I didn't know there is cabletv in Naija. Maybe you mean a satellite tv like DSTV. |
These CFA candidates seem obnoxious to me. I wonder the arrogance that will come with passing this test, since financial analysis has become such a sensitive and classified field to warrant the hush-hush. ![]() |
As a former British colony, what really happened to soccer in India. Do they even play a little bit like other Asian countries? May be there is some truth to the ban. India and all their mystic shit makes me want to believe the myth. It makes for an interesting bar tale, especially the version of an opposing goalkeeper seeing multiple balls from a single shot by an Indian striker. ![]() |
The business aspect of promoting a fight plays a huge role on how a fighter is packaged. Mayweather is best cast as the villain to generate huge interests in his fights. That was the case with Oscar and Hatton. Often the public feed into this persona, which in Floyd's case he actually encourage with his antics. Sadly, the white media as potrayed in England and to some extent in the US, due to subconscious racism fail to draw a line between promotional gimmicks and the real person when a black guy is promoted as the bad guy. |
drrionelli: If I may ask, however, would somebody please explain the "boys in masquerade" and the "dancing girls" to me? Are they local performers who go neighborhood to neighborhood?Masquerade is one of the cultural displays of the Nigerian people. They put on ceremonial attire whenever there is an important ceremony such as a burial or Easter and Christmas festivities. The costumes are made either of pieces of clothing sewn together or of dry material covering the whole body from head to toe, with two small openings over the eyes to allow the masquerader to see. It's a taboo for a woman to put on a masquerade. Women cultural dancing groups are allowed but never in a masquerade. It may take the form of a carnival with different groups parading along designated locations and performing their acts. People give them donation of cash in appreciation. This is usually the case in some parts of Eastern Nigeria on Boxing day and New Year day. Christmas day is always reserved for eating and drinking with family and friends.

davidif: Since Nigeria is probably the most religious nation in the world, we focus more on the religious aspect of Christmas rather than the extremely materialistic (buying of gifts) in the US. We go to church on Christmas eve and participate in Marathon prayers and on the morning of DEC. 25th we go back to church. On boxing day, some people go picnicking (i have before) on new years eve, we spend a long time praying till the countdown in church and thanking God for what he did for us in the past year and thank him for what he is about to do in the next year. On new years day we come back to church and pray more and thank God for his goodness and mercies. Then in some churches people fast the first week of the year or even the first month of the year. That's an obvious false characterization of Christmas in Naija. A minority of Naija Christians may actually adhere to your religious aspect of the celebration. But, of the majority Nigerians that observe Christmas, most Christians probably attend one church service, like most people that I know. And the rest do not even go to church but just enjoy the festivities. |
Just like Thanksgiving in terms of family reunion, but with extra funfare. |
Do they still print yesterday news as current news in their tired effort to be detailed? In this age of internet, I hope they've stopped shipping stale news, or they should rather change to a weekly news magazines. |
Before the TKO Brits sang: There's only one Ricky Hatton! There's only one Ricky Hatton! Walking along, singing a song, Walking in a Hatton Wonderland! After the TKO the song changed to: There's only one Mayweather! There's only one Mayweather! He talks the talk and walks the walk Walking to the money land! |
Both are great, but Shaq is greater. Simply because, put in the same condition, Shaq will deliver more championships, which is the bottom line. |
It just goes to tell you that scouting is no science. I'm thinking of any other No.1 overall pick that busted the way he did. May be Kwame Brown? |
Thank you RichyBlack.. I've always been troubled with the manner Black African Muslims relate to non Muslim Africans. It all boils down to the brainwashing by Arab Jihadists. Whatever will make a black man overlook obvious common heritage to kill and endorse the killing of his brothers in the name of religion is evil and retrogressive. I'm not in support of any religion more than I do my fore fathers religion, but no other religion support killing of non believing brothers to gain access to fantasy paradise. It's also troubling to note that these pocket of Arab Africans is always bent on ruling the majority Africans in every country you find them. This has been a major factor in the unending wars in parts of Africa. |
