CultureRe: Reincarnation In Yorubaland by birdman(m): 3:11am On Jan 14, 2013
ifyalways: @topic, I can only comment on the "Abiku" mythology.

Science provided an explanation ; sickle cell anaemia.

The idea that a certain child can die and keep re-coming back to life is just what it is :bedtime fable.
You are suggesting that every child that has been labeled abiku had sickle cell? I doubt this. Also, they usually get reborn into the same family and die over and over again. Could there be some genetic explanation? Maybe, but given how little we know of the afterlife, except that one probably exists, I dont think we can chuck this up to sickle cell.

I personally dont believe it either, but I dont have enough evidence so give a definitive yes or no.

Btw pagan_nja abeg stop derailing the thread. Push your agenda on your own thread.
Christianity EtcRe: Yoruba Christians Are Not As Fanatical, I Noticed by birdman(m): 2:07am On Jan 14, 2013
I dont see any difference between Yoruba and Igbo when it comes to flamboyant christianity. Aladura may not be flamboyant, but they are definitely nuisances with loud prayers at night, littering the beach with candles and stuff, etc
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Wont Break Up - Jonathan by birdman(m): 1:47am On Jan 14, 2013
The fact that Jonathan just said it means the opposite is very likely.
CrimeRe: Men, Please Don't Rape by birdman(m): 3:30am On Jan 11, 2013
I read the whole article. Bawdy jokes and cat calling women may be out of taste, but I dont see how it even comes close to encouraging rape. Plus the article is offensive. Saying "Men please dont rape" is like saying "Blacks, please dont steal"
CultureRe: Fire Razes Alaafin Of Oyo’s Palace by birdman(m): 3:16am On Jan 11, 2013
ifyalways: ^ really? Thanks.

Is that the general Yoruba word/term or is it like an Ogbomosho dialect?
Ayaba would be a merging of Aya Oba, so I doubt its specific to any one dialect - I am not from Oyo and we still use the term. I'm sure some Yoruba language warrior can clear that up definitively cheesy

Did I hit a nerve? Good. Next step is to turn this righteous anger of yours on the abuser of your people.
PoliticsRe: Why Do We Like Insulting GOODLUCK JONATHAN by birdman(m): 4:27am On Jan 10, 2013
engrtee: d with some degree of amusement, the wave of criticism and outrage that greeted the ill-timed ignition of President Goodluck Jonathan....i admit he hasnt lived up to expectation, i dont think he deserves such insult. He is not the worst president yet he is the most insultd. This is an abuse of fredom of speech
Nobody wants a mumu for a leader. even more annoying is how he tries to act like tough guy, blackmailing and beating up on small time journalists who cant fight back.
RomanceRe: Would You Agree To Date Someone Who Speaks Bad Of Your People? by birdman(m): 4:23am On Jan 10, 2013
SeunPlus: Thanks for your opinion. I don't blame anyone for pouring the insults on me. I created the thread and it was used as an avenue for bashing on me. I've seen thread that are so deep and personal than this, meanwhile I see people who are reasonable giving their opinion and i'm not left out in contributing to the issue. I wouldn't have mentioned the gentleman's name if not for the NLders mentality, that any issue posted by Seunplus is directed at Eze P. I know I made the mistake in my first thread, i even requested the thread to be hidden. Promoe does not say anything bad about me or my people. I just raised the topic because I felt it would be ideal not to be left out in ignorance during this period of freedom of information. You guys have just created this impression in me that NL is a home-breaker. Sexkillz and Idowuogbo, thanks for your harsh use of words.
If you significant other is denigrating your people, Im sorry but you dont have a home to start with.

Maybe she is just pretending? After marriage she may decide to go "deeper life" on you. I think thats the op's point.

Id think artifacts would be better kept undecided. Btw Ayaba would mean queens, or wives of the king
CultureRe: Ifa Is Not Evil, but A Source Of Spiritual & Social Knowledge by birdman(m): 3:38am On Jan 10, 2013
ifyalways: I'm not Yoruba but I believe Ifa is a religion, just like voodoo.
Any reason why you think this? I havent seen anything that even makes Ifa look like a religion. It looks more like a system of divination with numerology than anything else.

Andre Uweh: I'd like to write a book about Mr Osewa someday. He is so lenient, so forgiven and a good sportsman. He listens to the wishes of forumites and treats everyone equally.
In his own website, posters have regularly insulted him yet he has not banned them for eternity. Where in this world has such happened?.
I think Seun was created by Chukwu on a Sunday.
Obviously, at half your age, he already shows more maturity than you ever will.
FamilyRe: Should I Stop Helping Anyone Living In Nigeria? by birdman(m): 5:28am On Jan 07, 2013
bigheart2013: Please does anyone have the same experience as me?

