GlorifiedTunde:AT&T is a private company. Check your facts. What do you mean NITEL should serve as a backbone? What happens when other coys decide to build their own gateways and how does this help Nigeria as a whole? Govt has an excellent history of mismanagement of organizations like NITEL yet you want them to carry on. Well done. |
Despite the number of comments against privatization of NITEL here nobody has made a compelling case why NITEL should continue to be owned and run by the government. I think people here like to criticize just for the heck of it. Pasting the general lapses of privatization from some textbook doesn't help as it ignores the particular conditions surrounding this particular organization. We all know that NITEL since inception has been run by the government amidst a culture of waste and underperformance yet people here are saying the same government should continue. Personally I'm with the school of thought that agrees that government has no business in business, it should only concern itself with making the playing field fair for all private hands to operate while protecting the interest of citizens. Privatizing NITEL is an over due but welcome development. If done properly, it will increase the competition in the telecoms sector and offer Nigerians more options and at the same time help in unsaddling govt from unnecessary responsibilities. For those who keep saying that other countries don't privatize telcos, I have to ask; who owns Verizon, Orange, Rogers heck even British Telecoms? There are dozens of telcos around and they are largely private companies. One will hardly find a leading telco that is owned and run by a govt these days. |
asudan:How do you know? |
chamboy:LOL! Walmart has government shares? Abeg tell us which government. And how does this help your argument against privatization? |
GlorifiedTunde:It is the in thing today to talk down on every government initiative but wouldn't it be better if such talk is backed by some measure of reason? What has the CIA or MI6 got to do here? Are those organisations offering commercial telecommunication services to the citizens of their respective countries? If as you say that the present telcos are unable to meet the needs of the country wouldn't the right thing be to bring in more companies in the sector? Isn't the privatization of NITEL aimed at doing just that? Where is the sense in what you are saying? |
chamboy:Is there any need to get abusive? As to your question: Unites States of America . That's one "advanced" country where most of all its sectors are in private hands. |
It's a shame, the quality of discussions has truly plummeted on this forum. One hardly finds comments that are insightful or enlightening, even the criticism one sees here are hollow and pointless. Where have all the bright minds gone? ![]() |
chamboy:Are you trolling or what? How is NITEL a core goverment responsibilty? So you and your ilk want government to be saddled with unnecessary responsibities so that the that the history of mismanagement and wastage that has plagued this nation from the beginning continues? Any forward thinking person will agree that a leaner government is better than one bloated with activities that the private sector can handle efficiently. If this is truly the position of Buhari then many people will flee from him and his party since such a stance can only move the country back to the stone age era. All nations that we consider leading in today's world have all embraced privatization; this is the way to go. |
Nice. I saw these on 9gag too. |
Godfullsam:Are you making this statement from an informed position or are you following the common tradition of most NLanders in making baseless allegations? Why exactly is $252.25m too small for NITEL? |
Reporters who broke this story say that the N1 bears an uncanny resemblance to Apple's iPad Mini 2. Is Nokia now entering the KIRF business ? ![]() |
CuteDude53:Yeah specs wise it's impressive but the real attention grabber is the fact that it looks like the iPad mini 3. Nokia isn't known for this kind of brazen copying. |
detunj:It's a tablet, wise guy. |
lekinz:What are you on about? I don't have the energy to deal with this right now. Go and troll somewhere else. |
Is there a site where one can see in detail the businesses, products or services of the 1200 YouWin finalists? |
lekinz:Don't be silly. Microsoft bought over the phone making division of Nokia and they will continue with the Lumia phones and WP OS. |
Nokia won't be making phones anymore but they will be making tablets. The Finnish company just announced their latest product; the N1 tablet. (Source http://www.engadget.com/2014/11/18/nokia-n1-tablet-249/ ) |
There is no hacking of anything using this method. All this is is an alternative way to connect to a known WLAN. If the network is passworded this cmd method will not magically provide access. |
It seems the first port of call when people break out of an asylum is Nairaland. ![]() |
oyb:Yeah but how many numbers are you going to block? Those spam texts come from so many different numbers that it's almost impossible to keep track of them. |
You all should go to this link and sign the petition to put an end to the senseless spamming that these companies are subjecting us to. https://www.change.org/p/nigerian-gsm-operators-and-regulator-mtn-glo-airtel-and-nigerian-communication-commission-stop-harassing-your-network-users-with-unsolicited-sms-and-calls-even-at-odd-hours |
ITbomb:Are you joking or do you honestly not know that this is a hoax? |
abubello:+1000 Let the bigots and intolerant clowns push for this too. Ignorance is surely a disease |
tpia6:It's a book that explains how some things thrive under chaos, why randomness is not as bad we have been thinking about, and how we can begin to make use of the possibilities that it offers us... The fragile is that which breaks under the effect of stressors while the Antifragile - a concept hitherto ignored by most of us, are those things that get better, improve, under the effect of stressors. It is a brilliant book from a brilliant mind and even though I finished it sometime last year I revisit it every now and then. It's always beautiful to come across an original idea and this is certainly one. |
This is why not everyone is sane. Disgusting! |
Good job OP I have signed the petition. |
@Mods The word "were" should be corrected to "was". Amnesty International refers to one body not several bodies. |
mecusbosco:Who does this guy think he is telling this monkey tale to? Please provide the names of the companies that did that. @Topic The majority of people here will not appreciate the gravity of the matter because they are not the ones affected. Its far more easier to blame the entire north for the activities of BH, that way when human rights violations are reported they can be dismissed with little effort. Nigerians first have to collectively learn and advance to the stage where each individual's rights are respected before we will care. Right now we will keep playing the ostrich and somehow hope that new problems will not be created by this approach. |
Those unsolicited text messages are a pain. Everyday on my phones I get as many as 15 useless messages and I have to delete all of them as their presence alone is irritating. These people should be stopped! |
It's alarming how easily people drop inane comments here. Is there any hope for this country? Too many gullible people here. |
Is Half of A Yellow Sun really a Nollywood movie? Aside from the fact that the story is set in Nigeria and based on a book by a Nigerian what genuine claims can the Nigerian movie industry lay on the movie? |
