Outstrip:@Outstrip, I totally support your thinking there. A large manufacturing facility requires full time electricity. Good hospitals need full time electricity. Street lights need full time electricity. |
The single option that will change Nigeria is Electricity. If Nigeria has full time electricity, many people abroad will return home for good. If many Nigerians abroad return home for good, they will create jobs through their private businesses. Personally, I will not seek government job in Nigeria unless the government want to consult me to help them. If there is electricity, many people will be employed and many new businesses will start. Therefore, automatically, there will be low crime and better security. People will be able to have good social life for themselves too. Many Nigerians abroad are qualified teachers and professionals. They can setup their own affordable private schools for everybody. Education will be better. Many Nigerians abroad are qualified medical and health professionals. They can setup good affordable private hospitals with excellent facilities. Some of them may even seek employment in government hospitals in Nigeria, that will be huge benefit for Nigeria. In fact, if there is full time electricity in Nigeria, many problems will be solved automatically. No reliable business can exist and expand using generators. I cannot imagine businesses in London, New York and Paris without full time electricity - Disaster! |
@Lawyer, I appreciate you. I know the effort you have been making in this forum alone. I have experienced other lawyers in Nigeria and I hold you in high esteem for your honesty and true professionalism. You cannot now adopt an unprofessional way of things simply because some people are being foolish. Your capability is better than that. My suggestion: 1. Publish your reasonable prices for your services (property search, drafting contract, C of O verification and validation, business registration, etc, etc, etc). 2. Price your services to attract good patronage (reasonable price). 3. Aim to deliver 100% on your services and promise to your clients. 4. Demand payment in advance for any of your services. 5. Issue receipts for payments received. 6. Show the service purchased on the payment receipt. 7. Draw a clear contract for every service you provide to protect all parties (you and your customer/client) in the transaction. |
Waow! I can see there are some very good women in the house. Keep it up, you know yourselves. |
Exactly the same in and out of Nairaland. |
Nairalanders, This is to alert all applicants aiming to work for INEC. Nigeria as a democratic nation depends on your integrity in doing your job correctly. The major part of that responsibility is to shun corruption by all means. Corrupt INEC officials may enjoy temporary corruption money but the future of every Nigerian is destroyed, including children yet unborn. Corruption has kept Nigerians poor for too long. Let us help the country break out of this poverty that has kept us low and constantly in a developing state. Apply for INEC jobs with good conscience and with the mind to help yourself and your country. |
@kimbaby, Let me summarise all the good views expressed by many people here: 1. In giving 100% attention to your new baby, remember you have a husband who needs love too 2. Make yourself look excellent for your husband - sexy, neat, smart, friendly, etc 3. Get a job to help finance your home 4. Look for a day care for the baby 5. Enjoy life with your husband 6. Share a time of good discussion with your husband - it's good to talk |
Read more about Donald Duke here: http://www.africa-ata.org/ng_duke.htm Facts: - Tinapa Business Resort - Obudu Resort and cable car tour - Cleanliness of Calabar is best in Nigeria - Pineapple production |
Fellow Nigerians, Let us stop kidding ourselves about the potential leadership material in Nigeria. There are many worthy Nigerians who are capable of leading Nigeria. Donald Duke is one excellent example because he has been tried and trusted. Many former governors still have their cases in EFCC but not Donald Duke. Nigerians, like you and me, must say NO to the principle of SELECTION adopted by the PDP. Let the youths of today in Nigeria say NO to poverty and demand a democratically elected government. Unless Nigeria has a democracy without blemish, our suffering will not stop. Nigerian people must aim to defend their right to vote in the next election in 2011. The Nigerian people must aim to put an end to ballot box thieves and malpractices. Technology is a very good tool for evidence gathering to ensure a credible election in 2011. Every youth must aim to begin preparation for monitoring of the election in Nigeria to ensure a free and fair election. The polling stations should contain video cameras and photgraphers. Youths must be ready to take the lead in their locality to ensure the mandate of the people is not stolen again. If the youths of the country are not ready to do anything, they should be ready to accept bad result. The elderly in Nigeria should retire and go to their home: - Buhari was born 1942 - IBB was born in 1941 - Obasanjo was born in 1937 - Shehu Shagari was born in 1925 - Abdulsalami Abubakar was born in 1942 and many others in the same age group |
@Lawyer, It is not just the property lawyer in you, it is the sincerity in you that is trying to help. You gave the best advice. At least, he is your friend. A friend in need is a friend indeed. You provided him with costly advice in his time of need, that's what friends are for. It may not surprise you that many other people pay heavily for the same type of advice. Any person who fail to plan for the future could meet a big shock, the future could throw up anything. You were only trying to help your friend to apply some shock-absorber against any potential mishap and the unexpected. Who knows tomorrow? Nobody. |
Jonathan then removed the mask on his face not knowinghis attackers were still on his trail eager to pounce. |
"Help! Help! Help!" Jonathan was not sure whether or notto stop to catch his breath as he escaped swiftly. |
badboym:The BHC refuse some people student visas because they have insufficient fund for their planned trip. Sometimes, the BHC can be wrong. This is why there is an appeal process. If you are confident that the reason for refusal is not fair on you, you can challenge the refusal through appeal. Many people are scared of BHC when they are refused visa. |
What is wrong with a brother and sister helping each other to quit poverty? I think the authorities (BHC and Nigerian) are making a mountain out of a mole hill. In the current day, corruption has taken over Nigeria and it is only the rich who can afford a visa to exit Nigeria. The BHC only give visa to the rich. The poor have no choice but to endure the trouble of suffering and poverty. The FG should eradicate corruption in high places to provide opportunity for the poor at home. |
It will not happen suddenly. You ignored all the signs when you were boyfriend and girlfriend. Before you married her, you knew her enough. If you did not know her enough, that is your mistake. |
