Ileke-IdI:It is really not a must for me to attend to every moronic and misguided Fashola tread on NL. You are not blaming Fashola but you asked a silly question is eko finally baje-ing?as if Fashola not saying anything about the unfortunate accident and needless deaths is enough to send Lagos and 18 million Lagosians down the drain. Sometimes I question the sanity of some of you people on NL. It's like your fingers gets typing instructions from under your feet. And knowing Fashola and his past actions in times of disaster, he's probably visited the families or sent his aids to console the families and offer the next of kins assistance from financial to jobs like he did with the Atlas cove folks and when he donated houses to families of murdered journalists or when helped/sent dying kidney and liver patients abroad for treatment, saved the life of one of Nigeria's soccer legends Peter Fregene when the Nigeria Football Federation could not assist him, not even his state, didn't the same Fashola recognized, erected a park and topped it off with a statue in honor of Sam Okwaraji and a million naira for his family after his state and the federal Government refused to lift a finger? The fact is, it matters not how many dumb, misguided and ill informed threads and smears, Fashola is a better human being than all of you NL clowns and the rest of your useless leaders in Nigeria put together. |
They do have every right to protest government actions an indaction, it's all part of democracy. The fact is, people can not have it both ways. You want development, but you don't want to pay for it or be taxed for it. Obviously at a little over 2 billion dollars budget, the government does not have the money/resources to keep pace with the infrastructural needs of 18 million people. People just have to make up their minds. Development or no development. |
24-hour Power Supply To Strategic Buildings, Areas In Lagos CBD Soon Aug 17, 2010 - Having fulfilled a promise made in 2008 to electrify the outer Marina, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Tuesday said strategic buildings and areas in the Lagos Central Business District (CBD) will enjoy 24-hour electricity supply before the end of next year. Governor Fashola, who made the disclosure Tuesday at the Stakeholders' Forum of the Lagos Central Business District at the City Hall in Central Lagos, named some of the buildings to include the Lagos General Hospital, the Lagos High Court, the Island Maternity and the City Hall as well as some streets among others. Addressing a capacity crowd of stakeholders, including market men and women, captains of industries, prominent residents of Lagos Island, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Francisco Abosede and some other members of the State Executive Council and the Legislature, Chairmen of the two Local Government Areas in Lagos Central Business District, a representative of the Oba of Lagos and other White Cap Chiefs, among others, Governor Fashola also spoke on plans for total redevelopment of some traditional and historical sections of the city especially starting from Igan Olusi to Idumota. Governor Fashola told the Stakeholders, "Three years ago when we met at Muson, I promised you that we would electrify the whole of Outer Marina by December 2008 and today, that promise has been fulfilled. And now, I can tell you that we are already working on a plan that will enable us supply 24-hour electricity to some strategic buildings in Lagos and I believe by this time next year when we are holding the next Stakeholders' Meeting, we would have switched on that power supply". The Governor, however, said the ability to extend the same plan to the whole of Lagos would depend on steps being taken by the Federal Government in its on-going unbundling of the Power sector in the country adding that the State Government is monitoring the progress and is also making preparations to take advantage of the unbundling when it is eventually completed. "While we are waiting for them, your Government has already taken the lead because when we start the generation of electricity, we still have to distribute it and we are going to need metres, we are going to need transformers, we are going to need cables, we are going to need poles", the Governor said pointing out that the present administration has already taken the lead by signing a joint venture with a world renowned Egyptian firm for the production of transformers near Badagry. He said the State Government has plans to produce other electrical accessories such as metres, cables and others pending when the power sector reform would be completed adding that the ultimate plan was to provide an uninterrupted power supply to the whole State. On the total redevelopment of some sections of the city, Governor Fashola who said the Local Government Chairmen on the Island are involved in the plan, said a team of architects who would carry out the redevelopment "is headed by a Lagosian who practices in New York but has come back home to begin the total redesign of some sections of the city". Commending his immediate predecessor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for investing a colossal amount in the upgrading and revitalization of the Lagos Central Business District, the Governor declared, "Some back room economists at that time said there was concentration on the Island to the detriment of the whole State. How wrong they were; how shortsighted they were", noting that it is that same