Good morning everyone.

Please I'd like to know if it's possible to use a WAEC result from 2012 to seek for undergraduate admissions in the UK.

I'm in the process of applying for a transcript for my Canada admission.

Do I get a student copy and then get it sent to the school I want to apply to
or

I need to send it to the school directly.

Please guide me.

PS: I attached a screenshot of what I need to fill to apply for the transcript.

Hello! I'm assuming this is the new TPS website for OAU transcipts processing. Most schools require an unofficial copy so you can request for a student copy, apply with it and then when you're admitted, you'd be required to submit an official copy which you'll have to write the receiving school's address.

PS: If it's truly OAU, getting a transcript is really difficult. You'll have to press buttons and followup on the whole thing.

Thank you Toceen for this insight on my CGPA. never knew I was down grading myself.
Pls my CGPA for my 300 and 400 level are
4.33 and 4.36 respectively. Pls how do I calculate it so I get the total for the last two years.

Secondly, a big congratulations on your admission. Am Soo happy for you. I just pray my own testimony will come soonest. Am really tired of this country. Pls I want to ask , were you given full funding for your program? I really need full funding because I dnt have money to pay for the fees.

Hello!

If you'd be applying for fall 23, we can connect and try to work things together. The whole admission and visa thing takes time and God's grace. I'll leave you a message via Nairaland. We can share ideas if you don't mind. I plan to start sending mails as early as May. We'll be fine.

Just sum up your last two years and find the average. In your case, your last two years should be around 85+%.

Toceen2022:

Hello,
* First of all, it's late to start looking for a supervisor for a Master's program. I can categorically tell you that all applications for masters program for international students starting in September 2022 are closed, not to talk of getting a supervisor and applying. In fact, many have already received a response based on the application they've submitted since last year. So you can only start looking for a supervisor for September 2023 admission.

# No 2. I think your cold mail is too lengthy, you don't need to talk about everything you've done, just focus on areas you share in common with the professor, and few outstanding things you've achieved that can quickly catch interest (A write up says cold mail should not exceed 100 - 150 words) but with details that are catchy.

# No 3. Your CGPA percentage is not 65%. If you had 3.84/5 CGPA, then it is 76.8%. You can use CGPA conversion sites to see. Just Google "CGPA percentage conversion, select any of the search results, pick your grading scale which is 5.0 and input your CGPA (3.84) and click submit... You should calculate your last 2 years as well, if your last 2 years (e.g 300 and 400L) at the university is over 3.84, I'll suggest you mention it in your mail as well.

#No 4. Getting a supervisor can really be challenging. But in your own case, I believe they didn't respond because it is too late, all professors and doctors would have already known students they want to work with by Fall and admissions would have already be given out.

In my own case, I started mailing potential supervisors last year May/June 2021 for September 2022. It was just 3 that responded. The first person said she'll be retiring the year I planned to start, the second one said I should just apply and use his name, while the third one set a date with me and interview me through zoom. After that she agreed to supervise me and send my details to the department.
I applied to the school around October last year, and I just received admission for Sept 2022 intake few days ago. Mind you my overall CGPA is 3.8/5, but last 2 years is 4.1

So, focus on next intake, September 2022 is not possible again. All the best.

Congrats on your admission!

If you don't mind me asking...

Which school? Did it come with funding? What course?

Most supervisors would have gotten most of the students they want to supervise for September 2022. So if this year doesn't work out you can start sending mails early for 2023 instead.
Just a suggestion.

Very true!

I earlier sent an email I sent to a supervisor on this thread and I was corrected in some areas of my email. I later revamped my mail and sent again, yet no response. I even used grammerly and depli checker to make sure my email was ok. Yet no response. Am just tired. I really need to leave this shit hole of a country, pls what can I do. I need to begin classes with the September batch, and Time is running out, but am yet to get a supervisor who has agreed to supervise me. Dear Dr. Andrea Kraj,

I am writing to express my interest in a master's degree position in your group. I hold a BS.c degree in Physics and Industrial Physics at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nigeria with a Second Class CGPA of 65% (3.84 on a scale of 5.0). My undergraduate research was conducted on the Construction of a Solar box cooker, to convert Solar energy to heat energy in a confined space that was used to boil water. The study was commended as one of the best in the department.

To acquire more knowledge in the field of Solar energy, I got an industrial attachment as a Research Assistant at an Electronics development Institute (ELDI) and was posted to the Solar department. I worked alongside a Solar engineer and was involved in the construction of a solar phone charger, solar rechargeable lantern, solar information display, and solar inverters. Also, we carried out projects of mounting Solar panels (PV) for some homes, offices, and universities that were connected to batteries and inverters used to power their homes and offices due to power failure. I was later posted to the R&grin department and I researched other renewable energy sources.

I went through some of your research articles, and the area of research being pursued in your group is very interesting. Going through your website, what my eyes saw gladden my heart. Your project work on the installation of a 900 kW PV System in Nicaragua is what I desire to do for my community and different communities in my country as a woman.

During my industrial attachment, I was made to understand that being involved in the Renewable energy sector is a man's world, and I seek to change that mindset. I come from a developing country where electricity seems to be a luxury that can't get to everyone, most especially, remote communities and these communities have abundant renewable sources( Sun) wasting away. This lack of electricity has brought adverse effects to the community in terms of employment and education. I seek to be that solution my community needs. Your publication on "Smart Cities Begin With You", caught my attention and I will appreciate an opportunity to discuss potential research ideas that align with your area of interest.