FBS:I totally agree with FBS. However, remember that marriage is not for kids. If you are considering marriage at less than 25, make sure you have enough money to carry you, your wife and child oh. Better job is not enough, you need some savings as shock-absorber and bigger accommodation. |
Meldrick:Its like you know something we don't know. Yahoo yahoo is Nigeria thing, not just Benin boys. Let's not point fingers at anybody unless we have valid proof. |
For some people who could not play the video in the article above, see the attached photograph |
I think one of the scammer in the BBC story is really a Ghanaian in Spain. Read the story here and play the video: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8517243.stm |
Nairalanders, Is the President able to identify people? Can he remember his past? Does he recognise his wife? Has he lost memory? Please read the linked article from California: http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/view/141551 |
While many good people are seeking goodness for Nigeria, many bad people are seeking bad for the country. Why are some people in Nigeria this bad? |
Why are our elders in Nigeria against the young generation? Imagine an old man being planned for VP. We all know what happened about Yar'Adua. In the beginning, Yar'Adua was a sick man. Why did we get a sick man as president? Greed and selfishness. Now, TY Danjuma is being paraded as VP. He is a retired army general. Why are people wanting him back? Greed and selfishness. We need the young generation to save Nigeria. The young generation will surely do better. Leadership elders in Nigeria are greedy and selfish. |
, Now the big question is what is wrong with this process?,
1. The process is unregulated leading to possible abuse and cowboy operations. 2. Selfish and fraudulent gains are the motivation for some people. 3. There is no simple statutory protection for customers. 4. The process look simple but people can make it complex with sub-standard customer service. |
@Kayode Gid, It appears you have had an encounter with pystar in the process of your business. Pystar started this forum about you. Obviously, he/she is not happy. I think you need to sort out the matter with pystar. He/She maybe one of your unhappy customers. Try to be open in dealing with your customers because that will help you to get repeat business, and even give you new customers through personal recommendation. I totally support seal777 in his message above ^^^^^. |
Even the UK was forced to accept polygamous people into their country. Read more here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/1577395/Multiple-wives-will-mean-multiple-benefits.html |
angel101:@angel101, You are talking from the point of view of the modern times only. As you may know, polygamy was largely practised in Nigeria without any problem. That is still the case in some families and in many other African countries. The recent wedding of South African (SA) President was well reported - Mr Zuma married his third wife in a ceremony in SA. The SA law supports it. Read more about the wedding here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8434865.stm The concept of 'one man, one wife' came with the colonial masters. Even then, it was not widely accepted by our past parents and leaders. It is no surprise that we are having differing opinions now. Bible scholars will quickly refer to Solomon as a man who pleased God and he had many wives and concubines. Even the Nigerian law still recognise polygamous relationships. |
r231:@r231, It is possible to apply the law in Nigeria. The problem is that many people choose to be scared. A true man should not be caught up in fear. Read about the case of Miss Uzoma Okere v The Naval Ratings Officer and their Boss: http://www.nigeriancuriosity.com/2010/01/uzoma-okere-won-n100-mn-video.html |
Murat:@Murat, No matter how intimidating the immigration authorities are in Nigeria, you have a responsibility to insist on your right. This is why your story sounds unbelievable. You do not seem to be concerned in anyway that you were not allowed to travel for your studies. If you truely believe the visa and passport are not fake, you must go to the Head of Immigration at the airport. If he/she fails to listen to your complaint, take his/her full name and meet a local lawyer. The lawyer need to draft a strong letter to the head of immigration. The immigration need to pay you for your loss and inconvenience. The law in Nigeria is very potent in this area but if you shy away from picking a fight, you will not be doing yourself a favour. Your inaction will give the immigration the power to do it to other people. If you comeback to this post with information that you cannot afford a lawyer, that will be understandable and help will come. For now, you have a responsibility to fight for your right so that your credibility in Nairaland will be good. |
@Kayode Gid, It is very important that you read the following link in Nairaland: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-397741.0.html |
chaircover:@chaircover, I agree with your points. In the scenario you painted, we could not categorically say that marriage in the western world is better than in African or vice versa. The society need to change for the better without favouring a particular gender. And the genders must not expect to be favoured in any circumstance. That will create a fairer society. |
@Poster, I beg to disagree with you. Marriage in Africa is not against women. However, I cannot make you or anyone change their own opinion on this matter. If you really want a candid meaning of the word 'marriage', you have to return to the Bible because God specifically instituted it. This is why it is not for kids. If you look closely at marriages in the western world, you will realise that the marriage concept as God truely destined it does not exist anymore. I think this topic points more towards women liberation. Unfortunately, women liberation is not helping the world, instead, it is destroying the family and the very backbone of society. People who think marriage in Africa is bad should be careful when adopting and accepting the alternative. |
Many people here think Nigeria is a very good country compared to Somalia and Yemen. Yet, in our own eyes many people in Nigeria are suffering and scavenging from waste to get their daily bread. In Nigeria, some people are suffering hunger and some cannot afford to even go to school. Those who think these people arrested are mad should think again. This is the evidence that Nigeria is a country where our supposed leaders have turn against us. Our leaders send their own children abroad for studies and fail to develop our local schools. There are no decent medical care in Nigeria and our leaders go abroad for their own medical treatment. Who suffers? Ordinary people cannot afford basic accommodation in Nigeria, yet our leaders have mansions everywhere in the whole world. Who suffers? The evidence of financial mismanagement is everywhere from banks to political position. Who suffers? Of course, the poor people in the grassroot are suffering terribly. If you see the people arrested, you will find that they are the poor and forgotten people of Nigeria. Shame, shame and shame on our leaders. |
