benincitys:Does that apply irrespective of the ground for the refusal? |
What she wants to do with the money raised i still dont understand. Is she going to import people to America from Africa to vote for the man or bribe all Americans to vote for the man who was voted to where he is now by both white and black. She is probably enriching her own pocket because its even illegal to raise money for American elections by non American, so let the madam come out and tell us precisely what she wants to use the money for, bloody hypocrites! |
Sky Blue:pardon me it was part of a very long write up on Nigerianews.com. |

The Madam admires Barack Obama. We all do. His brilliance, his charisma and the historical significance of his emergence as a leading contender for the US Presidency - all of this is impressive. From China to Chad, there is a phenomenal obsession with Obama and his message of change. Okereke-Onyiuke had once met Obama in the United States, had had the chance of a photo-op with him and even a brief conversation, In 2003, she organised a similar fund-raising shindig under the umbrella of Corporate Nigeria, to help the Obasanjo re-election campaign. In 2006, Okereke-Onyiuke was one of the staunch supporters of Obasanjo's anti-democratic Third Term Agenda. She had also helped to raise funds for Transcorp of which she was one of the original promoters, although through a sleight of hand at the Stock Exchange. Since this woman is so gifted in raising funds to help others, why is she not on record yet as raising funds to support worthy causes that may benefit the poor? When would she mobilise her rich friends to raise funds to help motherless babies homes in Nigeria? Or the army of unemployed youths on our streets? Would she and her friends some day consider organizing fund-raising dinners to support the fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria? Madam Onyiuke gives the impression that she loves to raise funds to support powerful men: Obasanjo in 2003 was the most powerful man in Nigeria. She had enthused at the controversial dinner on Monday, that Obama, as President of the United States will also be the president of the world: a position she created! Rich Nigerians like to support themselves or their ilk, but imagine how many Nigerian lives N100 million can transform. |
Benniman why not start with something very small if you cant get what you want on time? You can get say a room or room and parlour and from there look for your choice. U have only recently relocated to Lagos why not just manage somewhere smaller for a start, might save you time and lots of money until you can stand very well on your own. Sorry to put my mouth in your matter when you did not request for advise but house but also be careful with the money you have saved in the village Lagos could be a lil bit expensive and e no dey take time for money to loose weight o. |

The problem is that there are lots of hungry people out there who are ready to vote for anyone who is able to give them 500 naira to buy a plate of rice on the election date irrespective of the credibility of such person, and these people has no access to the internet to read all these stuffs to make them have a better perspective. All those mamas and babas and them jobless people believe they collect money o they dont collect money o they will get there and forget them so why not kuku collect money and vote for whoever. I just hope information will be more readily available for people on these thing and once hungry is out of the problem people will be able to reason with their correct sense. Yorubas will say 'ti ebi ba ti kuro ninu ise ise buse' once you remove hunger from poverty no poverty, unknown to them the hunger will return as soon as they have finished spending the miserable 500 naira bribe offered the hunger returns. God help us |
Should the emphasis for soliciting for him to be voted for be based solely on his colour? Sounds racist to ne, does that mean no white should also vote for him because he is not white? I think the emphasis should be on what people think he can achieve as a politician and the noise should be less about his colour. |
What have they been able to offer thousands of jobless proffessionals at home? Bring the ones from abroad to compete for the little or non existing jobs? |
Hunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn sad sad sad and so sad. Small theives die in prison big thieves celebrated! Shame. |
Someone please tell me what the money raised is meant for? And what's the essence of this diner for the rich? |
Prof. Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke, Director General of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and Chairman, ‘Africans for Obama 2008’, yesterday raised over N100 million at an expensive dinner for Senator Barack Obama, the US Democratic Presidential candidate, at the Muson centre, Onikan, Lagos. Okereke explained that her group organised the dinner in which over N100 million was contributed by influential members of the group as a way of booking for a buffet table, to create awareness that for the first time in history, an African American is on the brink of becoming president of the United States of America. She explained that there are over 5 million Africans living in the US with the right to vote and advised them to rally support for Obama at the presidential election slated for November this year. PM.News