A quick throwback story, I can remember when I was 10 years old in Mathematics class thinking of how I was going to become a superstar and tour the world once I become an adult.

I wanted to touch the clouds and soar in the firmaments; interesting, didn’t know that my mind was playing tricks on me.

Life indeed has a mind of its own.

I could have enjoyed Mathematics class and paid more attention because life is primarily about calculations and analysis. In adulthood, you are usually calculating how you spent your money and thinking of the move that will make you more money.

Adulthood has been relatively interesting, some days the sun shines on your face in the warmest of places, other days, you are gloomy, feeling alone in the dark running from your own reflection.

You are battling your imposter syndrome; you are doubting if you are ever going to be good enough for anything or anybody. Heck, you look up to the sun and wonder if your life has a meaning.

Questions upon questions, the heart of man keeps aching from the shackles in a man’s mind.

In the newly released music video, Rihanna gave A$AP a ‘yes’ response after he flaunted a grill braces unravelling the words, ‘marry me’.

Equally, the music video was released on Thursday, May 5, and has amassed a total of 1.5million views on the video streaming platform, YouTube at the time of this publication.

The multiple award-winning Barbadian singer who was dressed in a red veil said yes to the talented American rapper.

Towards the end of the video, a group of people can be seen throwing flower petals at the couple, which is reminiscent of when newlyweds walk down the aisle after getting married.

Meanwhile, it is not clear if the couple actually got married or if it was just part of the music video.

The apex socio-political organisation in the Southeast, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, declared on Thursday, May 5, that no politician of Southeast extraction should accept to be running mate to any presidential candidate in 2023.

President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor made the declaration at the Imeobi Ohaneze Ndigbo meeting in Enugu.

Obiozor said the clamour for Igbo to be elected president of Nigeria was morally and historically justifiable and a project to which every Igbo must commit

“All the double dealings about zoning and rotation of power are orchestrated conspiracy to deprive the Southeast of the right to produce the president.

“I encourage all the presidential aspirants from the zone to remain focused, tenacious and optimistic,’’ Obiozor said.

He explained that the Political Action Committee (PAC) of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo would meet several eminent Nigerians to persuade them to appreciate why a politician of Southeast extraction should be elected as president of Nigeria.

Obiozor lamented the weekly “sit-at-home’’ order observed on Mondays in the Southeast and said the Igbo are recording huge losses in incomes as a result of its observance.

“Ndigbo has tried severally to persuade the youths to realise the consequences of their actions,’’ he noted.

Jesse Lingard is set to leave Manchester United this summer after feeling let down over his treatment.

Lingard, who was on loan with West Ham will be a free agent this summer. Newcastle, AC Milan, Juventus and Paris St-Germain have already expressed an interest in the 29-year-old midfielder.

According to reports, new United boss Erik Ten Hag is keen to speak with the England international about his future. As it stands, he has no interest in talking to the Dutchman.

Top clubs want Lingard
There was significant interest in Lingard during the past two transfer windows. However, United refused to let him join a top-four rival.

Both former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his temporary replacement Ralf Rangnick told the forward he would get an opportunity to press his first-team claims.

However, he started only two Premier League games this season. He was also left upset on Monday when Rangnick did not introduce him from the bench during the 3-0 win against Brentford. That would have been a farewell appearance at Old Trafford for a player who joined United when he was seven.

Reacting to this, Lingard’s brother in post on social media showed his fury, complaining that after “20 years of blood, sweat and tears, four domestic trophies and three cup final goals” there was “not even a farewell” for the midfielder.

The midfielder feels he needs to resurrect his 32-cap England career. He featured in World Cup qualifiers in September and October 2021. He almost earned a place in the English squad for Euro 2020 due to some outstanding performances on loan at West Ham.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended the sale of its Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to aspirants seeking for elective positions in 2023 general elections from May 6 to May 10.

Mr Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

“In a revised timetable issued by the APC National Organising Secretary, Mr Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, the last day for submission of completed forms and accompanying documents is now set for Wednesday, May 11,” he said.

Morka said that the APC Congresses for election of local government, state and national delegates would hold from Thursday, May 12 to Saturday, May 14.

