The statement said issues expected to be discussed at the conference included power, infrastructure, corruption, health, education and agriculture.
Sounds very much like a conference, not a celebration. What is wrong with our press men? At which kain party do people discuss "power, infrastructure, corruption, health, education and agriculture"? Na wa!

Yes, I firmly believe he is the best choice we have now; with the Atiku's, Saraki's and IBB's all lined up. kai, I'm obvious! God de! grin

naijamini:
However, I think you are right on this point - GJ is certainly not naive
. . .
It is not his political naivety that worries me, but whether he actually knows what it takes to correct what bedevils this nation.
Yes, naivety is the wrong thing to look for.

To me, the word "naive" is out of place in a "democracy" that had its birth little over a decade ago. We should really be searching for attributes like sincerity. We can largely guage to what degree each of the likely 2011 contestants falls on either side of sincerity; a little to the left or a little to the right or very far left etc.

Sincerity, courage and dollops of elbow grease are the only things needed to right the country. Those are the sorts of things we should be on the lookout for. We should be asking, "has Jonathan got them or not?" As you pointed out, naivety is the last thing we should be worried about.
Politics › Re: Three Signs That Goodluck Jonathan Is Politically Naive by Beaf: 2:31am On Jun 29, 2010
I find this topic to be extremely funny and unwise. In order to call someone naive, there must be a comparison. Who would the OP say that "politically seasoned" datum is? IBB, Tinubu or Atiku? Who?
We have a way of making up extraodinary scenario's in Nigeria.

For 36 of Nigeria's 49 year existence, we have been ruled by the brute dictat of military regimes, so where would political seasoning have come from?
Our democracy is barly 11 years old and we are all learning, so lets stop slating people (except for corruption or backwardness).
It is even worse that the OP has not even seen fit to give reason why his list of Jonathans actions show him to be "politically naive". Instead, what we have is a declaration from the mountain top.

Mr Fire:
1. He boasted that he never met the person he planned to appoint the INEC boss
How does this "demonstrate crass political inexperience?" shocked

Mr Fire:
2. He thanked the military for not taking over the government during the perilous time of Yar Adua's sickness.
In what way does this "demonstrate crass political inexperience?" shocked

Mr Fire:
3. He said his OWN party was afraid of Jega's appointment.
How does telling what from the outside, seems 100% like the truth and a major stumbling block to Nigeria's development "demonstrate crass political inexperience?" shocked

Mr Fire:
How far do you think this man can go with such crass naivety?
"Crass naivety" and he defeated a powerful cabal? shocked
Why don't you first of all prove that it is reasonable to claim that there are politically seasoned people in Nigeria whom you can use as a baseline to judge "political naivety"?

Nigeria summit underwhelms, stirs controversy at home
Mon Jun 28, 2010 5:06pm GMT
Joe Brock

LONDON (Reuters) - Nigeria's last-minute decision to scale down a massive delegation due at a business summit in London on Monday may have appeased some critics at home but it left foreign investors less than delighted.

President Goodluck Jonathan had been expected to lead dozens of ministers, state governors and government officials to the conference, where they were due to address issues from bank and power sector reforms to eradicating counterfeit drugs.

But Jonathan and most of the delegation pulled out amid criticism of profligacy over the planned trip, which would have come days after he returned from a G20 summit in Toronto.

"The president was in Canada and he was supposed to come to London on the 30th and meet the prime minister (David Cameron) on the 1st (of July), but that meeting was resolved in Canada so there was no need to come here," said Works and Housing Minister Sanusi Daggash, one of the few ministers to come.

Some investors who attended the event, billed as Nigeria's Golden Jubilee Summit to mark 50 years of independence from Britain, were unimpressed.

"It's a massive disappointment," said one European investment banker, who asked not to be named.

"They've got to realise that they're not the only boys on the block. This week I'll hear from Turkey, Indonesia all competing for money and it's only the ones who do the very best who win the prizes," he said.

Jonathan, who is widely expected to seek re-election in polls due by next April and is sensitive to public opinion, had been billed as the keynote speaker. Oil Minister Diezani Allison-Madueke had been due to speak on the outlook for Nigeria's mainstay oil and gas industry.

"It's pretty embarrassing for the Nigerians that no one has come," said an independent Middle Eastern investor.
However, the Nigeria Labour Congress described the plans to send such a large delegation to London as a "national disgrace".

