ssii: Abrahim paid tithe, Abraham was before the Law. Jacob paid tithe, Jacob was before the law. We that are of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham, and we are his spiritual seeds. Jesus talking about tithe and the weightier matters of mercy and judgement, said we ought to obey one without leaving the other undone.
Abraham slept with his maid, Jacob had more than one wife.

Jesus never paid tithes neither did the apostles..

Fhemmmy: I have not told you what to do, i am only telling you what the Bible has said . . .
Yes, the Church is the people and not the building and is what i said, being it to the store house, however, when we use church here
, we mean the place of worship . . .
Again, it is not for me to worry about what the pastor do with the money, cos i am not giving it to him, but just obeying the principles that the Lord has laid down for me to follow.
who is the we? Jesus says your heart is the temple/dwelling place of the lord 1 cor 3:16.

2cor 9:7
Every man according to his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Mathew 6:1-4
“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

1 John 3:7
But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?

Mark 12:41-44

And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

Deuteronomy 15:7-8

“If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be.

Acts 2:44-45

And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need

James 1:27

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world

Acts 4:32-5:11

Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need

martin123: Malachi 3:10 (KJV)
10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

In my own opinion, the Bible said in the scripture above, that we should bring it into the store house of the lord, so where will you regard as the store house of Godhuh? The Church of course
Malachi is in the old testament and that time, the church was where the ark of the covenant was placed. Please tell me where the ark of the covenant is today.
Politics › Regional Parties:- A More Realistic Form Of Opposition. by AZeD1(op): 1:58am On Oct 17, 2012
It is well known that there is no opposition in the country which is kind of a "requirement" for democracy. The closest we have to an one is the ACN which is seen as a regional party. Based on this lack of a formidable opposition, it can be said that the PDP will rule Nigeria for the foreseeable future. This doesn't bod well for the country.
Attempts have been made to form an opposition party (Mega party, ACN & CPC merger e.t.c) but all failed. Reasons for the failures are numerous but i will talk about one which:- Not thinking outside the box.
Most people expect the opposition to be almost as popular as the dominant party which in most cases is usually true but Nigeria can be the exception. For once, we should use our cultural differences to advantage:- Promote regional parties.
Just as the ACN is dominant in the southwest, imagine if the CPC and APGA were dominant or strife to be dominant in their respective regions by pushing for regional integration in their domain. We would have a president from the PDP but a national assembly without a dominant party thereby keeping PDP in check(theoretically). The different opposition parties can't take the PDP head on but they can take bites out of their cake.
Some south easterners believe Biafra would solve the problems of the Igbos which might be true or false but we can find out with them having to leave Nigeria.

Nigeria has the most greedy and selfish set of politicians in any universe and the message of one Nigeria doesn't seem to be working so why don't we try something different and radical.

#PS I am a believer in the possibility of one and peaceful Nigeria but with the amount of tribalist here on Nairaland, i think its time we appeal to their regional side.

Politics › Re: Fuel Subsidy To Go Next Year- Sanusi by AZeD1(m): 11:13am On Oct 12, 2012
In Nigeria, we can assume that demand stays normal and would witness a spike during the christmas and maybe easter periods with people travelling long distances.. But now, also remember that the oil is being produced locally, refined locally and sold locally (with exception to those that will be exported) so (I may be wrong) but I dont think international price of crude should overly affect local market as much.
Would you rather sell locally or internationally when crude sells at a higher price internationally?

I'm all for removing subsidy but corruption has always been the problem not the subsidy itself and deregulation won't change that.
Politics › Re: Fuel Subsidy To Go Next Year- Sanusi by AZeD1(m): 11:01am On Oct 12, 2012
Skip to Downstream oil and Gas..

