Christianity EtcRe: Man Sues Chris Okotie For Owing Him 14 Years Salary by birdman(m): 9:10am On Dec 09, 2012
Jimbadly: Okotie is doing more damage to his already tarnished image as a pastor. One controversy after another. From divorce to having a child out of wedlock to fleecing his congregation just to fuel his ostentatious lifestyle, etc. The matter would never have deteriorated to this extent had Okotie been humble enough to pacify Okiotor at the initial stages. It clearly shows the arrogance of some ''men of God'' who should be role models to their followers. They do the exact opposite of what Jesus stood for. Perhaps he thought he can call the bluff of Okioto, a lowly church rat who can't do nothing. Well he's been dragged to court, lets see how he gets out of this without parting with a huge sum of money and soiling his image the more.
Why wont he be arrogant? Did you see what the mugu called TechWriter posted? Can you blame Okotie for taking advantage of people who refuse to think? A fool and his money are easily parted.
PoliticsRe: Will Not Nigeria Come To The Aid Of Her Somali Brethren? by birdman(m): 6:30am On Dec 04, 2012
PrevailPeace :
Brothers,

Can Nigeria be safe with a Somalia controlled by Islamists harboring her enemies? Boko Haram is now causing you a great deal of heartache, imagine the calamity that would ensue if their ilk controlled an entire nation from which they could launch devastating attacks all across the motherland? There is now a great struggle in Somalia, between pan-African secularists who wish to see a secure and stable Somalia that is a loyal son of Africa, and Arab worshiping Islamists who wish Africa nothing but death and destruction. Nigeria, the pride of Africa, must throw her support behind the AU efforts in Somalia to eliminate completely all Arab funded radical groups and help establish upon the land of your East African brothers a strong secular state that is friend of your people. This is in the best long term interests of All of Africa.

What say you?
I like how countries that rubbish us start to sing our praises when they need our help. If the Kenyan army right next to you plus drones cant help, I doubt Nigeria would be able to do better - we do have to overcome the logistics of ferrying supplies and men all the way to east africa, at our own cost. I also think BH is homegrown, and can be dealt with, if we have better leadership. Btw, knowing how proud Somalis are, you can be sure they will kick us out as soon as they feel they dont need us.
CultureRe: The Mystery Of The Idemili Culture!!! by birdman(m): 5:44am On Dec 04, 2012
Just to clarify btw, Christianity is NOT the white man's religion. They came upon it, just like other peoples did, and some hijacked it for political purposes. But the core of the message is essentially African. The trinity, Jesus birth and resurrection, etc have been in several African "pagan" religions, long before the historical Christ of the Bible. It doesn't make all of the Bible untrue, it just means you need to apply wisdom when meditating on it. Similarly, folks, please use the same wisdom with every other African religion you come across. Just because your ancestors thought it was a good idea to worship an animal does not mean you must do the same. Our ancestors were not omniscient (neither are you), and some of the practices they engaged in, in ignorance, are deadly.

Furthermore, the said python may decide to pay a "friendly" visit every now and then. ekt_bear: I had a conversation about this with my mom and some other family members.

And realized that basically I was being a little bit of a b1tch about things.

Who on earth complains about getting a first job that pays $lol/year in salary?

Also, driving into a major city last night for an event, I saw a very big billboard for this company. I'm probably just underrating their prestige a bit.

