CelebritiesIreti Doyle Narrates How Adesua Etomi Rescued Her Daughter From Bullies by Azeemokoya(op): 6:03pm On May 26, 2022
Veteran Nollywood actress, Ireti Doyle in an Instagram post shared during the early hours of today, May 26 recounted how her colleague, Adesua Etomi-Wellington rescued her daughter, Jeyomi from bullies.

According to Ireti Doyle, she stated that her daughter, Jemiyo who just turned 18, was once an object of bullying in her school.

She noted that when Adesua stepped into the issue, the bullying “died down significantly”.

Ireti noted that her daughter had just transferred to a new school and not shortly after her resumption, she bagged a position in the students’ council.

The actress said, ” Within months of arriving she vied for and won a position on the Students Council. Apparently, that’s not allowed. You cannot just arrive here and begin to ‘shine’ without ‘permission’.

“Oh, the bullying was aggressive! And most of the time, she would beg me not to step in, determined to make her own way.

“Anyways, Mrs. Wellington heard about the goings on and said ‘Auntie, I’m going to go pick Jem from school one day’. I said OK. On the said day, she asked me to sit in the car. It took longer than usual.

PoliticsKukah: CAN Warns Nothing Must Happen To Cleric Amid Blasphemy Claims by Azeemokoya(op): 5:57pm On May 23, 2022
Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), on Sunday, warned that nothing untoward must happen to the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, for whatever reason.

Rev. Chris Annger, the Kaduna State CAN Vice-Chairman, made this known to the media during a programme at the Evangelical Church of Winning All, Sabon-Tasha, Kaduna.

Annger added that the attack on a Catholic church shortly after the gruesome murder of Deborah, was targeted at Kukah.

The CAN official further noted that the gathering was also to intercede for those who were still alive despite the uncertainty surrounding the country.

Christians in their hundreds on Sunday gathered at the Evangelical Church of Winning All, Sabon-Tasha, Kaduna, to intercede for the country.

This is in full compaliance with the directives from the Christian Association of Nigeria that Christians should protests the lynching of Deborah Samuel, a 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, who was killed over alleged blasphemying of Prophet Mohammed.

The Christian body, following the killing of Deborah had initially asked all churches across the country to embark on protest over the killing but reversed its decision that Christian faithfuls should gather in their churches to protest.

Consequently, the cleric called on the government to protect the life and property of Bishop Kukah as well as other Nigerians.

BusinessGreed: The Man Who Loved Money More Than Life by Azeemokoya(op): 9:43pm On May 22, 2022
Greed, an intense and selfish desire for something. Everyone is in pursuit of what they’ll never have primarily out of greed.

Be in control of your greed and covetousness.
I know a man who loved money more than life; he sees life as empty without money.

He sees all things as purposeless if money is not involved.

In his youth; he pursued money so much he left his parent’s home so early just so he could enjoy the epicureanism of life.

He wanted the life, he skipped the essence of youth, so he could see life.

He scammed all his friends and business associates of their earnings and investment, “I will reimburse you once I enter the States,” he said.

Indeed, he lied, he deceived them all, smart man, he thought.

In his pursuit of happiness, he met other choleric individual’s stern on making the funds. Still on the hustle, he joined gangs, they stole, they robbed. It’s still part of the grind, he is still trying to secure the bag.

As time went on, the petty funds scavenging from the streets were no longer enough.

The man and his gang needed to hit it big.

They got a heinous deal to move ‘coke’ and ‘weight’.

Their first two projects were successful, but not the third. The man was nabbed in Saudi Arabia, his gang members denied him, running back to Nigeria.

PoliticsUmahi Blames Politicians For Fuelling Insecurity For Selfish Gains by Azeemokoya(op): 7:54am On May 20, 2022
Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi, on Thursday, May 19, criticised politicians for Nigeria’s escalating insecurity.

Umahi, who spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today, named past resource management and politicians’ involvement, particularly in the South-East, as some of the issues that have contributed to the country’s current security challenges.

He claimed that some politicians are exacerbating insecurity for personal benefit.