The system is so highly fuc[k]ed, only a foolish man would invest in a refinery in todays Nigeria. As long as it remains cheaper and more profitable to import than to refine locally, your refineries would suffer. If the government deregulates the downstrem completely, throws the market wide open, what you would have at first is hesitance, investors would be weary about doing business in Nigeria.. So the first brave ones would have a chokehold and prices would be steep at first, when the other investors see that the coast is clear and that there is an avaliable market, they would storm the place.. then competition would start.. Both on price and quality of products and services.. In the end we the consumers would be the benefactors as the marketers would be struggling for our business. Dont be surprised to see Oando walking up to your door step begging you to buy their fuel for 5 Naira a litre and get a free recharge card.. grin
International oil prices will dictate pms price not demand and supply.. In the winter, people drive less and use more of trains but pms price doesnt drop. Do a search and see how many refineries are for sale or have closed down in the past 5 years. Profit margin for refineries are very little. Crude oil prices are not stable.
If demand and supply ruled especially in Nigeria, public transport will be far cheaper than what it is in Lagos because its not a regulated market.
Also you don't compare technology market(telecomms) with power,Oil, housing e.t.c. because prices in technology drop overtime as opposed to other kinds of market.
Politics › Re: Fuel Subsidy To Go Next Year- Sanusi by AZeD1(m): 10:27am On Oct 12, 2012
torhuke: PMS cannot sell 4 #250 per liter. Itz betwn #140/#160.
Eventhou it will sell 4 #250 per liter, is it not beter removed than maintaind. Weigh d variablez on a scale taking our peculirity in2 consideration and see which is best!
Why is it better removed? Stop using the economics of the west for Nigeria because we are different. I said i'm not a fan of subsidy but as it relates to Nigeria, i support it for now. My reason, All major pms importers are pdp members (not literally) which means they can fix the price and our government would do nada.
Politics › Re: Fuel Subsidy To Go Next Year- Sanusi by AZeD1(m): 10:03am On Oct 12, 2012
Nigerian and their ignorance.... Subsidizing pms is not ideal but for now, it should stay. If subsidy is removed, pms will sell for 250 Naira.
For those shouting demand and supply theories or telecomms privatisation please stop showing your ignorance.
1)Demand and supply only works where you have a serious anti trust/regulatory agency.
2)Crude oil market which directly affects the price of pms is controlled by international politics not economics.
3)Refining as a business has very little profit margins hence the closure/ sale of lots of refineries in the last few years

Point number 3 might not be valid in Nigeria because of point no 1 which also means the masses will still be fleeced.
Politics › Re: Africans Should NOT Support Barack Obama by AZeD1(m): 10:47am On Oct 11, 2012
Gbawe: @Igbo2011.

I was never comfortable with the messianic support Obama received from Africans because I believed it to be an emotional and gross simplification of the American Presidency. An American president is not so much a person. He is an institution that will always be compelled and 'harmonised', above everything else, to do what is best for the USA.

It is those , in the first place, who wanted to associate the American Presidency with colour and continental goodwill (i.e Obama's link with Africa) who will be disappointed with Obama.

Those who never regarded Obama's race and origin as pertinent will understand he is simply another individual who must continue the effort to keep America dominant. This "dominance" may come at the expense of others to include Africans and it is naive, given all that is known about the USA , for anyone to think the racial and continental origin of the man in the White House changes anything. This is not necessarily a bad thing and we Africans should learn from it. Allegiance and loyalty should , first and foremost, be to the land that has developed you. Obama is not Kenyan or African. He is, beyond the dreamy rhetoric, and for the purposes that matter, 100% American.
Nice post Gbawe. If i may add, that is also the problem plaguing Nigeria. "The president is from my tribe/religion so i must support him". I was enraged when the former DG of the stock exchange organised a dinner fundraiser 4 years ago while she had not done anything to help the Nigerian struggle. Until we africans start thinking with our heads and not emotions(tribe/religion) we will always be disappointed like the op is in Obama.

Those who are led by the spirit of God are called the children of God (The book of Romans). If have the spirit of God dwelling inside of you, he will instructs you and guide you from doing wrong. My friend, do what the bible says without pretense, and wait to see the testimonies. Leave Bishop Oyedepo alone and work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

@OP go for it if you can.
Before you start
1)Like the woman said, give it a name(A walk for/against xyz).
2) See a doctor for check up.
3) Train for at least a month and see a nutritionist so you can change your diet.
4)Start a blog, get enough publicity.
5)Plot your journey. Know the shortest route, the distance between neighboring towns and how long it takes you to walk 1km.
During the Journey
6) Walk at your own pace, you are not timed.
7)With enough publicity, you would get followers who would help you navigate their towns and probably give you accommodation for the night.(Try visiting the rulers of each town you pass.)
coolYou can quit at any time and its no shame. You can always try again.
9)You are allowed to spend days in any particular town of your choice.
10)Take pictures of the good, bad and ugly.

God be with you. Don't mind the negative posters. They all want change in Nigeria but are not ready to work for it.
NB: You already have supporters here who will accommodate you if you pass through their domain. Even the negative ones would house you just so the can discourage/laugh at you.
Accommodation 50% solved.
