– Anti-graft group accuses Wike of corruption when he was minister – The governor was accused of swindling Rivers and Nigeria. – The group urged the EFCC and ICPC to probe the former minister The Peoples Coalition against Corruption, an anti-graft group has urged the federal government and anti-corruption agencies to investigate Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state. According to Sahara Reporters, the group in a statement signed by Peter Iloagbeze accused the governor as massive theft spanning five years. Wike was accused of diversion of resources from the Tetfund; the swindling of over N100billion Universal Basic Education Fund, as well as conversion and diversion over N20billion of the Ministry of Education budgets in four years while he was serving as the minister of state for education and later acting minister of education. The group urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and other security agencies to investigate agencies and public servants that were colluding to defraud Rivers state and Nigeria. The group alleged that as minister of state for education between 2012 and 2015, he awarded to himself through his companies and cronies several contracts which he did not execute but received full payment. “For instance, on the 28th day of June 2012, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) under the hand of Engr. E. Eshett awarded the CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF RUMUEPIRIKOM INTERNAL ROADS (PHASE 1 & 2), OBIO/ AKPO to CICO INDUSTRIES LTD for the sum of # 2,673,121,782.24 (Two Billion, Six Hundred and Seventy-Three Million, One Hundred and Twenty-One Thousand, Seven Hundred and Eighty-Two Naira and Twenty-Four Kobo),” it said. “Beside the fact that CICO INDUSTRIES LTD, is not a Civil Engineering company they were awarded with the contract for the construction of Rumueprikom Internal Roads and have been fully paid by NDDC, using his crony Hon. Henry Ogiri.” The job was however not done according to the statement. “Instead, in 2015, upon emergence as the Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike, knowing that the same road had been awarded to him through MESSER CICO INDUSTRIES LTD for which he had been paid did without any form of compliance with the Rivers State Procurement Law and in other to cover his criminal act and intention, surreptitiously awarded the same RUMUEPRIKOM INTERNAL ROADS to RENNIER CONSTRUCTION COMPANY (RCC) for even a high amount than the pricing of the NDDC.” The group said its investigation revealed that Wike compelled the company to do the job for N2billion less than the amount shown on government record. “The investigation also revealed that the company was cajoled to do the job as a condition for them to receive payment for their Trans Amadi – Woji – Elelenwo – Akpajo Road awarded to them by the past administration in the State. As it stands on records today, NDDC has Rumueprikom Internal Road awarded to CICO (WIKE) in 2012 for over N2.6billion; RVSG has the same road awarded to RCC and another company (both for WIKE) in 2015 for over N3.4billion.” The group claimed that less than 35 per cent of the job has been done in spite of the heavy amount swindled from Rivers and Nigeria treasury. https://www.naij.com/721549-exposed-ant-graft-group-reveals-shocking-details-wikes-corruption-photo.html |

Senior Advocate of Nigeria and one of the most respected lawyers in Nigeria, Ricky Tarfa, was reportedly arrested by the EFCC yesterday evening Friday Feb. 5th at the premises of the Lagos High Court in Igbosere, Lagos Island, for alleged obstruction of justice. EFCC Spokesman Wilson Uwujaren, who confirmed the arrest to Channels TV, said Mr. Tarfa was arrested for allegedly trying to prevent the anti-graft agency from arresting his clients, a Beninois national, Granhoue Sourou Nazaire and his Nigerian lawyer, who were on trial for offenses bordering on forgery and conspiracy. The accused, who were already on bail, appeared in court yesterday and when EFCC tried to re-arrest them, their lawyer, Ricky tried to prevent it. Mr Uwujaren said ongoing investigations necessitated the re-arrest of the two foreigners, but Mr Tarfa allegedly hid them in his car from about 12:00 noon till about 5:00 pm before they eventually nabbed him and his clients. http://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2016/02/revered-lawyer-ricky-tarfa-san-arrested.html?m=1 |

