PoliticsRe: ACN Releases List Of Merger Committee by birdman(m): 7:52am On Jan 21, 2013
ekt_bear: Why on earth would you release the committee name publicly? Shouldn't stuff like this be kept private?
Better to introduce yourself than let your enemy do it for you. Keeping it private would play into PDP's hands. The more open the process, the harder it is for PDP to bribe a faction or manufacture stories as they have done in the past.

cap28: this trash does not belong on a nigerian forum because majority of nigerian men do not think like that, some of the posts being put up on NL have absolutely no bearing on nigerian society because the nigerian value system and culture is totally different from waht applies in the west, therefore to post these type of posts in my view is a complete and utter waste of time.

TravelRe: When Going Back To Nigeria Is A Death Sentence: The Story Of Rose Akhalu by birdman(m): 4:30am On Jan 21, 2013
pDude: My children will never have the opportunity to ask me, "Daddy, when everybody was hustling and relocating abroad, where were you?" by the grace of God.

Nigeria is a sad and hopeless place.
I pity anyone who thinks about Nigeria like this. Opportunity shows itself best in chaos. Yes, I know people who have died of ailments that could have been detected if they were abroad. But I also know many more that actually hustled through the system, have decent jobs, at least one house and a couple of cars all bought and paid for. Some even have enough dough left over to send kids to school abroad.

Sorry for derailing the thread. Isnt there a way ppl can contribute money for these type of operations?

@^^ I understand your reticence/reservations but Rossike's reasoning on the topic is not wrong and he is not saying that we bend over backwards for "abuse" either.
Any relationship between the "weak" and the "strong" will always be fraught with inherent "dangers". Can we generally say that our long "romance" with the "West" have yielded "desired" or "favourable" results whatever we mean by that? I guess that our desires/wants are for "materials" or tangible investments that will impact on the majority of our people far more than what we see around us now undecided. Nobody on this forum believes that the Chinese are altruistic let alone because they are in love with us either wink grin.
As for your nos:1-3 reasons, whose fault is it that we cannot get our "act" together? I do not hold our so called "leaders" wholly responsible for our inherent lack of cohesiveness or general lack of discipline but everyone of us have some responsibility to do the right thing. Is that not what civic responsibility is all about? Bro, we cannot blame others for our inherent laziness or stupidity. It's not pretty nor sexy whichever way we look at it. Rossike is right to be optimistic and positively cautious I guess.
I agree "positively cautious" is good way to approach the situation for sure. By the way, I would prefer stronger intra west african trade as our primary means of foreign investment over east or west, but I guess that really isnt practical yet.

@^^ Whose fault is it that the so called majority "indigenes" of the countries mentioned above are inherently lazy, corrupt and indisciplined compared to the Chinese, Jews, Parsi(Persians)? Bro, I understand your reservations/reticence but values and culture are what shapes/builds cohesive societies/nations. Pervasive "Corruption" is but a symptom of a larger malaise facing Africans everywhere.
Thank you. You have hit the nail squarely on the head. Has our culture changed? Has the culture and values which exposed us to exploitation from the west changed? If it hasnt, why do we expect that our engagement with the Chinese will be different than it was with the West. They are here for business, not charity.

1. Leaders who will sell out Nigerians for a bribe at every influential position. Check.
2. Deep seated tribalism that prevents us from coming together and electing competent people. Check.
3. Low level of civic duty where we dont really care when injustice is done to others, as long as we escape. Check.

