wow, alot of peeps out there still dont know whats happening in corporate organizations, bsc and hnd from a fed or state institution is just a basic qualification no matter who is better, they are all the same, even if u see some adverts prefering bsc to hnd it still doesn't matter, is only a very few dat can get dier dream jobs, dat is six figures job if u kno wat i mean, not up to 10% of the total bsc and hnd grads dat we have, the remaining must look for a way foward, i am a teller in firstbank and in a rural branch, come and see local farmers accounts reading in millions, and graduates still concentrate in urban areas waiting for white colar job dat may never come, alot of dem end up as secondary school teachers, hmm, we despise illiterates but if u're working in a bank and u're posted to a rural branch u're going dere to serve the illiterates, am not saying every graduates shd become a farmer but we shd all have ideas dat can make us negotiate contracts, become consultants or successful entrepreneurs if u're a grad and u're not thinking in dis direction sorry for u, u'll end up as a corporate slave. all those books rich dad and poor dad, as man thinketh, etc will only give motivation or inspiration not real business ideas, u have to search for ideas urself.

this is a very interesting topic, but i must make a correction here, is not the university that is over rated, is the tertiary education system in Africa that is over rated, all the inventions you guys are talking about were not made by africans but yankee guys, some one should tell me what meaningful development tertiary education in general has brought to africa, especially west and east africa, nothing, so as it is now tertiary education is being over rated in these regions, it does not matter whether u're a university or polytechnic graduate, you are the only one that can make your self innovative and dynamic, one major reason why things are falling apart for graduates both those that are employed and those that are unemployed is that the informal sector has been neglected to the core, do you think the yankees just started inventions out of nowhere, it took some of them many years of research and trial and error, i mean actual research not paper pushing, so anyone still hanging on university pride or polytechnic pride should wake up, the reason why we all obtained certificates whether bsc or hnd is to ensure financial and social upgrade, and now both bsc and hnd graduates are in the unemployment mess, and no positive change is expected in the country anytime soon, so every body shine your eyes or you will end up becoming a frustrated element in the society, for example, in the construction industry miscreants thrive more than graduates, in most cases the architect might be the only educated fellow involved, but the site engineer, mason, electrician, plumbers, tilers, painters etc are all miscreants, same as other industries. everybody open your eyes, being a graduate whether bsc or hnd is a past glory.

I'm going to be straight here, no much grammar, We youths must find an urgent solution to this worrisome development, right from childhood days we were told that education is the best legacy and without doubt education is indeed the best legacy but unfortunately Nigeria failed to get it right because education becomes the best legacy when there is infrastructural development and industrialization, in the absence of these two key elements the graduates of various institutions e.g universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, monotechnics, secondary schools etc will become employment slaves to both the government and private organizations.
You would see hundreds of thousands applying for employment where the total number of people to be recruited both by connections and merit will not be more than five thousand, eg the recent customs recruitment.
The private sector exploiting and extorting nigerians in the name of employment.
Self employment would be impossible because when there is no infrastructure, start up capital will be very high.
so the average nigerian graduate is in a trap.
i don't want to talk too much because you all know these problems, i only want us to talk about the way out.
we can't regret going to school only because the prospect of decent jobs for all graduates is dim, we can use our education to enforce good governance, the illiterates depends on us for revolution, revolution is not left in the hands of illiterates but in the hands of educated fellows. its our responsibility, is what we owe the ordinary nigerians. i await your contributions.