I am confident that my investigative qualities, independence, creativity, critical thinking, analytics, team player, presentation, effective communication, self-motivated, flexibility and adaptability, organization, time management, and target-oriented would be an asset to your laboratory. Just to also let you know, I just subscribed to your podcast- FEMPOWER. I believe that one day, I will post my story and it's going to inspire a lady or ladies out there, that no matter their gender, they can go into the engineering field and do what the men are doing, even greater than them. Am also a member of STEM. I am enclosing my CV and TRANSCRIPT. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing positively from you, as I believe working under your supervision will bring my dream of "Being the Solution the world needs" to a reality.

Sincerely,

Okafor Onyinye Augusta.

I sent my CV and TRANSCRIPT in PDF

Good morning, while I'm no expert in this issue and considering the fact that I'm yet to send cold mails myself, I feel this mail is too long without proper emphasis on what you want to bring to the table. You definitely mentioned the skills and knowledge you've but that's in a very generic way. You can dote more on your research interest (how you'd want him/her to mentor your work and a short summary of what your proposed research will be about) bearing in mind that it must align with his/her (potential supervisor) own research interests. You can also try to talk about how one or more of her publications can serve as a building block to your own research work.

Another thing is the fact that for Canada, you'd need to send a large number of mails to get responses. Sometimes, up to 30 or 40.

Good morning everyone.

I've a little problem with my grad school application and transcripts and I'd like to ask the house what potentials steps I can take to get out of this conundrum. I studied pharmacy from OAU and my overall CGPA is 4.26. The problem is in the fact that, unlike how CGPA is being calculated in other schools of pharmacy and departments in general, the calculation of CGPA in my faculty differs. The GP of 100L doesn't contribute to your total CGPA and each class/level after 100L takes a particular percentage of your CGPA Viz: 200L (10%), 300L (20%), 400L (30%) and 500L (40%). That is, if you had 4.3, 4.3, 4.3 and 4.5 across all levels, your final CGPA will be 10,20,30 and 40% of these grade points respectively. This made my transcript complicated and I'm scared it'll pose a problem during application to schools as interpretation will be difficult. I'd like to ask what the house thinks the way forward will be as I'm considering doing WES evaluation of my credentials to reduce this complexity. I also plan to send mails to grad school coordinators about the whole thing to ask if there are ways to circumvent the issue.

Secondly, unofficial transcript for my faculty sent from the school does not have credit units and contains just courses, course title, and grade obtained. Since most schools tend to specifically request for last 60 (or so) units of academic work, I sensed the lack of credit unit will make the transcript hard to be used for admission purposes. I'd really appreciate submissions as to way to go about it as I'd like to apply against Fall '23 intake.

Thank you!

Hi,

I wouldn't advise you to do WES evaluation. It doesn't seem necessary unless a school asks for it.

Of course, you can mail grad school coordinators of your prospective schools.

Your unofficial transcript should work. Many schools will just specify the required overall GPA or GPA for the last two years.

Even those schools that ask for last 60 credits often mean last two years.

Lastly, you can also reach out to those who graduated from your department before you and proceeded to undertake graduate studies outside Nigeria.

Thank you very much! Yes.. Everything I'm doing now is still under strong review as I really don't want to be impulsive about any move. I've been trying to reach people that graduated from my faculty with the same transcript to ask how they went on with grad school application. Also, I got a copy of my faculty handbook (the part that explains how the grading is done) which I'm planning to attach to my cold mails when I start sending them together with other necessary documents. Thanks a lot for your submission. I'll send messages to the graduate coordinators to ask if I can go ahead with the unofficial copy or not.

So I've been following the thread for quite a while for the past couple of months.I luckily stumbled on a link to a collection of materials on GRE while I was navigating Twitter, looking for fine babes to DM. I couldn't start preparation right away as I had to go for the incipient 3 week NYSC camp. I took the first diagnostic test, although, without preparation, Saying my scores were terribly abysmal would be an understatement. The reason for my poor scores isn't farfetched anyway, I'm in the life sciences, pharmacy to be precise and the last time I touched basic maths even, was probably in SS3. It's no gainsay asserting Engineering students have an unfair leverage over students from other areas...

I've started with the Manhattan series but prep has been desultory. There's a professional exam I need to sit for in the next few days, apparently, a hiatus in my prep is imminent. I haven't registered for the exam yet as I see it better to start preparation long before registering. I've called for my transcript but my school has been delaying(OAU), I'm not sure what range my cumulative grade point would fall in but I figure it should be a little above 4 point, that which isn't bad for a start.

Hello!

I sent a mail through Nairaland and I'd really appreciate your response. I'd like to ask you a couple of questions if you don't mind. I graduated from faculty of pharmacy, OAU.

If you couldn't get to him through his mobile line, contact Binance.
You owe this man an apology. Be a man and have some sense of dignity here, you dragged someone's name to the mud based on your ignorance only. It's not his fault you did not mark your order as paid.

The fact that he didn't mark the order as paid is the issue. People that trade large volumes don't have time to be patiently sorting out issues like this.

I picked up my passport at the Ilorin office today. Issued on 7th of January.

PS: If you need your passport ASAP in Ilorin, try to get to meet the PCO and explain your predicament. He's a nice man and he'll most likely order the immediate printing. I captured August and I saw people who captured December collecting their passports. I had to go and meet the PCO on 7th of January (the same day it was issued) to explain myself. I was in my NYSC khaki and he promptly ordered the issuing. Same with 3 of my corper friends. NB: Some early 2021 files are still yet to get their passports.