Island that millions of people head to everyday for their daily living. "However, soon after the commissioning of the project by the immediate past Governor in May 2007, we were alarmed by the re-emergence of the old habits and attitudes which earlier destroyed the beauty of the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria", the Governor noted adding that in order to check the decay, the present administration created the Office of the Special Adviser on Central Business District. Explaining that an investment in the Lagos CBD "is an investment for the sustenance of millions of poor people who derive their daily living from trading on the Island", Governor Fashola declared, "As a Government that flowed inexplicably and necessarily from that administration, we were determined that this investment will not be put to waste". The Governor appealed to the Stakeholders to contribute their own quota in sustaining the beauty of the city and its further development. This, the Governor said, could be achieved if the land owners in the city could come together and pool their lands together in other to attract private sector investment in viable and qualitative real estate. As a measure to beautify the environment, Governor Fashola urged those having houses along the streets to put some coat of paint on the exterior of such houses to enhance the beauty of the city. Pledging that his administration would make the city of Lagos and the whole State a model in Africa, Governor Fashola declared, "Trust us, believe us, we will continue to show good leadership by going the extra mile by providing a sustainable brighter rewarding future for the good people of Lagos and Lagosians". In his goodwill message, the Chairman of Lagos West Local Government Area, Mr. Wasiu Esinlokun commended the State Government for the investments in the upgrading of the Island adding that the Local Governments on the Island would continue to do their best to maintain its beauty in partnership with the State administration. Also in his goodwill message, a chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, commended Governor Fashola for "the wonderful work he is doing in Lagos and urged the residents to "ensure that the works continue to be wonderful". In his goodwill message, Chairman of the House Committee on the CBD, Honourable Ayoola Ahmed noted that the glory of Lagos is back and congratulated the Governor for the accomplishments that ensured the return of the glory of Lagos. Other people who gave goodwill messages included the Chairman of the Lagos East Local Government, representative of the Iyaloja-General of Lagos Island, Alhaja Iyabo Fagbemi who also commended the Governor for his good works and pledged the continued co-operation of the market men and women and the Managing Director of Shell who pledged that the company would continue to fulfill its Corporate Social Responsibility on the Island. Earlier in his welcome address, the Special Adviser on the Lagos Central Business District, Honourable Oyinlomo Danmole, recalled that prior to the creation of the Office of the Special Adviser on the Lagos CBD, the transportation in the city and all other arrangements were chaotic but expressed joy that "for more than three years together we have restored some level of sanity to our dear environment in Lagos CBD". Medical Waste disposal The NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture medical incinerator project built in partnership with the Lagos State government at the Epe General Hospital was recently official commissioned. This was a collaborative initiative to ensure that hazardous medical waste in Lagos and environs will no longer be disposed indiscriminately. The brand new, 75kg/hr Pennram Medical Waste Incinerator is the first of its kind in Lagos State and second in the country. It has the capacity to handle a maximum of 1,500kg per week of medical waste from the Lagos State government designated hospitals. In order for the project to operate at optimum capacity, a 40 KVA soundproof generator, 33,000-liter diesel tank as well as the renovation of an existing building on site to serve as the storage facility and the operations office, were commissioned along with the incinerator. Previously the hospitals owned by the State government had no designated means or site for medical waste disposal and even Chevron Nigeria Ltd., was taking its medical waste as far as Warri/ Escravos in Delta State for safe disposal. The long storage time between generation of the waste and final disposal increased the potential risk of exposure to those who have to collect, transport and dispose the waste, and also to the environment. “This facility is a product of NNPC/Chevron JV’s tradition of care and commitment to healthcare in its areas of operation. It cost the NNPC/Chevron JV hundreds of millions to be build. We have committed to bear the annual maintenance cost, also in the tens of millions. The project will serve the need of the Epe General Hospital, other Lagos State government hospitals within the area as well as Chevron’s medical facilities in Lekki and Gbagada,” Governor Fashola said. He went further to explain that the project would benefit the Lagos State Government by providing a paradigm shift in the way medical waste is disposed in the state, enhancing capacity by showcasing global best practices for medical waste disposal and complementing the growing medical infrastructure in the state. The NNPC/Chevron joint venture has provided professional training to personnel that will be handling the day-to-day operations of the facility and will guarantee professional and sustainable management of this very important public health facility. The project has so far provided employment for the local community during the construction phase and offers ongoing employment opportunities to sustain its operations. It is believed the facility will inspire all the stakeholders to deeply consider the impact of improperly managed medical waste on the environment, while encouraging establishment of more medical incinerators in the country. |
