Religion / Re: Religion: The Oldest Scam Of All by Bacteriologist(m): 12:41pm On Oct 09, 2021
LordReed:

Why?

Religions do not share the same concepts. Now, generally you can say that religion contains the same things. But taking a closer view religions approach these things in very very different manners.

truthCoder:
All religions funnily share the same concepts.

All religions have the following concepts in common:

*A belief in the supernatural and the spiritual world.

True, but what the Muslim would term the spiritual world is completely different from the Christian spiritual world. You will never experience a trinity in the Islam spirit world, for example. As well as some of the spirtual concepts in Islam would be joked about in Christianity. You will find more differences as you begin to consider the spiritual words of many other religions.

truthCoder:

*A belief in the existence of a soul.

I might agree with this.

truthCoder:

*A collection of sacred writings or scriptures. .

Again true generally speaking, but the claims of the scriptures and the way the stories of the so-called sacred writings are written are very different in many different religions. Islam claims the Bible couldn't have been from Allah (a.k.a not sacred) and Christians claim likewise that the Quran could not have come from Yahweh.

Each religion believes its own book is the correct book and all the rest are made up. They may all have books, but that's not the point. The claims of the book are not the same in all religions. They contradict one another, therefore they literally cannot be the same.

truthCoder:

*Organized Institutions with designated leaders. .
Some less popular religions do not have an organised structure like spirituality, which is a word for many different personalised religions. Even some popular religions do not have a centralised authority, such as Hinduism and Buddhism.

truthCoder:

*Strong sense of community based on rituals and festivals. .

Most religions do encourage social festivals and rituals I would agree.

truthCoder:

*A requirement to pray to a deity..
Prayer is a common feature in most of the religions that I know of. But some religions do not make an obligation of it. Some religions do not even have a deity, such as Buddhism. So who can they be said to be praying to?

truthCoder:

*Rewards and Punishments.

I would agree with this.

truthCoder:

In summary, at religions are the same at the core. The implementation, culture and deployment is what makes them different.

Sharing some similar properties does not mean they are the same. Humans share all bodily features with dogs. But that is not to say humans and dogs are the same.
L
Now, broadly speaking you could say we are both mammals, but on closer scrutiny humans and dogs are obviously different. All religions share some features, however, are not the same, because they claim different things and their values differ greatly.

This is the reason why all religions cannot all be true. But they can all be false.

I have some respect for your music but this is a very stupid thing to say.

No amount of songs directed at an imaginary man behind the sky can cause economic prosperity and infrastructural development.

It's a shame that I have to explain this to adults in 2021.

How do you even justify serving a god that waits for people to sing its praises before stopping hundreds of innocent souls from getting kidnapped and dying from insecurity and hunger.

At worst, your god is a low self esteem egoistic monster that luckily doesn't exist.

At bestt, you're only promoting your business. More "people singing to turn Nigeria around" only means you get more shows and more $$.

I have never seen an atheist been possessed by a demon.

I have never seen a Christian get delivered of a Muslim jin.

Or a Muslim requiring deliverance from the Christian demons.

So far, it's Christians in church who 'fall under anointing,' and get demons cast out of them.

Muslims are the ones who rebuke jinns.

It seems like you only get the bad spirits of your own religion. So yeah, born again Christians are the ones who become demon possessed.

Of course, it's all bullshit. OP why do you subscribe to these nonsensical beliefs?

I thank god for the prosperity of the gospel. Churches keep springing up on every nook and cranny of the South.

In the North, Mosques are springing up and Islam continues to spread. allah is to be praised.

The gates of hell are not prevailing even though hundreds are getting killed daily, millions more go to bed hungry than ever, the future looks bleak.

But sure, let's cherrypick the good things and thank god/allah or whatever for the good stuff. Like being alive.

Because I bet 50% of Christians don't even know what you're talking about.

Most people are religious solely because of indoctrination and "group think."

Combine that with an ideology that frowns on questioning and making some research and all you have are people who have been told something is tru since they were born and they rarely don't even check if its true or verifying the authenticity until they die.

I mean, isn't it funny that most Christians don't even read their own Bible or know sh*t about their own religion?

It is always endtime for you guys. Smh

So far, everything that happens today (natural disasters and even climate change) have all happened before. It's like a sort of cycle that is only being sped up because of unprecedented and uncontrolled man's activites and of course the ease of the spread of information.

50 years ago, it would be almost impossible for a Nigerian to hear of a flooding that happened in Germany in few days, weeks or months.

But with the Internet, it's only a matter of hours. This rapid spread of information is why it looks like more disasters are happening. When it can be said that they are not.

Stop spreading FUD Christians. We know your religion thrives on fear. But some of us see through it.

The Harry Potter book as well contains some real life locations but we all agree it is fiction.

Your book may contain actual locations and objects, but that does not necessarily mean the stories and claims about the locations and objects are true.