Her split-second decision saved the lives of everyone onboard and several families linked to them. Nigeria should know its heroes, so let’s get to know better this amazing young lady who was ready for everything to become the very first female helicopter pilot in the world’s most populous black nation. Captain Abimbola Jayeola and her passangers. Captain Abimbola Jayeola hails from Abeokuta in Ogun state. In 2008, she graduated from the Bristow Academy, where she “learned to believe in herself” . Speaking about her training in Florida, the USA, she said: “From a technical perspective, my academy experience is the foundation of my success on the job today. More broadly, exposure to the rich and multicultural diversity at the academy greatly facilitated my understanding and appreciation of different cultures and the way they do things. Effective communication, establishing good interpersonal relationships, networking and sharing ideas are just some of the important ‘soft’ skills I developed and honed during my Academy training. “Coming from a part of the world where some professions are viewed as the exclusive preserve of men, I found enormous encouragement in the academy. I learned to believe in myself because I was determined in my choice of becoming a pilot. I’ll always remember what one of the instructors said to me: ‘If you have faith in yourself, other people will have no choice but to believe in you.’’’ Now Captain Jayeola is working for the Bristow Group and her base is Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital. Before joining Bristow, she worked with Geointel and Associates. Abimbola flies the Sikorsky S-76 helicopter. Captain Mukhtar Usman, the director general of NCAA, noted that the suspension of operations of the company does not represent a vote of no confidence on the company but to look out for adequacy and propriety of the operating aircraft type. https://www.naij.com/721285-meet-female-captain-bristow-helicopter-ditched-atlantic-ocean-pics.html |

Reports filtering in suggests that the alleged mass graves dug by the Nigerian army to hide the casualties of the clash with members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, has been uncovered. According to FARS news agency, Nigeria’s political activists disclosed that they have found a mass grave where hundreds of civilians who were massacred during the Nigerian army’s raids on two Shiite religious centers on December 12 and 13 have been dumped. The mass grave is located in Mando Kaduma cemetery along the Birnin Gwari road near Hajj camp in Kaduna state and over 1,000 Shiites Muslims of Nigeria who were allegedly massacred by the Army have been buried there. Alleged site, where the Nigerian army buried Shiites en-mass The political activists (who could not be named for security reasons), disclosed that after massacring the Shiite people in Zaria, the Nigerian army had brought their dead bodies to Kaduna province and buried them in the mass grave. The activists further revealed that the Nigerian army forces buried and set fire on the corpses of those Shiite Muslims who had been killed during the recent raids in Zaria region. “The Nigerian army has buried in mass graves and burnt a large number of dead bodies of those Muslims who have been massacred in the recent army forces’ attacks,” the activists revealed. They claimed that the army was attempting to destroy every evidence of its alleged crimes against the suppressed Muslim community, adding that if it had any convincing reason for the mass-killing, it wouldn’t resort to such methods to conceal its crimes. The IMN demanded the setting up of a judicial commission of inquiry to probe the killings of their members in Zaria on December 12 and 13, during its meeting with House of Representatives panel. The movement also demanded for the unconditional release of their leader Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife who have been in the custody of security agencies since the incident. Members of the movement made the demand when they appeared before a House of Representatives panel investigating the matter. Although the meeting was held behind closed-door, a lawmaker at the meeting said that six members of the movement including some lawyers, chairman of their medical team, an associate professor from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the head of their education section were present. Site of the alleged mass graves discovered by some political activists It was also gathered that the movement members demanded for the corpses of their members for proper Islamic burial as well as the release of the injured for medical attention, alleging that hundreds of their members are currently detained in Kaduna prison without being charged to court. The source said they told the committee that the killings were premeditated based on the way and manner they were carried out and sustained for more than 48 hours. They said there was no reason for their leader and his wife would be held in custody for weeks without any information on his whereabouts without being charged to court. It was wrong, they added, for anybody to refer to them as a sect, but that they are a movement comprising of adherents of Shiite, Sunni, Tijjaniyya and even Christian priests. The source added that they alleged that apart from killing scores and destroying their Hussainiyya center, soldiers also went to where Zakzaky’s mother was buried and tried to exhume her body and also destroyed their cemetery at Darur Rahma along Jos-Zaria road. They further said that when the killings were going on, personnel of the Red Cross who attempted to render help to the injured and evacuate those killed were denied access by soldiers. After listening to their submissions, the committee chairman Rep Aminu Sani Jaji (APC, Zamfara), said his committee would do a thorough investigation. He said his committee would intervene for the release of Sheikh Zakzaky and other members of the movement in detention. The lawmaker said the committee would also visit the movement Hussainiyya, Zakzaky’s residence as well as the Darur Rahma, and other affected places to see for themselves. He promised that he would ensure that justice is done no matter which of the two sides is found guilty. It would be recalled that the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC), an NGO in special consultative status with the economic and social council of the United Nations, affirmed that the Nigerian Army opened fire on a peaceful demonstration in Kaduna. The IHRC also affirmed claims that the existence of mass graves have been credible, saying that the army dug mass graves and filled them up with bodies of victims of ruthless military actions SOURCE |

