Vor's right to say that there is no law to prevent one from making a fresh application for entry clearance. Even if you have twenty appeals pending, you are still allowed to apply for further entry clearance until you are blue in the face and it will not prejusdice your previous application.

An applicant may hold more than one valid entry clearance, e.g. a regular traveller already holding a two or five year multiple visit visa can be issued with an entry clearance for a short term work permit.

Considering the fact that your friend that was deported from Heathrow to MMA, had a valid entry clearance (visiting visa), she could have requested for what I believe is called an in-country apeal(correct me if I'm wrong anyone), for being refused leave to enter. At least rather than going back to Nigeria, she would have been allowed into the UK to lodge her appeal against refusal of leave to enter.

It was because you posted that you are not doing odd jobs and suffering and earn more than £30k and don't consider £30k a good salary, THAT prompted Chimaze to ask how many people you know under the age of 35 who earned such. And you have identified you and your acquiantances and your friends and your counterparts and your cousin.

You also mentioned that everyone should strive to get into a good school in order to get a good job and neglecting the obvious fact that age is not on everyone's side.

In such ideal situation, everyone seeking greener pasture from Nigeria would have to be between sixteen and eighteen years of age, get their A levels, foundation and university education at a cost of roughly £12,000 per annum for international students tuition fee and boarding fee.

Anyone older than this wold have to compete with younger graduates like yourselves and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figu7re out who is gonna get the job

Rate of living in London is very high. Check out Chimaze's breakdown of a middle class earner with an income of £30k. These are the average wages of Teachers, Senior House Officers, Nurses, Social Workers, Bank Managers, Lecturers, etc

Apart from this do you also know that the biggest room in your friend's apartment would be the size of your walk-in closet!!! A three bedroom apartment/house over here with a dimension of around 900 square metre is deemed to be larger than average!!!

A person contemplating on whether to take a low paying job is an embodiment of embarassment to the average Nigerian graduate INDEED. What about the prostitutes, the armed robbers, the yahoo-yahoo crew, etc

Some people even doubted the fact that the OP was a graduate in Chemical Engineering because he did not submit his CV to shell, LNG, etc, as if these companies are going to pay him his salary the day he hands in his CV.

USA's policy regarding entry is slightly different from UK's. There is no personal discretion in place here, the law is the law (not all the time though, britain is a two-faced country). Over there apart from the consular staffs, immigration officers and even customs officers (your homeland people) can even refuse you entry at the port of entry at whim and tend to give first time travellers to the states a lot of aggro.      

Not knowing she was only doing her job, I remember the first time I relocated to America and got accosted by a customs officer who wanted to know how long I was gonna be there for, how much I had, who I would be staying with, how did you pay for your ticket, etc. I was so mad at her, she had turned red, and was shaking and was in tears by the time I finished lambasting her. I even recollect arguing with her that in case she has forgotten, her role was to deal with luggages, contraband, etc, not passengers. The weird thing though was that even though I was in the wrong (I did not know the poor thing was only doing her job), I got a loud cheer and clapping from staffs and other passengers alike.

An ECO has to follow the rules and regulation listed below, not his or her discretion hence getting a visa is NOT the same as applying for a job or winning the lottery.Once one fulfils the visa requirement below, one SHOULD be issued with a visa. 

There is definitely a quota because they cannot give every successful applicant a visa, hence the reason, a lot of people get turned down with flimsy, irrelevant excuses, even when you have correctly dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's e.g. the geology student and the 17 year old mentioned in earlier posts. 

No matter how correct you fill the form, no matter how robust your account balance is, no matter how early you apply, no matter how genuine your papers are (mind you, they don't know their arse from their elbow when it comes to real or fake documents), a lot of people are still gonna be turned down.

So in essence, a scam is in operation, otherwise British Council would not be fervently promoting UK education as they do in Nigeria. They, alongside with universities and colleges continue to encourage people to apply all year round by organizing fairs, placing adverts in papers, et al.     

Besides, doesn't it tell you something that Nigeria is arguably the only country with two British Embassies?

With regards to people overstaying their student visa, Nigerians are not even in the top ten according to a report carried out last year. Jamaica came top. According to that report, only about 500 Jamaican student applied for a visa, but over 17,000 students already in the UK applied for extension of study. Ghanaians were number 9 on the list.

I never meant paltry in that term, and contrary to lessening the burden of his parent, like most cases, he probably is the breadwinner of his family, and has to send part of his wages home, increasing his own burden, which in most cases, makes life not really better abroad.

The high influx of people of Eastern European into the UK, is simply due to the fact that
they can earn in one month on minimum wage, what would take them around eight months in
their country.

Call it what you like but an escort who works for such gangmasters would be lucky if they smell £30 per day out of the £150 plus an hour that their client forks out to their housemother, it is only those escort who don't have a tag around their neck and work for "reputable" escort agencies that can command such large amount.