Presidential adviser Barth Nnaji outlined plans to improve regulation of the domestic power sector while credit ratings agencies Standard & Poor's and Fitch gave their views on the outlook for the banking sector.

"Nigeria has to compete with other markets to source their capital. Legal certainty, policy certainty, communication is critical in attracting international capital," said Mark Young, Managing Director of Financial Institutions at Fitch.

One thing that strikes me, is that you are using the LIKE clause in your sql without any wildcards. Is there any reason why you aren't using " = " instead?
Programming › Re: Variable Undefine by Beaf: 6:42pm On Jun 28, 2010
ajaxphp7:
I want to thank beaf alot for the contribution. But what if the variable error is showing null
That would mean the variable has not been set. It would likely lead to issues with your database query result.

ajaxphp7:
PLEASE, BEAF WHAT DO U MEAN BY THE form variables are not returning null, otherwise don't even bother with the database
Take your sql statement below;
$query= "SELECT * FROM student WHERE matricno LIKE '$matricno' AND level LIKE '$level' AND semester LIKE '$semester'";
Now lets see what happens to it. . .

I have assumed that each student must have a matric number, semester, level and name. Therefore, if all your form variables are empty (""wink, then the translated query becomes;
SELECT * FROM student WHERE matricno LIKE '' AND level LIKE '' AND semester LIKE ''
Obviously, the above will not be useful in the context you are trying to use it in. It should return exactly zero results, in which case going to the database was a waste and unecessary.

The same applies to most other problems. In fact, you can avoid returning error messages in certain situations, say you were passing in a database table name into your sql (not adviced), for instance.

Learn about design patterns. Use you last penny to buy at least one decent text book and follow it religiously (looking up stuff here and there will likely confuse you).

Just build yourself up righteous coding stuff and you'll be very rudely shocked at your progress in as little as a years time. grin
Programming › Re: Variable Undefine by Beaf: 5:58pm On Jun 28, 2010
I suspect there might be a mispelling issue or some form fields might be outside of the <form></form> area.

For text fields and textareas it is actually more accurate to check for null values with empty(), rather than isset() I gave you earlier.
To eliminate issues with your fields returning empty even before yo call the databse, debug your fields like so, add the code below just above your databse code;

function errorMessage($elementName)
{
return "form variable, " . $elementName . " has not been set or is spelled wrongly
";
}

if(!empty($matricno))
{
echo $matricno;
}
else
{
echo errorMessage($matriano);
}
if(!empty($semester))
{
echo $semester;
}
else
{
echo errorMessage($semester);
}
if(!empty($level))
{
echo $level;
}
else
{
echo errorMessage($level);
}

Server.Execute("whatever.aspx") is your toy.

You need to remove any html that will be repeated. Server.Execute is overloaded, so you might need to look it up if you are going to pass objects. It is an extremly powerful method, e.g. you can "cheat" the ASP.NET pipeline and actually change HttpHandlers dynamically etc.

StringWriter stringWriter = new StringWriter()
Server.Execute("whatever.aspx", stringWriter) 'Note overload method signature is different from the first example above.
Response.Write(stringWriter.ToString())

You can also do Server.Execute(IHttpHandler) etc, etc, etc

Feranado Alonso: "We were running well, in third after a good start. Then the safety car came out, which wasn't too good for us. But Hamilton overtook the safety car, something I have never seen.

"We were a metre off each other, and he finished second and I finished ninth (he was speaking before being elevated him to eighth).

"This race was to finish second shocked. But here, when you do the normal thing, which is respecting the rules, you finish ninth, and the one who doesn't respect them finishes second."
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12474_6235605,00.html

Alonso is not talking about not being allowed to overtake the safety car above, or that he was impeded by Lewis (his original complaint to the FIA). He apparently saw the demerits and hollowness of maintaining that line and changed it to something else.
Truth is, Alonso has shown tremedous immaturity with his utterances at the last race. Take this one for example, it was to his race engineer who should have been studying Alonso's car telemetry, GPS and other important stuff to ensure that peak performance and the best strategies were being ecked;

Feranado Alonso: Get on to that Hamilton thing. It is the only thing you need to do all race.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/formulaone/article-1290087/Fernando-Alonso-calls-foul-treatment-Lewis-Hamilton-Valencia.html#ixzz0s9BGQXwk

