I'm happy for igbo folks. abeg break guilder and pami make we celebrate. maybe this good gesture go alleviate their rage and disgruntledness a little bit, |
jason12345:Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. Martin Luther King, Jr. |
Mariory:Well said. Unfortunately,Nigerians are not wired to think that way, |
tarano:Some of you are just miserable sadists, nothing makes you happy, you complain about the good, the bad and everything in between. Do you not have anything better to do with your time? What difference does it make and why is adding the man's last name to his first name giving you so much headache and nightmares? You know you're free to name your village any how you want |
tarano:You are surely entitlement to your opinion, but you opinion not only sounds silly and pointless, it's absolutely redundant and nit picky. Should they have named Murtala Mohamed Airport just Mohamed Airport or should they have named Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport just Reagan Airport or Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airpor just Azikiwe Airport? Is Gani Fawehinmi an American and is America paying for for the park? And must you do follow follow with every thing under the sun including seeking permission and reference other countries just to name a freeking park after one of your own? What makes you think America doing it the right way and Lagos State is doing it the wrong way? I know, just because it's America right? Or just because their s/hi/t smells better than yours? You people come up with the most insane, petty, trivial and irrelevant arguments I swear. Who gives a freeking a/s/s what they do in all the places you mentioned? |
chosen04:Internally generated or federally allocated, it all ends up on your operational budget table, it's all you have to work with. The point here is, some states are richer than Lagos state and and unlike Lagos state they still have little or nothing to show for it. It amazes me how people like you mix up stupidity with ignorance and deception. Obviously, Lagos state is generating more revenue internally to make up for lower allocation from the FG, same allocation that allows states like cross rivers to post higher budgets than Lagos state regardless of Lagos states internally generated revenue. Shouldn't you be asking yourself what these other states are doing with their money and where all that money is going if you really give a s/h/i/t about your country and not just spewing hateful and ignorant rubbish about Lagos state. Shouldn't the FG be compensating the state of Lagos for taking care of 18 million people + from every corner of Nigeria? And where do you suggest Lagos state get the money to take care of 18 million people from including thousands calling the state home every single day? From the sky? I know it's a pastime for people like you to spew mindless rubbish on NL, but shut up or try making sense or deploy the remaining good side of your brain sometimes. |
chosen04:There are states in Nigeria with higher yearly budget and lower population. A good example is cross river. Lagos state porpulation = 18 million/418 billion naira budget Cross rivers population = 5 million/426 billion naira budget. Now, with higher budget and lower population and service demand, shouldn't cross rivers be doing what Lagos is doing x 5 and way better? Curb your ignorance and mindless rubbish, it's not always about money, it's about good leadership and vision, |
seanet03:Obviously, Fashola is a very unique individual/Nigerian. It's amazing looking at the caliber of people he's honoring with parks and statues. The fact that he looks beyond trivialities and tribal affiliations when honoring and appointing people is very refreshing and inspiring. He is def' the best Nigerian leader alive. tarano:What's the difference between Gani and Gani Fawehinmi and what difference does it make? Is building a park in his honor and naming it Gani or even Gani Fawehinmi not personification. And where is the sense and wisdom in honoring Gani or any soul dead or alive without personifying it to reflect the very person being honored? |
It's really nice that these Alausa guys are very thoughtful and really know how to honor real heroes. This is really a grand and befitting gesture. |
God Bless The Great State Of Lagos. Eko O Ni Baje Lai Lai, |

According to Governor Fashola who spoke at the Triangular Layby opposite Owena Motor Park, Ojota, "The State Government is trying to demonstrate to others that it will not forget its heroes in the belief that some new leaders will hopefully be inspired to rise up and continue from where he left off". Said he: "The task is not completed. There is sweat and toil ahead. Our persistence and patience will be severely tested, but we are irrevocably committed to pursue our dream of a brighter rewarding future". He urged all Nigerians to always give suggestions to leaders and ensure that they get involved in the process of governance, stressing that elected leaders are just like every other citizen. The Governor explained that: "Late Chief Gani's patriotism was not whimsical, but a devotion of a whole lifetime. It was an arduous devotion to a cause