I don't want to wade into anyone's argument but my sister and I applied for our British P in 1994 too and received it on the fourth day too. Prior to this, we used to travel on my mum's passport.

We were asked to bring several documents but the only document we took was our birth certificate. I guess my mum was thinking about us being on her Nigerian passport and issues to do with dual nationality, hence did not give us her passport to take along and it would have taken my parents a long time to dig up their records.

We just told them there was a fire and . . .British people keep records hence were able to use only the birth cert that we supplied. When I reapplied for my passport ten years later, they brought out the original application form I had filled then.

VCD's are cheaper than DVD's.

I usually buy films on VCD for between 200 to 300 naira, which is the equivalent of £1.

Regarding the word "cot", you need to be a bit more specific, is it the word film directors use as in "cut it's a wrap huh

TV/MoviesRe: I Can Solve The Problem Of Movie Piracy by bigbumper(f): 4:21pm On Mar 12, 2007
@ Blow

Agree with you regarding poverty being one of the cause of privacy and bringing the price down, but it is not only a third world problem issue.

Here in the Uk you can get up to 5 films for £10 from chinese peeps, OR if you don't support the idea of piracy (like me grin grin) you can wait for about a year for the same film to come out at the cinema and then wait for another six months for it to go onto DVD, which can be bought for anything between £15 to £20 each.

Simply put it is greed on the part of the movie industry. What costs them less than a pound to make ends up in the shops for around £15 to £20 pounds.
CelebritiesRe: Is Paddy Adenuga Rude And Pompous? by bigbumper(f): 1:45pm On Mar 08, 2007
What is wrong with people these days? If people were denouncing the fact that he should not get a mention on a celebrities forum, then I could have perhaps understood why people were getting the hump.

This is a forum for discussing celebrities and if you don't have anything to contribute to a topic it is not the end of the world.

How is this topic different and what makes it less relevant from all the other topics about the other celebrities like who is finer, who is sexier, who is uglier, who's had ten babies, who is jho dating now, blah, blah, blah?

So what if a guy started the thread?

So what if it is just rumours?

Why can't he be the subject of a thread?

So what if a post is created about him, what is so disgusting about it?

What does jealousy have to do with it? (For instance, a lot of girls on nairaland hate beyonce for reasons known to them and deny this as jealousy)

If you wanna be seen as contributing to serious relevant issues affecting the world, or discuss the Hague convention, why not go to science or politics or technology forum?

THIS IS A CELEBRITY FORUM HENCE MOST IF NOT ALL OF THE POST HERE IS BASED ON RUMOURS, FALSE ALLEGATION AND HEARSAY.

People need to get a life man.

TravelRe: What Did You First Experience In The US? by bigbumper(f): 10:51pm On Mar 07, 2007
She got me back though, bigtime.

I went to have my bath in the evening and unbeknown to me she rang the emergency services, her story "my junior sister has been bathing herself since morning and I think she needs help".

I did not understand the commotion that was going on outside so when the ambulance crew turned up and asked me to get out of the bath I did not know and kept on bathing. I thought it was someone that wanted to use the toilet.

Needless to say, the door was broken down and my sister's story about me bathing was corroborated. I was carted off to hospital whilst still protesting my innocence but no one believed me. I ended up in mental hospital and kept on protesting my sanity to no avail. Hospital staffs refused to believe me, saying that mad people usually say they are not mad.

To make matters worse, after spending a week undergoing tests to check my insanity, my sister was asked if I could be discharged but she said no, that I should be kept in for a further week. (she later told me she asked for the extra week so that she could enjoy the rest of her holiday in the UK without me playing any further pranks on her).

I have learnt my lesson.
TravelRe: What Did You First Experience In The US? by bigbumper(f): 10:29pm On Mar 07, 2007
Oh another one.

She wanted to go sightseeing in the westend, and I told her she could take either bus 15, 25 or if late N15 or N25 on her way back home.