This is why Rossike's optimism bothers me.
PoliticsRe: Obasanjo Warns Against Another Civil War! by birdman(m): 8:07am On Jan 17, 2013
obi4eze: There'll be no civil war in Nigeria. There are genuine Christians that pray for this country night and day.
Faith without works is dead. What actionable steps are these Christians taking to prevent civil war. Or are they just attending all nights, hoping Angel Malachi or some other entity will come down and do the hard work for them.
FoodRe: The Most Sadistic Dishes From Around The World. by birdman(m): 7:58am On Jan 17, 2013
thoth: I sincerely believe that you are the one trying to confuse issues. We are talking about FOOD nothing else but FOOD! That is not sport and no body is enjoying scalping monkeys here since the whole purpose is to eat it and not to watch it die.
You hunter analogy is monumentally flawed in that no matter the kind of weapon that is being used the basic measurement of babary is the amount of pain the animal was put through before it lost consciousness. What if the hunter shot it in the loins or the abdomen puncturing the ribcage ? It would still die though after lots of pain and your Stup.i.d hunter has to watch.
I dont believe that these dishes are popular just because of the taste. You cannot ignore the sadism involved in several of these dishes. If it was just about food, even the killing of chicken would be thread worthy. So its much more than just about food. My hunter has already ignored your attempt at an insult.

Foreign AffairsRe: China Is Better For Africa Than The West by birdman(m): 7:38am On Jan 17, 2013
ROSSIKE: You sound terribly ignorant. How exactly will the Chinese "take over Africa"? Take over how? Rule us how? I mean if you've nothing to contribute just zip it. As for what they've "done for Nigeria", why not start with the railways? Did your American or German masters offer to build railways in all their years of dealing with us?
Ask the native Malay, Thai and a couple other ethnic groups in the area, who have minority Chinese families virtually controlling the finance of their native lands, while keeping that power in a small cabal from generation to generation very successfully.
Foreign AffairsRe: China Is Better For Africa Than The West by birdman(m): 7:34am On Jan 17, 2013
ROSSIKE: So they have the capacity to cause mayhem in India and Pakistan but not in Ghana or Zambia, correct? Makes perfect sense.
Yes it does. Its simply geopolitics. Your sphere of influence (political, military, economic) decreases with distance, and you need more resources (money, people, threat of war) to keep up your influence over larger distances. That is why a much smaller weaker Russia can still exert their influence in the Baltic states, but nowhere else. And its why the US can flog Haiti and Jamaica (Haitians no vex for me o), but it has to engage Ghana and Nigeria respectfully. Of course, if we follow your lead, its only a matter of time before we become a Malaysia to China. All our finance and industry will be bought into a few Chinese families.

FXKing2012: Sorry to tell u u really didnt make any good points here. @thoth never said the monkeys were killed just for the fun of watching the animals die; the monkeys were killed for food with the brain eaten first.
I'm sure the rest of the body will be used for meat and hide somewhere along the chain.

People are funny: simply because they dont eat monkey brain so they wanna condemn those eating it.

Anyways, it's human nature to condemn those different from you. It's the same reason the Nazi condemned the Jews to death; the whites condemned the black Africans to slavery; the medieval Spanish Christians condemned the Mexican traditional worshippers to death; the muslims condemn non-muslims to death in different parts of the world, etc etc.
So I'm not surprised when people condemn those who dared to be different - it's just human nature.
My post is within the context of this thread, not just about monkey brains. But carry on, I'm sure brain tastes delicious
FoodRe: The Most Sadistic Dishes From Around The World. by birdman(m): 12:36am On Jan 16, 2013
thoth: FXKing2012 whom i believe has better knowledge of the basic mammal anatomy and works of the nervous system has put it plain enough for you to understand. If i am to repeat albeit in the form of a question i would like to ask you - knocking the monkey out and cutting its throat(letting it bleed out and spasm for tens of minutes, having it wriggle in your hands in pain as it tries to save himself from the painful agony knife injury, having blood fill its larynx and drowning in its own blood while struggling to gulp for air) which one is more babaric ? The former lasts just a fraction of a second and the beast looses its sense of pain and the later lasts for tens of minutes amids struggle between the killer and the monkey as the brain is still alive and registers fear,PAIN AND ANXIETY. Do you know why their are more blood spurts in more intelligent mammals like monkey than other beasts ? Because the heart rate increases due to fear and anxiety which the animal experiences.
Now who is more babaric ?
You are confusing issues here. For example, a hunter killing a deer with a high powered rifle would be the least barbaric according to your definition, since the deer would die instantly. However, if that hunter killed the animal for sport, then the hunter is more barbaric, regardless of the method he has chosen. Why? Because he inflicted needless pain and enjoyed it.

