Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), blamed several previous and current governors of the party for the party’s current predicament on Wednesday, April 20. This was Adamu’s opening statement during the APC’s 11th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which was held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, all governors, members of the National Assembly, previous governors, state chairmen, and other essential party stakeholders are in attendance at the APC NEC. “The APC Constitution states that serving governors are the state leaders, therefore the past governors must act like states men and provide guidance,” Adamu said. He said that the party constitution only recognised serving governors as their states leaders, adding that there was no need for competition and rivalry between past and serving governors. He said that the ego causing disunity between past and serving governors and other leaders of the party in some of state could pull the party down if not properly handled. This, he said, could affect the party’s electoral victory in the 2023 general elections. Adamu said going forward the party’s slogan would be APC first... https://newsroundtheclock.com/adamu-blames-apc-govs-for-party-crisis/

The advent of virtual games on the internet has seen a lot of innovation. The internet, bursting at the seams is laced with numerous ways to entertain oneself. From streaming your favorite series to playing virtual football and even your favorite online game, the pleasure derived from the internet is ceaseless and the same applies to sports lovers. It even gets better for those who are punters and in love with sports betting as the internet has made sports betting and casinos accessible online. Indeed, so popular has the internet made the former that it’s grown into a trillion-dollar industry. As the most popular sport on the planet, it’s little surprise that football is the most widely betted-on sport. However, fans of sports and sports betting, in general, are seeking new forms of entertainment to keep things fresh and engaging. As a result, the innovative idea of virtual football sprung to life. What is virtual football? As the name suggests, virtual football is a simulated version of the sport, football, which is created to allow fans to bet on the outcome. Virtual football is the same as real-life football with the only exception being that it takes place online. Though following the same rules as games in real life, it does not involve real players. Instead, the games are set up by each bookmaker and it uses a computer algorithm to determine what team wins each game. Why is virtual football so popular? Now that you understand what virtual football is, the next question to ask might be why is the pastime so popular? If regular football enjoys such a global following, what need is there for a simulated version of the sport? Well, virtual football carries a few advantages which sets it aside from your regular football, including the following: Non-stop games: Unlike regular football where fans have to wait until a fixture is scheduled before placing their bets, virtual football takes place continually. As soon as one game ends, another starts – 24 hours a day – so there’s always a market to bet on. Immediacy: It’s human nature to crave instant gratification, which is another reason why virtual football is so popular. Standard football games take 90 minutes and in some cases longer to complete, whereas a virtual football match is over within three minutes. Now that’s an immediacy worth writing home about. Familiarity: Also the familiarity with the user interface amongst users in some ways has contributed to the huge success of virtual football among its players. This familiarity among fans of the sport makes them instantly comfortable with the concept and enhances their enjoyment of the experience. It has to be said that virtual football betting is a fun and exciting alternative to real-life football betting. Although some of the ecstasy and the thrill may be lost, as the games do not feature real-life players, it should be noted that virtual football and other virtual games are still incredibly compelling due to the high-quality graphics and sound effects featured for added realism. Apart from the above-stated advantages virtual football carries, many punters have turned toward virtual football betting due to a few reasons which we will be highlighting in this piece. It’s Easily Adaptive Features/Uniqueness: It has to be reiterated especially for newbies that virtual football is not based on any real-life football, and that no prior knowledge of football is required to enjoy betting on events here. Just the same way you don’t need to know anything about the subject matter of a slot game before you can play, one doesn’t need to be a football expert to play virtual football. League Diversity/Availability: Another reason punters are drawn to virtual football is the diversity of leagues available at their fingertips... https://newsroundtheclock.com/virtual-football-why-more-nigerians-are-in-love-with-it/

