10 Rocket Propelled Grenades Recovered In Nigeria-Chad Border Following Gun-Duel With Suspected Militants

About 10 Rocket Propelled Grenades and other sophisticated weapons were recovered at the Nigeria-Chad boundary in Borno State by a joint multi-national military squad on Monday.

The incident was confirmed to SaharaReporters by Lt.Col. Sagir Musa, who said the weapons were recovered following a gun battle which left some suspected Islamist extremists dead in Daban Masara border town.

According to him, “The vehicle was intercepted on Monday at about 9pm local time by a combined team of Secret Security Services, the multi-national Joint Task Force, JTF and other security forces.”

Other arms in the consignment included 10 rocket chargers, two AK 47 rifles, and 13 magazines with six rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, he said.  

This incident confirms that Nigerian and Chadian troops are now working together at the border.

The Police Service Commission today announced the promotion of 51 senior police officers, highlighted by the elevation of Philemon I. Leha to the post of Deputy Inspector General of Police to fill the vacancy created by the death of DIG John Haruna.

The decisions were taken today taken in Abuja at the 28th PSC Plenary Meeting, which also dished out punishment for undisclosed offences.
 
Eight Commissioners of Police promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Policeare:  Christopher T. Dega, Aliyu Musa, BalaHassan, Mohammed J. Abubakar, Tambari Y. Mohammed, Ibrahim Abdu, Julius A. Ishola, and Alex Emeka Okeke (AIG Medical Services).
 
In addition, the PSC approved the promotion of 32Deputy Commissioners of Police to Commissioners of Police, while 91 Assistant Commissioners of Police became Deputy Commissioners of Police.
 
All the promotions take effect from today, August1, 2012, except for the remarkable case of an unidentified Sergeant who was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police II with effect from June 7, 2010.
 
At the other end of the scale, and for acts the Commission said were “unbecoming of superior police officers,” it dismissed a superintendent of Police; compulsorily retired a ChiefSuperintendent of Police, and demoted a Superintendent to Deputy Superintendent.

It's as simple as making do with what's available or fighting the system to a total standstill and an eventual overhaul.

Politicians play a central role in our lives. They are the concentrated voices of the people that  make all efforts to improve their constituencies and peoples’ welfare. Good and dependable politicians are always delighted to serve the people and consider themselves as servants and people their paymasters. They represent the hopes, aspirations and the interests of every citizen in the state.

A politician’s qualities are his  characters that are natural, while some of the qualities are as a result of external influences. Promising politicians’ qualities are often backed by skills, experiences, intelligence, integrity, with instincts -all combined together to achieve their goals.

First and foremost, the best quality of a politician is honesty, God- fearing and loving. A faithful and effective politician is trustworthy and reliable. He must capture the essence of truth, display sincerity, candour and practices what he preaches. He makes decisions  and accepts responsibility for his actions and his words.

The same  is true in his dealing with his people. He makes promises and keeps those promises. Someone that people may rely on. Loving people with all his heart, might, mind, soul and striving to help them as a true mark of responsible politician.

Moreover, a fake politician, will after taking the oath of office with the Holy book and lousy thanksgiving services, use their power as an end in itself, rather than for public good, making them indifferent to the progress of their citizens. A good politician becomes the image of his creator.

A 67-year-old woman was burnt to death in an early morning fire at a wing of a twin-duplex on 511 Road, Festac Town, Lagos, on Thursday.

The Commander, Festac Fire Station, Mr Chinyere Azubuike, confirmed the incident. He added that the remains of the deceased had been handed over to the police.

The Divisional Police Officer in Festac, CSP Muhammed Muazu, also confirmed the death.

Muazu added that the husband of the dead woman, who was also injured in the fire incidence, was responding to treatment in an hospital.

A neighbour, Mrs Ayinke Badru, said at the scene of the incident that the fire started around 1 a.m.  on the first floor of the twin duplex.

Badru said that the 20-year-old son of the late seammistress escaped from the burning house and alerted neighbours who then called the fire services and the police.

According to the neighbour, the cause of the fire remained a mystery as there was no public power supply in the area at the time of the incident, and the kitchen of the house was unaffected.

The entire duplex, with wooden partitioning and flooring, was reduced to ashes however, that the second duplex was only slightly affected.

I can't wait for the fraudsters and criminals to be brought to book. This will serve as a deterrent to intending criminals.