That IS the point. Inflicting pain for the purpose of enjoyment, not for food or any other reason. And I wonder about people who enjoy such things - what will thay do to humans when no one is looking, say in a war situation.
Foreign AffairsRe: China Is Better For Africa Than The West by birdman(m): 12:21am On Jan 16, 2013
Rossikk: What I like about China is that they're not interested in sending 'aid' and other such tricks developed by the west to siphon our wealth. Neither are they interested in our politics or how we choose to govern ourselves. Nor are they interested in funding rebel groups to overthrow 'unfriendly' governments in Africa and impose kleptocratic puppets. They operate by strict codes of business partnership and nothing else. You can't ask for more than that to be honest.
Wrong on both counts. They just dont have the capacity to do so yet. They already employ this method against India on two fronts to keep them busy (Funding Pakistan and separatist groups in India). Business wise, bribery and underhanded tactics is fair game. As someone who follows Chinese stocks and analysis, I am constantly amazed at the brazen tales of corruption, that makes Nigeria look like a saint. For you to think that such businessmen will suddenly turn honest while dealing with you is crazy. If you want a honest business partner, look in the mirror. No one is responsible for you but you

ekt_bear: More info on how the Marines do it here: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/marines/l/blfitmale.htm
The marines version is actually easier. Extending your arms fully at the end of a rep (as their manual suggests) allows your arms to take a break and recover. If you want even better results, you arms should be about almost extended fully at the end of one rep, but not quite. The idea is you get the full range of motion, but still keep you arms under stress as you start the next rep. Still 10 reps is nothing to sneeze at whichever way you do it.

thoth: there is no difference between cracking the skull when it is alive and cracking it when it is "dead" it all means killing it, whether you killed it by cracking the brain or by cutting its throat you still acomplished the same thing which is taking the life out of it. Unless you are against killing animals i don't see the point of your arguments. Please don't call me sick you pretentious dumb hypocrite.
The torture of the animal while alive is part of the experience. This is what makes it barbaric. It is one think to kill for food. It is another thing to kill for fun, enjoying the animals suffering while eating eat. Kai! even the wildest of beasts does not do this.

Foreign AffairsRe: China Is Better For Africa Than The West by birdman(m): 5:15am On Jan 15, 2013
Rossikk: Well spoken bro. But it's an unbeatable arrangement - resources for infrastructure. Africa's resources are virtually inexhaustible. Guaranteed to last over the next 1,000 years. Once we develop the necessary infrastructural base to make the technological leap, we would be in a good place.
Reminds me of Gowon claiming our problem was not money. It was how to spend it. No resource is inexhaustible. We act like it though and unless we stop depending on others to develop us, we will remain at the bottom of the barrel permanently. We arent getting a fair deal from China right now, so whats all the celebration about undecided

FamilyRe: Divorce Settlement And Child-Support Be Introduced In Nigeria? by birdman(m): 4:29am On Jan 15, 2013
Before you take someone's advice you should see how well it has worked in their life. Do we really want a society with >50% divorce rate, generation after generation growing up in single parent homes, trying to stave off depression, loneliness and anxiety with record number of pills? The only thing poor African countries have going for them is a stable family culture. That is why as bad as Nigeria's situation is, we are still producing stable, well brought up and well educated people, making their mark all over the world. Contrast that with our brothers over the atlantic who have >50% divorce rate. At this point, only a miracle can heal the damage, and even they know it.

I know lots of men abuse the system, but it is a small portion of the whole. We would be stupid to throw the few good things we have left just so we can "belong".