Lekki/Epe Expressway: Nollywood actor, NANS, others back Fashola y RAZAQ BAMIDELE Tuesday, August 17, 2010 Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) of Lagos state has received commendation for the concesioning of Lekki/Epe Expressway, described as a real step towards building a true mega city. The commendation came from Nollywood actor, Mr. Ayo Badmus, South West (Zone D) Secretary of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Eniola Opeyemi, and an activist, Razaq Olooko-Oba. The trio, in a chat with journalists in Lagos, described as “subjective and sheer political opportunism,” the continuous efforts of “some misled people of the state” to discredit the project. mr. Badmus, who advised that people should rather be encouraged and not incited against the government over the project pointed out that “the project is a laudable phenomenon at returning the city to the Lagos of our dream where you can go about your business 24 hours a day unmolested.” according to Opeyemi, ithere was nothing unusual or criminal about the arrangement and dismissed as untrue, claims of massive rip off by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). “We must know that for every development, there must be some sacrifice by the people wanting to enjoy it. The London Bridge and other phenomenal projects that we refer to came with sacrifices by the people enjoying them today,” Opeyemi reminded. He stated further that “We have clamoured for development throughout our life and now that Fashola is giving us a dose of it, we think we should support him.” Olooko-Oba, who is the Secretary of Oodua Self Determination Group (COSEG), threw more light on the intended operation of the handlers of the project, explaining that it was the Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) arrangement that was obtainable the world over. “For us, we know that BOT arrangement is only meant for the company to realise its money for a duration stated in the contract. So, if you look at it, Lagosians are the major beneficiaries because LCC will have to transfer the project to them. “Unlike what the PDP critics are saying, what we know of this project is that residents of the area are to enjoy global fee, which is that you only pay these tolls only once a day, unlike other business people who throng the roads. So, the issue of rip off does not arise,” the youthful activist explained. While urging the PDP to cease fire in their continued propaganda against the project, Oloko-Oba wondered, “why have the same PDP chieftains never criticised the Federal Government on the concessioning of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to the Bi-Courtney company. when you look at their criticism from this angle, you see that something does not add up,” he said. The COSEG scribe said the PDP was merely criticising the project to score cheap political points ahead of the 2011 poll admonished all patriotic people of Lagos State to appreciate the developmental strides of the state government appeling that whatever grudge they had against the project should be subjected to meaningful dialogue. |
ate With the virtual endorsement of Lagos Governor Babatunde Fashola for a second term by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), a fresh battle for the office of deputy governor has kicked off in earnest. Sources checks revealed that the struggle for the slot has resulted in the emergence of no fewer than four groups scrambling to produce Fashola’s running mate in the 2011 general election. The battle is predicated on insinuations that the performance of the incumbent deputy governor, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan, has not been satisfactory to the leadership of the party. She was accused of mismanaging the school renovation project under her watch and is currently being probed by the state House of Assembly. Of the emerging four groups, We learnt that the camp of the governorship candidate of ACN in Osun State, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, known as The Mandate Group, is positioning the Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Muiz Banire, for the office. The group is said to be looking beyond 2011 and thus positioning the ex-University of Lagos lecturer to take over the mantle of the leadership of the state come 2015 after Fashola would have served out his tenure. However, this has prompted the emergence of the second group, a Christian body, which has vowed to vehemently resist the emergence of a Muslim/Muslim ticket. This group, according to a source, comprises some officials in the current government of Fashola who have begun to reach out to other Christian leaders outside the government to join forces with them in their determination to defeat the agenda for a Muslim/Muslim ticket. It was learnt that the move has gained much ground outside the state government to the extent that some