Please does anyone know any information about getting married as a Nigerian living in Canada. Do I have to change my name? What’s the process and the pros and cons. I would like to hear your views.

My department is planning to send my stipends for the entire fall semester (September to December) via cheque to me in Nigeria (as per new directives due to the pandemic). I need advice on this. Should I ask them to hold action till I am in Canada or should I get the cheque since I am not even sure of when I'll be in Canada. The money will be enough to cater for 200% of my needs here. Does anyone even know whether or not I can cash a Canadian cheque into a Nigerian bank account?

This is very tricky, very very tricky. My school refused to pay my funding until I arrived Canada and that’s the position of most schools. They literally told me to pay the fees myself and if I’m able to enter Canada, they would re-imburse me. So your school saying this is tricky. Make sure you read the terms and conditions before signing any documents. If your visa was issued before March 18, find your way to Canada.

Nigeria’s border isn’t opened yet. Your best bet is any of the African neighboring countries.

My program is online but I also recieved a letter of support to travel from my school.
Getting to Cotonou wasn’t that difficult. There was several checkpoints though but we passed through them on a low key. It’s about planning yourself if you intend to go through that route.
They asked why I was traveling since my classes are online, I just showed them my letter of support and that ended the discussion.

Wanted to drop my soft landing epistle but the strength to type is something else. I’m lazy when it comes to typing.

To cut the long story short, I arrived Canada today via Cotonou and it was quite stressful and interesting. Immigration wasted my time and made me lose my flight. That’s all.

I’m available for questions. To all AIPs, congratulations. To all those awaiting approvals, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. You shouldn’t give up.

Please how well does Saskatchewan take Nigerians for PhD? I've written to a professor requesting to be my supervisor, but got an automatic response that she's away until next week. I was referred by the mail to other potential supervisors to contact. Should I go ahead and contact them or wait till next week and see if I can get a response?
Also, are there fundings for international students in Saskatchewan schools?

Yea they do. I personally know someone doing his PhD and another, his masters.
They got the admission with full funding.
It’s not bad to contact other potential supervisors but is their research interest in tandem with yours or somewhat similar?

Please don’t be discouraged in applying. We should learn to overlook people like vibrant who breezes in and out as he pleases. I’m really surprised that you guys had the time to respond to him. Na his way biko. Just ignore him and focus on the main purpose of this thread.

You should defer till January but still put in your application for winter session.

Please, does anyone here know of someone schooling in University of Saskatchewan or based in Saskatoon who can help me physically follow up on my admission?

I applied to University of Saskatchewan's May 2021 intake of Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc) program since February 27, 2020 and my admission status in PAWS has been 'Complete ready for review' since March 4, 2020. I have sent my CPA transcript assessment to the MPAcc business office by email, but they hardly respond to emails.

No one can physically follow up on an admission as schools are also operating remotely. The best bet is to send a mail to the grad school of your faculty asking for an update on your application. They most likely would have made a decision on it by now.

I had the same issue and what I did was to get another birth certificate from NPC. I was able to do so because the name on all my certificates were the same as that on my international passport except birth certificate. What name is on your important certificates?

Adding the birth certificate of every member of your family isn’t necessary. They aren’t the ones traveling.

It’s important you state your intended course.

For Academics, SSCE cert, Statement of results and Resume isn’t necessary.

For Financials, your explanation for the source of funds, is it your company or you are under an employement?

For other supporting documents, can you explain the letter of PREVIOUS employment.

Why don’t you defer the admission to 2021. When your visa comes out in between, you can apply to other schools that their resumption is winter or spring. Or you wait till Sept than reapplying and not guaranteed admission.

Right now, you just have to wait until it is opened or isn’t it something that can be done online? Do you have to be physically present at the office? If you can do it online, then go ahead. Those guys are unpredictable so if you think you might not meet up, you can always defer your program to Winter.

Perhaps I am missing something here. If your uncle in Nigeria has enough funds, why does he have to pose as your father? Uncles do sponsor people don’t they? I don’t really understand how it will complicate things for him.

Please note that these people keep records. Remember with your first sponsorship application you must have given biometrics. Once you apply again for anything, everything you ever told them about yourself will come up. Once you have told them one story, you Berra stick to it.
Since you have told them your parents are dead then you have to remain an orphan as far as any visa application to any country is concerned because they share information.

Your best bet, your uncle sponsors you as your uncle (or whatever he claimed to be in the first sponsorship application). If you have other uncles in Nigeria I don’t think there’s anything wrong if they all support as joint sponsors since you are an “orphan” lol.

Just make sure you stick to the first story you told them in the first application. I wish we Nigerians will just stop complicating our lives with unnecessary lies.

He said the sponsorship was for his sister so ordinarily, it’s the sister who would have done biometrics.

That solves part of the problem am also looking at the parent that he claim was deceased and if i can used there names or use the name of my dads elder brother who is my sponsor and we are bearing the same surname.

YOUR FATHER isn’t deceased. If you go with the advice of your uncle, this lie will come back to hunt you in the future when you have forgotten. Don’t lie!!! Simply state that your father is alive but you have an uncle who is interested in sponsoring you. Irrespective of whether you bear the same name, you would submit his documents, like data page of international passport and his business documents. Save yourself the stress and explain yourself.

I believe that nothing is impossible and during the time he was applying for this sponsorship he did not ask me to submit any document, he only requested for my sister document and the main purpose then was to take my sister over there.

Just expunge his name from that application and don’t even think about him sponsoring you. Since it was your sister and not you he previously intended to sponsor, you can go ahead with your visa application. I believe you just have to truthful. When filling your application for visa, you would also fill in your sisters name and they might probably go through her records. You may have to explain this to them to prevent problems for yourself.