from which many have derailed or turned back. It is never easy to stand up for principles, especially when you stand alone". "Gani committed a lifetime of 40 years of the prime of his life to this arduous devotion. He used law, civil rights movements, the media and politics as his tools to liberate the people he cared so passionately about from ignorance, repression and poverty; until he succumbed to his own mortality", he added. The Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Muiz Banire in his address described late Chief Gani Fawehinmi as an hero who was frantically energetic and courageous while his contributions to the law practice apart from court appearances were legendary and enduring. He informed the gathering that taking over of the loop was not a tea party as it had to contend with miscreants and street urchins, adding that those who are familiar with the location would recall that it used to be a launch pad and hideout for criminals who terrorized motorists and commuters plying the Ojota axis In his solidarity message, Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who was represented by Dr Osagie Obayuwana commended Lagos State for honouring late Chief Fawehinmi just as Edo State has done, adding that every Nigerian needs to be guided by the examples set by Gani in confronting several issues. He added that now is the time for pro-democracy groups and activists to embrace the doctrine of engagements, saying the days of writing letters and protests should be done away with. Also speaking, human rights activist, Dr Joe Okei Odumakin said the token by the Lagos State Government was a token for all and sundry as the late Chief meant different things to different people. Dr Odumakin added that the greatest memorial that Nigerians can do to him is to live for the virtues he lived and died and ensure that everyone gets engaged in the governance process. Dr Odumakin also tasked Nigerians to do background check on those that they would vote for as leaders. The National Publicity Secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who also attended the event said late Chief Gani was a humanist who sacrificed his all for the today of the average Nigerian. He described the ceremony as a milestone in the history of the human rights family in Nigeria as the late Chief was one exemplary activist who stood on the side of the masses till his death. In his address, the National Chairman of the National Conscience Party and close ally of late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Mr Femi Falana thanked the Lagos State Government for celebrating a man of integrity like Chief Fawehinmi who stood and identified with the poor. While expressing the appreciation of the family, eldest son, Mr Mohammed Fawehinmi thanked the Governor of Lagos State for the honour done to the Fawehinmis, adding that Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) is the best Governor he has ever come across. He said with strategic location of the garden, Chief Gani Fawehinmi will live in the minds of the masses, adding that Lagos State Government has placed the family on the world map. The event was attended by many dignitaries including members of the State Executive Council, widow of late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Chief Mrs Ganiat Fawehinmi, children, members of the family and human rights activists. |

Ban On Lagos Okada Stays -Fashola | Print | Written by Kunle Oderemi, Lagos Saturday, 04 September 2010 Hopes by commercial motorcyclists that the Lagos state government might soon soft- pedal over the restriction of their operations in the Lagos metropolis dimmed on Friday, when the state governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, gave reasons for the action. He said the ban slammed on okada riders from plying some major highways was a resolve by his administration to start implementing all laws and regulations aimed at curbing road accidents. He spoke when a group of students from the state’s public schools, otherwise called Traffic Safety Ambassadors, visited him at the lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja. He explained that the decision informed some of the many things his administration was doing at present in the transportation and road safety sector. Decrying the needless loss of lives through motor accidents on the roads in the state, he stated, “We are here because we have a duty; we have a responsibility as a government and that responsibility includes the safety and security of lives. As a government, we have decided to stop talking and start acting. “We are only restricting their movement in the interest of their own lives and the safety of the public. It is in everybody’s interest that this should be done,” he stressed. Fashola commended operators for their support and cooperation, adding that “It is safety and security issue and everybody must get involved.” |
doyin13:That's why it's not always prudent to pay attention to these disgruntled sadists and loudmouths on NL. They are nothing but internet pests and nuisance. |
