Since the YABDI Ogbomosho project, I have received several calls and enquiries from nairalanders on the production and marketing of Tomatoes profitably in Nigeria.
Hence forth I am going to be writing on my experiences , mistakes, solutions and the way forward as Tomato farmer .
Tomato is a crop that has no enemy. No tribal, cultural, nor religious sentiments about tomato.
Both young and old loves and takes tomatoes.
Tomatoe can be eaten raw in salads or cooked in stew, soup and other delicacies

BusinessRe: 25 Small Scale Business Ideas In Nigeria by bosunjohns(m): 10:19pm On Jan 17, 2015
Biliamin:
Stumbled on this and I think it worth sharing:

1. Livestock Farming

Livestock farming is a booming business in Nigeria and the trend is not dying anytime soon. With 150+million mouths to feed daily, there will always be demand for livestock products. However, lack of technical know-how and the use of crude equipment are the major factors hampering the growth of this industry. If you can come in with adequate knowledge and the patience to nurture this business, you will reap immensely. Now you can choose to either venture into livestock breeding of animals or better still, you can stick to livestock feed production or equipment retailing.
◦Poultry farming – Egg production, meat production, hatchery or day-old-chicks production, etc.
◦Cattle Farming – Diary (milk) production, beef, etc.
◦Goat Farming
◦Sheep
◦Fish Farming
◦Piggery
◦Grasscutter Farming
◦Snail Farming

2. Agro-products exportation

Nigeria is blessed with a lot of food and natural resources; and most of these natural resources are raw materials needed for the production of some finished products. Every day, tons of raw materials and food products leave the shores of Nigeria to countries such as India, Vietnam, China, USA, UK, Brazil, etc; yet, the demand is never met. You can become an exporter by simply registering with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council and decide on the specific product you wish to export. Examples of products highly in demand are Chili pepper, Kola nuts, Bitter Kola, Cassava flakes (Garri), Cocoa, Groundnut, Yam flour, Cashew nuts, etc.

3. Mining

Nigeria is blessed with a lot of mineral resources like Limestone, Coal, Iron ore, Bitumen, etc. Aside this, the mining industry in Nigeria is set to take off because the federal government in June 2013 implemented a policy to drive forward the mining industry by declaring the importation of mining equipment duty free. The government is also going after many dormant investors who were granted mining licenses but are not utilizing it. This act I believe, will spur the growth in the mining sector. If you have the financial capacity and a team, you can position yourself in this sector.

4. Setting up a private mini refinery

There are lots of business opportunities in the oil and gas sector. Building a private refinery and refining crude oil is another business you should look into because there is a lot of potential in it. In January 2012, the federal government announced the partial removal of subsidy and with a long term plan to totally remove fuel subsidy. What this means in essence is that petroleum product importers will now sell as they buy; thus bringing in competition and it is a known fact that 80% of petroleum products consumed in Nigeria are imported. Now with the total removal of fuel subsidy, investors will now have the opportunity to set up their own refinery and produce fuel. Are you among those that think the total fuel subsidy removal is a pipe dream? Then think again because in May 2013, Aliko Dangote raised $4billion for the setting up of a refinery; which will be sited in Ondo state. Enough said.

5. Inland waterway Transport

There are lots of opportunities in the transport industry and inland waterway is one of them. Nigeria has a broad network of inland waterways comprising rivers, creeks, lakes and seas; yet, transportation still remains a challenge because investors are yet to tap into water transportation. A lot of countries such as Italy, Thailand, etc have effectively been utilizing their waterways as a means of transport; thus reducing the traffic congestion on the road. All you need to do is to incorporate a company, obtain license from the state and federal government, import or purchase some locally fabricated boats; and you are in business.

6. Establishing a Television and Radio Station

Now it is a known fact that the mass media industry is saturated in Nigeria. However, this is only true for some cities in Nigeria such as Lagos and Abuja. I have travel through several parts of the countries and discovered that most states have no private TV station, and only rely on the government own TV stations; which are very incompetent, uncreative and unreliable. I see an opportunity for entrepreneurs and investors with interest and competence in broadcasting or mass media. You can either choose to setup a radio station or TV Station.

