The later is a physical project while the former is a new policy.

Also the fertilizer distribution policy is a collaboration between FG, state govt and the farmer (shared 25-25-50). So if the governor of a particular state for instance fails to cooperate (pay its 25% or does not understand or buy the policy), the programme automatically encounters challenges in that state. So while the fertilizer policy may be successful in a states like Kogi, Anambra, Abia,Kebbi, etc because of cooperative governors, it may encounter challenges or even be stalled in a states with un-cooperative governor.

The issue of building a dam is COMPLETELY different. This is physical project being executed wholly by the FG. The FG has both the knife and yam.
In otherwords a POLICY is quite different from a PHYSICAL PROJECT...I hope the young man understands this