The Bible is a book that has been edited, translated, re-edited and re-translated so many f*ckin times. Many of the biblical books were written decades after the events they talk about happened. Some books centuries after. As the evidence shows, no single eyewitness wrote the bible. It is a book filled with myths, contradictions and other sorts of superstitious nonsense. 1. Do you suspend sleeping at night until sufficient evidence is presented and guaranteeing that you will wake up the following morning?
2. Do you suspend getting out your bed, to go to work, until until sufficient evidence is presented and guaranteeing that every single thing you'll be doing will go well and have good success?

I'm not sure your analogy makes sense at all. I am not even sure you understand the meaning of evidence or activities where evidence would hold more weight than other activities.

Sleeping is a compulsive activity by nature. And so is going to work. If anything, sleeping actually increases my chance of waking up the next day, as sleeping is essential for good health and a lack of sleep can cause death.

And while going to work doesn't guarantee success it greatly increases the chances of being successful. I literally earn money from working which means I can survive.

Why would you compare these basic human needs to a belief in God? Religion is and always implicated in nearly every war that has been fought in history. Believing in god has often led to quite disastrous consequences for many people. Islam reduces women to property, Christianity requires people to take up modest rules that deprives its adherents of many pleasures of life. Many pastors have died as a result of fasting. Many other evangelists in norther Nigeria met early death because they fulfilled the biblical instruction to spread the gospel everywhere.

Why would you equate the evidence required to "believe" in sleeping and working to earn daily bread with a god belief that has the potential to cause quite unreversible changes and grave consequences in the minds and lives of those that believe them?

You need to sit and think long and hard and think about why you brought up such a silly analogy to serve as an excuse for believing in a really important thing without any evidence at all.

Scholars at the highest level use history and archeology to confirm historical claims.
That’s the standard. That is how all other historical and even scientific assumptions are confirmed. That suffices today for Biblical claims too. That is what scholars and skeptics ask for. Unless you are developing new criteria.

No scholar claimed the Bible was literally written by God. They said the Bible writers were inspired by God through divine revelations to write. And the writers wrote in different locations and at different times but had a central theme despite not collaborating in their write ups. The old manuscripts discovered by archeologists confirm that.

Again, the central message of the Bible is same from the editions.
Do you have other objections?

What is this central message that you speak about?

As far as I'm concerned, the Bible is one hell of a vague book that that be used to defend or attack anything, anything at all.

It seems to be the most confused and self-contradicting book I have ever set my eyes upon.

Refer to the above link for examples.

It would be interesting to know what central message you think this two/three-mouthed book is passing? So can you share?

The central message of the Christian Bible is same and consistent.
Those objections you made do not in any way counter the Bible claims. Editions still have same messages.

Historians and archeologists keep searching for data to corroborate Bible claims. That is what is happening. Unless you have other yardstick for confirming historical claims.

My point is that a confirmation of the locations and even perhaps characters of the Bible do nothing to justify that it came from god or that the book is non-fiction. Because fictional books have real locations too.

Obviously, the Bible was written by man and on top of that the book has undergone so much change in the hands of so many people it would not be wise to think it still has anything to do with a god, or the truth.

And of course, I have not begun to talk about the moral problems in the final versions that exist today.

Majority of us don't even go to church or mosque, but, that doesn't mean we should be attacking those who are going.

Do your thing and let others do their thing.

But, most of you people that do attack everything other believe in this world are the nuisance which covid Delta variant needs to wipe out from the surface of earth.

Since, non of y'all can't stop being a nuisance and mind your businessess.

Why is it not a problem when religious people preach their religious doctrines in public places like in markets, streets, public transport and pretty much everywhere else, threatening others who may not practices those doctrines with hell and all other sorts of scary ridiculous things in their holy book...

But apparently it's something that signals a problem that deserves death by a nasty disease when the minority try to respond in kind by commenting in online threads ??

That asides, are you advocating for a gag on freedom of speech? As far as I'm concerned in the religion section, atheists never wish death on Christians when they comment on atheists posts. Why? Because speaking is a victimless crime(if we can even call it a crime?). No one is physically getting harmed because of a post on a NL thread.

So why would it be something that deserved death from COVID because an atheist (or even someone else that's just critiquing) comments on a Christian thread? I thought Christianity was a "religion of love."

Or are you guys just being hypocrites like your Muslim brothers when they say "islam is the religion of peace...." hmmm

Lastly, given the fact that religion, including Christianity, is responsible for the loss of lives, abuse of children and all other sorts of humanitarian crimes.

It is right and, in fact, an obligation to criticise this folly, called religion, that has been fostered upon us by middle aged writers who mistakenly thought they were communicating with Gods.

Anybody who accept the concept of a god does it by faith and not by reason. Such person will have poor critical thinking capability and will commit fallacies at will when confronted with sound reasoning.

I mostly agree with that however, the thing is, many theists are confident that they accept the god claim based purely on evidence or reason. I mean, I once did think it was reasonable to believe in the Christian god a few years ago too.

Conversations like these helped me see what I was missing, so it doesn't hurt to try and engage others in such conversations as well.

Your argument is circular.

You are saying a god exists because we can see what the god (whom you are still trying to prove exists) created.

You have concluded that a god exists and you're then using what the god created as evidence for that god existing in the first place.

That is a flawed circular form of reasoning and is not how you would go about proving anything.

You have only restated what you believe, and not what would count as evidence.
