I have to sandfill a plot of land beside a river, the soil is terrible and gets swampy at times.

For the first layer of fill, i intend to use some sharp sand from the river properly tied in sacks to achieve about 500mm layer.

What do you guys think

There's a kind of black mud gotten from mangrove sites, you can use that to fill your >500mm allow to stabilize and back fill again with sharp sand. Guess you don't intend planning on using the land soon.

Can anyone practically say the amount of Hot water that is used on a daily basis in a typical Nigerian household?

For example do people typically require hot water for bathing daily or for cooking etc. reason for my question is I see a lot of houses installed water heater in each bathroom but hardly get a chance to use these due to lack of electricity or these were not installed properly from the start and hence its just an expensive decor for the bathroom.

Personally I don't think we make use of hot water so much as to warrant a dedicated heater for each bathroom. I am looking a installing Evacuated solar tubes to get free heating from the sun rather than using electricity for heating, on the flip side if the electricity is readily available, it might not be such a bad idea as the boiling will be on an adhoc basis.

I would ideally want to know if I want to implement Solar heating Tubes as this will determine the type of roof design, I will definitely be using solar for all the lighting at the minimum.

Kindly enlighten us about this solar heating tubes workability

There is no known health risk towards using the underneath of a staircase.

In that particular design you don't need ventilation for its purpose which will be up to the client.
A cabinet of whatever size can fit in there and your design preference depends on its usage.

Construction Engineering is an interesting field. A couple of things are still debatable and still arguable.
Just be sure to do what is not below the acceptable and what will stand the test of time.
In my recent build I see no reason to use a dpm all around before doing the flooring on the build but will apply it only on the lounge section because its a step down due to my daily observations.


I call this build an Eco - build because i'm using coarse sand as the main aggregate apart from sharp sand.

Clients and Roofers, if you intend using longspan or step tiles inform your carpenter before hand so you don't bad mouth someone's product..

Building plan says estimated size of building is 167 sqm and d DPC level must be +450 (dunno what that means). It has 23 box pillars and 3 round pillars. Pls cost estimate must include quality material as I want to eliminate all forms of rising damp and penetrating damp. Thx a million.

To also ease your time, you can inform whoever did the design plan to meet up your request.

Lastly, get the services of an Engineer who you intend to give the job to do it for you.
