yoruboid: We have a trade surplus and as long as the CBN has the dollars coming in, the Naira will continue to appreciate
Imagine what will happen when the refineries start to export and we don’t import a drop of petroleum products in Nigeria This is what both sides of the argument needed to note.. yes CBN is selling from reserves but as long as it keeps getting replenished at same volume, no issues. My addition is that the major reason why there has a been a higher supply is because the IOCs have been mandated to keep 50% of their sales for 3 months b4 repatriation. After 3 months, let's see what will happen. Long term solution is higher crude production, more exports and local production ! |

Lol. Thank u for thanking me.. u r such a cool kid. Ednut has already given a clear pathway of how big 4 can land u in the USA--through an MBA or through a CPA( for Canada).. Now, the fact that u dream about something doesn't mean u will enjoy it when u eventually have it. U were a teenager then, now u are fairly older- u can't just follow any cliche or ur childhood dreams mindlessly.. u need to evaluate what is really good for u. 2braithe: Since I graduated from secondary school, I have been dreaming of going abroad and I'd been doing research and contacting people living abroad. I was so frequent on travel section of NL that there's hardly any visa thread I hadn't encountered. So I know about these things you mentioned.
I will target big 4. But I'm open to how that can take me to US. Someone already mentioned NIW and I'm on it but I'll need other alternatives to compare too.
Thank you for taking time to respond Sir/Ma. |

Go to finance..specifically accounting.. if u can get a big 4 role... that's a very easy path abroad... but then why are u so desperate to be abroad? Hav u even done the pro vs con? The grass is always greener on the other side. 2braithe: Hello all. I am a fresh Accounting graduate awaiting NYSC and I need to make a life changing decision that I will not regret.
I plan to go into Finance, Investment Banking specifically. It resonates with my degree and I can prepare for an entry level role during NYSC.
I picked up Web development during my final year. I have a solid knowledge of HTML, CSS and basic JavaScript now.
I plan to go to the USA through the study route (Masters) and stay back legally.
For Finance: Within Nigeria, I can get an internship and later an entry level role in one of the numerous investment banking firms in Nigeria.
In USA, I'll need to do MBA. After, to get an employer to sponsor me for H1b visa is war because there are tons of capable citizens better than me. I was even told if I'm not in the STEM field, I should forget sponsorship from employers. Even if I get sponsorship, there are only 85k H1b slots per year, in 2023, about 483k people applied.😭
For Tech: Within Nigeria, I barely saw any internship opening. Remote internships in foreign companies are the worst. Within 5 hours, 1k people have applied. The job requirements alone will take me over a year to achieve. Same as normal junior job openings... Supply is more than demand.
In USA, I'll need to do Masters in Computer science(I can only work with a degree related to my field of occupation). Coming from an Accounting background, they may not pick me. If they pick me, I'll do a hell of advanced maths courses. I can't cope with Discrete mathematics, Linear algebra, Calculus I, Calculus II, etc. If I manage to cope and I get an employer to sponsor me for H1b visa, I'll still face the lottery of 85k slots and overwhelming applicants. I can't spend that money and come back to Nigeria again.
Please advise me, what should I do? I'm considering Canada but I don't know if she is better. |

You are the one with d flawed argument.. 99% of people travel abroad in order to have more money now and in the future!! The other reasons of organized life et al are just additions to them.. if it is guaranteed to them they will have same or less money, they won't migrate. Namaster: Listened to a few seconds of the video and I can tell she's an IDIIIOT with bad intentions.
First of all, 99% of the People who travel abroad do NOT do it to make money. So the premise of her NONSENSE argument is flawed.
The amount of money that is needed to complete the process of emigration in Nigeria is MIND-BOGGLING! The idea that it's ONLY poor people looking for money that choose to travel to UK, Europe, USA, Canada, etc is just plain DUMB!
It's even dumber when you consider the fact that a 40-year old man is UNLIKELY to receive external support to finance his plans.
People who travel do it to get AWAY from the economic quagmire, political instability, infrastructural collapse and the general LAWLESSNESS that is the hallmark of the Nigerian society.
Put simply, people travel out to get a better quality of life for themselves and their families.
Anyone who thinks people are fleeing Nigeria to make money is just being DELIBERATELY obtuse.
She's advocating for staying in Nigeria and "looking for money in dirty places". She doesn't realize that all the money in Nigeria would make no difference if you fall sick and the hospitals do NOT have ordinary X-ray machine to help with the diagnosis.
For those reading this:
If it enters your body to leave Nigeria and you can afford it, LEAVE! Even if you are 99 years old, LEAVE! |