Umahi said: “There are politicians who are profiting from the crisis. They believe that if the All Progressives Congress fails, it is to their advantage. They forget that there has to be a country before an election.

“Politicians empower thugs. You’ll see a politician’s official security protecting thugs. There is a very low level of patriotism and everything is politicized.”

Umahi promised to solve the problem using what he termed “a bottom-top approach” if elected the country’s president in 2023.

“I believe in a bottom-top approach. Ebonyi is one of the safest states in Nigeria because our vigilante collaborates with the police. Also, there is a need for information and engagements from region to region.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, says President Muhammadu Buhari will determine fate of those Ministers who shelved their political ambitions.

Lai Mohammed stated this when he fielded questions from State House correspondents after the weekly virtual meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Wednesday, May 18.

CelebritiesCelebrities And Their Struggle For Relevance by Azeemokoya(op): 8:09am On May 18, 2022
Celebrities are humans too, do not pedestalize them.

One week ago, reports of veteran Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji checking into a rehab facility overseas threw social media into disarray.

The revelation stunned fans of the renowned actress who has been portrayed as a role model and established as the ideal woman representing Africa across the globe.

Genevieve who recently turned 43 is one of the most popular celebrities in the Nigerian entertainment industry, however, behind the glitz and glamour there is a woman who is facing her own trials and tribulations.

She is rich, beautiful and embodies the perfect life; albeit something was still missing.

What could it have been?

Only Genevieve Nnaji could give a convincing response to this question.

Most commentators on the microblogging site, Twitter believed Genevieve is an angel, she cannot be cocooned in life trauma because her life is bliss.

A perfect life is a lie, don’t be blinded by celebrity obsession.

In recent years, we have seen some notable celebrities embark on the journey to the great beyond just like everyone else. They probably died in penury or due to severe health ailments.

Someone needs to tell netizens to suppress their intense pedestalization of celebrities and simply acknowledge them for who they are; talented individuals who are fortunate to find their way into the mainstream.

Celebrities are humans too, indeed, they deserve respect; admiration, and honour, but not glorification.

Despite their impressive network and influence, they are limited; there is a war equally ongoing in the recess of their hearts.

Of course, everyone has a favourite superstar, albeit the obsession with celebrities in modern-day Nigeria is fast becoming questionable and unbearable.

The majority of Nigerians have turned their faves into ‘demi-gods’, believing they can do no wrong and are always prepared to lose their moralism to vindicate their role models.

Nigerians need to start asking themselves what exactly these celebrities represent not only in front of the camera but also behind closed doors.

Celebrities are vulnerable individuals with massive followership; they are susceptible to errors and also have their own flaws. While society looks up to them for purpose and direction, the majority of these stars are seeking methodologies to hide their flaws.

While there are allegations of Genevieve Nnaji’s ongoing mental health ailment; let’s talk about the promiscuity that celebrities are promoting with their content.

In the latter part of 2021, a certain celebrity was dubbed a ‘queen and more’ after she failed to control the dissemination of her lewd tape on social media. Tiwa Savage, one of the most fascinating vocalists in the music sector garnered sympathizers from across the globe after her video leaked.

Her colleagues dubbed her a ‘strong woman’ following her negligence.

Afterwards, another controversial video of a much younger musician debuted on social media.

Real Madrid still confident on Mbappe
Despite this, Real Madrid are confident he will announce his decision to join them from PSG within the next fortnight.

Mbappe becomes a free agent this summer and it was he had in April agreed on terms with Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, PSG were prepared to offer the forward a 150m euros signing-on fee to keep him at the club for another two seasons.

Sports‘stay Home If You Are Nervous To Play’, Xhaka Lambaste Teammate Over Newcastle D by Azeemokoya(op): 11:39am On May 17, 2022
Arsenal midfielder, Granit Xhaka criticised his teammates over their performance in the 2-0 defeat at Newcastle, saying: “If you’re nervous stay at home.”

The midfielder felt his side’s display was that of those that could not handle the pressure of chasing a top-four spot.

