yellowpawpaw: I hate lagos with passion!
Will prefer to stay in ibadan and the neboring cities than lagos.
The pple r very harsh, public transport is a nightmare, everybody is always ready to shout any minute.
Too much stress.
U hardly get fresh (I mean fresh fruits) in Lagsidi. C the bananas, they r just not like the bananas I used to know.
Agberos everywhere.
Infact, I still don't know how pple manage everyday for that city.
The only hangout places r shoprites and that useless barbeach(one corner is brothel huts), another corner for cele pple.
No where to take kids to.
A city where one will prefer to leave his car in his house and enter public transport.
Overhyped city.
Madam, Haba... na my state you take mouth wash down like this... Lagos is not as bad as people think. One good thing about Lagos is that there is room for everybody. The upper class, middle, lower class and the classless.

Meanwhile all the fresh pepper, tomatoes, plantain etc from villages in other states must surely get to Lagos or else na una go eat your thing.... grin grin

Elxandre: Yeah, I understand all these, but something just seems to be wrong. No matter how i try to bring myself to like the school, I just cant.
I just keep getting this hunch that this attending NOUN wont end well!
Its crazy really..It looks like the simplest decision to make, but it baffles me how i cant just do it..
I'm quite strong hearted and overcome even difficult stuff in maybe 3 weeks, but I'm shocked i could be floored for 10 months.. embarassed
If your real interest is in writing JAMB again, I don't think you should have a problem making a good score. Devote time to chemistry, and make up for it in Physics and Maths.
However, I don't think you have to re-write JAMB. You just have to be more positive with NOUN to make something out of nothing. I thought NOUN's fees will be same with the Ghana school, so I was wondering why the change.
As earlier noted, write computer certifications to make add to whatever you get from NOUN. Try to rediscover the passion within you.

Challenges of life are meant to bring out the gold in us. Gold cannot be appreciated except it passes through fire.

You are the first man I know who admits to watching it. . . .

Oga makes such a big fuss about it " Its rubbish" " they cant act" bla bla bla lol . . yet he pays the Nollywood and AIT subscription without complaint. He is a "closet" nollywood watcher grin grin grin
Anybody with a woman at home must either willingly or forcefully watch nollywood movies. My wife makes me watch once in a while. Although I used to watch mainframe movies and strictly comedy.

chaircover: . . another case of crying in jeep syndrome.

I have a question . . . .what if the CO too beats his wife? Will he be able to dish out an appropriate sanction?

It is well.
As you earlier noted, most of their wives are full housewives. For the educated wives, the officers are limited in their abuse. I lived in the barracks before (3 armoured division, Jos), I know some of these rules.
If the CO abuses his wife, she will report to the GOC of the division. and if it is the GOC, the Chief of Army Staff takes charge of the case.
Family › Re: For Abused Wives, Girlfriends & Men!!! by bellong: 11:52am On Oct 19, 2013
chaircover: I am from a military background and I know that they beat their wives wella. I remember my mum begging me not to ever go out with or marry a soldier and no officer no matter how young, handsome, ranked were you was allowed anywhere near our house back in the day.

I think the problem stems from many of them drinking in their officers messes and then get home drunk and beat up their wives.

Many of them also for some bizarre reason dont marry educated women and many are housewives, maybe because they have to up and follow their husbands on postings all over the country so they dont work leaving so many openings for them to get abused by her more eloquent and educated husband.
I am not denying that military men beat their wives. What I am saying is that most of them keep quiet over the issue and never reported to higher authorities for appropriate sanctions.
She married a man she loved and had kid of about 7 for him. He was in the airforce and they stayed at the barracks in Ikeja back in the days.

Over 4 years ago, her son-in-law bought something for her; I can't really remember bought it was quite expensive. This man had to pick on that because she had attended a function the previous day and came back in the morning. A quarrel ensued and he beat her and left her on ground thinking she fainted or just pretending.

Someone had come in to find her there lifeless; She Died!

That was the end of my adorable aunt sad sad sad.
If he was still in the Airforce at the time he was battering your aunt, she must have indulged him. The military does not take lightly spousal abuse. If she had reported to higher authority, he would have been dealt with severely. One of the reasons why wives of military personnel do not report their abusive husbands is because the husband's rank will be demoted by a step among other punishments. These women also enjoy the influence of their husbands' rank, so they prefer suffering in secret than reporting the husbands.

It is a painful thing. Sorry about your aunt.
Family › Re: For Abused Wives, Girlfriends & Men!!! by bellong: 11:08am On Oct 19, 2013
The funny and unfortunate thing about some women in abusive relationships is that they see nothing wrong in the abuse. They will tell you that it is his way of expressing his love. He wouldn't do that if he doesn't love her bla bla bla. They will even tell you that they love their abusive boyfriends too much to leave him and he promised to change.

