PoliticsRe: 20 Years After: Your Thoughts On The Orkar Coup by blinx4real(m): 11:32am On Apr 23, 2010
The Gideon Orkar coup goes back to the fundamental question of the Composition of Nigerian ruling bloc, today with the killings in Jos, Militancy in Niger Delta and the latest attempt by that terrible oligarchy (we cannot call them the Northern Oligarchy because they only represent their own interest and not that of any section in this nation) to perpetuate itself in power through a "Dead" President, and the declaration that only a Northerner can contest in 2011 elections, I must say that Orkar is more than justified.

He (Orkar) is not certainly the smartest man around and his solution was so childish that even without Abacha's intervention it would have died a natural death on its own. However, the fundamental question of how the ruling class emerges has to be revisited vis a vis electoral reforms must be puched to a logical conclusion else clamors to splinter this nation will certainly continue.

Been reading all the posts by u guys. Interesting and glad to know there are fellow Chemical Engrs in the house.
I'm a grad of Chem Engr'g, (member NSChE) worked as safety / QC officer in a marine construction coy now in oil servicing coy doing an administrative job. After all the brain cracking nd knowledge of Mass transfer, Rxn engr'g, Polymer tech, Separatn processes, fluid mechs, Thermo, Instrumentatn, serious pilot plant practicals and others. Soon to round up my Masters in Project Devlpt & Implementatn that I was forced into cos of challenges faced in the industry due to no Chem Engr'g experience, e don tire me o! I love my Chem Engr'g and would like to build a career in it, but guys practicing what's new in the discipline? Pls update me, still mch interested in Chem Engr'g.
You really don't have to feel despondent because your lot is much better than those chem engrs working of at the marketing dept of a new gen Bank!!! thats on the lighter note.
The fact is that Safety or HSE as it is called in the industry is as much important as any Process design work you can do, infact right now there is no design/project that will be allowed to see the light of day without proving that it can be operated safely. In a nutshell your safety experience is good enuff for a career in any engineering field.
Your responsibility however, is to show ur would be employer its relevance to his requirements, all the best.

I don't think we need a forum, if we can get this thread active enough, then maybe we can break out into individual threads focused on specific areas. However, with the limited traffic on this thread for now, there's no justification. wink

People seem to have quietened off again - don't let this thread die!!
I simply feel the reason pple quieted down is because we av too many topics and request posted already and the thread will make no complete sense if we keep adding divergent queries.
I can guarantee you steady inflow if the Chemical engr section comes alive and segmented into the key areas.
We av students and professionals, definitely their queries will be different, you have software usage request and standards, procedures enquiries, putting all of that in the same thread looks funny really.

@Kosovo, if these LAME Quotes are the reasons why you think IBB is the mna, then you must be extremely gullible. Is IBB of today any different from who he was in 1993? What has changed? Who has he apologized to? What is he now commited to? I think what we really need is a whole section not a thread,
The Chemical/Process engineering discpline is so wide and we have so much to share - softwares tips, Process design, Calculations and Spreadsheets, Chemical engineering fundamentals and so on,
And seeing the response so far, I'm sure its going to really fly once its off the gorund.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Why Do Some Nairalanders Have A Serious Bias Against Those Of Us Overseas ? by blinx4real(m): 12:03pm On Mar 24, 2010
The answers are simple enuff,
1. You talk about things you don't fully understand
2. You make foolish and unrealistic demands that you wouldn't dare do even in the western countries you are holed up in
3. Your tribal sentiments becloud your better judgement failing to realise that when nigeria breaks up ur families here will also suffer and you will become a people without a nation,
do you want more?

The bottom line is that you all wherever you are should try to make nigeria better not project when we shall fail!

PoliticsLet’s Start In Abuja On Tuesday March 16, 2010 - Enough Is Enough Rally by blinx4real(op): 1:45pm On Mar 08, 2010
I have decided to create this as a new topic, I realise some people have hijacked the earlier post aimed at generating awareness of the upcoming SNG rally in Abuja. However, we will not be detered by spineless, lily livered folks who only have the capacity to talk yet cannot show their face and stand up to be counted when the time comes for sincere actions to be taken.
Pls lets all come together and save this nation from the impending disaster, so that your children and children's children will have a place to call home!, GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

(ON)GOING CONCERNS: Young people power by Tolu Ogunlesi

Where two or three young people are gathered, there is bound to be incurable enthusiasm, or frustration, if those young people happen to be Nigerian. How much worse can it get, with a President who has celebrated 100 days out of office while still in office; state governors who strut the land as co-presidents, drunk on a power no one has entrusted to them; local government chairmen who are delighted to bleed the land dry while lurking in the shadows of bigger politicians; and young people for whom searching for a job is a fulltime job; for whom a Masters is no longer an avenue for deeper knowledge but an opportunity to buy another year or two from the paralysing frustrations of joblessness.