A win would have taken Arsenal above Tottenham into the Champions League places with one game remaining.

Top four race in Spurs’ hands
As it stands, Arsenal will have to beat Everton with hope that Spurs lose at Norwich. Their rival needed just a draw to cement the 4th place.

“If someone isn’t ready for this game, stay at home. It doesn’t matter your age. If you’re nervous, stay on the bench or stay at home.

“You need people to come here and play. It’s one of the most important games for us. We’re feeling very disappointed for the people who came over here,” he said after the match.

“We wanted to have a big game but it didn’t happen,” Xhaka told BBC Sport.

“People speak always about leaders. We’re not playing tennis, we’re playing football. If someone is not ready for this pressure, stay at home.

“You can’t come here and play like this. We looked very bad today. The game plan was totally different. We played a totally different game.

“They were running us over from the first minute to the 96th. When you play like this, you don’t deserve to play in the Champions League.

“The thing is the pressure. If you can’t handle the pressure, it ends like today. It looks like we can’t do something against the pressure.”

The hosts opened the goal chat after Ben White’s own goal early in the second half before Bruno Guimaraes added a deserved second late on.

“If Tottenham lose and we win, you never know in football. “We have to hope. Before the game everything was in our hands. It’s a totally different game now,” added Xhaka.

The defeat was the Gunners’ sixth in 11 Premier League games – coming four days after they lost 3-0 at Tottenham – and boss Mikel Arteta accepted Newcastle were better than his side in every department.

PoliticsSylva Allegedly Withdraws Presidential Bid by Azeemokoya(op): 10:59pm On May 16, 2022
Chief Timipre Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum, has withdrawn from the presidential race in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has returned to work.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who monitored development at the ministry in Abuja on Monday reports that Sylva withdrew having considered the enormous work at hand at the ministry.

NAN reports that the Northern Solidarity Group had on May 9, presented the APC’s Expression of Interest and Nomination form to the minister to enable him to contest the party’s 2023 presidential primaries.

An official at the ministry who chose to remain anonymous said Sylva withdrew from the race to support President Muhammadu Buhari in his quest to achieve a robust oil sector.

“He promised to consult the leader of the country and his political leaders the day he was presented with the form.

“He believes that concentrating on his work will attract more investments for the oil and gas sector.

“He has consulted and he believes that the challenges at the ministry and oil and gas sector are enough issues for him to begin to deal with now than going to pursue presidential ambition at the expense of the nation.

“The oil and gas sector is the mainstay of the economy and it is not like any other ministry somebody can just come in and take over.

Crime5 Notable Opinions On Deborah Yakubu’s Death by Azeemokoya(op): 4:22pm On May 15, 2022
There have been a series of opinions since some Muslim students burnt alive a Christian student, Deborah Yakubu, in Shehu Shagari College of Education (SSCOE), Sokoto State. She was accused of insulting Prophet Muhammed in their school’s WhatsApp group. This is one act too many which has caused outrage on social media.

Let us take a look at some notable opinions on the tragic incident so far.

We must be compassionate –Femi Fani-Kayode
Former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, condemned the act. He also asked that humans should be compassionate. He posted on his Facebook page, “We cannot and must not tolerate the lynching of Christians, Muslims or members of any other religious faith in our streets…We must also put a stop to the targeting and murder of other ethnic nationalities.

“We are not a nation of animals but one of civilized human beings who must always be compassionate… when it comes to interacting with one another. May God guide, defend, and keep the peace of our people.”

It is a criminal act -Bishop Matthew Kukah
Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, said, “We condemn this incident in the strongest terms. I call on the authorities to investigate this tragedy and ensure that all the culprits are brought to book… This has nothing to do with religion. Christians have lived peacefully with their Muslim neighbors here in Sokoto over the years. This matter must be treated as a criminal act and the law must take its cause.”

