There is always two sides to a story, and I read a rebuttal by the governor's spokesman that seems to suggest that the woman may have contributed to exacerbate the situation. Laws must be obeyed, even if it seems stupid to you, until it is changed. For the writer to suggest that the governor of Imo state should not use blaring siren to clear regular folks off the street of Lagos, when it's the norm in Naija is simply using tribalism to explain a general societal problem. That's silly. |
I will have a heart attack the day I meet a Nigerian public servant that is not a thief. It's the existing norm and we're all living and breathing corruption. Critics are those that hasn't smelt the corridors of power. Folks like Ribadu and Akunyili just has the decency to do some work but you bet they're doing some stealing on the side too. Hey, Tai Solarin started wearing trousers when he became chairman of peoples bank. Go figure. Who cares who will becomes the next PDP chairman. Fixing Naija starts from Aso Rock. |
There was speculations that he was becoming insane, and I mean mental disease, before he was dropped as defense minister. His recent dumb and irresponsible comments about ex head of state, Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi suggest that Naija will be better served if Danjuma is committed to a mental institution. It's sad to see such an ignorant unstable person masked as an elite. Only in Naija. Thanks to the aberration that was the Nigerian Army, making an inconsequential lowlife soldier important in national discourse. |
almondjoy: Just tickled to death--and enjoyin' ma LAST day off!!!. So Nairaland can have some peace and quiet for a change!Great! Good Riddance To Bad Rubbish!! |
Inspirational S.African song, but African Anthem? ![]() |
In addition to the guys in NFL and NBA, there are lots of budding stars with some kind of Naija connection featuring in college sports. Naija names show up on ESPN ticker regularly this days in college sports. More of them will be seen in the pro ranks soon. |
Ibime: All I know is that nobody who tapped soccer in Naija goes to Yankee and then learns American Football. Only the rich kids whose mummy's didn't allow them outside to play with common Nigerians. ![]() Really? I just didn't tap soccer but ate soccer in Naija. Growing up in my village, I easily forego the mandatory evening catchism and benediction to catch up with my daily soccer fix on Sundays. Of course lashes of my dad's whip always await me at home. The lack of quality soccer in the US helped me recover from soccermania and discover that there is equal excitement in American football, Baseball, Basketball or any other sports for that matter. All it takes is to know the rules and root for a team or player. Now, I cannot choose any soccer game over the Yankees, Jets or Knicks in that order. Maybe the Super Eagles or Enugu Rangers. I even watch Ice Hockey (sometimes) ![]() |
We are already taking small forward steps in the unfamiliar terrain of democracy and rule of law. All the annulments so far by the Judiciary would never have happened in the Nigeria we've gotten used to. We might want to try Yaradua in moving things in the right direction. Obviously the process that brought him in is flawed, but the whole country and most of its people are flawed in terms of democratic principles. Having another election is not an overnight cure. Hopefully the little sign so far by Yaradua upholding the rule of law is the key to making baby steps towards a stable progressive country. |
ikamefa: am yet to see a bonafide African-man not loose his senses when he sees waist beads or gold -chains on a well rounded, succulent booty ![]() You're damn right. I sure loose my senses each time I see those silly beads. Not sexy. Remind me of Naija Ashes. |
It's sad to see how racism has eroded the mind of a lot of blacks. Right from the get go most blacks never gave Obama the slightest chance in the Democratic primary. The truth is that he has so far ran an excellent campaign and the results shows. As the front runner, Naysayers still can't get around the possibility that maybe he could be elected based on the content of his character. Cospiracy theorists now want us to believe that Obama is been set up to lose the general election. It's easy to forget that Hilary is highly unpopular in Republican southern red states. As a lightening rod among republicans, her chances of winning a general election is even less than Obamas. Obama is winning simply because he has been a better option to Hilary and could very much be better than McCain. And when the majority see his quality and have the courage to vote for him regardless of skin color, That's What Change Is. |
almondjoy: Now if it were Tyler Perry running for the "Presidency" I would have gladly been his "1st and only Lady"Well, that explains your irritating and irrational reaction to important issues. |
The whole idea is to threaten you into submission. If you ignore them enough, they'll leave you alone. The problem is that if you enjoy hanging around hot spots on campus, you might get hurt if you don't have friends to deter them. But if you really feel threatened, you must report to the school authority and police. One thing these misguided youths try to avoid like plague is the police. None of them want to visit a police station. |
Since you've decided to let strangers online advise you on who to marry, I say don't marry, because Cameroon is too far to bus me and other villagers for the wine-carrying ![]() |
Emad: well i think i lost mine at 6monthsYou must be a victim of FGM. Warn your parents to desist from messing with clits. |
Of course Andy handled the situation with honesty and class like a true Bronx Bomber. He should re-focus fast to contribute in the on going dismantling of the Boston championship anomaly which the G-Men has started. However, Andy better be good and win at least 15 games or else he'll get it from the boo birds at Yankee stadium. |
Is there really an argument that one that claims any culture ought to speak the language? Parents can be ignorant and misguided but that does not excuse the shortcoming. And those arguing to the contrary, that's just sad. There are some issues that either a young or feeble mind will not comprehend. |
Open up to Africans without being condensending. It's hard because most African Americans due to the years of racism and negative press do not want be associated with the inferiority label often attached to Africans. A lot of AA are smart and fun to be with, but their voice is often drowned by the majority ignorant. The situation is better illustrated by a remark made by Chris Rock to a white audience where he said that despite his status and wealth, an average white guy will most likely decline to switch position with him. But rather ride out the white thing. Those ignorant AA despise African immigrants, simply because they find ways to succeed in a racist environment rather than settle and complain. AA must embrace Africans to restore meaning to their existence. The problem is that there not enough AA with the capacity to do so. |
almondjoy: I say I know as these Naija dudes dey waka abroad. If you search deeper this Osita papa of a "Umenyiora" only run go marry this "Ijeoma" woman as a prerequisite of getting his chietancy title. Since e no go look too good if a whole "Udo-ka-Nyin-Nacho 1" go carry chieftancy title without wife for im side. Na disgrace be that now.