Sheikh Nuru Khalid, the former Chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters Mosque, has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari. On Sunday, April 17, the digital Imam remarked during a meeting wit activist Omoyele Sowore that the same administration of Buhari that negotiates with bandits and terrorists is now afraid of citizens speaking out, particularly those who seek their rights. He believes that Nigerians should be allowed to talk freely without fear of harassment or intimidation, or else they will become slaves. He stated, “I have conditions for reconciliation, one of them is I won’t withdraw any word that I’ve spoken and the second condition is that no one will caution me on any issue. “If it is against the will of the government, they have security operations, let them arrest me. If it is against the tenets of Islam, summon the FCT Committee of Imam to call me and ask. I am feeling as if I gained my freedom, I can speak out freely, I don’t mind anybody who feels good or bad. “My mission is not to convert people to Islam but create awareness in the minds of Nigerians that we are not slaves; our mothers gave birth to us as free people, we are free people, that freedom is very vital. “If we can maintain that freedom, we can speak out against bad governance but if we are afraid of them, we are now slaves. Somebody will just take one person and negotiate price. “That’s what is happening in Nigeria today, they’re kidnapping citizens, selling them out. Look at someone that can bear to negotiate with criminals, now he’s afraid to listen to citizens. There’s a problem.” After preaching against the administration of President Buhari and its management of insecurity in the country, Khalid was suspended as Chief Imam of Apo Mosque by the mosque’s steering committee. After a recent terrorist attack on an Abuja-Kaduna train, the cleric chastised Buhari for not visiting Kaduna. https://newsroundtheclock.com/buhari-negotiates-with-terrorists/

In recent times, clout chasing has become the primary characteristics of social media users who are seeking validation and relevance. Clout chasing communicates the neediness to be talked about without necessarily creating anything valuable; the aim and objective of throwing stunts on social media is to make oneself noticeable. Who was the clout chaser who cried wolf? On Thursday, April 14, a Young Nigerian lady identified as Omotoyosi Adesegun got herself into trouble after she shared a post pertaining to alleged rape, molestation and kidnapping. She wrote: “I’m being kidnapped, guys. I’m being raped. Number 78, Obayan Street, Pako, Akoka, Lagos.” The sensitive post quickly gained traction as Social media good Samaritans informed the police about the alleged assault. Albeit, it was later discovered to be mere clout chasing. The young lady, Omotoyosi later mentioned in a video that she only made the announcement for ‘clout chasing’. “I tweeted earlier that I was kidnapped and r*ped. It’s false. I’m so sorry for this. Please stop calling and threatening the numbers,” she stated. Toyosi have since received backlash from Nigerians for making false claims on social media. Afterwards, another user of the social media platform, @Truthfully83 revealed that the young woman has been arrested by the police for public disturbance. “Toyosi the alarmist, who twitted today that she is being kidnapped and raped, has been arrested by the Lagos State police command. “She will be arraigned before a Lagos court for disturbing public peace,” the user revealed. What is the lesson here? It’s quintessential for people to be careful with what they air on Social media, could come back to haunt them. Omotoyosi’s controversial tweet is coming at a sensitive time in the history of Nigeria. She published a tweet pertaining to sexual assault within days after a popular Nigerian recording artiste, Osinachi Nwachukwu was reportedly violated by her husband... https://newsroundtheclock.com/clout-chasing-the-woman-who-cried-wolf-on-twitter/

The passing of popular gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, has caused uproar on social media and offline. Aside from dying in her prime, many people were devastated after hearing that the “Ekwueme” crooner was a victim of domestic violence. Let’s take a look at some reasons people stay in abusive relationships and marriages, and solutions to this menace. Financial insecurity Some people stay in abusive relationships and marriages because of financial and emotional insecurity. An individual that is dependent on another for financial provisions will likely not leave his or her partner. In this situation, the solution is to be in charge of your life emotionally and financially. Do not allow your worth to be dictated by your partner. Children For some partners, it is the children in the marriage that keeps them there. These people do not want the children to feel the effect of their parents’ separation. Hence, they endure abuse. You have to stay alive and healthy to be there for your children. If it is your wish for a settlement, do it from afar. The society The society has made many people stay in abusive marriages over the years. “What will people say” is one statement that has halted dreams and reduced the voices of many people. The society does not need to dictate to you how you should live your life, especially when it is a life threatening situation. Be intentional about what you want. The society will be alright in the end... https://newsroundtheclock.com/5-observations-on-domestic-violence/

The United Kingdom parliament has reached an agreement to sign a deal that would send asylum seekers who cross the English Channel in small boats, to Rwanda while their claims are processed in the UK. The move which was proposed two weeks ago by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, was put on hold as the parliament could not come to an agreement on how the deal would be handled. But after a lot of deliberations, the agreement which will be worth millions of dollars to the African country, which was announced on Thursday and will target people trying to reach England in small boats and claim asylum. Home Secretary Priti Patel will sign the 120 million pound ($158m) agreement for a “migration and economic development partnership” in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. According to Patel, the cost would be funded by UK taxpayers. As part of the deal, crossing the English Channel in small boats will be made a crime, and those who are allowed to stay will have to live in strictly-controlled camp-like environments while their cases are considered. Last year alone, more than 28,000 people crossed from Europe to the UK, many in small dinghies, with many losing their lives after their boats sank. https://newsroundtheclock.com/uk-signs-deal-multimillion-pound-sending-asylum-seekers-to-rwanda/