1.I’ve opened three different business outfits in Nigeria (a business center, digital photo lab, transport biz with 4 buses) that all wound down due to theft, dishonesty and fraud by employees.

2.I have helped about 5 unemployed relatives in Nigeria to start businesses either by loaning them money or shipping them goods to sell. Once they got the money/goods they started the usually cock and bull stories and excuses. Today we are all enemies because they either can’t or refused to pay back.

3.My old uncle I trusted to help me fence my house in Nigeria ( a pastor) turned it into a private business; he used N2mil to fence one plot of land in the village.

4.I recommended a graduate female friend for employment at a friend’s company at Lagos, she embezzled the company’s funds and bolted away. My friend now views me with contempt.

5.The last straw is that my own 24yrs old little sister (unemployed graduate) has abandoned a business I just started for her and followed a mere boy who has no job and not even a place of his own, yet promising to marry her. She’s now at war with me.

In all I’ve lost over $350,000 dollars in the past five years trying to help one person or the other in Nigeria. I am considering a resolution to have a ‘blanket’ shutdown (no texts, no calls, no emails) never to help anyone living in Nigeria with finance again but my girlfriend is a Christian and keeps preaching to me to forgive and keep doing good for the sake of God. What’s your own experience helping people living in Nigeria and how did you avoid this type of situations? I live in the USA now.
Honestly, your case looks hopeless. You lost 350K, and still need advice from Nairaland? This has nothing to do with God. You are an idi0t

tpia@:
What he's doing is disguised as pacification but in actual fact, he's just trying to get his bread buttered.

It all boils down to plain cash.

Same goes for the jargon the other fellow is typing blah blah about enforcing rules, yakkety yak, so people will think that's why they placed him there.

Its all one big crime related enterprise.
You harsh o grin
Nairaland GeneralRe: Congrats Afam4eva! by birdman(m): 6:13pm On Jan 01, 2013
Seun: I know about his pro-Igbo bias. I think we need a little bit of that to achieve balance. I expect him to be an advocate of Igbos to a certain extent, but I also expect him to conduct his duties as a moderator without any tribal bias, because he knows that there are many Nairaland members who are ready to take his place if he messes up, and I won't hesitate to appoint them.
Based on how this has worked out in our nation, this sounds like a really bad idea. Choose upstanding people regardless of ethnicity and let the chips fall where they may instead of letting a small vocal minority dictate policy. What you have done here is pacification, and it will encourage more bad behavior

olu4life: Na wa for all of una o. IMO ooo,all this na witch dey do am. The one i've experienced is what we christians call TRANCE which is a gift from the Holy Spirit. Another one i know rarely happens to me is when i am seriously sick. My sensory becomes very sharp and i can hear thoughts all around me but not coming from those in the physical world. I so hate that moment
If there is a fourth dimension, it exists wether you believe it or not. I really dont agree with everything ROSSIKE is saying as much of the evidence is anecdotal. Still a rational person would consider the evidence.

ROSSIKE: You're wrong. In actual fact, many NDE experiencers HAVE reported observing 'all sides' of objects including buildings.

In a well documented NDE account by Mellen-Thomas Benedict, he stated:

''I woke up about 4:30 am and I knew that this was it. I was going to die. I called a few friends and said good-bye. I woke up Anne and made her promise that my dead body would remain undisturbed for six hours, since I had read that all kinds of interesting things happen when you die. I went back to sleep. The next thing I remember, I was fully aware and standing up. Yet my body was lying in the bed. I seemed to be surrounded by darkness, yet I could see every room in the house, and the roof, and even under the house.''

Interesting. Looks like the expected 4d experience, Thanks for sharing the link

We're not talking about ''watching a 10 dimensional object''. We're talking of observing a 10 dimensional universe. Massive difference.[/quote]Eh, same thing. I suspect the human mind would get bored with a 10 dimensional universe eventually.
Christianity EtcRe: Would You Remain An Atheist In The Face Of Death? by birdman(m): 3:37am On Jan 01, 2013
Seun: I doubt it, I've been an atheist for too long to have any reasonable doubts.

But I would not look down on an atheist/agnostic who decided to "embrace God" at the last moment. Death must be a very hard thing to face, and it's not my place to quarrel with a dying person's choice of how to cope with it. Let's not forget that atheism is not a religion!
At your age, I doubt you have enough life experiences to be committed to any school of thought. This also applies to christians/muslims etc btw. Like one old man said, by the time you start to figure out what life is all about, its almost over.