The APC sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination to aspirants began on April 23.

Meanwhile, Chris Ngige, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate and Minister of Labour and Employment, has revealed why he will not retire to run for president in 2023.

The Minister made the revelation to journalists shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, April 27.

He, on the other hand, denied knowledge of APC demands that all appointments quit before the presidential primary on May 30.

Chris Ngige claims that he has not received any particular instructions from the ruling APC regarding his presidential ambition, and that his decision to stay a member of the FEC is in accordance with the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

Manchester United defender, Raphael Varane has expressed hope that the club’s form will improve next season following a disappointing 2021-22 campaign.

United are on the brink of missing top European football action as they are currently sixth in the Premier League. As it stands, it’s only if Arsenal and Tottenham lose their remaining games and Man United win theirs that they can qualify for the Champions League.

There are signs that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has finally abandoned his presidential ambitions.

According to reports from Edo North, he has chosen a nomination form to enable him to run for the Edo North senatorial seat away from the spotlight.

On Friday, April 29, Oshiomhole revealed his intention to fill out a nomination form to run for president of the country.

The ceremonial announcement, which was scheduled to take place at Abuja’s Cyprian Ekwensi Centre for Arts and Culture, has been postponed till further notice.

Oshiomhole’s media aide, Victor Oshioke, had in a statement said: “The formal declaration of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for the office of President, Federal Republic of Nigeria under the platform of APC which was advertised to hold today, April 29th 2022 is hereby postponed. The new date for the event will be communicated appropriately.”

However, a political associate who was celebrating the end of Ramadan holiday at his Iyamho country house, Etsako West local government, over the weekend intimated that “the announcement was a ploy.”

“Oshiomhole for Senate is a fact that will be actualized,” the associate, who requested anonymity, continued.

He revealed that the former Governor of Edo State was there at his country estate to reassure his followers, who had gathered in large numbers to support his Senatorial bid.

Nollywood movies without the involvement of comedians, or skitmakers has done exceptionally well on the movie streaming platform, Netflix.

Does Nollywood really need popular skit makers to enthrall, captivate or engage their audience?
To be sincere, I know the quality of the Nigerian movie production have improved immensely since the 2010s; however the quality and depth of the scripts isn’t mesmerizing or memorable.

The camera quality and angles have become more hypnotic these days, but in terms of script writing and insight in the movies, I think the modern-day Nollywood films have derailed to some extent.

Understandably so, everyone wants to do comedy these days; because comedy is what is in vogue.

People just want to laugh and forget their sorrows; Nigeria is tedious, hence, do something concise, humorous and let us have a great.

While this is awesome, these movies are forgettable.

Why should skitmakers appear in movies when I could just watch them on my phones?

After spending thousands of naira to watch a comedy movie, I’m riding home thinking to myself, why didn’t I just use this money to buy shawarma; a bottle of drink and subscribe on my phone to watch some Mr. Macaroni comedy skit since comedy films these days are simply a compilation of several comic scenes designed to gas the audience.

In attempt to create a funny movie, movie producers’ influx too much social media comedians which is a beautiful idea.

However, too many stair spoils the stew. Too much sauce makes a meal lose its essence, keep it simple.

Two or three social media comedians in your movie is enough, you don’t need everyone and not everyone needs to be there.

Because these stars need time to fly; their audience wants to hear them talk and crack them up. Also, the comedians need to bring in their up chemistry; reliability and bring in their own energy.

This is what makes the old Nollywood seem more professional than it is now.


More money, yes, these new coteries of actors seem to make more money than the previous generation; however, you can’t recreate the connection and chemistry that the audience with the on screen actors.

The actors divulged their monologues like they knew what they were talking about, their bit their words and made the audience interested in what they had to say.

Simply put, they made the audience embody the character for a moment, they made them a part of the storyline; this explains why the union of Aki and Pawpaw will eternally remain in our hearts; the mischievous partnership of the late icon Sam Loco Efe and Nkem “Osoufia” Owoh; the diversity of Mercy Johnson.