The United Nations Children’s agency, UNICEF, says that a total of 11,536 schools in Nigeria have been shut down in two years under President Muhammadu Buhari due to the activities of bandits and terrorists, especially in the northern region. The agency made the disclosure on Thursday while commemorating the 8th anniversary of the abduction of 276 students at Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, in Borno State, It called on the Federal Government to make schools safe for Nigerian children as well as providing a secure learning environment for every child in Nigeria, especially for girls, so as to increase girls’ enrolment, retention, and completion of education. In a statement to mark the Chibok abduction, UNICEF Representative in Nigeria, Peter Hawkins, urged the government to do everything possible to return out of school children back to schools by creating safe environments that are conducive for learning. “Today marks eight years since the first known attack on a learning institution in Nigeria on 14 April 2014, in which 276 students at Government Girls Secondary School Chibok in north-east Nigeria were abducted by a non-state armed group,” Hawkins said. “Since then, a spate of attacks on schools and abductions of students – sometimes resulting in their deaths – has become recurrent in the last two years, especially in the north-west and north-central regions of Nigeria. “Unsafe schools, occasioned by attacks on schools and abduction of students, are reprehensible, a brutal violation of the rights of the victims to education, and totally unacceptable. “Their occurrences cut short the futures and dreams of the affected students and the invisible harm school attacks inflict on the victims’ mental health is incalculable and irredeemable. “Girls have particularly been targeted, exacerbating the figures of out-of-school children in Nigeria, 60 percent of whom are girls. “It is a trajectory which must be halted, and every hand in Nigeria must be on deck to ensure that learning in Nigeria is not a dangerous enterprise for any child, particularly for girls. “In Nigeria, a total of 11,536 schools were closed since December 2020 due to abductions and security issues. https://newsroundtheclock.com/11536-nigerian-schools-shut-in-two-years-under-buhari-unicef/

Gov. Bello Matawalle expressed his displeasure on Wednesday, April 13, with the creeping reappearance of banditry and kidnapping in sections of Zamfara. Matawalle had noticed the steady return of bandits and kidnappers to the state, according to Malam Zailani Bappa, the governor’s Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Media, and Communications, who stated in Gusau. “Strong facts indicate that the recurrence of banditry in the state is aided and abetted mostly by powerful indigenes. “Some of these people are strong personalities who the people respect. “There are also, among the generality of the people who receive paltry sums of money to serve as informants to bandits,’’ Bappa quoted Matawalle as saying. He added that it was based on suspicion that the governor directed those taking political appointments to swear by the Holy Quran while taking oath office. “That is why sometimes back, I swore with the Holy Quran and asked all those in my administration to do the same, distancing ourselves from acts of banditry. “I also called on all opinion and political leaders in the state to do the same and they did,’’ the governor was quoted to have also said... https://newsroundtheclock.com/matawalle-expresses-concern-at-resurgence-in-banditry-across-zamfara/

On Tuesday, April 12, the Chairman of the newly formed Parks Management Committee, PMC, Mr. Musiliu Akinsanya, well known as MC Oluomo, told Lagosians that the process of taking over parks and garages in the state was proceeding smoothly. He, on the other hand, refuted claims that three people were killed on Monday in a battle in Lagos’ Fagba neighbourhood between his members and those of the suspended National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, over an alleged forced takeover of the garage. In a press conference, Oluomo‘s spokesman, Jimoh Buhari, said that his boss just travelled to see a traditional ruler in the Fagba part of the state on Monday, and that no clashes or deaths occurred. He admitted that only a tricycle windscreen was smashed. Buhari said: “There is nothing like a forceful take over of garages. No crisis broke out in Fabga when MC Oluomo went to visit a monarch in that area. Besides, Fagba is controlled by our people. How would we attack our own people? “There is also nothing like using guns to take over garages, all we need to do is to write letters informing the operators of our intention. Besides, before now, 95 percent of former NURTW executives in Lagos State, were for MC Oluomo, only a few of them were not. “However, everybody is welcome in this new process. So, there is no cause for alarm. The area people are anticipating tension is only the Meiran axis. People are just exaggerating.” https://newsroundtheclock.com/mc-oluomo-allays-fears-over-garages-parks-takeover/

