jmoore: It is textbook economics that will put Nigeria in trouble.
What exactly is the problem? Inflation.
There are many types of inflation. Which type of inflation is Nigeria facing? Cost push inflation. The removal of fuel subsidy and floating of naira have increased the cost of production which is causing the current inflation.
Can anyone tell me how increase in interest rate will reduce the price of petrol and diesel?
Money in circulation has nothing to do with the inflation we are facing. Pls help tell LadyExcellency o... The current high inflation is majorly caused by fx rate as we import a lot.. local food inflation is caused by reduced supply and high diesel cost... The inflation currently is not in anyway caused by excess money supply... So.why raise interest rates so high as to kill manufacturing & d rest of d real sector? What sort of militant economics is that ? |

You can't just throw the blame at the people... there is a reason why there is something called govt.. the people can't coordinate themselves.. the govt is the one to.coordinate the people... What has the govt done to create an enabling environmental for local production of agric items-- is it by allowing fulani herdsmen crises? We still don't have constant power that is necessary for manufacturing! If we have these things, local versions of basic imported items can be produced and govt can put hefty tariff on the imported versions to discourage them. |

Is there really subsidy to start with ? What u call subsidy due to high fx rate or high crude oil price is what the govt already made in revenue by exporting crude at same high oil price and selling dollars! It's basically in and out with d out part being d subsidy part. Subsidy exists accounting wise, but in real terms there is nothing like subsidy... |

My fear is Nigerian used car could give me issues after purchase Well... for tokunbo, that will be the 03-06 corolla or camry which is about 4m. Same differences as their 08-11counterparts.. but d 03-06 corolla is a serious hotbed for theft so security of it must not be joked with at all but it's very reliable. Matrix and pontiac vibe are also great. |

Thanks Pls I need your suggestions You didn't state if you don't mind Nigerian used. For a first car, I recommend the Toyota corolla or camry 08-11 Nigerian used. The corolla would have to be well secured cos of theft of parts but is more fuel economical while the camry consumes some 20% more fuel and is lower but is more roomy for a family. |
Politics › Re: Nigeria Cannot Feed Herself. Spent $15 Billion Importing Food in 2019 by being(m): 9:10am On Feb 08, 2024 |
It is why Microeconomics is different from macroeconomics! As a family, even a small company, u focus on few things but as a country, u can have several things u export and also other things u produce mainly for local production. Look at USA, hw many goods and services are they major exporters of? - countless. We should be an exporter of different agric items, we should export mineral resources and we certainly can target export of refined minerals and agric commodities!! mrvitalis: For the 1000th time APC import of a Nation is never a problem, lack of export is the key issue
It's foolish and primitive to want to produce most things you consum
Pick the few you can prosuce well better than most of the world
Focus on it produce them in excess export and use the earnings to import things you can't produce efficiently
Between a man who farms his own food, treat himself, sow his own clothes, repair his own stuffs
And a man who specialized in one thing say making cloths and buys the rest who would be richer?
It's just basic logic and basic macro economics |

SmartyPants: We're fortunate in that most of our food items are locally grown so people can still eat and survive. The pinch is felt more in terms of transport and luxuries. That's the thing- a good number of food items still have fx component... we still import frozen chicken, fish, flour, palm oil, raw sugar and rice. Even some of our beans comes from d country- Niger... Now, the poultry farms in the country make use of feeds that are mostly imported. Also, diesel is the fuel that trucks use to transport the locally grown foods from the North, farms to the markets.. Diesel in the North is upward N1,300 today |
