Politics › Re: Revealed: Obama, Ghana & Oil by Beaf: 11:44am On Jul 13, 2009
Why spoil a good topic with religious crap? This is politics section.

I always said it that one of the reasons Obama visited is theat Ghana recently discovered vast quantities of offshore oil.
Epiphany,

The exploitation and theft of Southern oil is criminal.  CNN has covered it, BBC has covered it. . . yet US government and Europeans have done nothing to bring about reform, although they keep hollering about human rights abuse in the Niger Delta.  It's all talk but no concrete action.  Instead they back the oil companies rights to operate commercially and protect against threats.  So then let us ask, where's Nigerian government's interest.

If we are going to talk about where the oil money has gone and how it is distributed then we need statistical and economic reports as well as budgetary records.  These are professional fields and the people who for many years generated these reports are not the Hausas. . . it was the Southerners.  The Northerner may be a ruling elite but the Southerner is equally a technocrat elite.  To say that for all of these years the Southerner has not evolved ways in which to outsmart the Northerner in a field where the Southerner holds the comparative advantage is beyond belief.

If I were at all involved in the mediation of this problem I would encourage both sides to first of all form regional think tanks led by professionals and academics.  I will keep politicians out of the mediation meetings and only meet with the egg heads.  The politicians channell their voice and opinion through the think tanks.
You think they will? Better learn to fight for yourself.

At last, level headed opinions.

@Negro_Ntns

[b]I would add Ethiopia to the sentiment you are trying to raise and I actually think they epitomise ‘Africa ideology’
if any such thing exist, more so than other African countries. However, I would place Nigeria at the very top because even if you overlook her population in terms of size and talent and dismiss its economic influence, Nigeria and Nigerians have consistently fought for Africa and stood up for Africans.

Africa needs countries that have the confidence to look out for one another not ones that appear to wish that others should fail. Nigeria belongs to the first category Ghana to the last.

You've forgotten "we are the world". Ethiopia is the single reason why an idiot like Bob Geldoff thinks he's now an authority on Africa.

This could get really nasty.

The sad part of this is that most 9ja's are ignorant of the Delta persons single mindedness. People are forgetting about Great Ogboru's coup against IBB were they had to import J5 vans to carry out the attack because Delta folk aren't well represented in the army. Yet they all but succeeded. For 24 hours certain states were excised from the country on condition that they apologised for misrule.

I don't doubt that MEND is ready for any eventuality. They have rejected amnesty.

We need seize this moment to collectively clamour for the long overdue national conference.

Nigeria has been ruled as no more than a piece of land that the strongest can seize. The methods of rulership and the laws employed are the same colonial laws used to exploit us. Last time I heard, there was an offence called "wandering".

We need a national conference to negotiate how our various groups and cultures can co-exist. Anything short of that only draws doomsday closer.

It's a backward way to negotiate interests.  Before Obama, has any one else talked about it?  . . . and if we never listened and acted on that drumbeat before, how do you expect that Obama's trumpet will make a difference in the outcomes?
Personally, I have always thought so. For example if you invent something in Nigeria, what happens? Anyone with that experience would know we lack structures and instituitions, where is our patent office and what do they do?

Its not new to Obama.

What about when Nigeria had the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) under IBB? It was also clear at that time that we had no structures talkless of adjusting them.

How do you envision this will play out?
There will be counter-retaliation. If this will force the govt to the negotiating table; its long overdue. There is no contract between state and citizen in Nigeria. It might well be a piece of land the people inhabit. There needs to be a contract - that is the basis of the instituitions Obama has been talking about.

back2back:
you are missed the point.

It was evil and wrong to enslave africans in that massive ways.

It was a trade that was supported by the WEST and their church for wealth creation!

It was this slave machinery that kicked started the economy.

African deserves apologies for those wrongs: It is to acknowledge the evil and not try to hide or sweep it under the carpet.

But I guess with people like you, it is clear why no progress.

Even JEWS received apologies for the evil of german people to them.
But Obama is black huh An apology from him would be an aberration.