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the decision of the party’s zoning committee to throw open its 2023 presidential ticket, took a different twist as Southern governors on the party’s platform have insisted that the ticket must be zoned to the South. The governors who made their stance known after a meeting at the Akwa Ibom Governor’s lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, on Friday, said it was only fair and equitable for the party to zone its 2023 presidential ticket to the South. The governors who were part of the meeting included Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Douye Diri (Bayelsa) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu). Addressing newsmen at the end of the meeting, Abia State Governor, Ikpeazu, who is the Vice Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, said those against zoning have not actually told anyone, “why zoning will not give us victory. “We feel that the best thing to do is zone the presidency to the South, and we stand on that position.” “Our position is that first, we are committed to the unity of our party and we have worked hard to make sure that this party remains a strong and viable vehicle to ‘rescue’ Nigeria come 2023. “Be that as it may, we want to draw attention to the fact that we have agreed as Southern Governors in Lagos and also in Delta that this party has to respect the zoning principle as enshrined in our Constitution. “And to that effect, we feel that the best thing to do is zone the presidency to the South, and we stand on that position,” Ikpeazu said. https://newsroundtheclock.com/southern-pdp-governors-insists-on-zoning/

Leke Adeboye, the son of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) General Overseer Enoch Adeboye, has apologised for referring to some of the church’s pastors as “goats.” Despite his father’s sermon, the Senior Personal Assistant to the General Overseer blasted pastors who preached on the day after the church’s thanksgiving ceremony last Sunday. In a separate Instagram post on Thursday, Pastor Leke clarified that the remark was not meant as an insult to the pastors. ”I wish to use this medium to tender my unreserved apologies for the statement made from my social media handle about some of our esteemed Pastors,” he said. “The disciplinary measure taken by the Mission is well received and this period will be used to reflect and introspect. “I wish to crave your indulgence to please forgive my extreme statement which I wish to emphasize was absolutely not intended to insult or malign. “I also wish to apologise profusely to the entire leadership and Pastors of our beloved church who might have been hurt by this statement.” Meanwhile, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has rued oil theft in the country, warning that Nigeria might go bankrupt if the trend is not checked. ‘Daddy Adeboye,’ as he is fondly called, said this in a sermon to his congregation during a thanksgiving service on Sunday. “Who is stealing the oil? Where is the money going? What do they want to do with the money? Who are the foreign nations buying this stolen oil? How many of these nations of the world are your friends?” he asked. Abraham Lincoln defined democracy as a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Nigeria transcended from military regime into the democratic system of government in 1999. However, the government has since placed more attention on itself than on the people. Hence, thrashing Lincoln’s definition of democracy. Let’s take a look at five instances the Nigerian government has failed to address the issues bedeviling this nation. Reopening of Lekki Tollgate Police brutality is a challenge the people face regularly. In order to fight this menace, the people protested and demanded for a right to live freely without fear. However, the infamous #EndSARS protest of October 2020 led to the killing of protesters by Nigerian soldiers at the Lekki Tollgate, Lagos. This act caused more mayhem in the state as properties were destroyed and some lives, lost. It’s been over a year since the incident happened and the government has not addressed some of the issues the people protested against. However, they are clamoring for the reopening of the Lekki Tollgate which the people have vehemently condemned. Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu said, “They are reopening this tollgate that has such a painful memory when justice has not been fully given to the victims. The message they are passing is that they have no regard for the lives of Nigerian citizens.” The decision of the government to reopen the tollgate is a slap on the faces of the people who protested for good governance, accountability, and fairness. Bandits have taken over strategic areas in the country; soldiers are being killed on a norm; and civilians are losing their freedom to terrorists. Sadly, all the government cares about is to gag those who dare to speak up. Sheikh Khalid said he was not given a fair hearing. He added, “When I asked former president Goodluck Jonathan to resign, the sky did not fall. If it’s a sin to ask for a secure Nigeria, I’m ready for hell.” Increase in price of commodities In recent times, the price of commodities has skyrocketed. The populace is going through difficult times to meet their basic needs. Although the people voted for “change” in 2015, they were not informed that it was retrogressive change that they would experience. The uncaring attitude of the government has increased the rate of poverty in the country. Shying away from its responsibilities has only proven that the government has never placed the people as a priority... https://newsroundtheclock.com/5-facts-of-an-uncaring-government/

