bilms: FG Set To Enforce Use Of Made-In-Nigeria IT Products
http://www.leadership.ng/nga/articles/23995/2012/05/08/fg_set_enforce_use_madeinnigeria_it_products.html

The Federal Government through the National Information Technology Development Agency (Nitda), a parastatal of the Ministry of Communication Technology is set to enforce the use of Made-in-Nigeria IT products by government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

Mr. Inye Kemabonta, Director, Standards and Regulation, Nitda said the agency was working through the National Technical Committee (NTC) on IT Standards to ensure that made-in-Nigeria IT products meet global standards and that Nigerians would have no more excuse not to patronise made-in Nigeria products.

The committee would also consolidate the Nitda campaign for Nigerians to buy made-in-Nigeria products in IT and provide the enabling framework for the development of the indigenous IT sector. The NTC was established by Nitda as a specialised organ for IT standards development in the country. The Minister for Communication Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson inaugurated the committee in November last year.

To this end, Nitda would next week in Lagos hold an IT stakeholder workshop for the purpose of fine-tuning draft standards and guidelines for made- in- Nigeria IT hardware products. The Director-General of Nitda, Prof Cleopas Angaye, is expected to use the occasion of the workshop to remind the MDAs that the Federal Government mandatory policy which requires the public sector to procure low-end Nigerian IT products is still in force.

Nitda has created an Online Public Complaints Platform to track any disregard for the policy and to monitor compliance to minimum standards by product manufacturers in accordance with section 6 of the NITDA Act of 2007. Recently, government announced a plan to establish a N1 billion Software Innovation Fund to fast-track the development of made-in-Nigeria software by the youths. The fund commenced with seed money from the government.

Angaye had during the final review of the draft policy on software development in November 2011 said Nigeria could earn about $6 billion from software if properly harnessed especially as the software industry is not a capital intensive sector, noting that ICT has been accepted globally as a major tool for sustainable socio-economic development, he said software was the engine for this powerful tool.

“It is however disheartening to observe that these investments have been mostly on imported software. A recent disclosure by the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) shows that Nigeria loses about $1 billion annually to software importation. Whereas Nigeria software industry is potentially a $6 billion industry and could surpass revenue from the oil industry,” Angaye said.

I posted on the first page of this thread. Missed alot but I've read all post.
Newbies, BOM is real and you can make millions on it. Infact one of the richest internet millionaires made his money trading fixed-odds(BOM) and forex. His name is Vince Stanzione.
Naija peeps, no easy road to Babylon! You have to read books, study trends and practice well. In Nigeria, I've personally not seen someone who makes above 500$ in a day.
@Ben and Pappy, be matured when handling issues, but its too early to ask for payments considering the numbers of newbies in here and the resposibility on each person. After three straight months of familiarity and trust, then u can start with whatever you wanna do.
Newbies, I'm not a professional but I've been on BOM since 2009. I can say its very profitable if you can LEARN it.
I'll post books you can use later.

This means the govt actually knows these criminals and their hide-outs.
Will their Godfathers/sponsors be brought to book? A question that needs to be answered.

A loving mother has a diary where she record events. Her baby is just 3weeks old and the most common word in the diary is "Bomb Blast" Invariably, the three weeks old baby is already experiencing bombs and some peeps here are crying Biafra. Tribalism and complacency! Ask the Rwandans how it all started? Its better we find a solution to the "northern biafra" thats budding in this country.

diluminati: i wonder the level of commonsense seun has to put this nonsense on the frontpage. why will you be asking if Nigeria is on fire? what impudence?
Where have you been?

I hate it when these biafran babies start crying to derail every thread. Talking like their soldiers didnt kill anybody at all. Until Ojukwu says Nigeria is on fire, nobody has the right to say it. Nigeria is on fire. Period!

You all need to see the "Islamic" videos these BHs watch that gives them the inspiration to take lives of people anyhow. The question that comes to mind is why Islam, the so-called religion of peace, linked with terrorism?

I think Pep should read about Ernest Shackleton....I believe there are more challenges ahead than Chelsea's humiliation and he must learn to face them. This is the first barren season for chrissake! Why quit at 41? And what record cannot be broken?
No matter his level of success, I believe there is more. There was this match he was already congratulating the other coach even before the whistle was blown. He gives up easily.
I doff my hat to the Mourinhos and the Fergies of this world.

CareerRe: Way Forward From The Teeming Rate Of Unemployment by ayox2003: 2:18pm On Apr 18, 2012
nanotee: Hello folks,
I am at the venue for KPMG aptitude test and was amazed to see that over 2 thousand people were shortlisted to write the test. I heard there had been at least 2 other batches with a similar attendance this year alone. What's most disturbing is that all those invited needed to be below 26 years of age and also should have graduated with at least a 2nd class upper. I remember my Dad used to tell me that I just needed to have a 2:1 to get a job. That's obviously not the case any longer. As the number of 2:1 or otherwise unemployed roaming the streets keep increasing at an alarming rate. While I have seen posts on how we can be more competitive in order to land one of the few jobs left, I have not seen much that addresses how we could help ourselves to generate employment. It's not enough for me to get a job alone. If all my siblings and friends are jobless, I would probably be needing to spend on them and thereby remain poor.
So, Fellow NL's I would need your suggestions and contributions on how to generate employment...
Good grades are good but they dont matter when you're applying for multinationals with large applicants. OP, even first class don turn water. Unlike the 90's and some years back when 2:1 was as scarce as blood diamonds.

While waiting for the job, starting something isnt a bad idea. A solid idea, a pen and paper, and a materplan would be a great starting point and dont forget to upgrade ur portfolio with some trainings/certifications.
Omoboy must not dull in Naija!

CareerRe: I Am Divided Between GTBANK And FBN! Pls Advise. by ayox2003: 9:22am On Mar 22, 2012
Achiles: I joined GTBank Plc three years back as an Trainee. I have enjoyed every bit of my stay as I have had training opportunities I probably might not have had somewhere else. As you would expect, the trainings haven't come without challenging responsibilities. I could say with some dint of modesty that I enjoyed those challenges. Nice as the bank is, promotion does not come easy. Recently out of curiousity, I applied to FBN, attended the interviews and went for medicals. It turned out that I was offered a better pay and level. I also told them my preferred location which they acceded to. I got a call this afternoon asking me when I would resume and I just could not give them an answer! I have been hesitant and unforthcoming. Thinking of the Bank reminded me of the fisrt time I stepped and how good it's been. I also considered the fact that I would be promoted by June. I don't know if I should stay or leave. Someone pls advise me.
Points to note:
1) You have enjoyed GTB so far.
2) GTB gave you the training you might not have gotten somewhere else.
3) Promotion doesnt come easy in GTB.
4) FBN is offering a higher level and pay.
5) You are still confused, which is why you came here.
Bro, what's safe may not be what's best. Have you considered the long-term effect this would have on your career? What's the future like in FBN? Forget about the better pay and level that they are offering now. After this promotion when is the next one coming and where will those promotions take you? Will FBN take you to the climax of your career? Where do you see yourself in 10years time with both banks?
FBN is going be 120years old in some two years and there will ofcourse be some "routines" in such a old place.
GTB is yet to be 20 and its fast-growing, solid, innovative with a very good work environment + young chaps.
Why dont you "grow" with the fast-growing company where your happiness is going to be sustained than working with a ready-made bank filled with aged bosses?
You hinted that GTB will promote you by June but promotion doesnt come easy. Why the kanju-kanju? Only If you are someone who doesnt like working for years in a company.
IMHO.