That's a bit much! "Forget about our race and concentrate on Hamiltons"; thats why he originally came in 9th.
I surely hope the FIA brings severe sanctions on Alonso and Ferrari for bringing the sport to disrepute. There have already been the usual racist comments in the Spanish press about Lewis, even worse, there have been open words about FIA bias, especially because, like Lewis is; Charlie Whiting, the Race Director is an English man. We really do not need such rubbish in F1.
Sports › Re: Any F1 Buffs? by Beaf(op): 9:59pm On Jun 27, 2010
And when news of Alonso's anger was relayed to him, Hamilton said the Spaniard should stick to analysing his own performance.

"It's good to know his weak point, I guess," Hamilton, who spent a tumultuous season alongside Alonso as team-mates at McLaren, told BBC Sport.

"I just focus on my job, so maybe he should have done that."

Hamilton said he had acted instinctively when the safety car came out in the wake of Mark Webber's horrific crash.

"I thought I'd passed him as we went over the line so I didn't think anything was wrong," he said. "That's why I continued.

"It was much, much later in the race that I found out I had a penalty - I didn't even know what it was for. I haven't seen the data so I don't even know that I did [overtake the safety car]."

Ham slowed down AND THEN overtook. come on!
as for the other 9 cars waiting to be penalize, its for offences of overspeeding when the safety car was out, not the kind of offence that HAm did.

anyway ,you are all Ham lovers and probably will never see anything he does wrong.
Are you saying Alonso also wanted to overtake the safety car like Lewis and get penalised too? I really don't see how that would have helped his race.
In fact, if you consider the distance between Lewis and the safety car, it would have taken a miracle for Alonso to have followed through if Lewis hadn't hesitated.

Alonso just got it all totally wrong today, he very strangely had his mind on Lewis, instead of on the race! Why?!
As a racing driver, he should have been more worried about Alguesuari directly ahead (whose much slower car, he couldn't pass), as well as on general race tactics and damage limitation. Afterall, Button, who was in sixth and behind both Lewis and Alonso ended up third; Kobayashi, also showed how a thoroughbred racer without baggage can make the best out of a bad situation.

I believe Alonso's negative attitude was the reason the normally jovial Domenicali was so upset. In his jealousy, Alonso lost sight of the bigger picture and failed tremendously today. What makes it worse, is that Ferrari was showing so much promise for this weekend. embarassed

MRbrownJAY:
come on! thanks to Ham's move, it cost Alonso this race. he was lapping faster than anyone before he was caught just behind the safety car thanks to Ham. . . . . . . . . also, if Ham was given the penalty straight after (just like they normally should) then he wouldnt have come back in P3 but probably P20. all the time they wasted to investigate, gave him plenty of time to build enough gap. thats why Alonso was pi$$ed off and i can understand him.
but hey, thats the beauty of F1, lets see how it goes in Silverstone.
VAMOS ALONSO!
Hamilton overtaking the safety car isn't what made Alonso lose 9 places or get overtaken by Kobayashi. That is just strrrrrrrrrreeeeetttching it! grin
Overtaking the safety car surely doesn't impede anyone? shocked

Alonso is just a hate filled cry baby that can't get over a rookie trouncing him. Domenicali who is usually all smiley and bubbly, was too annoyed at the end of the race to give an interview to journalists; I guess he just realised that they have contracted seriously damaged goods; Alonso was more concerned with where Lewis was than he was with getting past Alguesuari (or other race tactics and necessities) and finally got shown how to get the job done by Kobayashi.

About the time wasted to penalise Lewis, there are 9 car awaiting sanction long after the race. That makes it quite easy to argue that Lewis in fact, got an unfair deal.
It is instructive to note that Alonso isn't in the least concerned about the 9 cars awaiting punishment (which could gift him a few places). Its just Lewis stretching his lead of the WDC that seems to be getting the green monster out of his guts. grin

Guys why do they weigh them and give them wrist watches at the end of every race?
Both driver and car are weighed at the end of the race, cos there's a minimum weight the combined weight of car and driver alone must meet, or be declared illegal and disqualified. The wristwatches are for promos and sponsors, they would add to the weight, so are only worn after weigh in.
