sixtuschimere:
Nigerians have been advised to be vigilant of the activities of smugglers at this yuletide season as all kinds of consumable are being smuggled into the country.

Controller incharge of Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ Ikeja Lagos, Haruna Mammud, gave this advice during a press briefing on the seizure of suspected Plastic Rice by Officers of the Unit.

He said, “Today am happy to tell you that after our last week press briefing, we intensified our operations in search of the alleged “plastic rice” and with the support of some patriotic Nigerians most especially a member of the forth estate of the realm, we were able to locate where this rice were stored for distribution to the public as yuletide gift”.

“As I speak with you, we have successfully evacuated 102 bags of 25 kg branded Best Tomato Rice has no NAFDAC Batch Number and manufacture/expiring dates. Preliminary analysis on the rice after boiling shows that the rice is sticky and plastic in nature. We are still investigating to ascertain how many of this rice has been circulated and how best to retrieve it in order to protect and safeguard the health of Nigerians and to bring those behind it to book”.

Compt. Haruna praised the commitment and diligence of the officers and men of the FOU ‘A’ for living up to their responsibilities. He also appreciated well-meaning Nigerians who provided timely information that led to this discovery and seizure.

He advised economic saboteurs who see yuletide season as peak period for their nefarious acts to desist from such illegal business as the Unit has devised other operational modalities that will make them run for their monies and count their loses.

No you're not! This day will surely come to pass. The target would be to re-denominate our currency. N1000 would become the new N1, then they will create a new N5000 which will become the new N5. The end-game is to equate the new Naira to $1 which will be regarded as one of the major achievement of the government/APC grin

I see where this is going. Before Buhari leaves it will be #1000 to $1. Then they will finally rebase the currency to make #1 to $1. The guy actually has sense*

The Federal Government yesterday confirmed the outbreak of a new strain of Bird Flu in Kano State.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Audu Ogbeh confirmed the outbreak at the ministry in Abuja.Ogbeh said the migration of birds from Europe is responsible for the outbreak, “as they stop to rest and feed at Adaeja basin before moving to South Africa”.

Ogbeh said the virus has only affected Kano State and advised farmers to take preventive measures to avoid further spread to other states.
On why there has not been a permanent cure for the virus, he said the constant change in the strain of the virus is responsible for this.

“There is bird flu in Cameroon and in Europe now, they move from Europe to South Africa in the winter, they stop in the Adaeja river basin for days to rest before they move on.

“We don’t have the vaccine yet, we are calling a meeting of all the commissioners of Agriculture to take measures to control it because there is no vaccine yet.

“We are telling farmers to try and take measures to avoid the spread of the disease.
“The strain keeps changes which is why vet doctors have not been able to find a solution to it.

“For now only Kano has an outbreak and we are controlling it, we are making sure there is no movement of chicken from state to state.

“Unfortunately those who lost chickens last year, we have not been able to compensate because we didn’t have money. We are putting some funds together to help them out.”

Besides most elderly people prefer to stay in their bedrooms and be served. Don't be surprised her bedroom alone is worth billions. One more thing, that may also be the general living room. Car Talk › Re: water level steady but coolant level drops. why? by bigtt76(f): 2:42pm On Dec 18, 2016
Well I was shocked myself but on explaining, he mentioned that most of these cars imported into the country were not tropicalized to our weather hence the need to ensure extra care is taken to militate against our harsh weather.

For example, the rating on the engine oil types - 5w, 10w or 20w actually represents the least temperature which allows it to flow effectively around the engine. You now know why your car was rated 5w ....in a temperate country, the weather drops as low as that hence the choice. Choosing a higher rating out there would mean taking a longer time for the oil to flow around.

Now imagine Nigeria where temperature during dry seasons can go as high as 30 degrees mid day, and you use a 5w, 10w, 20w oil rating, you don't need to idle the car for long before the oil flows around well. You can park your car for hours and in the afternoon you're ready to rev high as the oil must have attained the desired level.

This brings us to why the two radiator is favored, with temperature going as high as 30 degrees, it is very likely that the oil would start burning off faster than normal due to high engine temperature such that a single radiator would not be enough to keep it optimally cool. Forget the coolant because most are formulated for the temperate region where temperature rarely goes above 15 degrees. The weather also help in complementing the cooling down of the engine.

In Nigeria for example, the weather only complements in increasing the temperature of the engine.

@diportivo ....no there's heat in other parts of the world BUT not as high as obtainable in Nigeria and other tropic weather countries.

Happy Sunday peeps kiss

is true o... oga adding anoda radiator again?

My friend just raised an important issue here now - need to add an additional radiator because of the heat in this country. Also 20w30 and NOT 20w50 is recommended in the absence of 5w30 or 10w30.