observed that there were 56 buffet tables, each of them, it was learnt, cost the donors N2.5 million. On each table, there were champagne, red wine, beer, and various types of drinks. The tables were for influential and rich people in the society. At the entrance of the Shell Hall where the dinner took place, the floor was covered by a 25 metre long rug with the inscription YES WE CAN, Obama’s campaign slogan. There were also very large posters of Obama at the entrance and the stage. The decoration inside was splendid with the roof covered with various colours. At the dinner, a documentary by celebrity presenter, Bisi Olatilo, was aired. But not everybody had access to the hall. It was invitation for the influential people in the country and Africa. Okereke lashed out at journalist, saying that some of them have been writing ‘rubbish and nonsense‘ about her concerning Obama campaign. “ Some sceptical people have been writing nonsense and rubbish in the newspapers that what is my business with Obama. But they are free to continue to write petitions. It is not their money that we are spending. Ask them is it your money that we are spending?” Okereke explained that ‘Africans for Obama’ is simply telling Africans in the Diaspora to vote for Obama because he is their brother. She also said that whoever becomes the American President is also the President of the world. Representing Obama at the dinner was Mr. Eric Wright, Obama policy maker for Africa, who flew in from South Africa. Wright said that he did not speak for Obama or for the campaign team. He was however evasive about how an Obama presidency will handle African issues. He said there was no policy for Africa at the moment. He explained that if Obama becomes President, Africa will be closer to Washington than it is at the moment. He did not address the issue of an American military base in Africa and did not go into details. But Mr. Oladipupo Oni, chairman ‘Africans for Obama or McCain 2008’, said that the chainman of ‘Africans for Obama’ was being myopic about American election. He said that voting for Obama only because he is black and not because of what Africa is to gain in an Obama Presidency was nonsensical. He said: “Obama is a black man, and even in states dominated by the whites, Obama won the primary elections, so why should we say that only because Obama is black we should vote for him? “Are we saying that the white people that voted for Obama should not have voted for him because he is black? That is why I have decided to set up ‘Africans for Obama and McCain’. This is because we have no problem regarding the race issue. We are saying to McCain or Obama to tell us what they will do for us and we will vote for them not because they are white or black, but because of the issues. “ The ‘Africans for Obama or McCain 2008’ was set up on Saturday, Oni disclosed. He said: “We should not be victims of the racial segregation that pervaded the US for centuries.” |

President Umaru Yar’adua’s idea of making Nigeria one of the 20 leading economies of the world by the year 2020 may not succeed, the World Bank has said. World Bank President Dr. Robert Zoellick said yesterday in Abuja that while the Vision 2020 is a noble one, the reality on ground shows that Nigeria is still far off the mark. Zoellick spoke through the World Bank’s Vice President for Africa Obiageli Ezekwesili at the Nigeria Infrastructure Summit in Abuja. Ezekwesili was a minister in the immediate past regime. He said a lot still needed to be done if Nigeria was to achieve its vision of joining the world’s 20 developed economies by the year 2020. Zoellick said a comparison with Turkey which is number 17 among world’s leading economies showed that Nigeria could hardly beat the deadline especially because of its intractable power crisis. The World Bank President said while indirect costs borne by firms in Nigeria amount to 15 per cent, in China it is 5 per cent, India 10 per cent and only 2 per cent in South Africa. He said, "This competitive deficit translates into foregone income and lost jobs. Whilst not everyone agrees on the exact amount of investment needed to bridge Nigeria’s infrastructure gap, everyone agrees that it far exceeds what the government budget could ever finance alone. "The same is true for the subsequent maintenance and recurrent costs required to keep the infrastructure working. Just to give you an idea of the order of magnitude for Africa, it would need $22 billion every year for infrastructure investment plus another $18 billion every year for operations and maintenance." Zoellick said the bank has provided capital financing for Nigeria in the areas of transportation, power, water and sewage to the tune of $1.13 billion since 1999. The way forward for the country to attain its Vision 2020 and Public/ Private Partnership (PPP) policy, he said, include developing a legal and regulatory environment for effective and transparent procurement procedures among others. Zoellick said while Nigeria is currently investing around 7 per cent of the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) on infrastructure above other Sub-saharan Africa, it is behind Mozambique with 12 per cent of GDP and China with 14 per cent. "We all know why infrastructure is key to the battle against poverty and the realization of the Millennium Development Goals. For example, access to water explains some 25 per cent and 37 per cent respectively of infant and child mortality rates differences between rich and poor countries," she said. (Dailytrust 08/08/08) Do we honestly think Nigeria would be anywhere near being one of the 20 leading economies of the world by the year 2020? Do we honestly think with the way things are going in Nigeria there will be any positive change by the year 2020? |
