Noooo... He did not die so you can have a bad marriage either. All I am saying is this- Look for God, and all things (and if it includes a good marriage it) shall be added unto you.

The mistake anyone will make is to go to God because he/she want a good marriage. Look for God first, He will put every other thing in place by divine logistics.
gotcha...I agree 100%

Christianity EtcRe: Joagbaje’s Miracle HIV Healing Claim Debunked by birdman(m): 12:28am On Nov 16, 2014
WinsomeX:
The discussions among Christians on nl has swayed essentially BTW to opinions: one of them is btw the Word of Faith, WoF, enthusiasts and those who advocate a relatively orthodox sort of Christian faith. The WoF crew advocate a lot of outlandish extra biblical positions, one of them being that Christians can performs signs and wonders in the same manner and frequency as the first century apostles. We on the hand do not believe this. We think that God can carry out miracles when it pleases him under his sovereign grace but our responsibility today is not pursuing miracles but preaching gospel truth, encouraging holy living among Christians and living in a responsible way as a Christians that will include working hard to make your money, taking responsible steps to safe guard our health and where that fails, we take advantage of modern medicine - a blessing from God anyway.
Speaking of outlandish things, Christians believe that a man died and rose three days later, then ascended to heaven. This is more outlandish than anything Joabaje could dream up. So the fact that wof folks, or whatever you want to call tehm believe "outlandish" things does not make them wrong. That is the true nature of the gospel.

My point? If its in the bible, you have two choices as a believer. Either the bible is true, or its not. Has Joagbaje abused the trust of many by using the bible? Yes. But the verses he based his deceit on are in the bible. So, orthodox or WOF, you still are not absolved. If Jesus healed freely, without reservation, why has it stopped today? If it is not true now, why would it be true back then?

I commend SirJohn for a job well done. I had a few run-ins with Joabaje in the past, but I chalked it up to zealotry. I would never have guessed he was a pastor, or that he could pull this off. Wether or not you knew of this scheme or were pulled into it by virtue of your zealotry, Joabgaje, you are not beyond repentance. Make things right with your creator before you worry about nairaland.

well, i dont know the circumstances nor those around him on the plane, but couldnt God intervene in such a situation and keep the plane safe till it reached its destination?

what mistakes do you think the others made that could have brought the plane down?

the investigation is still pending though.

Also, a commercial jet had earlier turned back because of the weather, that would be a potential mistake indicator I'd expect you to highlight at this time.

not saying you couldnt be right, though.
Seriously, I dont know. Some people have said its something myles munroe did, but I know full well God isnt sending his messengers and their familes to their deaths. Frankly, no one knows. And I think its irrelevant as far as Munroe and his creator are concerned.

I do know of cases where God has warned people not to board flights, or not show up to work. For example the church in the 9/11 towers did not lose a single member, even though they all worked in those buildings. Guys that were never late for work were late that morning, etc... Funny enough the pastor had been preaching on a series about hearing God's voice.

If there is anything I take away from this tragedy, its to pay closer attention. If nothing else, humility prevents me from pointing fingers anywhere. Best to take care of my own business.

ma'am, some of the "mistakes" you're referring to, are not yours but of others who you may not even know.
Hmmm. This reminds me of another preacher who was in a similar situation. He had a personal jet, and since he was trained as a pilot, often flew his own jet. One time he was transporting members of his ministry, and decided to do a weight check on the airplane, just to be sure. All planes have a weight limit, which must be balanced otherwise you can lose control of the plane in flight. During his check, he discovered, to his anger, that one of his team members had overpacked, against his instructions, causing the plane to be overloaded and likely to fail in the air! One team member's carelessness was about to take the whole ministry out. His point was simply that even a preacher in tune with God could very well be brought down by those around him, especially if that preacher is distracted and ignores God's promptings that something is awry.

Lol, trail-blazing black women these days, in terms of ground breaking achievements, not fake heroes created by the media, are a rare breed, hence it's difficult to even name one off the top. grin
You could argue the same for men. Truth is bad news or salacious news sells more, hence the kinds of characters you see achieving fame via news media. I cant count the number of real estate investors or accomplished engineers loaded with patents that are black women. Granted Im speaking from a yankee point of view, but you get the point. I can also assure you that many of the females arguing left and right on this thread will have mellowed in the next 5-10 years as they start to understand the wisdom of "less equal women" that went before them.