So terminating contracts for non performance and breaking terms of contract now means failure to bribe? These sadists, irrational and disgruntled elements sure know how to make me laugh. Eko o ni baje l'oju awon olote lai lai. Ti oju ko ba ti ehin igbeti, oju ko ni ti ilu eko lai lai, |
marcdunu:Most of the stuff on your list are local responsibilities that's got nothing to do with the FG and even if they are all FG responsibilities, how do you suggest they take care of them without your dead beat states paying their taxes? Pluck money from the sky? Pay up and stop making useless and irrational excuses. |
They really should not any Nigerian participate or have anything to do with the power sector. |
wales:lol, These clowns are just finding out the accusations are baseless and fictitious? I wonder why the evil face of Lagos people don't want to take their case to the courts? Could it be because the courts wont allow them a word till they come up with credible evidence to support their ridiculous allegations.? Obviously, the idiots are trying pull a fast one by going to the legislators. I even wonder why they are not taking their silly allegations, proof and smoking gun to the media for Lagosians to read and see. What a bunch of dishonest loonies, |
Fashola Expresses Shock Posted by admin on August 31, 2010 in Sport | 0 Comment By Jaiyeola Andrews EMEKA’S CALL TO GLORY The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) yesterday expressed shock and sadness at the sudden death of ace sports journalist, Mr Emeka Enechi. In a letter of condolence to the widow of Enechi, Mrs Uju Enechi, which he personally signed, the Governor said the death of Mr Enechi at this time becomes more painful in more ways than one, coming shortly after the passage of his aged father. Governor Fashola however noted that even amidst the grief engendered by the death of Emeka, the thought of his accomplishments and the impact he made in so short a period of life as a thoroughbred professional and a family man should be a source of consolation. He prayed to God Almighty to grant the departed’s soul sweet repose and imbue the widow and the entire sporting family the fortitude to bear the sad loss. Mr Emeka Enechi, until his death the Editor of SportsDay Newspaper, passed on, on Sunday in a hospital in Asaba, Delta State, following injuries sustained in a car crash penultimate week. He was a former Sports Editor of THISDAY and later to become variously, a Deputy Editor at Glitterati, one of the publications of the newspaper, and Deputy Editor, Sports, in the Sunday Newspaper. He has also led the Lagos State branch of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) as chairman until he handed over to the current executive about a year ago. |

Sarkin Hausawa Commends Fashola The Sarkin Hausawa in Lagos State, Alhaji Sani Kabir, has commended the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, for his foresight and rapid transformation of the state. “He has done well, everyone can see the evidence of the government’s performance. I commend him for his foresight and development of Lagos State,” Alhaji Kabir told P.M.NEWS yesterday during a call to our office. The Sarkin Hausawa allayed the fears of Lagosians that the ugly incident of the strike embarked upon by Hausa food stuff traders will reccur, saying the conflict had been resolved. “Lagos State government has reduced considerably the tax the traders pay on on their goods. I also like to thank the government on this positive step which has permanently resolved the crisis,” Alhaji Kabir said. He, however, appealed to Governor Fashola to consider the appointment of Arewa people for cabinet posts, especially now that there are vacancies with the exit of a commissioner and a senior special adviser. According to him, the request to include Arewa in government of Lagos State was made about 10 years ago, stressing that since the Igbo have slots in the Fashola administration, Hausas should not be left out. The Sarkin Hausawa said he was born in Lagos over 40 years ago and that his parents lived many years in Lagos and contributed their quota to the development of the state. Like the Yoruba, Ibos were considered for recognition in states like Kano, Kaduna and Sokoto, he therefore said Lagos State should not be an exception. He canvassed that the Hausa and other ethnic groups as well as foreigners should also be recognised in the state. Alhaji Sani Kabir argued that the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos made it imperative for government to recognise and integrate all the different nationalities into the government of the state. —Moyo Fabiyi |

He told the supporters not to relent in their efforts to mobilise more Lagosians into Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in their respective wards across the state to ensure a second term for the incumbent governor. “You have to go out and participate actively in mobilising everybody. You must be relevant in your respective wards to champion the course of TCT,” he counselled. The TCT chieftain highlighted the achievements of Governor Fashola amidst thunderous ovation from the crowd. ”The entire universe can attest to the fact that our governor is the best and the greatest achiever that deserves to be encouraged for another term,” he added.
