If you can afford to follow the maintenance schedule (it's in the manual, change items when they reach stipulated mileage don't wait for them to spoil), use the recommended fluids and don't abuse the car, you should be fine.

Anything can be your first car as long as you can afford to get (and keep) it.

For the flood issue though, modern cars aren't good with that.

Correct the abuse so it won't be your portion.

The car I've used longest has a single cell radiator, has the thermostat intact and the fan only comes at around 90°.

Same engine for the past 6 years, zero overheating, zero issues.

Oga pls keep quite. I advised based on experience. Forget whats on paper, [b]many cars imported to our country are not designed for this hot climate [/b]hence the reasons for this modifications to suite our weather. The first camry i used had this same issue, i got the experience when we changed to double cell as the single cell could not handle the existing temp. I wasnt a fan of technicians removing thermostats, but over time it seems the best solutions to some overheating challenges.

Including those from Texas, UAE and South Africa?

You might end up doing a better job than them, Ive been there when a car was repainted and apart from the sanding and smoothing part I didn't see any big deal.

They used this vulcanizers compressor-motor contraption so maybe you can hire it from a nearby one maybe on a Sunday when they would be less busy shouldn't pass 1k and look for the spray can and nozzle it attaches to (looked locally fabricated too )

I buy sandpaper different grits very cheap from building material sellers (the ones that sell nails, tools, etc) but I'd say look for a local mechanic shop and give them the job to sand and fill (looked monotonous and backbreaking).

I love DIY too and I'm sure this would end well.

It's not a big deal but searching for same procedure online leads to a rabbit hole (ikennas videos on it are top result on google).

Abi is it down to our fear of sharing information or weird aversion to documentation?

I've learnt complex and very simple things online from forums and YouTube videos random people put online and things like this would help someone 10 years from now.

It's easy to criticise but let's do the hard stuff more, it would help us.

My family church (ECWA) has a fleet of about 20 406 vehicles and a couple of 607s which criss cross the country on a regular basis for church work....and na one small boy dey service all those vehicles....Not a single one has broken down on the highway..not one....and yes...a couple of them have had their gearboxes neatly swapped as the international donors sent them in with auto gearboxes