I am glad that we have ascertained that your friend EARNS £8.50 per hour and rakes in £3000 in three months working forty hours a week, and that people on £6 -£7 could earn that in 4 months and people on minimum wage would earn that in about 5 months, you get the drift?   

But the fact still remains the same, how LONG would it take for them to SAVE £3000? Abi dem no dey pay rent, bills, etc. 

My point is, IF your friend can scrimp and manage to save £400 every month for example, it will still take him SEVEN AND HALF MONTHS  to save this £3000 that people are saying is chicken change. These people say they and all the friends they have, earn in the region of $100,000, and are trying to use that to justify that life is better abroad.

for the record, I never said everyone was on minimum wage, the reference to minimum wage was just to highlight the fact that only a few people manage to break the glass ceiling and that takes YEARS of hard graft.

Even higher education for citizens is not free, and has to be paid for. Likewise this country is a pay-as-you-go country, if you don't pay for electricity, water, etc, you don't get nothing.

And isn't it quite telling for the government to scrape student grants and replace it with student loans promising that you do not have to pay back until you are earning £15,000 a year as a graduate before tax, only to reduce the threshold to £10,000? i.e reduced to £5.50 per hour before tax!!!

Wonders shall never cease.

Forking out £3000 to get a visa is a bargain 

This is the equivalent of FIVE MONTHS SALARY on minimum wages after tax for a person who has a LEGAL right to be person in the UK.

And if the minimum wages in US is still around $6.50 per hour, this is the equivalent of working for about 800 hours.

If you have a legal right to be abroad, then you know you are AT LEAST GUARANTEED those aforementioned minimum wages, otherwise, you have to either resort to fraud to get by or at least face years of struggle to get your foot on the ladder.

In the UK, professional job seekers and graduates, like Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, IT Specialists, often have a tough time landing a job, with one vacancy usually attracting over 2000 job applicants, etc.

Not to talk less those with little or no skills and the legal right to work, who now have to compete with the 3 million plus Eastern European national who have been bequested the legal right to work in the UK.

Frankly speaking, the quality of life, peace of mind, stability and the psychological aspect is not worth it, especially if you are not legally supposed to be in the country.

And to the guy who thinks nothing of dishing out 5000 naira willy-nilly, again this is the equivalent of 5 hours of working for a minimum wage in the UK after tax. Abeg where you dey, make i forward you my account details?

Have to do scan to check for fibroids and multiple blood test for hypothyroidism, lupus, C3, C4, LFT, plus about 12 other blood tests. Scared of forthcoming blood tests because of low blood volume due to being anaemic and fluctuating blood pressure due to POTS. A Consultant Anaesthetist has to take blood everytime because of severe difficulty in drawing blood from me.   

Went to pick up prescription for cocodamol  from chemist today, as I had to come off Tramadol and amytryphthyline, and described current symptoms to Pharmacist. He wrote Symphisis Pubis Dysfunction on a complimentary card and advised me to give it to OB/GYN. I just dey collect medical condition like say I dey collect treasures and medals.      I don tire o.

THE NDLEA PEOPLE WANTED TO PLANT SOMETHING IN MY LUGGAGE ON BEHALF OF THE CUSTOM OFFICER THAT I ABUSED.   


I had no choice but to abuse customs officers at lagos airport when they told me I had to have a certificate to carry only 5 tuber of yam. I went mad when one of them butted his nose in and said that the notice about the certificate was on the wall, because I know the certificate is only required for wholesalers. I called them thieves saying that even if i am carrying meat etc containing disease to UK, it was none of their business. Afterall they don't bother what disease you bring into Lagos, once you give them bribe.       

I was told to go to the sixth floor to procure the certificate, but went to complain to the Manager who told me I should give them money as that is what they wanted. I told my brother that he could return my luggage to the car since it was already tagged, that I could claim my luggage as missing when I got to London. My dad who had spent over one hour begging one of the customs officer, refused my suggestion. He told me I should go and apologise to the woman, that they had accepted that I should carry the yam.

I went to the woman and told her that "they said I should say sorry", she ignored me. There was now over 50 NDLEA staffs around her. I wheeled the suitcase back to the airline and told them to remove their stupid tags that if not for my dad, I would have declared the suitcase missing in London,  The custom oficer that had her back turned to my dad for the whole time he was talking to her, and whom I was told to apologise to, ran so fast to where I was to tell me that sebi we have said you could carry it,  I told her that I did not want to, and gave the suitcase to my dad to take home for me.

I kept my eyes focused on my bag whilst I went through further security checks and saw at least 8 NDLEA people again. I decided not to check in anything because I did not want them to slip something in my luggage.

Naturally, when I got to London, 13 officials pulled me aside, I heard one of them mentioning two vials. I automatically knew they wanted to search me for cocaine. I only had my small hand luggage with me and they searched this for over one hour, questioning me in the process. I was tired so was replying them in a tired, quiet Nigerian accent.