notable pastors have been dragged into the fray. The Christian group, it was learnt, has argued that if it has opted to support a Muslim candidate for the office of the governor without reservations, it will only be fair for the leadership of ACN to compensate the Christian circle with the office of the deputy governor. But Muslim politicians sympathetic to Banire have argued that religion should not be introduced into Lagos politics as it has never been a factor in the history of the state. In the Second Republic, the governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, and his deputy, Alhaji Rafiu Jafojo, were both Muslims. The third group is said to be promoting the emergence of the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Ajoke Orelope-Adefulire, as Fashola’s running mate. The commissioner, who was also a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly during the truncated Third Republic, is claiming to be a Christian though born into a Muslim family. Adefulire is claiming to have been converted to Christianity following her marriage to a Christian. She is believed to be mobilising chiefs of Awori origin in the state to help her make a strong case for her candidature. The last group comprises some traditional rulers from Awori clan where the incumbent deputy governor, Sosan, hails from. An impeccable source told us last night that the monarchs have intensified efforts to ensure the retention of the deputy governor. The traditional rulers were said to have predicated their agitation on the slogan that “what is good for the goose is also good for the gander,” with argument that if the party has resolved to offer Fashola a return ticket, the only fair thing to do is to equally retain Sosan as his running mate at the next poll. To show the extent of the monarch’s commitment to the move for Sosan’s retention, they were said to have petitioned their senior colleague and the Oba of Lagos, Akiolu, to prevail on the party’s leadership to retain their subject as Fashola’s deputy. Abass Obesere Woos Fashola, Shuns Saheed Osupa Posted By On August 13, 2010 @ 10:23 am In Entertainment,Music,Nigerian Music | No Comments Following the festering crisis among the fuji musicians, the National Chairman of Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria (FUMAN), Abass Akande Obesere, has appealed to the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, to assist him in resolving it. https://pmnewsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Abass_Obesere.jpg •Obesere. Speaking with P.M.Etertainment, the newly installed Lagos Ambassador and Paramount King of Fuji Music, said that he has written a letter to Fashola to invite all fuji musicians to a meeting just like Alhaji Lateef Jakande did during the Barrister and Kolington face off. He said that his decision was borne out of the fact that most fuji musicians live in Lagos, saying, “I don’t want the crisis to degenerate to violence as this might disrupt peace in Lagos, making some undesirable elements to capitalise on it to cause crisis during the forthcoming electioneering campaigns.” PK1st as he is popularly called, said that his ambassadorial appointment has changed his focus about everything in life because people now look up to him to assist in maintaining peace in Lagos and its environs. To show his commitment to allow peace to reign in Lagos fuji circle, Obesere was reported to have walked out on controversial fuji musician Saheed Osupa, at the recording of a video at the Eko Reel Mix Studio recently. P.M.Etertainment learnt that when news got to him during the recording that Osupa, who mounted the stage as the opening act was singing abusive songs, he ordered his managers and band members out of the premises of Radio Lagos, saying he had warned Osupa against that. When Obesere was contacted he confirmed the story and simply said: “All I want is for peace to reign among fuji musicians in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.” |

Solid Waste Management Scheme The Lagos Waste management Authority (LAWMA), as parts of its efforts to strengthen the achievements of sanitation and environmental discipline in the state, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the government, the Clinton Foundation and the Konsadem Consortium to develop the first modern integrated solid waste project in Lagos. The project is a partnership among three credible brands to deliver an integrated solid waste management model for other communities across the world to emulate. The project is to be completed via Finance, Design, Build, Operate and Transfer (FDBOT) structure by the private sector under a 20 year concession agreement would lead to the development of a comprehensive project which includes closure, collection and utilization of landfill gas (LFG) the two existing dumpsites while incorporating a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) financing platform. Four years ago, the state gave an overview of what it intends to do and has been implementing it in stages, stressing that the state is now at a stage of institutionalizing best practices in landfill management and gas recovery and working to ensure that most of the processes of management is classified as Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). According to Governor Fashola, the present administration is not comfortable with the way the land fill sites are being managed, but is doing its best to raise the standard of what currently exists by building structures that would be comparable with any of such structure of similar facilities anywhere in the world. The first phase, the integrated solid waste management site is located in the Epe area of Lagos and will be designed to accept a maximum 900 tons of municipal waste daily. Clinton Foundation is delighted to partner with the progressive government of Lagos State on the integrated solid waste management project. The Clinton Foundation is very pleased with the expected outcome, which is the reduction of Carbon emission and a very positive contribution to global efforts to address the issue of Climate Change. The Foundation will continue to give all the required technical support to ensure that the project is successfully completed. |