This is an example of the sad state of affairs in Naija. Do we even have folks that understand their roles in the House of Rep and Senate? They ought to be conducting public hearings on this important matter. And the press need to be more aggressive educating the masses on important policies as this. |
Ahmadu Bello, Zik and Awo. Under their watch, an elitist group were created whose only claim to fame was been a politician. Appropriating state resources for their personal comfort. These guys and their cohorts became overnight lords replacing the colonial masters, living in GRA's and driving imported cars when majority of the population remain ignorant of their role in the new independent nation. They took advantage of this overwhelming ignorance to perpetuate themselves and their successors in government. That has led us to today's Naija where the culture of corruption and nepotism seem normal to the average Nigerian. |
How will subsidizing the cost of goods and services for club members and may be assisting the less privileged bring about a New Nigeria. Putting a band aid on the cost of living does not address the basic problem of democratic government and accountability. Back in the day, our father's generation formed cooperative societies, and in Eastern Nigeria, even set up a Cooperative Bank. All their lofty goals are extinct because these ideas do not address the underlying problem of a representative government. |
I'll take binging and wilding out to kids packing and shooting up schools as is creeping in the US. |
To the contrary, it's always been highly charged and exciting. Coups, (S)elections, impeachments, sham corruption crusades etc. It's just a sad reality in a country that continues to struggle in the basic concept of Rule of Law. |
The duration of courses will not fix the quality of our graduates. I spent 5 years in a Nigeria university to pick up a certificate which I continue to regret for time wasted. Adding 5 more years would not have made any difference in the quality of education I received. |
Juju is real for those who believe or have some orientation in the culture. I'm not sure how you feel about the myth, but if it's negative, as I perceive from your post, then you may be stupid putting yourself through the stress of a relationship with the girl. Personally, no voodoo is holding you back. You just can't decide between your attraction for the girl and your founded or unfounded fear. It comes down to your life choices which you must live with. |
Equal access to qualified Nigerians in a fair and competitive economy will guarantee millions employment. A lot of Nigerians can import sugar and flour. |
OEPHIUS: wade sucks and soon lebron will join himNo my man. The King James Version is the real deal, and I'm a Witness. |
Have you ever seen an NBA champion crumble as fast as the "flash in the pan" Heats has done? Wade has now realised that hustling and falling all over the court will quickly land you on the surgical table. And the "Big Aristotle" is more or less the "Big Turtle." My only regret is that greedy Reilly should have allowed Vangundy the opportunity to claim the ref-assisted championship. |
The East of course. With all the drama from my beloved Knickerbockers, who cares about the wild wild west. ![]() |
What exactly makes him better than the average corrupt contract chaser/business man in Nigeria? Access to the corridors of power in successive regimes and the unfair advantage that comes with it. With the underlying corruption that guarantee his prominence, of course, he will seem like a king to you, without any tangible contribution to the economy. |
Simply make them pay for clean-up after their carnival. It's standard practice in event hosting, Naija factor permitting. |
NO. Likewise, Amadioha dictates, as an Igbo man, I must marry an Igbo girl. ![]() |
All the naked girls made me proud. I've always been a fan of African porn and the freak show was a good try. I'm not sure what the rest of the program was about but a nude African woman will always make me proud. |
IGP can't do shit if the presidency don't approve. So, I'm still watching Yaradua. He still hasn't told me why Onovo was no good as IGP after he was initially recommended. |
Too much familiarity breeds contempt. Be a man and an adult. |
Do people make up silly stories to generate responses (as I just did), or is it a case of people getting more stupid by the day ![]() |
I hope we build a strong international alliance before embarking on this cowboy move. France obviously will defend Cameroon, and try to push for sanctions and possibly military intervention. But the joker is that international players are very sceptic of each others intentions. Nigeria can easily draw the U.S., China or Russia to our side by throwing our oil clout around. Deals can easily be made with the super powers if you're talking oil. Lets give this a shot, if we have smart bureaucrats to prosecute the plan. |