Heck, I'm trying to think of any black woman that has broken new grounds by achieving something ground-breaking in the last 20 years - can you please help me out cos I can't remember any? grin
its your fault if you cant think of any. you need to broaden your horizon some more wink. But I agree with some of your main points though. Embracing an euro-centric view of equality has cost a lot of fine, accomplished black women big time. Being headstrong and self centered appears glamorous on tv and magazines. In real life, its a setup for wasted potential. And unfortunately, in real life, there is no do over sad.

I wonder how it came to be that men equate strong women with disrespectful women. Or that women think that in order to be strong, you must be cantankerous and headstrong. I suspect both black men and women have imbibed more european values than we care to admit.

PoliticsRe: Latest Oil Price: $44 per Barrel - Crisis Looming by birdman(m): 3:21am On Nov 07, 2014
GenBuhari:
It could be looked at from another perspective.
Oil has been held artificially high for a number of years by the US deliberately holding back its ability to produce and sell oil in the international market and Saudi Arabia restricting its own production.

It could be argued that oil prices are just now falling closer their true level. Even now the US are still under producing for a country with one of highest oil reserves. If US decides to start producing oil at levels that it has capacity to do then, then prices could easily fall below $60/bbl
A good point. If this is indeed the case, wahala dey especially for Nigeria. I have no doubt money is already being siphoned by PDP for the next election. This is going to make them even more desperate.
PoliticsRe: Latest Oil Price: $44 per Barrel - Crisis Looming by birdman(m): 2:56am On Nov 07, 2014
Wallie:
@GenBuhari

I think your infatuation with the US is clouding your ability to see issues objectively. Just so you know the US stands to lose if the price of oil goes below $70 per barrel because the oil produced by fracking cost about $62 per barrel unlike the oil produced from Saudi Arabia that's about $32 per barrel.

I'll help you make the connections: look to the Saudi's for the declining price of oil. They are either dumping more oil in the market to force the US to slow production or trying to protect their market share. Either way, if the price of oil goes below $70 per barrel, production and investments in shale oil will dwindle because companies in the US will be making less profit and will invest elsewhere.

What's going on has absolutely nothing to do with Nigeria.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/energy/oilandgas/11207301/Brent-crude-tumbles-as-Saudi-escalates-Opec-oil-price-war.html
interesting take. i dont think that saudi strategy will work though. Cant remember where I read it, but US oil production via fracking is subsidized by the FG. The producers claim they can go as low as $30 and still be profitable shocked

Nigeria has problems like any other country but I agree with you, he is downplaying Nigeria's progress and he isn't doing anything about what he is complaining about from Australia. Theres poverty in Nigeria but downplay and disregard this news from what he doing is wrong. Also Many Nigerians besides the 1% are shopping in these malls because I have been there with family and relatives.
You dont know that for sure. He may very well be sending his earnings home to keep his family afloat, which means an equally valid viewpoint. Some people definitely can afford it, but he is right...this is not the reality on the ground for most folk. If you think having shiny malls and people willing to spend equals some kind of progress, I urge you to reconsider. I think people are taking his viewpoint personal, when there is no need to.

PoliticsRe: Latest Oil Price: $44 per Barrel - Crisis Looming by birdman(m): 5:35am On Oct 28, 2014
some people have already lost money. hedge funds that thought the bottom was at 85 are getting smacked. The true bottom is probably going to be about 75, because at that point fracking becomes unprofitable, leading to decreased supply.

Btw, the US does NOT control oil prices. People have tried to without success. No country knows exactly how this is going to end, much less control it. There are way too many players on the world scene, all trying to save themselves and canceling each other out.

Way too early to give up on D. Rose albeit I understand your frustrations are very valid as the lad has become prone to long term injuries but I am very confident he would bounce back stronger, I have followed his rehabilitation closely, from the FIBA World Cup to the preseason and I can attest to the flashes of old and a better rose, I think him and the Bulls would enjoy a very dominant season, they have a deeper bench than they did last season, I can't vouch for the quality though but I expect a very good sesason from the Bulls considering it's the eastern conference.
I am worried that in trying to recover, he may have overtrained, and we could very well see a stress related injury mid season. Same goes for Kobe. Bulls do have a deep team this year, but Thiboudeau is known for having a short rotation and overworking them.