Chxta: Though his state refused to honor him, Fashola did. He also gave his mom a million bucks. Fashola Unveils Sam Okwaraji https://i34.tinypic.com/161je6e.jpg Late Sam Okwaraji was a patriot. He loved Nigeria as much as he loved football. A foreign-based soccer star, Sam traveled home to help Nigeria defeat Angola in a World Cup qualifying match in Lagos. He made the opening of the game but could not see its end! Sam Okwaraji died of a heart-related medical problem. On 12 August, the Lagos State Governor unveiled a memorial garden for the late footballer. Known as a Rededicated Memorial Garden, this special space in memory of the late footballer of Eastern Nigeria origin was said to represent the commitment of the Fashola administration to respecting the selfless deeds of Nigerians, especially Lagosians. Speaking in the front area of the National Stadium in Surulere, Governor Fashola said that the reconstruction of the garden where a concrete bust of the late soccer star is located was part of activities designed to mark the 20th anniversary of his death. Mr Fashola was of the view that Sam Okwaraji died while rendering selfless service to Nigeria and that the late star deserves all the post-humous respect due to him. He described late Sam Okwaraji as a youngman who led his peers by example, saying that he was a shinning role model and a truly talented sportsman that was of good quality education. 'Literally, Sam was ready to die for his country and I believe he demonstrated that before he died and by the circumstances leading to his death', said the Lagos State helmsman. Present at the unveiling event along with top Lagos State Governmemt officials were some ex-national football team players such as Austin Eguavoen and Alloy Agu. Both men praised the effort of Governor Fashola at ensuring that the memory of Sam Okwaraji is revived in the public space, emphasizing that the gesture will serve to ginger people contribute selflessly to any legitimate course that they chose to embrace in the country. The event was brought to close with a novelty match that was watched by a spectrum of prominent Lagos citizens suchy as the Asoju Oba of Lagos, Chief Molade Okoya Thomas; the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Prince Ademola Adeniji Adele; and the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Environment, Mr. Sesan Olanrewaju. |

It's really a shame that we still have corrupt civil servants. Unlike the at the federal level, the state is obviously doing something about corrupt government officials. So far this year, they've fired well over 87 LASTMA officials for corruption. There should be zero tolerance for corruption within the civil service. This is part of what the US is battling with with the health care reforms. In our case in Lagos, if a woman living in Ikorodu once visited any government health center with headache in Ikorodu and weeks or years later in Ikeja with the same or any other complaints, the info is available to doctors and other health care delivery folks in Ikeja, they'll have the original and other complaints, history and physical, treatment rendered including prescribed medications. Taylor Aug 11, 2010 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Wednesday formally opened the Igbosere Magistrates' Court with a pledge that his administration would ensure that the constitutional provisions for securing the liberty of citizens are given the fullest expression in the State. Addressing a large gathering of both serving and retired Judges and Justices of the High and Supreme courts and other members of the Bar and Bench, members of the State Executive Council and Legislature, Traditional Rulers and top government functionaries as well as other stakeholders at the premises of the court, Governor Fashola also announced that the new court would flag off the first ever sitting of Magistrates on Saturdays to dispense justice in the State in accordance with the State's reformed Magistrates' Court Law. According to the Governor, who said the new Magistrates' Court Law was replacing the one that has been in use in the last 38 years, explained, however, that the Saturday sitting of Magistrates would be done "in a manner and in rotation to be administratively determined". "This will, hopefully, put an end to the practice where citizens are detained from Friday until Monday simply because there was no court to admit them on bail", the Governor said hinting that the Government would in future explore the possibility of overnight sitting "such that the liberty of the citizen is further secured". Giving a brief review of the State's Judicial reforms, Governor Fashola, who said the dream started in 1999, declared "The dream was shared by many of us who signed on