aonag: i dont have this experience on this scale. i have made bulk orders online from China and had them imported via air but thats different from going there myself and buying items myself. its still in consideration phase as i am thinking of the modalities e.g consolidating different good from different manufacturers, logistics to the container location and most especially shipping costs to the final point of consolidation into the container and also if the container space has to be paid for in the prriod in ehich its taking in all these goods till its filled up. my parents were importers and have experience but they mainly bought from one manufacturer. i would have to talk to my mum about this. Buying from different manufacturers isn't much of a problem. Just know the shipping company address you intend using. As you buy from each manufacturer you can tell them which company is handling the shipping. They will package and send it to the company with your details on it. You may likely pay some extra for that. But since you'll be there, be sure your goods are packaged well and you can monitor some of the activities. Some might be stressful but its worth it. Your goods are cost per line in the container and that's what you'll be charged for. Happy shopping in the east. |

gbadexy: The pop powder is replaced with portland cement to be used to mix the pop emulsion paint to form a paste. Some topbond or other brand name variety of it is best added to the paint to reduce the risk of cracking. like 1litre of the bond to 1 drum of pop emulsion paint. While acrylic based paint is the best type of paint in all type of paints, experience has shown that addition of some pva based topbond type binders helps to minimize possibility of cracking due to it slowing down the drying rate of the screeding plaster on the wall after application. Cracking is caused when the plaster doesn't have time to shrink uniformly due to drying. The top dries faster than the under. but adding top bond slows it to allow more uniform drying due to its alcohol content which has affinity for water. Okay. Is it possible to get this same acrylic based pop emulsion paint in any other colour apart from the white/off white colour it is, as a production specialist? Thanks |

gbadexy: We did discuss on this thread the advantages of cement screeding over the regular pop cement and paint screeding. I was of the opinion cement screeding is better but not used much because of its slower drying and setting, hence why contractors that want to hurriedly leave one site for other jobs don't favor it. like I mentioned then, it's stronger, smoother and the slow setting ensures there is no wastage of materials. In gypsum screeding, after 10 to 15 minutes, the paste becomes too stiff to use and has to be scraped off the bowl. Even mixing in small quantities doesn't totally prevent this but significantly minimizes it. Here is a link to the building of our own hajj muftau where cement screeding was done: https://www.nairaland.com/4453773/painting-pictures-hajji-mufutaus-kobo-kobo
I assume this should remove doubt about the feasibility of cement screeding for internal and external screeding. If I may ask, how is the cement mixing done Is it just cement alone and what's the price per Sqm? |

skelefish: Is this dredging sand different from the regular sharp sand? Can u put your numbers of tyre per tons. e.g 6tyre = 5tons. 20=so so tons. Thanks. 6tyre falls between 10 -15 tons depending on bucket size and sand loading. Dredging sand in my area in the lay man's terms does not really have "teeth". So depending on your location and cost implication, some of us use "diving sand"(local mining). |

Walins: if am to mode a block hw much will it cost and hw will I calculate it You will have to find out the price in your area but in my area its a bag at #700. Types of aggregate material determines the mix and preferred number. On a general note (foundation stage/ sub-structure)) 6" blocks(solid/hollow)------------30/35 blocks 9" blocks (solid/hollow)----------20/25 blocks You can increase the number by +5 afterwards for after foundation stage. |

Dominionng: You did a full wall tiles before POP ceiling and your installer didn't crack the tiles before he installed the ceiling? i.e the ceiling was tied to the noggin alone without the wall? Kindly keep his contact for you will need him for repairs. This is not a drill sir. The first of such builds I did that was in 2014. If any of such happens the client will definitely contact me. |

akinolaolujide: It's your project and your taste and your decision all am saying is it's not construction beat practice . Is there a guideline handbook for best practice? Get 5 Engineers and 5 Architects from different countries and seek their opinions on certain things as regarding building construction then you have a debate. Certain things we ascribe to are nothing but myths. |

akinolaolujide: There are pop is a very messy process except you are having it precast y do u want to spend funds cleaning a well done tiling Job or even just preventing pop from getting to it . Also the scaffold employed by the Pop guys may end up spoiling th tiles. So why take that risk There are no floor tiles yet to be done. Walls tiles comes up first in all toilets, kitchen and my POP installer gets to work. Tiller will work completely afterwards on the floor. |
Properties › Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by bixton(m): 10:36pm On Apr 13, 2018 |
Dominionng: Oh! Of course there is a logical reason sir. When wall tiles is fixed before POP ceiling, then you need to break the tiles above the ceiling line, or at least all the points where the POP mesh will meet the wall. And with that, there is a high chance of cracked tiles below the ceiling line. So, why waste money, time and energy when you can have your tiles neatly done after your POP ceiling. I have about 3 buildings/sites where I have done it that way. My POP installer did not crack the wall tiles. I guess my installer works differently. |
Properties › Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by bixton(m): 1:32pm On Apr 13, 2018 |
Dominionng: POP should come first. There is no harm in doing it differently. As there is no actual logical reasoning doing it in any particular format. |

Yes I want to build it It all depends on your location and if you intend getting a complete drawing with stamp/seal to be forwarded for approval from the relevant government authority (ies). Get a survey plan. .......done by a Land Surveyor Get an Architect to design what you want. Engage a Civil Engineer/Building Technologist/Qualified Builder-Artisan on the ground works. Try getting another quote from a different fabricator/welder. If you're so interested in using the guy you can bargain within the range of #280-#350k. |