Long story short, there are more important things I should be worrying about in life.
this is a mature way of looking at things. Congrats...btw, I wouldnt publish salary details online. You never know how it can come back to bite you.
PoliticsRe: NL Political Dialogue Nov 2012: STATE POLICE - ARE WE READY FOR IT? by birdman(m): 6:59am On Nov 25, 2012
Sagewood: Nigeria is NOT ready for the State Police system. Corruption, poverty and illiteracy are still
at unacceptable levels.
It will lead to excessive abuse of power, extra- judicial killings and be used as a political
tool to further the agenda of the State Governor. It will certainly become the
vigilante arm of the state government.
The current federal police system is NOT perfect, but it will suffice for now.
The greatest threat to an efficient and robust Nigeria police force is corruption,
and lack of accountability at all levels.
Just like every facet of the Nigerian life or government, corruption pervades the air.
Don't expect the Nigeria police force (NPF) to improve soon, except every other aspect of
government makes progress. The NPF does not exist in isolation, the whole country have to
improve and develop together.
I like how the end-all-be-all answer is always "Nigeria is not ready". If this is the case, isnt it a good idea to revisit the terms of the country and see if we should restructure it fundamentally? It seems like the whole thing was built as an impediment to progressive ideas. I suspect those against state police know this is where the issue is really going.
Christianity EtcRe: Do You Realise The Bible Was Compiled via A VOTE In Constantine's Palace? by birdman(m): 8:46am On Nov 19, 2012
bolayei: the books in the bible are accurate accounts of events but some other books where omitted for certain reasons. books like the gospel of Judas and paul, the gospel of Mary magdalene. some omisions from the books we know today, some omissions about sorcery, women and even the story of the virgin mary was omitted and the fact that Eve was not the first woman and who cain married and how men and women are equal since woman was created sametime as adam from dust and not from his ribs. The truth is if you dig into christainity you will find out alot of things but at the sametime you will understand why constantine ordered for the book to be compiled by the bishop at that time
You are mixing up issues. Some of those omissions are legit. For example, the story of eve not being the first woman was cooked up by jewish mystics very late in the game. It obviously smacks of quackery. I agree that the bible as we have it today is very political, but it is up to a reader to figure out how to interpret what he reads. There is some good stuff in there still.
CareerRe: Great Job At A Company With An "Uncool" Brand? by birdman(m): 8:23am On Nov 19, 2012
Sammy107_d: My point is that you're unlikely to last more than a year on your first job. Consequently, your primary thinking should be how you'll be positioned for your next job. Think long-term. Entry-level pay cannot diverge that radically. You're young, and location should be a non-issue. Long-term bro. A 6month stint as 'debugger' (whatever that is) at Facebook Inc. on your cv will position you better than a year as an 'Interface developer' at freakin' Myspace inc. What's your business with financial position. Leave that for wall street analysts.
Lasting less than 1 year at your first job is a red flag to employers. You should generally plan to be in one spot for about 3 years. Anyhow, I think ekt is pretty young, so he can afford one or two early career hits grin

CareerRe: Great Job At A Company With An "Uncool" Brand? by birdman(m): 6:38am On Nov 19, 2012
ekt_bear: But I'm already a huge snob when it comes to brands. And the comments of these friends of mine doesn't make me feel better about it.
Have you tried comparing both on glassdoor? That is a good start. You want to check what other people have to say about the company, if possible. The reason is, brand names, along with "best place to work" rankings have more to do with marketing and HR savvy, and usually do not reflect actual working conditions. There are lots of "cool" brand companies that are absolute sh**holes to work in and this could be a killer for your career.

In short: Pray about it and go with what gives you the most peace. From your post, it looks like company A. Forget about all that cool stuff - its a mirage and you wont care a decade from now.

I guess this is a lesson for folks trying to make Nigeria better, especially those that live abroad. Now you know why things never really change, even though you keep hearing Nigerians whine and praying to God all day.

Many tribal champions are not embracing their culture out of the goodness of their heart - sometimes it is out of insecurity and selfishness. And when there are no more perceived enemies, they turn on their own. I hope this potentially 30 page episode does not deter other Nigerian Americans from reaching out to be of help. Just be wise about who you associate with. Just because someone speaks your native language does not make them your brother/sister.

LOL. This squares with what I've seen so far. White women are just more savvy about their baggage. The only reason men stick with it is the cost of divorce usually means loss of all you saved up. Oddly, European women seem be more grounded and easier to get along with, even behind closed doors.

Foreign AffairsHurricane Sandy Fallout: Neigbors Refuse To Help Woman With Drowning Kids by birdman(op):
Police searching for two young brothers who were ripped from their mother's arms during Superstorm Sandy have found their bodies. The remains of Brandon, two, and Connor Moore, four, were discovered only yards from where they went missing in Staten Island, New York. The boys' mother Glenda Moore, 39, is said to have spent 12 hours screaming in the street after they were swept away, but residents would not help her look for them. The boys were sucked away by floodwater after Mrs Moore's car stalled and became stuck just before 6pm on Monday near the 400-block of Fr. Capodanno Boulevard in South Beach. Mrs Moore, a nurse, tried to hold on to them but was overpowered by the force of the storm.