Justice must prevail -Sultanate Council of Sokoto
In a statement released by Sa’idu Mohammadu Maccido, the Sokoto State Council secretary called for the offenders to be brought to book. The statement read, “The Sultanate Council has learnt with dismay the unfortunate incident at SSCOE that led to the loss of life of a female student of the institution. The Sultanate Council condemns the incident in its totality. Also, the perpetrators should be brought to justice.”

You can’t kill because of religion – Mr Macaroni
Activist and skit maker, Debo Adedayo, aka Mr Macaroni, tweeted, “Nothing justifies the beating and stoning that eventually led to killing and burning Deborah. This is not how to practice the religion of peace. And if there are people who genuinely believe that she deserved such; then, something has gone terribly wrong with our humanity.

“Every citizen has a right to life. No person or group of persons have the right to take the life of another citizen. You cannot kill another in the name of defending your religion. Do we all start killing ourselves in the name of religion? It is inhumane and it must end!”...

CrimeNigerian Lives Matter, But What’s It Worth? by Azeemokoya(op): 7:25am On May 15, 2022
Nigerian lives matter, but what’s it worth?
The life of the average Nigerian is worth little to nothing to the political elites and ruling class of the nation. The Nigerian life is only a phase in time, as the moment passes by; it will fizzle and the politicians would not bat an eye.

On Thursday, May 12; there was disarray across the nation after a young Nigerian lady identified as Deborah Samuel was assaulted and burnt by an angry religious mob for defaming Prophet Mohammed.

The videos of the assault instigated pandemonium and chaos; everyone was livid, especially the Nigerian Christians who reside in the South and Western part of the country.

Albeit the northerners who identify as Muslims stated that the killing was justified.

According to former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, he wrote on the microblogging site, Twitter:

“There is no Muslim that don’t respect the sanctity and the divinity of Jesus Christ.

And certainly, there is no Muslim that will ever tolerate denigrating our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).

Insulting him is our uncompromising REDLINE.

Respect our sensibilities and avoid it.”

Also, the former vice president of the federal country, Atiku Abubakar took down his tweets after initially condemning the mauling of Deborah, a Northern Christian.

This explains how much the life of the average Nigerian is worth.

A Nigerian is one bullet away from going to the great bullet; there is no freedom of expression due to the heinous stings of religious bigots. You are one word away from blasphemy.

As a Nigerian, you are one moment from being taken off the streets due to your tribe, religion, physical demeanour amongst other reasons. Tread carefully, you are a Nigerian.

PoliticsSokoto: CAN Asks Security Agencies To Bring Deborah’s Killers To Book by Azeemokoya(op): 11:09pm On May 13, 2022
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel, a 200 Level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, by some extremist fellow students on alleged blasphemy.

In a joint media briefing by CAN and CAN-Youth Wing, on Friday in Abuja, CAN’s General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, said that the unlawful and dastardly action of the perpetrators must be investigated.

Daramola said that the act should be condemned by all right thinking people and the security operatives should fish the perpetrators out and prosecute them.

“As long as the state fails to bring these beasts and criminals amidst us to book, the society will continue to be their killing fields.

“It is our expectation that the state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, would ensure that the matter is not swept under the carpet, as it was done before,” he said.

Daramola said that CAN urged teachers and preachers of religious intolerance, extremism and terrorism to repent before the wrath of God descended on them, if the State fail to bring them to book.

“Such people are agents of death amidst people. CAN recalled the provocative and demeaning advertisement of the Sterling Bank, where the bank compared the Resurrection of Jesus Christ to “Agege bread”.

“Nobody was attacked and the CAN leadership accepted the apology tendered by its Chief Executive, Abubakar Suleiman,’’ he said.

Daramola said that CAN acknowledged and commended the restraint of Christian students of the College who refused to embrace self-help and reprisal on those who murdered their colleague.

He said that it was CAN’s prayers that those vampires in religious garments would not push the country to a religious war.

“Government and the security agencies should stop treating them with kid gloves. Enough is enough.

PoliticsLawan Renews Hope On Pending Constitution Review Matters by Azeemokoya(op): 7:00am On May 13, 2022
President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan, has appealed to Nigerians with pending issues on constitution review not to lose hope.