It will help if you get your little feeble mind educated on facts before casting aspersions on the worldwide web. |
OSITADIMMA UMENYIORA A few facts about Ositadimma Umenyiora. Both parents are full blooded Nigerians from Ogbunike in Anambra state. He was born in London on November 16, 1981. Moved back to Nigeria with his family at the age of six, and later relocated to the US in 1995 at the age of 14. He is from the Umenyiora royal family of Ogbunike, Anambra state and was bestowed with a honorary chief because of the 30 scholarships he endows each year for local schoolchildren. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/lee_jenkins/01/29/umenyoira0204/index.html |
Spraying money on people in public is a stupid act that I detest. But, you can't legislate against stupidity. The only acceptable spraying is for strip dancers, which is understandable. |
@Emad, What you regard as "truth" is only your limited understanding of the facts. The fact that some Nigerians use fraud to better their lives, which by the way is obtainable of every other nationality, does not make it the "truth", applicable to most Nigerians. |
doyin13: If Clemens had just shut up and acknowledged his guilt like Giambi. . .e for no reach like this. You're damn right! I hoped and prayed that he come out swinging as he is doing, so that that there will be an opportunity to disgrace his sorry ass like they did Bond. It's obvious that he is juiced, even without the Mitchell report. His mind is playing tricks on him with his B12 excuse. Unfortunately for him Brian McNamme lacks the balls of Greg Anderson. |
The only reason I'm interested in the inquiry is to level the playing field following the venomous attack on Barry Bond, in the name of cleaning the sport. Barry took whatever most players were taking to turn himself into a super slugger. The unrelenting investigation and prosecution is simply because he is black. I'm really interested to see how the feds go after Mr. Clemens for perjury. There is already more evidence than they had against Barry. And the republican congressmen acting like jerks? No one gave Barry the benefit of doubt, even with less glaring evidence.PED is all over the place. With guys like David Ortiz becoming an overnight terror for the Red Sucks after a journey man career with the Twins. All I'm saying is that if the government wants to waste tax payers money chasing Roid and HGH users, it should be an equal opportunity waste, without regard to race or color. |
Emad: We Nigerians are experts on 419 ( fraud )With all undue respect Emad, an ignorant sis like you should not have access to the internet to avoid such dumb characterization of a nation of over 130 million. |
"I'm telling you, I respect the Patriots if they do that, but right now, they haven't done that. So come to me, like I said, don't call me when you're in my town, call me when you're on my block, and I see you next door moving your furniture in. That's when I'll know you're going to the championship and you're about to play. And if you win it, I'll be dressed up in a tuxedo waiting on my bride" - Mercury Morris, 72 Dolphins. "I'm very humbled at what the Giants were able to do as underdogs, realizing that on any given Sunday, anybody can beat anybody else -- except in 1972." - Mercury Morris, 72 Dolphins. The Patriots got to the block, walked up to the house and rang the bell to be let in. Gbosa!!!, Osi, Tuck and Strahan knocked their ass back to their moving truck. |
18-1 never felt so goooooooooooooooood! This is only a tip of the iceberg. It's the cause of the Bambino reloaded. It feels so good to know folks are really hurting right now in Beantown. But we're saving the big hurt to unleash it where it hurts most in October - at the heart of RED SUCKS NATION. |
BlackMamba: ![]() Sorry dearest JeSoul. Hope the humble pie isn't so coooooooooooooooooooooold! |
With the completion of the Johan Santana deal, the Big Apple is pumped and ready for the Giants to bring back a victory parade down the canyon of heroes. |
Another bone-headed idea by our misguided brothers up north. What an ignorant means to alleviate poverty. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7213386.stm |

Not sexy. Remind me of Naija Ashes.