Nigeria and South Africa have the strongest influence in Africa. Simply because they generate the most business. All across W. Africa the only soaps and drinks, even plastic bags come from Nigeria.

there is something that has been bothering me for so long in my heart and i want to share it with you guys, honestly why do we like women so much, take me for instance,i love to be faithfull to any woman i marry but i have discovered that there is thing btw my legs that always says no,i read in a book that it is in men nature,my question then is why?i dont understand it,i am being honest with myself here,
i have seen many men who hold important public postions who strugles with this problem inwardly,my question again is why?i am tempted to ask the women not to respond to this question cos i feel they will just dont understand but i am sure some will answer this question objectively,so my question again why are we men like this?i am afraid of getting married because of this very problem cos i wouldnt like to bring pain to my wife
Problem solved. You can't you be faithful if you are still marrying new wives.

@ Beaf, i choose to respond to you, personally because of the fact that you used a phrase of mine ('the shame that Africa has become') in a context which doesn't do me a lot of justice. Much as i am not obligated to defend myself, i will do so anyway, because i have the time on my hands!
Oh no! I just made up that phrase; if I was quoting you, I'd have put it the green quotation box and made clear who I was quoting. I think you've made a mistake. That was 100% coincidence.

On the issue of growing up with people making fun of your surname; I have one of those funny ones, believe me! grin I went through school primary, secondary and university with it; just like my siblings, just like my dad before me. I coped with it by turning it right back, not fighting; but finding something funny about those poking fun, that I could insist on and really laugh about. Being made fun off is part of growing up.

Again; I really wasn't quoting you, but thanks for sharing.

Sky Blue:
?? Exactly how much research have you done on the subject to arrive at such a conclusion that there is no evidence? Though some people like to berate it the irony is that the people and even scientists the world over have on many accounts used biblical records since it chronicles many events like the different accounts of slavery and rulerships the jews have been under, etc. Considering that there have been huge leaps in methods employed by archeologists and more is now known about ancient egypt, are there any archeological finds that disprove the account of the jews being under Egyptian slavery? smiley
We are digressing.

The strange thing is that the bible is the only source of the exodus story and like I said, archeological finds prove that Egypt occupied the area the Jews were supposed to have run off to. Pharaoh's name? . . .Not even provided.
Using the bible a source of historical information is only ok for religious purposes. It isn't a history book or a science book and will never be.

We should just solve the Delta problem.
War in such terrain is "anti-conventional", requiring 100% lateral thought which is absolutely lacking in the higher echelons of our governance and Military.
Anyways, Nigeria has no issues with defense of the Delta, MEND have shown they are up to the task (afterall they were born in the water and have water flowinging their veins). . . Ask JTF grin. Sort out Nigeria's federal status (National Conference) and give MEND and the people of the Delta the task of guarding our creeks and oceans.
Anyway, why do you say Jews were not enslaved by Egypytians?
There is no account (outside the Bible) of Jewish slavery in Egypt. The bible account is so flaky that the name of the Pharaoh is not given (hallmark of a fudge). Also, as you've stated; Egypt was in control of Palestine at the time. The brand spanking new land of milk and honey was Egyptian territory!

I admire your lateral thinking, you are right to point out the jumbling up of African history. The Arabs only ruled Egypt after 641AD, thats one point that usually gets overlooked (just like not a single Pharaoh has been found entombed in a pyramid).

The history of several Nigerian cultures is tied to Egypt; including parts of Edo, Urhobo, Yoruba and several others.

Keep it rolling.

Foreign Affairs › Re: Obama Visits Egypt. . . Obama Visits Africa. . . Is Egypt Not In Africa? by Beaf: 3:07am On Jul 12, 2009
Very good post. Tell it bro!!!

Egypt reigned over Palestine and into Assyria. There was nothing called Saudi Arabia then. Clashes between Egypt and Ottoman resulted in territorial losses. The Egyptians (Nubians - negroes like you and me) were the ones that enslaved the Jews. You have to wonder, if there were Jews in Europe and other lands and these other places were civilized, why did they not wage war against the Nubians to free the Jews? It's because there were only two civilizations competing over the region now called Middle East and neither one particularly cared for Jew and so Jew was the race that no one wanted to be or associate with back then. Kinda like the black race today. . .
I don't agree with this, there is no evidence that Jews were ever slaves in Egypt.

Almost all the statutes. . . the Kings and Priests statutes that had Nubian features (Negroid) have been modified and given new appearances to match a rewrite of history claiming Egypt as land of Arabs or Europeans.
The pics below should help. It's quite obvious that the people depicted are black grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