When they saw the luggage tag for the bag I left behind in Lagos, one of them asked what it was and something inside me snapped and I replied in a loud British voice thus "What the f*ck did you mean what is this? You work for a f*cking airline, what is with the stupid questions? Once I spoke, ten of them moved away uncomfortably, because they realised from my accent that I was not an illegal immigrant.

The one asking the question started apologising, asking if I knew what they were looking for, I said no and he told me that they had received a tip off from Lagos officials that I was carrying cocaine.

Monister has hit the nail on the head, plus citizenship can be revoked anytime, so people should not get carried away.

One thing to remember though is that even if you dey knack blue or red or yellow passport and you become naturalised or whatever, that passport you are holding still states your place of birth as Nigeria. So no matter who you show your passport to, once they see this piece of information, they automatically know that you were once an alien. 

Even those that are born in US, UK, etc still get referred to as children of second, third generation immigrant,   
 
In Italy, aliens are referred to as secondos, even if you naturalise and become a citizen.

And was it not in Australia or New Zealand, three years ago, that the government was complaining about the high level of immigration and wanted to send people back, they even tried to get rid of the aborigines.

My mum used to bring suya, snails, etc from Nigeria whenever she came over. She even got arrested once in Lagos for crossing the road in Onipan, Palmgrove, instead of using the foot bridge, when she went to buy smoked fowl and duck entrenched in pepper for me. Luckily, she had enough money to bail herself and her friends out otherwise they would have had to hold their ears in their hand whilst stooping up and down.

Once she came and was narrating how a woman had been detained at Heathrow airport for carrying meat, and was shocked and called me omo pau, when I told her I knew that it was illegal to bring meat product into UK and did not tell her. Anyway, I told her to calm down as it's not a big deal, as she would only spend six months in Holloway prison if caught.  

Now she would not even bring one grain of foodstuff for me anymore.

I love Nigerian food and never eat at home when I'm in Nigeria. I always go to bukas no matter how much food poisoning I get.

I used to hate beans but got converted when my Ghanian friend cooked it for me once. It was finger licking good. Damn. She used a whole 2l bottle of palm oil though, so it is definitely not an healthy option.

On getting back to the country, I was admitted to hospital for the past two weeks for first gastrointeritis, then UTI, then anaemia and orthostatic intolerance. I had to sign a self discharge form against the wish of my ob/gyn, as I had had enough of the hospital.

Since the age of 18, I have been saddled with medically confirmed severe types of Rheumatic disease in the four main group of Rheumatic diseases, namely; Inflammatory arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Soft tissue rheumatism and Back pain.  I have HMS/EDS, FMS, CFS, CSM, Scoliosis, Back pain, Depression, Valgus hind-feet, Plantar Fasciitis, plus RSI, Rheumatic Fever, Tennis elbow, Raynauds Phenomenon, Scoliosis, Depression, Anaemia(loss of blood), etc. Because all my joints are affected, and because of my age and because of damaged tissue and because I left thing too late according to my specialist, the condition are amenable to surgery and I have to learn to live with chronic pain for the rest of my life. 

What hope is there for me?

If I get pregnant, do I have to worry about rupture of fetal membrane, premature labour, or complications that could result from having a caeserean?

If you reread the last paragraph (paragraph 4) of her first post on the 20th of January 2006, you will realise that it is self explanatory enough. Abi ocho, you no fit count too?

You are still in a fragile and vulnerable mood right now, so you should minimise all contact with him. If you are going to talk to him on the phone, make sure the conversation is very brief and straight to the point. If he wants to see you, suggest you meet in a public place and this too should be a short meeting. Ensure all contact with him is on your terms, and stick to it.

Anything further than this would be inviting trouble and could create a "sex with the ex" situation which will hurt more if he leaves again. Don't allow him to take advantage of you, otherwise it would become a situation of why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free.

If he wants to be your friend, fine, but you really have to be strong before you allow him back into your life and make sure it is on your own terms.

A word of advice I always give to my friend is that A BUYER WOULD NEVER PAY MORE THAN A SELLER IS DEMANDING. This simply means that when you go to the market, you never pay more than the cost price, instead you try to get the seller to reduce the price. The same is true for men, never lower your standard for them and don't let them get away wiith not treating you right, as once they start, they would never stop, because they have the assurance that "she loves me and she will never leave no matter what i do.

You can love two people at once, but it is hardly possible you would love them the same way. If it can be quantified, you would discover that the percentage you have for one would be greater than the other.

Kai oluwaseun, haba you people, go easy on the poor guy now. He was only requesting for advice. They both love each other but probably because he was not yet made and ready to settle down or perhaps because of her age or family pressure or peer pressure, she had to get married and felt she could no longer wait for him. She could have been nagged into getting married by her family and is not happy in the marriage. One would never know. I am not surprised that he is not bothering to reply. You guys have probably chased him away because of your attitude.

Why do you have to think this was a fabricated story? What is so hard for you to believe about his story. Cases like this are very common. Women are perceived that they should be married by a certain age, otherwise people would poke fun at them that they are on the shelf, whilst men on the other hand can put off marriage till they are in their forties and beyond.