Police found the young brothers about 30 yards off the corner of McLaughlin Street and Father Capodanno Boulevard. 'Terrible, absolutely terrible,' police commissioner Ray Kelly said. 'It just compounds all the tragic aspects of this horrific event.' The boys were about 20 yards apart from each other, under water, buried by trees and debris, law enforcement sources told the New York Post. After the storm cleared on Tuesday morning, officers, dogs and other searchers - armed with shovels, sticks and pitchforks - had been scouring those marshlands off Father Capodanno. A team of scuba divers were also there to search the marshy area. At 10:15am today, police in wetsuits found Brandon waist-deep in water. His brother was found close by shortly after. After the boys disappeared, Mrs Moore knocked on a nearby door for help but was told: 'I don't know you. I'm not going to help you.'

Mrs Moore then tried another neighbor near her Staten Island home, but when she rang the bell they turned off the lights and refused to answer. As the storm raged around her, the nurse took shelter in a doorstep, screaming and staring at the waters which had just snatched away her children. Twelve hours later, at dawn when the weather calmed down, she found the strength to walk down the street and flag down a passing police car to raise the alarm. Her cousin Nancy Jean, 41, fought back tears as she described the ordeal. 'I can’t believe the way she was treated by the people she went to for help,' she said. 'The first person she knocked on, she begged them and said: "Please call 911". 'They told her: "I don't know you" and closed the door. She tried another door but they turned the lights off.

‘I can’t imagine what she was thinking then. She sat down for 12 hours and was just screaming. She was out of it. When it got to morning she went and found a police car and told him what happened.’ A friend of the mother who lost two young sons to Superstorm Sandy today urged the public to 'keep them in your prayers, they're going to need it'. The woman said Glenda Moore is 'in pain, she's hurting' after the death of Connor, four, and Brandon, two when their car was hit by a giant wave. The woman, who was dressed in black, was speaking outside the home of Mrs Moore's mother Maria in the Kensington neighbourhood of Brooklyn, New York. Asked about the boys, the friend said: 'They were joyful, they were very happy. They were very good kids'.

When MailOnline knocked on the door a female relative with a Jamaican accent opened a first floor window and said: 'We're not saying anything'. Other relatives could be seen entering the semi detached $200,000 home and breaking down in tears as they were given hugs. Mrs Moore’s aunt, who declined to give her name, also told the New York Daily News: ‘They answered the door and said, "I don't know you. I'm not going to help you". ‘My sister's like 5ft 3in, 130 pounds. She looks like a little girl. She's going to come to you and you're going to slam the door in her face and say, "I don't know you, I can't help you"?' The aunt also said Mrs Moore told her she was knocked into the freezing waters herself by the power of the storm. ‘She was holding on to them, and the waves just kept coming and crashing and they were under. ‘It went over their heads… She had them in her arms, and a wave came and swept them out of her arms. ‘She [Mrs Moore] said she got shoved, and then the wave just took the car and flipped it over. She was knocked down.’

My blame goes more to the Whiteman who took it upon himself to "crate" "one" Nigeria. Unfortunately, Nigeria was never one, is not one and will never be one.

As for your "truth", the fact still remains that this was the opinion of a distant outsider who wrote from his perspective.

CultureRe: Are Black Women Realy Always Angry? by birdman(m): 9:26am On Nov 03, 2012
Denise216: African American women didn't get the "angry" tag until they started identifying with being "Black" only. Around the late 60s or so Black men started becoming abrasive and hostile, basically equating Blackness with a permanent temper tantrum. Black women wanting to prove their solidarity took on that persona and its been downhill since. AA men are still angry but can be easily placated with money or sex, even under obvious racial conditions (selling drugs, making ridiculous music, etc.) Prior to the late 60's AA women maintained a separate identity and platform that allowed them to be seen as virtuous women even in the face of savage behavior from white and AA men. So the skin and feature thing was never an issue, being closely identitifed as "Black" according to black men is what set their femininity back.
When you buy into the angry stereotype, black men and women end up blaming each other, conjuring false ideas as you just did, and then turn on each other. Little wonder the concept of a healthy functioning black family itself has taken a hit. Think people, and stop throwing stones at your own house.

Btw, just because DL Hughely is black doesnt mean he speaks for the same, or has our best interests in mind.