We watch, helpless, as masses of youngsters - who should be holed up in the laboratories and research institutes, creating the wonder drugs and environment-friendly cars of tomorrow - now see a future only in the seven-and-half minutes of fame that a reality TV show will bring. If you ever thought the Bible owned the copyright to the Book of Lamentations, then you haven’t seen the one being written by young Nigerians.

This sorry state of our country has left an interesting side effect. It has turned us all into comedians, people for whom no lemon is too unripe to be turned into lemonade, for whom absurdity is an instant ‘open-sesame’ for verbal ingenuity. We have made jokes about everything; composed ballads for President Yardie, turned “Turai” and “Mutallab” into verbs; and wondered why, after having a president who suffered kidney failure, we now have an acting president afflicted by “liver failure.”

Increasingly, however, we are realising that it is time to move on, to go beyond Concern, and Comedy, and make our way into the uncharted territories of Commitment. It is dawning on us that it is not enough to be Angry Young Men and Women, trapped in the online factories of Twitter and Facebook assembling jokes and status updates from our ever-increasing frustrations.

This realisation is what thus explains the emergence of movements like LIGHTUPNIGERIA, WHEREISYARADUA, and the latest, ENOUGHISENOUGH.

LIGHTUPNIGERIA was founded in 2009 as a mass movement of young Nigerians tired of living like cavemen in the 21st century, forced to organise their most important activities around the natural cycle of day and night, because of a near-total collapse of electricity infrastructure. The movement has organised town hall meetings, and created tremendous awareness and following on Facebook, Twitter and in real life.

WHEREISYARADUA is an online platform created to keep the noise level high regarding the troubling search for the most high-profile missing person in the history of this country.

And then ENOUGHISENOUGH, a coalition of individuals, organisations, and collectives, intended to be the most ambitious of youth initiatives aiming to effect peaceful transformation in Nigeria. ENOUGHISENOUGH is a double-edged sword; it is a message both to us (that it is time to leave the comfort of our computer and mobile phone keyboards, and seek to exert authority in the real world) and to the powers-that-be (that enough is enough of taking Nigeria and Nigerians for granted).

Over the weekend I was at a gathering of two dozen young Nigerians, cutting across ethnic and religious lines - and I daresay, premiership club preference. We were meeting to fine-tune strategies for the first ENOUGHISENOUGH project: a march of young Nigerians to the premises of the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday the 16th of March 2010. The march is intended as a symbolic kick-off to a series of bold initiatives to seize the destiny of Nigeria from the hands of elected and selected saboteurs in high places.

As we debated and raised our voices, I couldn’t help thinking that many of the most significant players in Nigeria’s history were no older than us when they decided to intervene in the affairs of the country (think Nzeogwu, think Gowon). The difference was that they were all clad in military uniforms, and they spoke only one language: the one that issues from the ‘mouth’ of a gun.

We are different. Most of us have only ever seen guns in the hands of armed robbers and armed policemen. Our weapon is anger, enlivened by a sense of history, and of destiny, and tempered by reason. And, very importantly, we are determined not to make the mistakes that those who went before us made, revolutionaries who ended up creating systems in dire need of revolution.

We need all the support we can get. So, if you are young, or young at heart, and think it is time to say ENOUGHISENOUGH, to electoral malpractice, to power failure, to fuel scarcity, to the cabals in high places, and to whatever else you may think of, let’s start in Abuja on Tuesday March 16, 2010. Aluta continua, Victoria ascerta, “Enougha Enougha”!

what do u mean by infringement? Is there any restriction to the use of the internet service stated in the original agreement between the subscriber and starcomms? how come the infringements are popping up all of a sudden?
visiting illegal sites and downloading using p2p applications should be between the copyright owner and the user not the isp interfering! (not that I support download of copyrighted materials anyway).
PoliticsRe: Nigeria: Power Crisis And Prosperity by blinx4real(m): 1:56pm On Nov 03, 2009
Every thing rises and falls on Leadership my pples,
The same way a crappy, incompetent CEo will crash a multibillion dollar company along with its capable staff and massive capital base, Nigeria is being systemically (note not systematically) collapsed.
The incompetence of our executives is so evident in their priorities and methods of resolving issues, i'll provide you with a classical example in the power issue.
Problem: Low power generation capacity;
Govt Solution: Award IPP contracts scattered all over the country from North to South
Addition problems arising from political location of IPP projects: Transportation of Turbine from Port to base, Laying of Gas pipelines to all IPP plants scattered all over the country, zero power distributon infrastructure, No gas processing facility available, etc etc I could go on and on and on,