to a common cause in pursuit of liberty, freedom and justice in a free society as championed by one man, my illustrious predecessor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and pursued with resoluteness by another, Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN)", adding that it started with a clear understanding of the need and purpose for the reform of the Judiciary if democracy was to survive. "The infrastructural, procedural and welfare reforms that have taken place at the High Court level of the Justice sector of Lagos State and the impact nationwide require no further repetition. That was the beginning of the revolution. As successors to that administration, it was clear to us that those achievements must never be thrown away. It was our welcome burden and immense privilege to build on them", the Governor said. He added, "We recognize that as Africa's fastest growing mega-city, law and order were critical pillars for the sustenance of democratic life and the magistracy was the most pivotal access point of contact for citizens with the justice system. This is the level of judicial system that deals with housing; especially the landlord and tenant matters. It also deals with road traffic offences and many violations that are not of a felonious nature, including sanitation and environmental offences and those everyday challenges that determine our human development index as a people". Praising the State's Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Olasupo Shasore for his commitment to the completion of the Court House and others across the State, Governor Fashola further disclosed that the new court, with 22 courtrooms and Magistrates' Chambers, was the first of a total of nine court houses at different advanced stages of completion across the State. The Governor described the courthouse as the largest purpose built court building in Nigeria saying in addition to being equipped with modern verbatim court reporting facilities aimed at relieving Magistrates of the effort of the obsolete system of recording proceedings in longhand, he has approved the engagement of 30 Verbatim Reporters to serve in already designated offices in the court building. "They will provide the valuable court records that will reduce time spent on litigation in the magistrates' Courts and the Judiciary at large", the Governor said, adding that with a variety of new legislations to respond to issues like climate change, environmental protection, noise pollution, public Health and safety, urban planning and building control, the new magistracy Law and increased courtroom capacities, the State is in a good position to take its rightful place in the global community as a City-State where law and order thrives and the rule of law is observed. Reviewing the history of Magistracy as an institution in Lagos, Governor Fashola, who said there were seven Chief Magistrates in the Lagos Colony between 1862 and 1905, paid glowing tributes to the celebrated jurists of the State who, according to him, "started their careers as Magistrates" adding that "the Magistracy gradually became a natural ground for the making of jurists of uncommon qualities". Such celebrated jurists, the Governor named included Hon. Sir Olumuyiwa Jibowu, Sir Adetokunbo Ademola and S.O, Lambo, among others, adding, "But amongst all these great jurists who started from the magistracy, there was undoubtedly a first amongst these equals. He was Mr. Justice John Idowu Conrad Taylor". He described the late Jurist who was appointed temporary magistrate in 1947 and a Judge of the High Court of Western Nigeria in 1956, as an upright, courageous and a brilliant judge pointing out that the new Igbosere Courthouse was dedicated to J.I.C. Taylor's memory "in recognition of his Spartan and undiminished service and contributions to the Lagos judiciary". In his welcome remarks earlier, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Olasupo Shasore (SAN), said the Court House, which he described as part and parcel of the Lagos judiciary, "is a demonstration of the commitment of the present administration to the reform of the State's Justice System". Pointing out that the new courthouse is for the good of the public, Shasore declared, "This administration will be remembered for its commitment to the reform of the Justice system in the State", adding that the court is for public order and the propagation of justice in the State. texazzpete:Still doesn't mean I should waste my time entertaining silly and mindless arguments. The article clearly articulated why the kids are in SA and what they are doing in SA. The kids themselves explained the importance of the trip and what they hope to gain and bring back to their constituencies. As usual for so many mouth runners, I bet you did not read the article, the standard practice is to just run mouth and criticize. lol @ fly in teachers? How dumb and silly can you be? These are the smartest and brightest kids in the state of Lagos, they are our future. Equating these bright and innocent kids with a criminal like Ibori clearly highlights your hate, stupidity, callousness and shady mentality. Like I said before, the kids are in SA, the state is fine, Lagosians are not crying, I'm happy for the kids, I'm happy for their proud parents and I'm happy for the people of the great state of Lagos state, I'm glad that our leaders are making the commitment and spending our money to give our kids the best education and opportunities in life and if you don't like it, kill yourself and spare us the nonsense caveman and backward talk. |
