It's difficult to place the rationale behind this massive retirement. My theory would be that it is a fallout of the meeting btw GMB n GEJ recently. Apparently, the top brass of the Nigerian Army (NA) was always bound to be sacked by GMB for their alleged partisanship during the certificate saga and poor handling of the BH issue. GMB has probably negotiated with GEJ for him to wield the hammer instead, so the General won't appear vindictive if he is to do it. Atleast, they all get to retire with full benefits. Think about it: why just NA, why not NAF & NN too? |
I don't know if that story is true, but I doubt the President-elect will go to Imo State for a supplementary election. Add a credible source and clear my doubt. |
I agree that the trajectory the country was moving under Jonathan was quite worrisome, looking at Corruption, Insecurity, Leadership, etc. It was, therefore, important to halt that projectile. However, for an ex president to continually discredit another president is not Statesmanly, especially when Obasanjo himself can be traced to some grave issues. |
The governor expressed confidence that Nigeria may rake in about $75 billion (about N14.93 trillion) if the government agrees to cut its JV equity to only 30 per cent.Great Immediate revenue to solve today's problems (assuming the funds are used judiciously). However, with only 30% stake in the JV, how will that impact the country's Future revenue stream? |

missclasssy:You sound like a Maverick...the non-conforming type. |
mumbasa:You are assuming only 100k persons applied to PushCV. I can assure you more than a million persons applied, so that 4% could well be over 50k persons. |
missclasssy:There's something about you that I like. Can't wrap my head around it yet. |
Goddex:He can't and he won't. You know why: He will be opening up a canker worm of events that will come back and hunt him. A friend of mine who is a DSS operative told me that even the DSS fears how the media get their information. Trust me, there must be some truth in that story for it to be boldly written on the front page - maybe it's been exaggerated a bit. |
Obiagelli:Your analysis wrongly assumes that all that revenue will go to the Federal Government. Remember, the FG only takes about 52% of all accruable revenue to the Federation Account. Read more here: https://www.nairaland.com/2265904/rejoinder-buhari-social-program-laudable |
Dear Barcanista, First and foremost, let me summarize your post on subject matter: SUMMARY You estimate rightly, that the APC government will need to spend about N1.5trillion annually to be able to pay N5,000 to 25million unemployed persons. You also estimate that the APC government will need to spend about N373billion annually to be able to feed over 35million pupils in our primary schools. Meaning the government will need about N1.9trillion annually to service these Social Programs alone. You mention rightly that the Federal budget for 2015 is N4.3trillion, with a total recurrent budget of N2.58trillion. You then question where the APC will get the extra N1.9trillion to service those programs. On The Program for Unemployed My attention has been drawn to the fact that the APC said that due to the huge cost of funding this program, they will phase it over 5years at 5million persons per year. This, therefore, puts the cost at N250billion per year. On Feeding Primary School Pupils Secondly you estimate that there are around 35million pupils enrolled in our primary schools. That figure, definitely includes private and public secondary schools. You can be sure that the government will only focus their program on public primary school pupils which may not account for more than 20million pupils. In this case, the government will only need about N210billion (i.e. using your N10,667/pupil estimate) So you see, to service both programs, the government will only require about 450billion as against your estimate of N1.9trillion On The Budget & How To Fund The Social Programs So, where would the government get this extra money to fund these programs when our total budget is only about N4.3trillion. You will recall that Buhari has said in different fora that he intends to fund his programs from blocking wastages and mismanagement in the system. How does he hope to achieve this? Now, even by admission of the GEJ government, Nigeria looses about 400k barrels of crude per day through theft/illegal bunkering. At $50/bbl, this translates to $20million/day and around $7.3billion/year. At the current exchange rate of N200/$, this will translate to about N1.46trillion. The federal government share (i.e. 52%) of this figure will be about N760billion. It might also interest you to note that the NNPC does not remit proceeds of crude oil sales directly to the Federation account until they have finished deciding what to spend and what to remit – thus giving room for all manner of misappropriation and fraud. You can be rest assured that in this government, all sales from crude oil will first and foremost land in the Federation Account and the NNPC will have to present a budget like every other government agency/parastatal. While it is not clear how much can be saved here, I am pretty sure we will be talking about 100s of billions. The government shall also be more efficient in getting remittances from FIRS, NPA, Nigerian