On Sunday, May 1, the Akinwunmi Ambode Campaign Organization announced that mechanisms have been put in place to oppose Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the Lagos APC governorship ticket.

Sanwo-Olu is expected to leave office in 2023, according to the organisation.

Wale Oluwo, the chairman of AMCO and former Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, said this during a radio interview with Reuben Abati on CityTalks with Reuben Abati.

According to him, Ambode has been working “quietly” to put in place structures that will depose Sanwo-Olu as governor of Lagos State in 2023.

This comes less than a week after the Governor’s Advisory Council purportedly approved Sanwo-Olu for a second term.

The former governor’s group leader faulted GAC for endorsing Sanwo-Olu, saying the position of GAC is not a reflection of Lagos APC members.

“GAC doesn’t have such powers. Ambode did well. AMCO candidates will pick the nomination forms next week. We want to be the driver of that change in Lagos,” he said.

According to him, though they are in support of Ambode, he may not emerge as the group’s candidate.

Oluwo said, “Ambode is seriously interested in what happens in Lagos in 2023 and that “interest aligns with the expectation of the people. We will lead people to their expectations.”

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has thrown his weight behind the presidential ambition of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo over his political mentor and godfather, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Abiodun made his position known when he hosted Osinbajo who was on a consultation visit to the state and promised that the state would support his (Osinbajo’s) presidential ambition “to enable him continue with the projects of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.”

Abiodun who spoke at a stakeholders’ meeting during the visit of the VP, said in the last seven years, Osinbajo has contributed to the many successes recorded by the Federal Government, noting that he is eminently qualified to lead the country.

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has given kudos to President Muhammadu Buhari on his handling of the security situation in the country, saying Nigeria would have been worst than Afghanistan without the President’s intervention.


While interacting with State House correspondents after a meeting with Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Ayade said the insecurity situation in Nigeria could have been worse if Buhari had not come into power at the time he did.

“The situation in Nigeria is that without the support of other regions, it would amount to a shadow chase for a South Easterner to be President.

“This is the reason I have been in the frontline of the call that the two major political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should zone their presidential tickets to the South- East as they did for the South-West in 1999.

“In the absence of this zoning, I shall return to the senate and stay away from the presidential contest,’’ Orji Kalu said.

He said that the North was more advantageous to win elections in the democratic setting.

“I am even shocked with the number of aspirants coming from the South-West and the South-South.

“It is embarrassing that these aspirants (APC and PDP) have no single respect and concern for the South-East.

“I had thought they would think about the South-East; I thought they would support us. The amount of money being spent by these aspirants is alarming and they have forgotten that money alone cannot buy the Presidency.

“It has become a joke to an ordinary Nigerian who hears Southern commentators and aspirants rooting for a Southern President on the premise of fairness, equity and justice,’’ Orji Kalu said.

Nigeria recorded more than 100,000 suspected cases of cholera in 2021, its highest in recent times, the World Health Organisation, WHO declared in Abuja on Monday.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control had said earlier in the year that Nigeria recorded 111,062 cases of cholera in 2021 with 3,604 deaths, figures exceeding the number of cases and deaths recorded in 2020.

WHO Country Representative in Nigeria, Dr Walter Mulombo, corroborated the figure at a training session on oral cholera vaccine request and campaign planning organised by the Global Task Force on Cholera Control (GTFCC).

The GTFCC is an agency of the WHO.

Mulombo acknowledged the role of the GTFCC and its Country Support Platform (CSP) in the global roadmap for cholera control, especially in endemic countries.

He said the agency had proved to be effective in the development of National Control Plans, which included vaccination and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) activities.

“We are mindful of the support by different partners and donors through the WHO, for the response.

“This include reactive vaccination with more than 1.7 million persons vaccinated with two doses each of Oral Cholera Vaccination (OCV) in Bauchi, Jigawa, Yobe, and Zamfara states.

“We believe that the recently approved GTFCC application for Nigeria will significantly mitigate the risk of and upsurge of cholera cases during this rainy season.

“The application covers approximately nine million doses of OCV to implement two campaigns in 14 local government areas in nine states and the FCT,’’ Mulombo said.