In a notion to justify his mode of dressing to public functions and events, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has disclosed that he prefers to identify with the ‘common people’. In a post on his facebook page today February 3, the minister noted that the red-beret is his signature while the ‘Khaki’ he is used to wearing is to appreciate the people. Read the post below: So many people have asked this same question ” what is behind your mode of outfits and what is the motivating principle?” The ‘Red Beret’ is my signature for a struggle of the common people. The ‘Khaki’ is just nothing but a very modest way of appreciating the magnitude of problems the ‘common people’ face in this country. Solomon Dalung I don’t fancy putting on attires outside that because it does not at all, portray our understanding of the situation in which we operate. There are people in this country who find it difficult to eat one meal a day and yet, we intimidate and harass them with gorgeously expensive dresses. Some of our apparels can even feed a whole community! I find it difficult to reconcile such an irony. (Sighs) So, I have decided to just live happily and modestly because that is how I feel happy each time I am in my simple wears. As for the ‘Red Beret’, it is the signature of those who struggle against injustice, violence and oppression of the poor. In fact, the red colour, historically represents the blood of the poor people who have been struggling for a better society. Each time we look at the red beret, we remember that some people have sacrificed their lives in struggling to live better in a world which was created by God and which others have decided to hijack and live at their own advantage against the voiceless majority. So…the summary of who I am is that I am a Comrade walking the talk. https://www.naij.com/717820-buharis-minister-discloses-wears-red-beret.html |

Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, sacked the Village Head of Ganduje in Dawakin Tofa local government area of the state. The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, has removed the Village Head of Ganduje in Dawakin Tofa local government area of the state. NAN reports that the ousted Village Head, Alhaji Sani Ganduje, is the younger brother to the state’s governor, Abdullahi Ganduje. The monarch announced the removal of Ganduje, on Monday, January 1, at a special palace sitting in Kano. According to him, the decision became pertinent following reports of ‘gross negligence of duty’ which the emirate council found worrisome. “The action was taken because it is an offence for one to smear the good image of the traditional institution. “The Village Head was stripped of his turban as his offence bordered on gross official misconduct which the palace was all out to jettison for the sake of safeguarding the credibility of the revered institution,’’ he said. The Emir reiterated the need for all traditional rulers in the state to demonstrate a high sense of responsibility in all their activities. The Emir, who was the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) also pleaded with all traditional rulers in the Emirate to be disciplined and avoid dealings capable of damaging the image of the institution. Meanwhile, Paul Arkwright, the UK ambassador to Nigeria and other delegates recently paid a 2-day visit to Kano state, where they visited the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II. The Emir of Kano recently visited Kaduna state and met with the governors of Borno, Bauchi, Yobe, Kano and the Sultan of Sokoto when Bill Gates, and Aliko Dangote were in Kaduna state to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on routine immunization with the governors of six states. https://www.naij.com/716510-disciplinarian-emir-kano-unexpected-governors-younger-brother.html |

A suspected female robber who posed as a nurse, has reportedly snatched an 18-seater Hiace bus belonging to a Benin-based private commercial transport company, Agbonifo Line. The female robber who reportedly dressed in nurse uniform, was said to have led other members of her gang in the robbery operation to snatch the vehicle marked DGE 317XB and chassis No: JTFRX12PV08042624, at gunpoint along the Ekpoma-Agbor road in the state. The driver of the bus, Tony Nwaosa, who narrated his ordeal on his hospital bed where he is receiving treatment for injuries he sustained from the gang of armed robbers who were said to have brutalised him, said the suspect chartered the bus from the company’s park at Ekpoma, Esan West local government area of Edo state and informed the driver that she wanted to go and convey computers her husband imported from abroad. “I was in Ekpoma at our park between the hours of 10 to 11am last week Thursday when a lady approached me that she wants to charter my bus to a village near Agbor. We agreed for a fee of N40, 000. I met my manager at Ekpoma to confirmed from my MD if I should embark on the trip or not and he agreed. “So, the following morning (Friday) a bus was sent from Auchi which we used. Shortly after we departed from the park, it occurred to me that I didn’t carry the vehicle’s manifest papers so I asked her to permit me to return to the part to pick it which she obliged. “During the course of the journey the girl was receiving several phone calls and I specifically asked her what exactly are we going to carry and she said computers which her husband that lives abroad imported. I became suspicious of her because of her conversation on phone as if the person was nearby. “She later asked me to stop to pick somebody along the road and immediately the caller called her again that we have passed him. She then asked me to park. Only for me to sight about seven armed men from a nearby bush and they demanded the key of the bus. “They started beating me with the butt of their guns and blocks from an uncompleted building while the girl watched until I couldn’t remember anything that happened again. I only woke up at the hospital here. That is all I can remember,” Nwaosa said . Also commenting on the incident, the managing director of the transport company, Festus Okhuomose Agbonifo, who corroborated the driver’s account, however said he suspected foul play between his manager at Ekpoma and the female robber, because, according to him, no receipts indicating the identity of the girl was issued by his manager before allowing the chartered bus to embark on such journey. Agbonifo who said the matter had been reported at Igbanke and Abudu Divisional Police Station, called on security agencies to apprehend the robbers. https://www.naij.com/712405-unbelievable-hospital-nurse-led-robbery-operation.html |
– Court stand down Olisa Metuh’s trial – Status quo remains until Metuh’s arrival from Kuje prison – Metuh is standing trial for money laundering A Federal High Court on Tuesday, January 26 stood down the trial of Olisa Metuh over lateness from prison officials. On calling the case, a counsel, Susuwam who is holding brief for the defense counsel, Sylvester Tahir prayed the court to stand down the case pending the arrival of Metuh from Kuje prison. Susuwam said he had called the officer in charge of bringing inmates who informed him that they are on their way coming. Having no objections from the defense counsel, the judge over the case, Okon Abang said officials must learn to take timing serious. He said he already had a timeframe for which the present matter should stay in court. Adding that he also needed to round off with the matter to enable him attend to another matter in Lagos. An angry Abang said: “The prison officials cannot keep holding this matter down, so tell them, this is the last time I will be standing a matter down for them.” “It all depends on the attitude of the prison officials, if they make up their mind to be here before 9 am they will make it, unless they are used to coming to court late.” Abang said. He went further to add: “This matter has been reluctantly stood down to 10 am at the instance of the prosecution.” But just as the judge finished his statement, the prison officials walked in as the prosecution announced that the accused person has arrived. But Abang said he cannot go back on what is on record and that the stand down holds. Metuh, the spokesperson for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is standing trial for corruption and money laundering charges levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). At his trial on Monday, January 25, two prosecution witness gave details of how they received millions of naira, changed currencies and made investment for Metuh. At the beginning of the hearing of the PDP’s spokesman yesterday, Metuh was docked at the court. He was again brought to the court in handcuffs. Meanwhile, Adeyanju Deji, the PDP’s director of new media, recently accused President Muhammadu Buhari of denying him access to Chief Metuh. https://www.naij.com/708664-just-olisa-metuhs-trial-stand.html |