Our friends saw her at a bus stop later in the evening and when asked what bus she was waiting for, she said bus N25. The time was six o clock and night buses don't start running till after twelve midnight. They still make fun of her till today.

SISTER'S FIRST TRIP TO UK FROM US

Got on the bus, looked round for where to drop the coin, could not find any, then stuck it in the slot where the ticket comes out of. Driver was like WTF and asked my sister where she was from, I quickly answered Nigeria and everyone on the bus started laughing. Thank God for her american accent that saved the day, otherwise I am sure she would have dropped dead with embarassment. THe bus had to be taken out of service for repairs.

TravelRe: International Passport for 200 USD, Am I being Ripped Off? by bigbumper(f): 9:55pm On Mar 07, 2007
paid 10000 naira for my Nigerian passport, even got it signed by the oga patapata the same day (stage 1 to 20, outta 21 stages to obtain a nigerian pali) but due to the fact that scanner was broken and had to send replacement from abuja, did not receive till a week later.

Mobile phones costs more in Nigeria. It is cheaper to get a mobile phone abroad because they are sold as part of contract at subsidised rates, hence the reason why phones that come free as part of a contract package often costs anything between £300-£800 when handsets are purchased alone.
TravelRe: NDLEA Officers At Murtala Muhammed Airport by bigbumper(f): 2:57pm On Mar 07, 2007
Been there, got the T-shirt and the medal.

Have travelled to and from Nigeria via Frankfurt a few times now and always get upset the way Nigerians are treated. I know those officials can be mean, infact they are there as soon as we step off the plane.

Fought an official as usual and refused to give him my passport or step into some area others were being told to wait because other nationals (whites) were not being stopped. Manager intervened and apologised that they sometimes had to bunch the innocent alongside with the guilty sometimes.

In the end he explained that they have a lot of trouble with Nigerians and fake Pali, hence the reason immigration officials are stationed at the entrance. He also told me that with the Jamaicans, the problem is drugs so they usually welcome them with sniffer dogs.

Like I said though, I think I have changed. Miss those times though. I guess it is what motherhood does to you.
TravelRe: NDLEA Officers At Murtala Muhammed Airport by bigbumper(f): 4:10am On Mar 02, 2007
@alabiyemmy

I reiterate, step outta line, you get it, geddit?

Like I mentioned in the earlier post (see first post on this topic), when I arrived at City airport IN LONDON, thirteen drugs enforcement officers descended on me and when I told them to f*ck off, they apologised saying they were only acting on a tip-off they had received that I was carrying drugs, and two stayed behind to re-pack my bag.

And when I travelled to the states, I left the customs officer that accosted me in tears (and I received a rapturous and standing ovation for it) because I was not aware of the fact that they also had the power and right to refuse entry.

I waited three hours and could not find my luggage and this pr*ck started asking me what I had come to do, who I was, where I would be staying, etc The crunch came when she started riffling through my diary, I asked her what the f*ck she thought she was doing going through my diary and the diary nearly flew outta her hands. In revenge she took my passport went to check whether it was genuine, when she handed it back to me around twenty minutes later and said "it's real you may go" i cursed her further and that was when people started to clap for me.

I am glad to report though that all this happened in my early twenty's, I have mellowed down a great deal, but still have a few sparks every now and then.

@rust3dboy

One year Diploma!!! PHEW!!! Thank God "intention to leave"  did not rear its ugly head in the ECO's decision.

Regarding "ability to meet the cost of the course/maintenance and accommodation", you could either choose to be sarcastic and tell them a non-negotiable part of their job specification is the ability to pay attention to detail and tell them to "take more than a cursory glance" at the financial documents supplied by your father (sloppiness and official error) OR let it pass and include the same details again in your appeal submission and witness statement, so that it would appear thrice in the appeal bundle prepared by the ECO if they are stupid enough to let it go to the tribunal.

Re: ability/intention to study, include as much paperwork as you can regarding your ability to undertake this course, and information regarding all the research you took before you decided to settle for this course.

