My submission is that it'd be easier to monitor elected officials if the population and landmass isn't that much and if the diversity is reduced.

Minority ethnic groups can form a nation with others whom they think share their ideals as a people.

Continuing as a Nigerian nation is not an option if we must progress as a people.

Your points are well noted and they actually hold some merit. I think there's too much distrust in the land, which makes separation a reasonable option just to solve that problem.

Having said that, I still have my issue with separation especially as it concerns Biafra. Why did the SE annex parts of the SS and MB to the Biafra project. They did this without any consultations with the leaders of these regions. This is the same Lordship/conquering mentality that they're always accusing the Fulanis. They first annex the regions and then argue that they can conduct referendum to confirm if they want to join or not. What arrant nonsense! How can the smaller tribes of SS and MB join forces with a dominant SE when they know that the SE with their numerical strength will dominate that new country politically for as long as they want? As you now see, the distrust we were trying to solve through Separation has just cascaded lower to the new contraption.

Best bet is separation.

Let the people form smaller and more manageable nations on their own terms.

Separation is just a convenient argument simply because we always like to feel the "other person" is the problem.

After the Separation, what happens to multi-tribal states? Will it also require separation along those tribal lines?

There is failure of governance across all tribes and religion. The Southeast (who are champions of separation) is an eyesore. They have not demonstrated good governance with the little they have in their region. Or is it the Fulanis that are stopping Southeast governors from providing their people with good roads, quality healthcare, quality education, etc?

The reality is that there is a conspiracy of the ruling class (and that cuts across all tribes and religion) to keep their people oppressed so they can always lord over them.

Now, there's an even bigger problem, and that is the fact that the problem is not just limited to the ruling class. Nearly every citizen has similar mindset of cheating and shortchanging everyone else. From artisans, to civil servants to pastors to lecturers, I mean everyone is always trying to exploit others for their personal gain at the expense of public good.

Even if you were to wipe out this current set of leaders and bring in new people completely, the same cycle is likely to continue...simply because it's an endemic societal problem and not just a leadership problem.

Let me make some conjectures (I could be wrong though). The US were particularly interested in the Sowore case since he's an American resident married to a US citizen. So, the US had vested interest in defending their own. After putting pressure on the FG for his release, it would've been too obvious that the govt was bowing to US pressure had they released only Sowore. They tried to mask this by adding another high profile detainee and coming up with flimsy justification.

Now that Sowore has been released, the US does not have any real vested interest to push for Elzakzay's release, so the govt know they can buy time in continuing their tyranny in his case.

As I said, I'm just conjecturing.

Two things. First, no one can trust the Nigerian Government to implement such law objectively. Just the way we abuse everything, I expect that this law will be abused and simply selectively used to gag the opposition.

Secondly, why are you focused on the social media regulation part? Have you read through that long epistle of job description for the Minister? Why are we not copying all the other positive & progressive aspects, but quick to jump on any anti-masses policy. If like Canada, the Nigerian Government is able to provide proper governance in terms of infrastructure, good jobs, proper elections, etc, then the people could excuse some anti-masses policy. But you cannot perpetually deny the people any form of decent living condition and yet want to compound their misery by gagging them.

The Nigerian Government have been treating their citizens with gross contempt for over 4 decades now. So, don't patronize me, Mr Sirika.

Nigerians in Nigeria are even more willing to work like bigger slaves but unfortunately the jobs are not there. In other climes, at least the work is there and the remuneration is enough to make you live a decent life. Nigeria us a giant slum. Dirty roads, no electricity, no portable water. Corruption stinks in the air. People are willing to scrape gutters in Nigeria if they are employed to do so. Folks wash plates in Europe and can afford accommodation, cars, school fees and even send a little home. In Nigeria, some bankers (contract staff) have been working for years but can't even afford a car.

It's almost "normal" in Nigeria for lecturers to extort students, police to extort road users, Ministry workers to extort visitors, politicians to rape the treasury, artisans to steal from building sites, etc. I can go on and on.