About 30 people have been reported killed in Adamawa state, following renewed clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers within the state. According to Premium Times, a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in charge of Vunokilang police station in Girei local government area of Adamawa state was among the 30 people killed in an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Sunday, January 24. The suspected herdsmen raided four villages: Demsare, Wunamokoh, Dikajam and Taboungo in what is believed to be a vengeance mission over an existing feud with farmers in the area. Several houses and other property in the villages were also burnt in the attack. The DPO, Okozie Okereofor, who was deployed to the state about two months ago, was said to have been ambushed when he was leading police officers to the disputed area. He was killed in the eventual shootout with the gunmen. The corpse of the slain police officer and the others killed is currently deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Yola. The police in Adamawa confirmed the killing of Okereofor, saying: “The DPO and his team were attacked while on official duty in the affected villages where he was killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen.” Spokesman for the Adamawa state police command, Othman Abubakar, said: “Report at my disposal indicated that the attackers looted foodstuff and livestock of the villagers before setting the villages ablaze. “The suspected Fulani herdsmen raided four villages in Girei local Government area on Sunday morning around 5:30 a.m. killing scores including the late DPO.” Commenting on the attack, the Acting Brigade Commander of the 23 Armored Bridgade, Yola, Aba Poopola, confirmed that the Fulani herdsmen had problems with the affected areas. He said “everything is under control” as he has deployed his officers to the area to maintain law and order .” Following the attacks, many residents have reportedly deserted their villages even as some of the attacked communities are allegedly held sway by the herdsmen. https://www.naij.com/707008-herdsmen-vs-farmers-bloody-clash-leaves-30-killed.html |
The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, may risk arrest as the House of Representatives Ad-hoc committee, investigating sharp practices in the collection and management of non-oil revenue remittances by ministries, departments and agents is irked over failure of honouring invitation. The House committee threatened to issue a warrant of arrest on Magu if he failed to appear before the Committee on Tuesday, January 26, to account for the revenue collected and remitted to the federations account, The Breaking Times reports. Also, the committee on Thursday, January 21, walked out representatives of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency because their directors-general were absent at a meeting in the National Assembly. Chike John Okafor, the chairman of the ad-hoc committee, condemned the absence of the DGs. The DGs were said to be having a meeting in the office of the national security adviser which irked the committee to wonder if the NSA by law was more important than the National Assembly. The chairman of the committee stated that the legislature will not take it lightly with any government agencies that disrespect the National Assembly specially in the honouring of invitations in course of oversight functions https://www.naij.com/706795-remittances-house-threatens-issue-arrest-warrant-efcc-chairman.html |