A relative of mine was once in such. The guy was/is well to do and I was convinced within me that this girl was bent on going with the guy because of his money. The guy is younger than I am and at the time was still struggling to find my feet in life. The day I met the guy, I knew he wasn't right and I tried my all to dissuade this girl from marrying him. At a point, I was termed "person wey his own don spoil dey look for company". I kept my peace when I discovered I was becoming an enemy of progress according to them.

It is painful that today, after two children, she is back to her parent's house with the kids. The guy doesn't even care about the children. After battering and sending her packing, he is now on to the next victim.

There is little people can do to help those in abusive relationships. The decision lies with them to sync their brain and heart in saving their future from destruction.
Family › Re: Do You Lock Your Masters Bedroom? by bellong: 9:28am On Oct 19, 2013
kofsy: The husband knows that his brother enters the room. He just has this non-challant attitude, like there is nothing to hide. His brother can know everything.
When next the BIL enters their in their absence, she should lock the door the following day when she is going out. That is if she leaves after the husband, she can put a spare key in the husband's bag for him to open when he returns.

The action will initiate a further discussion on the way forward. She can do this if the husband is not the violent type.
Family › Re: Do You Lock Your Masters Bedroom? by bellong: 9:01am On Oct 19, 2013
This is for her husband to resolve. She should be able to discuss this issue thoroughly with her husband expressing her unhappiness with theBIL's attitude.

If she can get evidence that the guy enters their room in their absence, she can use it as one of her points. In all, her husband alone is the key to resolving it. Her husband should also be able to draw boundaries for his brother about the way he carries himself in the house. They all can live in peace and harmony when boundaries are not crossed

Woged2005: I stopped doing biz with friends/ relatives back home after I read very horrible experiences of people on Nairaland often resulting in family feuds and even enmity - inflating/manipulating prices twice the cost. But can't someone abroad have a trusted, honest, good friend back home? why is it always one-sided?
There are good and trusted friends at home. It is left for you to identify the type of friends you keep. Those your friends had always been like that, its not because you are abroad that they changed. A leopard does not change her skin... Get a better company and people with positive attitude to life.
Family › Re: "INTRODUCTION" Can It Be Excluded? by bellong: 7:45pm On Oct 18, 2013
Ideally introduction, as the name implies means introducing the two families to each other. Getting to know more people from both families. The ceremony depends on the participating family. It shouldn't be something thousands of naira are wasted.

passionate88: Even if she is a counsellor, she shouldn't talk to the husband.
Maybe I misread her initial post, thought it was an agreed thing. The husband is in the know of his wife seeing a counsellor. If that is the case, its not a big deal.
Even if it is not, it is not every man you can't approach. I believe she knows the man to be approachable to take such decision.

yellowpawpaw: Pls, don't speak to her husband. U might complicate things for her. Its good to work from the outside when dealing with abused r/ship.

If not for God, I swear that woman needs a lover!
That will quickly bring her back to reality.
Abuse is very very deep.
U can contact her pple(guys) let them handle it. She don't hv brothers and sis dem?
From her post, I guess she is a counsellor. So she is doing her professional work, she can speak with the husband.

He that cannot give when he has little, can never give when he has in abundance. Stinginess is a reflection of selfish and me only syndrome attitude.

The stinginess of people should not stop you from helping those in need. Remembering that whatever help you do, it is done with the mind of not expecting a return favour.
Meanwhile, you need to reconsider who your friends are if your friend cannot help you for free.

This is a very wrong attitude you are displaying here. If someone does not agree with your opinion, it is not enough to insult the person. You have taken it too far, grow up and act above petty insults.

YOMITEWIN: @bellong my uncle use to b very close but ever since I my uncle asked me to wash his wife blouse I choose to give myself some distance frm dem, weneva I com bak frm work I would just go straight to my room, they wil b in d sittin room gisting but I wil jst greet them and pass dem by 2ndly, I am working with a multinational company under a contract staff but praying and hoping I wil join d management staff soon.
It means your uncle did not hold any grudge with you for turning down the request of washing his wife's blouse. I will not rebuke you for turning down the request. Except she was sick, I see no reason why he told you to wash his wife's blouse. Though its not a big deal if you washed it. Your action was neither right nor wrong except we understand the circumstances it happened.

For you to be working, it means you are old enough to take decision. You alone understand what you can afford to pay and sustain. Maybe your uncle is already thinking ahead of when you will marry, his suggestion for taking the 2 bedroom apartment. If you can't sustain the payment for now, let him understand what you want and go for what you can afford.