A much simpler solutino would have been to adopt the European Commitee system, since the gas is in Niger Delta build the plants there, that removes the costly business of constructing pipelines, and transporting the turbines,
Simple solutions come only from minds that can reason, our current crop of leaders do not!

Give Onovo the chance to prove he is up to the job, if he fails to live up to expectation then he should be held to account.
The same way we gave Yar'adua a chance and he continues to mess up?
Withdrawing police is not the key problems with the police, I bet they prefer that kind of duty cos they are not gainfully engaged in their primary duties. Get them to focus on their jobs and then the demand for personal escorts will reduce.
PropertiesRe: House Foundation Cost Quotation by blinx4real(m): 3:21pm On Jul 20, 2009
I feel the question is quite simple and straightforward, all these parambulations and analysis will not do anybody any good.
I think Ajileko has been more forthcoming with his answers than all his antagonists and shows that he obviously has the kind of experience the others lack.

If I may just re-iterate his comments , high price doesn't guarantee quality and similarly quality should not be overpriced.

We should also be quick to question all these unnecessary hiking of prices for services, it says a lot about our mindset as a people - no wonder the govt claims to spend billions on fancy projects awarded to luxurious high class contrators, projects that can be carried out by road side artisans, (infact in asia, such projects are done by secondary school students) and at the end of the day we see no results

Yorubas claim that the ijaws are their blood brothas but they can't even give any meaningful support to their cause rather they attack them like the northern enemy. Which kind brothas una be sef?

As it is now yorubas are a greater enemy of progress than the north due to their chameleon tactics. Your affiliations and stance change with the political and economic climate to suit your own self-serving interest.

At least the northerners are the devil we all know and they don't change. They even tell u their agenda to your face which is to rule over the infidels(south) forever. But yoruba people play both sides and think they are sleek. Your loyalty lies more towards the hausa/fulani cabal because a significant portion of your group are islamized and also you are scared of a revolution.

The south has what it takes to give these concieted northern jihadists a good ass whooping and, as well, redefine the destiny of all groups trapped in this fradulent contraption called nigeria. But this has not been possible because the yoruba are inherently deceitful. While they scheme for crumbs from the tables of their northern godfathers and masters thinking it gives them an upper hand over and above other groups, they fail to overstand that the rewards of coorperation with other southerns(whom they share more things in common) is far more substantial than the chicken feed derived form their lame chameleon tactics.

Once again the igbos are on the side of truth and justice, fighting along side the ijaws/MEND in the spirit of comradery. It is in times of need that you know who your true freinds are.

Yorubas stop playing yourselves we already know you can't be trusted. .
.
Who is this fool? Who is fighting who?
Guy in this fight you are on your own,
Or maybe some good may come out of your rotteness, IT EXPLAINS WHY WE HAVE MORE KIDNAPPING IN ABIA AND ANAMBRA THAN ALL THE ND STATES COMBINED, courtesy biafran brother
PoliticsRe: Fashola Warns Mend by blinx4real(m): 5:11pm On Jul 17, 2009
The trend of the discussion is extremely pitiable, most especially the points coming from the proponents of MEND.
I am disgusted because not only are they ignorant and dumb but most hypocritical, You stay in your cosy apartments in Lagos, Abuja and often times outside the country and chant the tunes of war, pls answer me how many of you who are so strongly supporting the bombings and destructions live anywhere near ND?
Have you every seen an explosion before or heard a gun fired over your head. ignorant fools.

Take a cue from the Tamil tiger rebels, Sierra leone, Liberia, somalia and even Dafur in Sudan. If this fragile peace that FGN and all the others in the country are carefully guarding falls thru, na who go suffer?
If the war finally starts where will you stand? will you sit in Lagos and clap as the TBS is raazed down, will your neighbours " loud mouthed yorubas" hug you and clap with you or take off your head?

MEND should be told the home truth, the Atlas cove attack was a senseless move, and is only bringing their motive to question.
Let me finally say that every revolution is concluded at the table, you can either take the table now or do it later after the entire country have wasted lots of time, money, and more regretfully lives.