Ayodele Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti State and a presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has stated that he will not step down for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, or any other consensus presidential candidate agreed upon by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). On Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ show on Wednesday, Fayose claimed that the concept of consensus is undemocratic. He added that both Atiku and Saraki were All Progressives Congress (APC) runaway politicians who returned to the PDP when things became tough in the APC. Fayose chastised Atiku and Saraki for pursuing the PDP’s single presidential ticket in 2023 after switching from one party to the other. According to the former governor, the APC would not have won the presidential election if Atiku and Saraki had stayed in the PDP in 2015 and supported former President Goodluck Jonathan despite his inadequacies. Saraki and Atiku returned to the PDP merely because they did not succeed in the APC, and he wondered if they would have returned if they had been Presidents while in the APC. https://newsroundtheclock.com/fayose-vows-not-to-step-down-for-atiku-others-in-race-for-2023-pdp-ticket/

Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa called for a united effort to address the nation’s challenges on Tuesday, April 5. Okowa made the phone call while visiting former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun. According to Mr Kehinde Akinyemi, Special Assistant to Obasanjo on Media, Okowa was in Abeokuta on a private visit to discuss Nigeria’s situation and some Delta-related issues with Obasanjo. According to the statement, Okowa urged the federal government to draw on the wealth of experience of past and present Nigerian leaders to solve the country’s problems. “The insecurity and the economic challenges have the capacity to destroy our nation and that is not in our best interest as a country. “It is time that Nigeria’s past and present leaders, with other critical stakeholders, came together to discuss our challenges and proffer solutions. “We need the collective efforts of all at this period. As it stands today, the APC-led government cannot deal with the challenges alone. “We need far-reaching consultations, not only with those in government, but also with those outside government, particularly those who had been part of running this country,” Okowa said. Okowa said it was more important to seek solutions to the country’s challenges than nursing presidential ambition. “As at today, I have not made up my mind whether to contest for the presidential election. The important thing is not about myself. https://newsroundtheclock.com/okowa-seeks-greater-synergy-in-redressing-societal-challenges/

Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, missed the last World Cup in Russia but has bounced back after edging Nigeria to the ticket. Nigeria’s Super Eagles, on the other hand, failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 2006. FIFA World Cup is in every 4 years, four years is enough for Nigeria’s National team to buckle up and make the necessary moves in performing much better in the next World Cup in 2026 which will be jointly hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico. The Super Eagles have lost it this year to The Black Stars obviously and there is no reward for the competition stage they dropped from. Nigeria can pick up the pieces However, Super Eagles can pick up their pieces and work on how to make it a whole in the next World Cup as the team have lost the legacy and prestige including the prize attached to the competition this year. All the 32 countries that qualified for the 2022 World Cup, will receive $1.5m each to prepare for the tournament. The eventual winner of the trophy will take home $42m, while the runners-up and third-place teams pocket $30m and $27m respectively. The fourth-place nations will go home with $25m, fifth to eighth places will receive $17m, while $13m will go to ninth to the 16th placed teams. Interestingly, the 17th to 32nd placed countries will not go empty-handed as they will get $9m. Nigeria, who have missed out on a seventh World cup appearance, will not be part of this largesse. Ghana is back in the World Cup after three consecutive appearances in 2006, 2010 and 2014. All Nigeria needs to do is to send a strong message starting from their next set of games. The Super Eagles must as unite price to the continent and the world that it is no longer business as usual on the field of play. The workload on the new Super Eagles coach Moreover, the incoming coach after Austin Eguavoen’s sack has a lot on his hands. The sack of Gernot Rohr had been expected due to the ongoing wrangling. But the German would have done the business as he had never failed to qualify Nigeria for a single tournament since the beginning of his tenure,. This would be a discussion for another day. The incoming coach will have to get the right formation and the right set of starting eleven to get us going. No doubt, Nigeria has talent all-round the field while some are still looking for a chance on the national team. https://newsroundtheclock.com/what-next-for-nigeria-after-missing-qatar-2022-world-cup/
