Foreign AffairsRe: Ghana GDP Growth Accelerates To 23% by beknown(m): 2:18pm On Jun 23, 2011
bigdoo:
No doubt Ghana would soon become a model for Africa as I had predicted since the country began oil exploration. They would soon make Nigeria look like nothing and it would take just a few years for them to accomplish that. I see them achieving vision 20-20-20 even though they have not been making any noise about it. And Ghanains are very passionate about their hatred for Nigerians. I have interacted with them outside Nigeria in foreign countries and I know fully well that they hate Nigerians like hell. I pity Nigerian when Ghana truly becomes the real "Giant of Africa", which I foresee to happen in very near future.

Shame to Nigeria and all our rulers both past and present for making us look like a joke in the eyes of the whole world. Other citizens from different developed and developing countries should be fighting to come to Nigeria to seek greener pastures if our leaders and rulers had used the nation's money for the development of the nation. Rawlings cleaned by eliminating all the corrupt elements in the country and created an atmosphere for a new beginning and prosperity for Ghana. Nigeria needs to do just that and we need such a change or revolution that would completely eliminate all the looters of our national treasury and using all their lootings to revamp our dead economy. Only such a move would bring about a complete change and turnaround in our country's fortune and put a smile on the face of the common man.

Nigeria likes to make too much noise and create so many organisations, legislation and projects all of them aimed at achieving nothing but to embezzle government money. One thing that I have heard too often that Nigeria has in abundance is "potential". Nigeria has got the potential to do this or that. Nigeria has got the potential to become this or that. When all those potentials that Nigeria has would be put to use becomes a question that has no answer. A BIG SHAME TO US AS A NATION.
Can GEJ remove all the looters? No.

Why did Nigerians vote GEJ knowing he cannot remove all the looters? Sentiment.

Nigerians and the economy are as good as the looters they vote into power.

Buhari or Ribadu would have given Nigerians a better deal. Since Nigerians chose GEJ, Nigerians must live with the choice for the next four years.
Foreign AffairsRe: Ghana GDP Growth Accelerates To 23% by beknown(m): 1:10pm On Jun 23, 2011
Syenite:
, but they just experienced an inflation rate of 23% even with a rise in GDP of 23%? Economists in the house please help us out with this. undecided
GDP is not the same as inflation. GDP can increase without increase or decrease in inflation. GDP and Inflation are two different things.

Gross domestic product (GDP) refers to the market value of all final goods and services produced within a country in a given period. It is often considered an indicator of a country's standard of living.

Ghana just got a 23% increase in the market value of its goods caused by Oil production output.
TravelRe: Turn Off The Light: The Daily Life Struggle Of Nigerians In London by beknown(m): 9:28am On Jun 23, 2011
@Poster,

Electricity, Gas and Water bills in the UK is not a matter of joke. However, switching off light when you really need it is not sensible.

People should learn to switch off light when it is not required.

A recent article in CastlesWeekly is interesting and will be useful for people who like to save on electricity:
http://www.castlesweekly.com/ShowArticle.aspx?ID=1575

Three bedroom family house in the UK pay an average of:
- £60 on electricity per month
- £60 on gas per month
- £40 on water per month

Ways to reduce high energy bills:
- Reduce wastage of water, gas and electricity
- Use energy saving light bulbs
- Shop around for cheaper energy suppliers
- Doubleglaze your windows and doors
- Insulate your loft to conserve heat

BusinessRe: Africa Is Mumu Inc: Us Universities(Harvard et al) buying up African lands by beknown(m): 11:22pm On Jun 13, 2011
Many Africans, including Nigerians, are ignorant of this land deals.

Many Nigerians are happy that land is currently worth millions of Naira in Lekki and Abuja. I have one simple question.

Who are really buying these lands worth millions of Naira in Abuja and Lagos?

This question may sound like I am insane but the reality is that some of these lands are already in the hands of colonial masters in the form of Asset and Investment.

And majority of Nigerians cannot afford to buy the lands anymore.

Watch out, Colonial masters are getting ready to make us systematic slaves all over again.

@Poster,

If other Nigerians reason like you we are in serious problem.

The guy may have been removed from his job for a legitimate reason. You seem to rely heavily on rumours for sound information.

If this guy is truly your friend, remember the saying: A friend in need is a friend indeed.

Your friend really need you now as he is experiencing his lowest position. He may let you know the details of his job if you bothered to listen and get close to him.

Is the area a dry land or waterlogged?

What would you provide to buyers after payment?

Can buyers begin to build now?

Is this an estate?

What estates or notable landmark are in the area?

What infrastructure (road, electricity, etc) is available now?
PoliticsRe: Jonathan Sign Anti Terrorism/money Laundering Bill!!!! by beknown(m): 8:56am On Jun 07, 2011
This is an excellent step in the right direction.

This means that it will be a criminal offence to carry huge cash in 'ghana-must-go' bags to different places without any genuine explanation.