Though it was not mentioned, it might also help to include why you could not undertake to do this course in Nigeria PLUS proof of what you are going back to do in Nigeria after the course ends bacause some Judges usually get angry with ECO's for refusing on flimsy grounds whilst other substantial grounds to turn down applicants are applicable.

With a degree "intention to leave after your course of study" no longer comes up because one is legally allowed to work for a year and your employer might decide to retain you afterwards.

All this new guy has done is kissed you, he has not told you he likes you or wants to date you.

You told him you still love your boyfriend, blah, blah, blah, yet he kissed you and you kissed him back so he will have this at the back of his mind that you could do the same to him if he started dating you too.

Besides this guy could be acting on the rebound and using you to fill in the gap.

Borrowing excerpts from Muyiwa's post (see below), does the issue about the 5-days review decision bare any resemblance to refusals of somebody in UK detention as you claim?

We all know Muyiwa's case relates to student visa, not detention, so why was the issue of the 5-days review decision included as a covering letter in his determination letter? (Note, the letter says THIS DETERMINATION)

muyiwabank:
i just saw something on the letter enclosed with my determination.

a paragraph there says:

Any application must be made in accordance with the relevant Rules of court and must be made within 5 days of receipt (or deemed receipt) of this determination, except where the Appellant is outside the UNITED KINGDOM, in which case any application by the Appelant must be made within 28 days of receipt (or deemed receipt) of this determination.
muyiwabank:
i just saw something now in the AIT site under the frequently asked question number 12.

check below:

FAQ 12 Visas & Entry Clearance
The Immigration Judge has allowed my appeal, but the Visa Section doesn’t have a copy of the decision. Why?
When an appeal is allowed, the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal (AIT) will forward the Tribunal determinations to you, your representative and the Respondent (the Home Office). This is so that any party who wants to ask for a review of the determination on a point of law can do so. The AIT aims to do this within 12 working days of the hearing. The Home Office will let the Entry Clearance Officer know of the decision. The Home Office has 5 days in which to challenge the determination. If they decide not to do so they will send a copy of the determination to the Entry Clearance Officer and aim to do this within 4 weeks.

Let him go.

Like nike said, you need to walk away.

Marrying him will not bring you happiness, but would make things worse. Being alone is not the same as being lonely. Trust me it's not an easy thing to do but you would eventually discover that it is not as bad as the emotional turmoil you are putting yourself through now.

Like giving up smoking or losing weight, you need strength and willpower to get him out of your system cos he is toxic, he is not making you happy, he's left for six months and not come back, his mum don't like you, and you can't have friends because of his insecurity.

Take it to the Lord in prayer.
TravelRe: Uk Visa - Visa Appeal Process by bigbumper(f): 1:40am On Feb 02, 2007
They only have five days to seek a review, after which they have to comply.

They can still try and "jabo" you though by change of circumstances, misrepresentation, etc hence the need to go with an updated enrolment letter and bank statement.

Don't wait for 56 days, take your own copy of the determination in ASAP. There is more information regarding this on the same website you got the 5-day thingy from, regarding what the presenting officers should do with your own copy.

@Seun, what makes u think that the tax people pay equals tuition for their Education. People in UK do not complain about paying Taxes, they all know that the Tax that they pay benefits them one way or the other. Also, UK is the only country that helps family financially if they cannot afford to send their children to University. And when I was in college, I was paid given money every week just for attending college. And they help families that live in poverty.
@walelead, i live in Abbey wood, my house is not far from Thamesmead. About 90% of Nigerians own their own house in UK.
Where on earth did you dig your stats from? About 90% own kini?
And who says UK people are not complaining about paying tax? UK is able to help some families financially, give you money to go to college etc only because of the taxpayers.
If you earn £30k per annum, your take home pay is £19k out of which you have to pay rent, council tax, your medication, your children's school fees, plus your kids don't get the weekly allowance that you get, etc, so how do they enjoy paying this tax? Why do you think a lot of them think it is better to be on benefit than to work?
