Hi,

I wanna share global trends in construction. This should be of interest to we Quantity Surveyors.

The global trend in construction include:

1. Building Information Modelling
2. Modular/Prefabricated construction
3. Blockchain technology
4. Use of drone/robots in construction and construction supervision
5. Lesson learnt

Please add to the list.....

Don't sign that contract!

Many contractors are only concern about the bills of quantities out of all contract documents. Many pay little or no attention to contract conditions. This has lead to project abandonment, disputes and conflicts in project execution and contract administration.

A contract should not be signed without thorough understanding of the terms of contract in the contract conditions.

Your signature to that contract is your consent, acceptance and agreement to all terms in the conditions of contract including all potential 'opportunities' and 'liabilities'

how do i calculate linear meters house ... is it the same thing as linear foot
There are different units of measurement namely: metre, feet, yard, inches cm, etc.....

They are not the same but you can convert from one to another and vice versa

May God bless you both as you have come here to openly mention the good deeds of these ones. I wish I have been on this forum a long time and I wish I knew even the little that I know now.

I would not fail to repeat that good deeds are worth more than silver and gold. People would be willing to relate more with you and even introduce you to others when your work has been well delivered.

I celebrate with those on this forum that have been lucky to have enjoyed the good services of nairalanders. And I hope to share similar testimonies too in the near future.
Good one smiley

I greet you all here

My name is Folarin and I reside and work in Australia. I have been a silent members of Nairaland and follower of this particular thread though I never took it serious to register but this time I just though I should register to share this. I have learnt many things on this thread and Nairaland in general.

So have this project that is rounding up now at Lekki phase 2. Multiples of 3bedroom duplex.
When I got to tiling level my friend introduced me to a guy I have been seeing his thread on tile here on property section. Whom he said he bought his own tiles and WC from some months ago . At first I was skeptical cus I have had some bad experience here like 2years ago and my wife didn't buy the idea of betting on a guy I don't know with so much money. But my friend convinced me that he's the one who has been supplying him for his projects in Agbara area of Lagos and I can't come down to Lagos just to buy tiles so I had to try him out.
I chatted him up and he send me samples of some very nice tiles ,gave me prices and we progressed. On payment terms he said I shld pay 75% before and 25% after supply . we agreed and he arranged a truck for the tiles and gave me the price . Before payment I had to do some investigations on Facebook and Instagram with his name just to calm my troubled mind.
After everything I paid him 75% of 4.2m,gave him the address and my Gateman's number. I followed up till the nextday when my site supervisor called me that he has received the tiles and counted the cartons to confirm its in line with what I sent him.
The bottom line is that the delivery went beyond my expectations cus I hardly trust we Nigerian to be honest but now I know better .

Thanks so much Raphael my wife would have killed me if there was any stories grin

His company name is Epic ceramics collections

His name is Akam Raphael ( Thathistoryguy )

Contact him on 08157000908

His a good guy and I hope he fulfills promise of giving me free delivery on my WC and sanitaries
This is a good one

Hello people!

A trial actually convinced me

Not long ago on this platform, I requested for a professional Carpenter and aluminium roofer for my mini 3 bedroom project, and got contacted by ADEDWARD, whom I initially doubted for some reasons. One of the reasons for my doubt is that he quoted far below others and even when I still choose to reduce the quantity quoted, he promised to work around it and still make it work. Hence, I was afraid he might be a scammer.

I read some comments about him here and some have actually criticized him on this same basis. Yet, I still chose to work with him because when I engaged him, he sounded like someone who knows what he is doing. More so, he was the only one reiterating to me the importance of using quality wood for the roofing and the negative consequences of not doing so.

In a nutshell, I decided to give him the job and alas! He proved me beyond reasonable doubt. I am a very hard person and he was able to manage me still, even when I call him with crazy voice complaining, he will calm me down and tell me I will be happy at last. I know such quality is not common with people with such hand work as I have worked with few.

I will always recommend him to friends and family, and to you all nairalander with similar projects now and in the future....
Nice one.

Good Evening Nairalanders, Was charged 350k for Tank stand today; Is this price realistic?
Ask the person that gave you the quotation what type he want to do for you: made of galvanized steel or reinforced concrete.

Ask for the height too

Reply to @Boay : Thanks alot! The sqm is actually 230 and not 250 as earlier stated (the gatehouse has been floored already). Location is in benin city and i was told to pay 7k per m3 for the concrete as last price and 50k for the supervision.
15ton of granite = 95k
double trip of sharp sand = 25k

quote author=boay post=79948283]

Concrete volume 31.25m³ @ 4000/m³ labour is #125,000

We pay #4000 to the casting team. They will provide/rent the concrete mixer themselves.

Cement (if 1:3:6) = 138bags @#2500/bag =#345,000

Give me the cost of material in your location to get the cost of sand and granite
#7000/m³ for labour and 50k for supervision is not a good bargain in Benin City

I guess by double trip you meant 10tons tipper?

If it's 230sqm, total volume is 28.75m³

Cement = approximately 127bags @#2500/bag =#317,500

Sand = 22tons (#55,000)

Granite = 43tons (#272,300)