For coolant, best you stick with genuine ones. You can get from Games Store at the mall. Reason is most of their suppliers are audited and cannot be found wanting in products such as this.

mili3kid:
WORD!!! na word U get there bro.
tnx again.

any recommendations as rgds d coolant?
Car Talk › Re: water level steady but coolant level drops. why? by bigtt76(f): 11:57am On Dec 16, 2016
Very possible. Most times the higher the oil grade, the thicker it is and the more load the engine is forced to undergo running with it thereby inflicting more load on the engine and overheating takes place. it is not only when the two parts rub against each other that overheating takes place you know. On the other hand, using the recommended grade ensures it runs smoothly as intended. Best you stick to recommended ...difficult though but I'm sure if you liaise with other people with similar car model, they would let you know the best alternative.

mili3kid:
exactly. recommended is 5w30 bt its rly difficult to get. even if I see its super expensive. so had to make do wit d best alternative. 10w30 ... bt sincerely most times na 20w50
do U feel the engine oil is the cause?
Career › Re: Mid-life Career Crises. Please Help! by bigtt76(f): 7:10am On Dec 16, 2016
Dicey situation you got there. The issue is you need to choose your career path and follow it. There's no crooked thing about it. If you're sticking to Sales, then try and get yourself certified in sales/marketing. On the other hand, if you decide to move to Accounting, then in addition to the certifications, you NEED the experience.

What you need to do is, chart a plan, ensure you save enough to keep you for the one year you would be engaged as accounting trainee in addition to another 6 months searching for job. So you should have a war-chest of funds to last you 18 months.

Once you've satisfied the above, look for a trainee job and finish your certifications. Get as many relevant certification as possible related to your career path before looking at applying for the Canadian visa stuff.

During the course of your training, you can also engage in training other would-be ICAN candidates (at least you would have attained a higher level than most new candidates) as well as part-time accounting jobs for SMEs looking to file their returns.

All the best.

mbl321:
Hello Nairalanders,

I really need help at this point as I am confused as to what direction to take given the wealth of knowledge and resources I have.

The Background
I have about 6years experience in Mid-Level Sales Management with 2 Multi-National companies but I desire a career change to a field that I have always been attached to from way back: Accounting.
I am in the Professional Stage of ICAN, would be rounding up in May 2017 (By His Grace).

The Problem
I have no Accounting work-related experience and I fear that if I decide to resign my current job to work with a small accounting firm for experience, I would be taking a pay cut of close to 80% (I am in Ogun State and there are not too many big audit firms around here).
Let's even say the pay cut is not an issue and I resign my job to start working with an accounting firm as a trainee, what are the chances of me getting a "normal" paying job once I'm Chartered and with a few months (maybe a year) of accounting experience as a trainee given the current situation of the country? I can afford to take a temporary pay-cut or even work for free for at most a year but after that nko?
I have also thought of getting additional international qualifications in the field of accounting such as SAP FI/CO/BusinessOne, Certified Analytics Professional Uk, Sage 50/100 Accounts and Payroll and maybe take a short online course with a Canadian or Uk University in Financial Management and Analysis. Maybe this would help me secure a great accounting job fast whether within or outside the country. I have thought of applying to Canadian companies from here under the Federal Skilled Worker program with the aforementioned qualifications once completed but would they take me given that I don't have relevant accounting experience?

But actually, I do have 6 years experience, but in Sales! Isn't there a way I can leverage that in the pursuit of my accounting aspiration? Maybe something like Sales Finance or Sales accounting? And build accounting knowledge on the sales experience and backup with relevant additional professional qualifications?

This is all getting me worked up and I think I'm resigning my job soon because I have already made a big irredeemable mess here getting confused and not being at the top of my game anymore.

I need expert advice please...from industry professionals.
Car Talk › Re: water level steady but coolant level drops. why? by bigtt76(f): 11:01pm On Dec 15, 2016
Ok but is it the same specified for your car by the manufacturer? That is the point I'm driving at. Gone are those days when we thought for example, the thicker the oil the better. Infact the thicker it is, the worse it is for some engines.

mili3kid:
hmmm... but nob anyau oil I dey use for my car o. m very careful of d oil i use....
Car Talk › Re: water level steady but coolant level drops. why? by bigtt76(f): 9:44pm On Dec 15, 2016
Best you search online using your car type and model I'm sure you will get more info on that. You also consider the engine oil type you use. Most of these tokunbo cars don't like any kain oil.

Some prefer synthetic or natural. Use the wrong type, the oil burns off quickly thereby overheating the engine. When you use the wrong oil and coolant it's even worse.

mili3kid:
exactly. wc was d reason why i drained d water n put coolant.