Once upon a time in the kingdom of Heaven , God was missing for six days. Eventually, Michael the archangel found him, resting on the seventh day. He inquired of God. "Where have you been?" God sighed a deep sigh of satisfaction and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds, "Look, Michael. Look what I've made!" Archangel Michael looked puzzled and said, "What is it?" "It's a planet," replied God, "and I've put Life on it. I'm going to call Earth and it's going to be a great place of balance." "Balance?" inquired Michael, still confused. God explained, pointing to different parts of earth. "For example, northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth while southern Europe is going to be poor. Over there I've placed a continent of white people and over there is a continent of black people," God continued pointing to different countries. "This one will be extremely hot and while this one will be very cold and covered in ice." The Archangel, impressed by God's work, then pointed to a land mass in the Caribbean and said, "What's that one?" "Ah," said God. "That's Nigeria the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful beaches, mountains, streams, hills, and water falls. The people from Nigeria are going to be very handsome, modest, intelligent and humorous and they are going to be found travelling the world holding good jobs. They will be extremely sociable, hardworking and high-achieving, and they will be known throughout the world as diplomats and carriers of peace, play football and go to the Olympics." Michael gasped in wonder and admiration but then proclaimed, "What about balance, God? You said there would be balance!!!" God replied wisely, "Wait until you see the idiots that run their government." |
Hunnnnnnnnnn bribery and corruption everywhere and how did unemployed applicants cough out N22M as bribe? |
AS investigation continues into the death of 43 applicants during recruitment tests conducted by two main agencies in the Ministry of Interior, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on Monday in Abuja revealed how a syndicate in the ministry collected over N22 million bribe from 140 applicants. A statement from the commission and signed by its spokesperson, Mr. Sina Babasola, disclosed that five members of the syndicate had been arrested and undergoing interrogation. The statement read: “A special syndicate which specialises in demanding and collecting money from prospective applicants seeking employment into the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) and Nigeria Immigrations Service (NIS) has been smashed by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). “The leader of the syndicate, a Chief Superintendent of Prison, Mrs. Mba Josephine Uchenna, attached to the Administration Department of the NPS, has been arrested by the commission in connection with the alleged scam. “Preliminary investigation by the ICPC revealed that the syndicate had collected over N22 million from over 140 applicants seeking employment into the two federal agencies. “A top government official attached to the office of the Minister of Interior, Mr. Udoh Abel, and four others from the Immigrations and Prisons services alleged to have benefited from the illegal proceeds collected from the applicants, are currently being interrogated by the commission to determine the level of their involvement in the alleged scam. “Others being interrogated alongside Udo Abel are Kuta Babangida of Immigrations and Ahmadu Usman, Barrister Audu Karimu, Esther Amadasu, all of the Administration Department of NPS. “One of the applicants had in a petition to the commission alleged that the sum of N500,000 was collected from her to secure appointment into the Nigeria Prisons Service. “According to the petitioner, she was given an account number by the leader of the syndicate to pay the money into, but the suspect changed her mind and collected N400,000 instead and instructed her to pay the balance of N100,000 into the designated account. “The petitioner claimed that after the payment, the suspect acknowledged receipt and requested her to send a duplicate of the deposit slip and her credentials for processing, but at the end, the appointment was not given to her and the money was not refunded. “In the course of investigation, the suspect, Uchenna, was alleged to be working with five other staff of the Prisons and Immigration Service to perpetrate the corrupt act. “It was further gathered that the syndicate had realized over N22 million from extorting over 140 applicants with each of the applicants paying between N150,000 and N240,000 into designated accounts domiciled at two different commercial banks. “The leader of the syndicate has made confessional statements to the ICPC, admitting that she committed the crime and also named five other staff members of the two agencies that have benefited from the illegal proceeds. “Investigation into the matter is still ongoing and the suspects may be charged to court for allegedly violating sections of the ICPC Act.” |