He stressed the need for speedy shipment and allocation of the vaccines to ensure early vaccination.

The WHO representative said Nigeria had demonstrated the capacity to implement vaccinations in difficult settings like insecurity, as experienced in two local government areas in Zamfara.

The board of microblogging giant, Twitter, has accepted the buyout offer of $44 billion from Tesla’s billionaire owner, Elon Musk, to buy the company and take it private, the social media company confirmed on Monday.

The announcement effectively ends the controversy generated by Musk’s initial offer to buy the company at $54.20 per share, which translated to $43 billion, a few days after buying 9.2 percent of the company’s shares to become the single largest shareholder.

Musk’s first offer did not say at the time how he would finance the acquisition which made the Twitter board seek to fend off a hostile takeover by adopting a so-called “poison pill” that that could make a takeover attempt prohibitively expensive.

However, after initiating talks with the Musk team on Monday, the Twitter board came out with an announcement that it is selling the platform to the SpaceX owner in a deal valued at $44 billion.

“Twitter, Inc. today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by an entity wholly owned by Elon Musk, for $54.20 per share in cash in a transaction valued at approximately $44 billion. Upon completion of the transaction, Twitter will become a privately held company,” the company said.

The Presidency has chastised government opponents for influencing the US administration’s opinion of Nigeria, which is thought to have resulted in delays in the delivery of fighter jets to the country to help fight insecurity.

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah, is one of those opponents, according to a statement released by Presidency Spokesman Garba Shehu on Sunday.

Shehu stated in a statement titled; ‘Predicting Nigeria’s Collapse Is A Perennial Pursuit Of US Think Tanks And Policy Experts,’ that the clergyman provided quotes from a book written by former US Ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, which the Presidency noted do not indicate much improvement in the country.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, has called on security agencies, particularly anti-corruption agencies, to launch an investigation into all All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirants who paid N100 million or N50 million to purchase nomination and interest forms.

PDP national chairman Iyorchia Ayu issued a statement on Friday, which was signed by his communications secretary, Simon Imobo-Tswam.

His remarks were in response to the APC’s statement on the cost of nomination and interest forms.

The PDP claimed that selling the forms for presidential hopefuls for N100 million demonstrated that the APC is a corrupt and hypocritical party.

“This is a confusing and unsympathetic act by the ruling party. Those who buy the N100 million; and N50 million nomination forms should be investigated for fraud,” he said.

Meanwhile, the suspension of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, according to Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige, is contingent on the union.
On Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Ngige made the remark, urging for varsity teachers to be courteous.

“It depends on ASUU. The ball is in their court. They should go and meet the Benimi Briggs Committee; and look at what the committee is doing and make further inputs so that the work can be accelerated,” he said during the current affairs show.

Senator Ngige also believes he has the capacity to turn the country’s fortunes for good; insisting that if he wins the presidential race in 2023, two years would be enough to do that.

According to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Dubai, United Arab Emirate (UAE), has now become the preferred destination for human trafficking victims.

Mr. Nduka Nwanwenne, Zonal Commander, NAPTIP, Benin Zonal Command, made the announcement on Wednesday, April 20, in Benin, at the start of a three-day human trafficking sensitization session.

Nwanwenne added that, instead of being taken by land by their traffickers to their destinations, victims of human trafficking were now transported by air.

“This is because the human traffickers have stepped up their game, and the destination of choice of victims of human trafficking was now Dubai.

“Human Trafficking is not abating in the country, because traffickers make so much money from their victims so they take it as a business.

“The traffickers are now also concentrating on rural areas for recruitment of their victims”, he said.

The NAPTIP zonal commander also revealed that irregular migration was also been used as a ploy for human trafficking, such that its victims were being exploited for their organs.

“There is now an increase in organ harvesting not just for money rituals, but also for transplant.

“This is because the need for organs is higher than the supply”, he added.

While noting that the issue of human trafficking was still on the front burner, Nwanwenne said that there was the need for partnership to end human trafficking.

The NAPTIP Director said that baby sales/baby factory operations were part of human trafficking and that there was the need for concerted efforts to end human trafficking.