Lawan said the doors of the National Assembly were still open for further engagements on issues not addressed during the last exercise.

He spoke in Abuja on Thursday while receiving in audience members of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, led by the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar.

Lawan, who recalled the recent review exercise said, “The D-Day came. And the voting took place and the rest is history, as they would say. We all feel sad but then that is democracy.

“But what you have done today is to take democracy to Nigerians because what you have done today is to show your belief in the parliament, the National Assembly.

“And you have given an example to the rest of Nigerians that never lose hope because your request failed. So many things failed. Of course many more passed because we have casualties in our bills.

“And I am taking the opportunity to appeal to other Nigerians, either individuals or institutions, organisations, NGOs, CSOs and so on, if there was anything that you wanted done or passed during the constitution amendment exercise, the latest one, and it failed, hope should not be lost.

“We are still around and this parliament is the people’s parliament.

“It is the only parliament that can kick start the process and therefore, people can still come back and remind us about their issues and maybe we change our strategies, the lobbyists and maybe we look at why it failed and how it can pass.”

PoliticsAdamu Garba Quits Presidential Ambition After Raising Over N80m Funds by Azeemokoya(op): 8:12am On May 11, 2022
Adamu Garba, a presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced his withdrawal from the race.

Adamu Garba told reporters in Abuja on Monday that he dropped out of the race because of the hefty expense of acquiring APC expressions of interest and nomination forms for the presidency, as well as the cost of running for political office.

He believes that setting the presidential nomination fee at N100 million will encourage the financialization and commercialization of the country’s political arena.

Adamu Garba claimed he decided not to seek an APC presidential nomination after consulting with his campaign team, which had raised N83.2 million in private and internet donations, according to him.

The money would be refunded to the contributors, he said.

Adamu Garba also stated that he would declare his next political move soon.

He said, “We believe this action is capable of over financialising our political space, institutionalizing vote-buying, encouraging corruption, and complete obliteration the youth and the poor from participation.

“When we raised this concern on several media fora, the party, however, believed the high cost of form will separate the serious contenders from unserious ones.

“This goes contrary to our belief that you can only separate serious contenders from unserious ones by the competency, capacity, credibility, strength of the programme, workable solutions, and sellable candidate to Nigeria through rapid intraparty debates and other high-level criteria reviews that can ensure we present a better leader for future for Nigeria.

“We further discovered that even if we went ahead to obtain the form, the party has foreclosed the plan for primary election because of the presence of the request for a Letter of Voluntary withdrawal on page 18 of the nomination form.

“I cannot, in all honesty, rally funds from my supporters in the hope that we will be having a primary election, then sign a postdated letter of voluntary withdrawal from the contest.”

Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi on Sunday, May 8, accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, an anonymous Senator, and Nigeria Police officials of carrying out shootings in the state on Sunday, May 8.

The Governor, who thanked God for President Muhammadu Buhari’s successful visitation last week, said the shooting reported while the President was on the ground was not carried out by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, while speaking to a congregation during a church service at a chapel in the Government House Abakiliki.

According to him, the shooting was carried out by members of the opposition party and goons of a sitting Senator.

The Governor stated that there has been shootings around the secretariat for the past two weeks, vowing that he would seal off the facility if there is another shooting.

Umahi said, “There were even questions as to why there was no announcement of IPOB about the President’s coming, the answer is I don’t know, refer the matter to God, everything worked out perfectly well and that could only come through fasting and prayers.

“There was a report of shooting; the shooting was done by the PDP people, shooting at the Secretariat and for the past two weeks, they have been shooting in that area, is that how they want to contest and win elections in Ebonyi State?”

Below are five essential things you absolutely need to have when traveling to Kano, whether for a long or a short time stay.

1. Sun Protection
Whether in the form of clothing or skincare products, your skin needs to be protected from the scorching Kano sun. Sunscreen, then a hat. If you are hijab-wearing, you can use a niqab without sunscreen. But under no circumstance should you skip sunscreen.

2. Power Bank