The so called magic is simply asking IOCs to delay 50% of their remittance by 3 months!! Also, oil price rose in the last couple of weeks.
Defending of the naira simply means CBN supplying dollars to keep the rate at a particular price even if it means emptying the foreign reserves just to keep that rate. They can supply and not defend ie they don't supply enough to keep a particular rate. |

Of course our naira will be supported by cbn reserves cos 90% of our fx inflow is by crude which is mainly govt.. d IOCs repatriate most of theirs... so who else do u expect to supply $ to the market if not govt ? Now, by 2020, our production had really dropped and fx wasn't coming in as b4, so d supply of $ was from previous $ in d reserves and loans--that was d problem...Now with govt doing loan repayments and importing fuel they have nothing to supply d market hence d astronomical increase to N1,600 |

SUPERPACK: Even the new currency will still lose it's purchasing power. And should we go for dollar, the dollar will start losing its purchasing power in Nigeria too as we don't produce much, so more money chasing fewer goods.
America that has the dollars still back their economy with production, America as a nation has over 60 refineries and counting, produce weapons, leading in tech and Agric exports, educational tourism, etc.
So it's not about the currency, it is about the economy in general. Forgetting to add that while virtually ALL d export $ of a 220M nation with little local production is from 1.4mbpd of crude, America with population of 330M is producing 12mbpd of crude in addition to the many other things u have mentioned. @constancefriday, d problem is not the naira or usd or yuan or cowries, d problem is the amount of local production & export vs import demand!! |

Politics › Re: Nigeria Set To Join BRICS, May Start Trading Crude Oil In Naira by being(m): 11:46am On Mar 09, 2024 |
VanuatuWycombe: Our government that is considering joining BRICS knows more than you and I know. What Nigeria as committed to payments of Futures is pegged at a certain barrels of oil production per day which is lower than our total oil production. Our CBN and finance guys are not that dumb to sign away all our daily oil productions to a loan.
As oil production has increased, government will continently pay up. The only problem may be when oil daily production falls below the benchmark used on budgeting to that loan repayment. Government is not buying Dollar with Naira. It’s individuals that are buying Dollar with Naira. I'm not even talking about d hefty loans.. story for another day.. I'm saying govt actually earns naira by selling dollars..dollars earned from their share of crude production. So if we sell.oil in naira, instead of govt selling dollars to get naira, it will be India selling dollars to get naira to buy the crude.... it's exactly same effect.. nothing changes Naira or dollars or cowries is not d problem but like Helinus said, import demand value vs export value.. As import demand(plus foreign debt service & fx repatriation) goes above export(plus diaspora remittance & foreign loans), the rate goes up. Pure demand and supply Now, a sad part of the story is that most of what is imported are even basic survival needs not luxurious things that pple could.just easily cut out of their lives which means import demand will keep being high |
Politics › Re: Nigeria Set To Join BRICS, May Start Trading Crude Oil In Naira by being(m): 10:31am On Mar 09, 2024 |
VanuatuWycombe: No China will be looking for Naira from our banks and platforms where currencies are being traded. Don’t forget that China will pay Yuan to the seller of Naira. In the process, Naira will appreciate in value because some people are looking around to buy it. Assuming we manufacture more, we would gain more.
Any Yuan help by a Nigerian seller can be resold to any Nigerian who is looking for Yuan to his or her Chinese supplier or manufacturer. Do.u not realize that the govt already seeks to buy naira with the dollars they earned from selling crude? We will just be going around circles.. The eventual point is that d naira cost of every imported thing will still.be as high ad it currently is.. it's all about demand and supply not trade currency |

If Nigeria likes let it sell oil in cowries, it changes nothing aboutbthe economy. the fundamental issue is what is ur import demand value versus export value. For instance, u sell in naira, where will China get the naira they will use to buy d oil from? They will send goods to u.. the value of the goods they will send must be same as the value of the oil... Same thing happens whether d currency is $, pound or cowries... it is value for value!! U reduce usd demand and also reduce d supply at the same time... no effect |