Customs etc to boost government revenue. So by my estimate, the minimum Nigerian Federal Budget should ideally be in the region of N5.5 – N6trillion annually, thus giving the government enough latitude to do more. I’m sure you will see this starting from the 2016 budget. With a GDP of over $500billion and a population of over 170million, this budget is still too small. To put things in perspective, South Africa has a GDP of about $350billion and a population of about 45million, yet they have an annual budget in excess of N20trillion. Clearly, there are so many loopholes in the Nigerian system, making it difficult to capture most of the accruable revenue to the government. In summary, I am pretty confident that this government has the credibility and commitment to perform remarkably well. Even if we do not support or trust them, let's atleast give them the benefit of doubt. While I am not a big fan of such Social Programs, I think it is economically feasible. Funny enough, the deranged fellow wasn't even quoting that url. He was rather referring to www.apc.com.ng in trying to justify his mischievous propaganda. |
Buhari had while speaking to Journalists shortly after casting his vote during the governorship election in Daura promised he would forward a list of the transition committee members with terms of reference to the party leadership for scrutiny. When contacted on phone yesterday, the National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, confirmed that the party had made recommendations on the transition committee and submitted same to Buhari. Is it the party that is recommending to the President or the other way round. #JustAsking |

The average salary of a Nigerian worker based on the national minimum wage is N18,000.00, So the yearly salary is N18,000.00 x 12 = N216,000.00 ($1,333.00). Remember, Yearly Salary of Nigerian Senator = $2,183,685.00.I get your point completely. However I just want to point out that the figures you are giving above is not the AVERAGE a Nigerian worker earns, but rather the MINIMUM. However, as evident from your post, it is obvious that our legislatures are a bunch of criminals. |
Hate the onyibos or like them, they are light years ahead of us. Imagine only Africans leaving in a world of HIV, Ebola, Smallpox, Measles, Polio, Cancer, etc. We would still be running around 'praying' and appeasing some gods while the disease continues ravaging the people. We lack the capacity to THINK, so we explain away every circumstance as Spiritual. |
Artistree:In this riddle (inthisriddle) |
He said that Jang was also removing furniture and other movable household materials from the newly-built N9bn Government House at Rayfield. The bolded. |
That sounds more like it. I know these oyibos are more strategic than religious. |
Classless - as usual. |
Public Declaration of Assets will not be an end in itself, it will be an important first step in the anti-corruption crusade of the GMB government - more like "coming to equity with clean hands". You can be sure that there will be other actions like Sacking, Prosecution, imprisonment, etc of corrupt public officials during this government. I do not trust GMB to stop ALL corruption, but I trust him to strengthen the anti-corruption agencies and also to deal decisively with any of his officials seen to be corrupt. |
kendrick9:The bolded says a lot about you. |
Raiders:Couldn't agree more with you, even though I still wish their subscription was a lot cheaper. NBC can't regulate prices, they can only regulate on licensing, content, etc. It is up to the market to come up with a genuinely competitive alternative, and also up to the end-users to choose which option to patronize. Give credit to South Africans, The only reason we are complaining is because of how good the quality of their services are, and how we wish we can get these services cheap (or probably free). This is a wakeup call - where are the Nigerian entrepreneurs & business men? No point trying to play the victim. |
When was this interview conducted? I'm always impressed with Buhari's simplicity, but I'm not sure this interview was conducted as President-elect - the APC is too organized to allow this happen. |
jamace:Whatever "superior knowledge" you think you have is misguided. It is the type that has plunged this country into a state of lawlessness. The President is the CSO of the country and C-in-C of the armed forces, so all security agencies are expected to yield to his leadership. But this does not require unpatriotic loyalty. At all times, the interest of the country and the Constitution must take precedence. |
Wow! Did Biafran citizens really do all that which Ojukwu listed there? If true, then it seems God really blessed these folks, but yet somehow they manage to curse themselves with their selfishness & greed. |
jamace:I think you did not get your facts right bro. It is only the DSS that has their loyalty primarily to the President. The police and the Military owe their loyalty primarily to the country and the Constitution. |
Clerverly:Not just any SS state. They strategically need at least one of Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa or Delta. |
Kelklein:Thought I saw 24.04.2015 as the deadline? Pls correct me if I'm wrong. |
sauceny:What's your point bro? That the guy may have been hallucinating? |
