Islam for Muslims / Re: Dreaming About My Late Dad Crying. by bindukwe(m): 6:54pm On May 08, 2020
The meaning of a dream lies with the dreamer.

What does your father represent to you?

Your father might be a version of your future self. His crying might be a result of dissatisfaction with what he is or has become.

This is deep-

It is still no excuse for the dogs among men to break their marriage vows by dipping their wayward preeks into every hole that drips moisture. And for you single ladies, stay away from people's husbands. Don't be unfortunate.

It is sad that we are living in a patriarchal society where the odds are deliberately stacked against women. What is sauce for the goose is poison for the gander. Where I come from, a cheating man can commit adultery and get away with it, but a cheating woman will endanger the lives of her husband and children if she commits same adultery and does not confess. The husband and kids may fall sick and die, or his business may suffer severe set backs if he keeps making love to her and eating her food in her unconfessed state of adultery. I don't know if it is programmed on the day of the traditional wedding or of it is an ancestral covenant with unknown deities.

Whatever it is, it just makes me mad! It is so unfair. There should be equal punishment for adulterers angry

what do you mean by patriarchal society? ( I can Google it, but I want your own meaning)
Also what makes you think the odds are stacked deliberately against women?

what do you mean by equal punishment? legally?
or the same responses to the act? - How would you achieve everyone having the same response to the act?

A face becomes appealing once it treats you well. Women mate up and across dominance hierarchies.

It's also good to know that attraction is on several levels, appealing faces or bodies is just on one level.

Your interpretation of the story isn't wrong but weak.

The story is trying to solve the problem of sacrifice/effort.
Which is: how do you conduct yourself in a situation where you know you have to act but don't know how to act?

What's the best way to organise your thinking around this problem?

If you are waiting for the world to be good to be good then you're definitely a bad person.

Your story is quite inspiring, and I'm glad things worked out for you. But encouraging people to tow your path doesn't hold sway, cos it may backfire. I know a guy who did something similar, and 10 years down the line, he is poorer than he was.

The truth is, if you can afford a flamboyant wedding, by all means, do it! This is because, weddings are memorable, and are expected to take place once in a life time.

There are three chapters in one's life:birth, marriage and death. If people celebrate births and funerals, then weddings shouldn't be less celebrated.

Nevertheless, if you can't afford a loud wedding, then opt for something small with few guests. But make it simple and classy, and don't be like the OP, cos serving his guests biscuits was in bad taste.

Being poor is one thing, planning right is another. @OP, you shouldn't have entertained your guests with biscuits,(cos I assume they were all adults). Instead, 2 mudus of rice served in take away packs could have done the magic. And if there was less money for malt, then you could have opted for zobo drinks which is cheaper and even more delicious than malt drinks.

The problem most Nigerians have when it comes to weddings is that, while they can afford to cater for only 50 guests, they end up inviting 500, just so they can have more contributions from them.

If your budget can only entertain 50 people, then plan for that number and don't end up inviting more numbers so you don't serve them biscuits just like the OP.

I love this line of reason.

Your case for weddings to be observed flamboyantly isn't strong though. It can't because those other events mentioned were observed flamboyantly, should weddings be observed in a similar manner.

There's no logical case to be built for its flamboyance. Your emotions are only taking stock of new memories dramatically.

That's on the individual level. what concerns the state is beyond that level of power.

You're not buying and selling to yourself, you're not your own economy.

Who'd have the final say in what concerns everyone? You can't operate at your fullest potential on your own, you need people.
The skills you learn isn't for yourself, its value exchanged for what you value.

That transaction has to be regulated by an independent power who will play fair to you both.
You can't be that power, because nothing stops you or the other from being unfair to each other.

Science/Technology / Re: TOI 700 D: Earth-sized Planet Found Relatively Nearby by bindukwe(m): 7:00pm On Jan 07, 2020
Bacteriologist:

Quite the opposite. According to the available evidence, the best conclusion to come to is that a lot of planets exists. We have discovered a lot of planets and so far we can only find life on Earth.

So far it is safe to say that we are alone. The only issue is that we have not even discovered up to 1% of the observable universe so it is a huge leap to conclude that life cannot exist in other planets. Because theoretically they can. Even though we have not actually observed them.

Due to the above, it is pretty obvious that we exist on ONE (out of nine) planet in ONE solar system out of a billion others in ONE galaxy out of a trillion others. If we didn't exist it wouldn't change anything. Any significance we think we have on the happenings on the Universal scale is an illusion. It just is.

And if you need a book to tell you that murder is bad or that you have to respect and be nice to people until they prove otherwise, if you need a god who has been proven to be sadistic and misogynistic and totally deprived of actual morality to tell you how to be good then you're not a good person.

I don't have a problem with that statement, my problem lies with nihilistic beliefs that grow from the statement.

Also...

Your decisions don't need to have an effect of cosmic proportions before it's considered significant.

I also never said we only need a God to be accountable, that's why we have laws.
Those laws are predicated on the belief that our actions matter. Even the God in the bible saw the usefulness of laws.

Things can quickly degenerate to lawlessness once you believe your actions are insignificant.

You need something that keeps you in check, be it God or laws. They are both useful.

Let's dissect the idea of God.
what do you think God represents in the minds of those who wrote the bible?
The highest authority there is.

Who'd would you submit too? A human with the same deficiencies as you and with the same likelihood as you to fall for temptations? Or someone above our level of temptations who has no one he answers to?

The idea of God is a a useful one. Atrocities has been committed in his name by men who believe theirs is the final authority.

You can't function adequately without value systems. You must value something or what it could offer you to pursue it. And God represents the highest value possible. He's an ideal. The most moral one who can't be judged.

And I'm speaking of God on a purely psychological level stripped off its metaphysical attributes.
Politics / Re: How US Embassy Portrays Nigeria On Its Website by bindukwe(m): 6:37pm On Jan 07, 2020
Nigeria's biggest problem is accountability.

No system is in place to hold these office holders accountable for their promises and the goods they have to deliver.

Making a hashtag trend on twitter isn't accountability either.

Our legal system is useless when it comes to cases of these nature. We need an independent agency that will work as a regulatory body for government officers.

If they make a promise, hold it to them till they deliver. And if they can't deliver they should be heavy penalties for it.

How person go dey chop that amount of salary with allowances and bribes, and not deliver anything of note to the people who employed you.
