Accept my sympathy on the loss of ur job. I can understand how you feel especially with a family to cater for. With regard to benefits, a lot depends on what your contract of employment says. Unfortunately, most of these contracts are often carefully drafted to deprive employees of benefits upon termination. Get a lawyer to help you write the company asap. |
That's so unfortunate. Next time, let a lawyer be in charge of your property. You can hold a lawyer accountable through the disciplinary committee. |
True. English, Spanish and French are economically viable languages. There were a few opportunities i missed in the past just because i do not speak French. My kids would speak at least 2 international languages and Yoruba. No pidgin English. They can pick that when they become adults cicero: |
there is an online advert by obare institute of management and technology situated at 1 agboye close, agboye complex, iyana school b/s ketu. someone has confirmed on this forum that an applicant was almost used for rituals at the said venue. the advertisers are ritualists. please pass on the info. do not apply, do not go there. they also operate under the name 'institute of administrative management'. be warned! pass on this info. save a life! |
Thank you very much for the information. I also got an invite this September but with this info I will definitely not attend. Please note that the so-called institute is now called Obare Institute of Management and Technology. If you receive an invite with the name Obare Institute, please turn it down. |
How long did you wait to get a feedback after a final job interview? Days, weeks, months or never |
Sinju:@sinju I quite agree with u that having a wedding party does not make u married if ur supposed spouse is already married to someone else. Brilliant point! However, i would like to clear the air on the issue of registration. Marriages are registered at the marriage registries, not in courts. Courts only deal with dissolution of marriages and not celebration. Secondly, the mere fact that someone contracted a traditional or islamic marriage without registration does not invalidate the marriage. However, in law those marriages are recognised as potentially polygamous. Hence, d husband may marry other women under the same customary or islamic law and such subsequent marriages would also be valid. The basic rule is there should be no subsisting marriage (whether customary, islamic or statutory) at the time of the wedding. Thus, for instance, if a woman gets married in church or marriage registry to a man who has a subsisting marriage under customary law, that new marriage is invalid. The certificate issued there is worthless. At best, the holder of d certificate is a customary wife. Nevertheless, a marriage validly celebrated under statute (whether in church or registry) confers some benefits on the wife where d husband dies leaving no will. Such wife is entitled to share in d properties. Customary wives get nothing. Watch out people, not all churches are licensed to celebrate weddings. If ur church is not licensed and u intend to be a statutory wife, ensure u visit d nearest marriage registry around u. that having a wedding party does not make u married if ur supposed spouse is already married to someone else. Has any housemate been called for ED interview this week?Please let's keep this thread alive with info |
@bettymaffy i haven't met with ED. Role- Legal office unit. House, stay by ur phones and return every missed call |
Just got a call from Amcon. The official asked for my state of origin. I tried to find out what's next but he simply said they will get back. This call is coming after d 2man panel interview i had wit Amcon in July. Has anyone received a similar call? |
@cinzo Yes, i am a lawyer |
I took a lease of a small flat in 2009. After paying the exorbitant rent plus legal and agency fees, I was so eager to move in that i didn't bother about the lease agreement. 'That can wait', i thought. Barely 2 months after i had settled in, I asked my landlord for d lease agreement. His facial expression was one of surprise. 'Lease agreement?' he quizzed. Perhaps other tenants had occupied the premises for years without formal leases. The first year rolled by, Baba (that's what we call him) brought no lease agreement. Suddenly, on one glorious saturday morning in June 2010, we heard a knock. Lo and behold, our Baba appeared beaming with smiles holding a long blue paper in his hands. 'This is the agreement. You see, my lawyer has been very busy.' he said. Ten minutes later, he returned asking for the signed copies. I told him the agreement had to be reviewed first. He was surprised. 'What's in a tenancy agreement?' he queried. Two weeks later, I handed him the unsigned lease with a lawyer's letter. In the lease, baba's 'busy' lawyer had subtly broken my annual rent into monthly instalments thus suggesting that i was a monthly tenant. The lease was so smartly drafted that in any event, i would only be entitled to a month's notice of eviction inspite of having paid 2years rent upfront. If you've spent a fortune on rent, why not spend a token to prevent unlawful ejection by reviewing your lease agreement. That can save you a lot of trouble. I mailed Amcon this week on the status of my application. I got an auto response from one of d directors that he/she is out of office on official duties from 8th Aug. I was referred to another official but i don't want to enquire anymore. I'll keep hoping |
I can help u with company registration. I've sent u a mail already |
@elhef. Thanks for the words of encouragement. Glad to know that the salary mentioned at the interview is not a deciding factor. My second interview was great and I'm beginning to think perhaps I priced myself too high that's why i haven't been called. 3m per annum, legal officer, experienced hire. Is that too high? |

2nd stage interview is going on in Lagos n Abuja. Had mine in Lagos Mandora: |
@otunbagade For d 2nd interview @ amcon, i received a phone call at 11pm directing me to check my email for details. Surprisingly, i had checked my mail 30mins b4 d call n found nothing. I suspect d caller sent d mail while calling. I had the first interview late May and d 2nd interview on 15th july- about 6weeks interval. |
I had the second phase of interview today at AMCON office. The notice was very short (less than 18hrs). The questions were general- tell us about Amcon, what contributions would u make if employed, why do u want to leave ur current job, salary expectation. Just exude some confidence without sounding arrogant and all shall be well. |
I just these feelings i am getting comes tru,