texazzpete:Why waste my time on redundancy? You are not making any sense and what you are suggesting is not only ridiculously s/tupid and counterproductive, it defeats the propose. |

texazzpete:I really don't have time for backward and shortsighted thinking today. |
texazzpete:And the best way to spend tax payers money is to fly in folks from SA, pay them, lodge and feed them? So it's OK to deny our kids the experience of traveling out to learn and see other cultures, but it's cool to fly in people from outside and give them the same opportunities to learn and see other cultures you just denied our kids, all with the same tax payers money? Are you making any sense at all? Try thinking forward instead of backward. What about killing 2 birds with one stone via our kids going over there, learning and at the same time expose them to a different culture, people, way of life and boost their global understanding and also return to share the wonderful and lifelong experience with their constituencies? Are youTry thinking forward instead of backward. Anyways, you should read and comprehend the article, it explained the propose/Reasons why the kids are in SA. |

Be Prepared To Deal With Challenges Of Leadership – Fashola Tells Children https://i35.tinypic.com/14jc1sh.jpg https://i33.tinypic.com/214ut0p.jpg RIP DAGRIN https://i33.tinypic.com/14v7os1.jpg https://i38.tinypic.com/r9ha9k.jpg Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Wednesday urged children in the State to pay attention to programmes and activities meant to prepare them to deal with the challenges of leadership. Addressing the hundreds of children who attended the End of Year Children’s Party hosted by the Governor and the First Lady, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, at the Lagos House Open Ground, Alausa, Mr. Fashola said one of the ways to do this is to listen to their teachers and parents as well as participating in all the school activities targeted at their development. Governor Fashola said the resuscitation of the Boy Scout, Girls Guide, Red Cross and other uniformed voluntary organizations and introduction of Climate Change Clubs in public schools are some of the State Government’s way of preparing the children and putting them in a better position to deal with the challenges the present leaders are facing. “I urge you to continue to participate in these programmes that are targeted at your development”, the Governor said adding that other such activities include the Spelling Bees Competition introduced by the wife of his immediate predecessor, Chief (Mrs.) Oluremi Tinubu and which has made it possible for one of the children to be Governor of the State for one day every year. He urged, “I hope that one of you very soon will come and share my office. We must say a big thank you to Mrs. Tinubu who started the Competition. We must also say a big thank you to the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) which has kept the Competition alive”. Expressing pleasure at the success of the reintroduction of the Schools Debate in public schools in the State, Governor Fashola said in 2010, the State Government also plans to introduce a new competition – the Quiz Competition to test how quickly the children can think and how well they remember things. “We are also bringing back sports to enable you exercise your bodies and become champions, to learn the spirit of competition; to learn also how to win and how to lose and that life is not a bed of roses because sometimes you win and sometimes you lose”, the Governor said. Governor Fashola also urged the children to thank the Local Government and Local Council chairmen as well as their parents and guardians who are in the employment of Government for their contributions in making life better for the children. “Your mummies and daddies have worked with us throughout the year to ensure that you are healthy, to immunize many of you, especially the young ones against polio. You must thank them because they are keeping you away from diseases”, the Governor said. He continued, “We have set for ourselves the task to make sure that those of you in public schools will not sit on the floor again in 2010; all your schools will have desks and chairs without exception”. Governor Fashola also thanked the children for their contributions in governance of the State through suggestions which they sometimes make directly through writings or indirectly through their parents’ e-mails. “I have responded to some of these writings telling me the condition of the areas where you live, about how much more work we also need to do as your parents. I thank you all. It continues to keep us on our toes, telling us what we need to do more preparing Lagos for the future, preparing Lagos for you”, the Governor said adding that Government does not take these responsibilities lightly. The Governor, however, urged the children, “You also have responsibilities to yourselves no matter how young you are. These responsibilities include listening to your parents. You must also listen to your teachers. When your parents are at work, it is your teachers that are your parents. You spend a lot of time with them; they look after you, teach you new things and prepare you for leadership”. Also present at the event were the Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Sosan, some members of COWLSO and other top Government functionaries. |