The net is getting tighter against money laundering criminals.

However, I hope the law will not fail in implementation. As we all know, GEJ cannot implement the law himself. He need everybody in the country (police, lawyers, judges, Nigeria customs, etc etc) to make it work.

There is no need to take sides about this sad case of family relationship breakdown.

People should learn a lesson from this. Man and woman in a relationship must be ready to be considerate of each other. Harrassment can be physical and emotional. There is no benefit in causing any form of damage to the other.

People should not take sides. Instead, people should go home and learn from this experience of the Wigwe family.

After this type of experience reported in the Press, some people (man or woman) will change their own bad ways while others will not see the need to change.

I pray God to isolate GEJ from the bad influence of PDP and other people. Amen.

I pray God to provide the right people to support GEJ in his leadership. Amen.

I pray God to help remove bribery and corruption from people in Nigeria in their various working life. Amen.

PoliticsRe: Ajumobi Is An American, So Akala May Still Be Governor Of Oyo State by beknown(m): 1:02pm On May 20, 2011
I think many Nigerians are taking this dual nationality issue too far.

The people of Oyo State do not want Akala. Not even the court can impose Akala upon the people of Oyo state.

Akala should accept his fate and remove himself from Oyo politics. The people have spoken.

Ajumobi is a natural-born Nigerian and a naturalised American.

Ajumobi did not renounce his Nigerian citizenship at any time.

Therefore, Ajumobi is the governor-elect.

Lets not over do it, how are single moms true mothers?

I agree that single mothers need understanding and fair treatment from the rest of society but there really isn't anything heroic about their status.
I almost thought I was insane to have a similar reasoning.

What is this world turning into?
FamilyRe: A Salute To Single Mums - The Unsung Heroines by beknown(m): 7:16pm On May 10, 2011
I do not understand the blanket salute for every single mother. There are many factors to consider before saluting.

Who is the single mother?

A single mother who was violated through rape or similar circumstances could not have wished that on herself. To that violated woman, I salute you.

That's it.
FamilyRe: A Salute To Single Mums - The Unsung Heroines by beknown(m): 3:11pm On May 10, 2011
@Poster,

Single motherhood is not the norm. Circumstances cause single motherhood.

People must discourage single motherhood or single fatherhood whenever possible because both parents must take responsibility and show resilience in times of difficulty. Separation and divorce may not always be the right answer.

There are consequences in any decision we make as adults.

Life of togetherness and sharing (not selfishness) is better for all.

There is no doubt that difficult and challenging times will come.
PoliticsRe: Two Students Devise New Education System For Nigeria by beknown(m): 8:31am On May 06, 2011
@Poster,

This is a very good research project.

However, the theory is good but the reality of it in Nigeria is the problem.

The current education system in Nigeria is not the problem of Nigeria. The problem is a total lack of good leadership. Just imagine the state of government primary and secondary schools today in all states in Nigeria. One example is that some primary and secondary schools have no chairs. The schools need funding for facilities but none is provided. Also, the universities in Nigeria are crying for funding, yet none provided.

Consequently, the lack of funding means that there will be no free education for Nigerians at all levels. In the absence of free education at all levels as suggested means that the proposed unique education system is dead on arrival.

Currently, only the rich can afford expensive private schools and universities in Nigeria. Yet, ordinary Nigerians make up the greatest number of the poor and needy.

It is a pity.

Jaychand,

Your relationship with her will not be the same as you are not in Nigeria now. Your telephone calls are useful if you will be away for less than a week.

As you know, many Boss in Nigeria tend to take their female employees for a 'ride'. I will not be surprise if your supposed girl is enjoying the game now because she is thinking about not losing the job. She may have got the Oil and Gas job through the influence of the Boss. The Boss may or may not be serious with her for long term relationship, do not dwell on that.

Do not cry over spilt milk. Although she will come back after the game, you may not be interested then.

Move on with your life and avoid distant relationship.

Forget that your family and her own are beginning to get familiar. The fact remains that you are not married to her now.

@Poster,

Nairaland design is OK as it is. It does not need change to the colours.

From design point of view, if many graphics are used, it will introduce bandwidth problems to many people. A number of people in Nigeria with low bandwidth will not be able to access the site.

The current site uses mostly textual design and content. This is why the site is very easy to navigate and accessible to everyone, rich and poor.
PropertiesRe: Are You A Nigerian Living Abroad, Get A Reliable Agent For All Ur Property Need by beknown(m): 9:29am On Apr 24, 2011
@Staflex,

Good website and good idea.

Be aware that many Nigerians abroad have had many bad experiences from agents in Nigeria. Just imagine when they ran away from their own families and friends in Nigeria who were seeking to milk many of the guys/gals abroad of their hard earned cash.

A few words of advice:
- Be real.
- Be reasonable in your pricing.
- Be upfront with all your fees from the beginning.
- Aim to satisfy your customers or clients because they will advertise you widely.
- Avoid hidden agenda.

Good luck.