7. Setting up a security company

There is a huge demand for excellent security services in Nigeria. As the government battle to improve the security situation in the country, individuals and corporate entities are now becoming aware of the fact that security is not the responsibility of the government alone; it is a collective responsibility. Hence, the current increase in demand for security guards, bodyguards, executive protection professionals and security gadgets or devices. As an entrepreneur or investor, you can setup a security guard recruitment or training company, or you can setup a bodyguard agency. Also, you can import and retail security products and safety devices.

8. Sewing of specialized uniforms

There are over 500 schools (both Crèche, primary and secondary) in Lagos state alone; and each of these schools have a specific uniform or attire for their students. Okay, let’s look beyond educational institutions. Do you know that other individuals and corporate organizations are in need of uniforms for their security personnel, staff, etc? There are also a lot or military (Army, Air Force, Navy), paramilitary (Civil Defense Corps, Police Force) and non-paramilitary (Road Safety, Traffic Warden, Kick against Indiscipline, Vigilante groups, etc) organizations in Nigeria that make use of uniforms. You can position yourself as a uniform supplier and make money from it.

9. Construction company

Nigeria is still a developing country especially in the area of infrastructure but this is set to change in the nearest future. Massive constructions are currently on-going in Nigeria ranging from bridges, roads, towers and skyscrapers, etc. If you run a construction company oversee, or you have the financial capacity to assemble the needed team and machinery for a construction company; then this is a business you should invest in.

10. Real Estate development

I have met a lot of individuals with money piling up in the bank, but they don’t seem to know what to do with that money. Yet, on every business trip I make, I hear stories of people facing accommodation problems; not because they can’t afford it but because there is none within their choice of location. Also, I hear woeful stories from students in various universities and other high institutions who live under harsh conditions; not because they want to or can’t afford a comfortable place to live; but because they is no conducive apartment in close proximity to the institutions.

I also know the stress, effort and resources it took me before I got an office space both within and outside Lagos. What these facts or complaints are pointing to is that there is a massive need for buildings, both residential and commercial. It is a known fact that shelter is one of the basic needs of man. Now for those who wouldn’t want to go through the ups and downs of running a business, you can choose to invest in development of hotels, school hostels for students, shopping malls, residential apartments, events and conference halls, etc.

11. Set up a writing company

If you are current with trend, you would have observed that most jobs in the United States are now being outsourced to countries like Philippines, India, China, etc. And as things stand now, a trickle of such outsourcing jobs are coming to Nigeria and one of such jobs is Article Writing or Ghostwriting. Do you have passion and skill for writing? If yes, then you can either choose to write from home as a self employed freelance writer or you can setup a company, employ competent writers and source for jobs online. This business is easy to get into and it is very profitable.

12. Call center agency

Have you called the customer care service of a telecom network before? Or have you tried sending a message or complaint to a corporate organization before? Do you know that those who take your calls, complaints and respond accordingly are not employees of the companies you patronize; neither do they operate in the premises of the company. If you are hearing this for the first time, then welcome to the world of “Call center outsourcing.” You can setup a call center agency and work for big companies on a contract basis. One sweet fact about this business is that you can start it from home and it doesn’t require much startup capital unless you want to scale up by employing more helping hands.

13. Recruitment Agency

The labour market is becoming tougher and there are over five million unemployed youths in Nigeria. Another hard fact is that companies are no longer employing full time in-house staff; they are now using the services of recruitment agencies to employ people based on contract basis. This strategy is aimed at reducing the cost of doing business by avoiding the cost of conducting a recruitment exercise and also avoiding employee claims and benefits. This is the sole reason why banks and other companies are sacking their workers on daily basis. So rather than fight the trend, why not profit from it by setting up a recruitment agency and connect jobseekers to their dream jobs. You can also be a corporate executive headhunter and make money poaching competent staff from one company to another.

14. Importation of wears

Clothing is another basic need of man. Regardless of the economy, people must wear clothes and this includes shoes, bags, underwear, perfumes, etc. Now there is a fast growing trend now and that is “Used clothes” or “Recycled clothes.” Since the economy is getting tougher and there’s need to be clothed, the masses have resolved to buying used clothes rather than new ones. Still yet, there is a market for new clothes; for men, women, and kids. You can source your materials from China, Hong Kong, Italy, France, Dubai, India, etc.

15. Haulage and logistics

Haulage and logistics is another booming business in Nigeria because regardless of the weather, people must haul their goods from one location to another. In fact, haulage or trucking business is one of the most profitable businesses so far; though it is management intensive. However, you can start with just a truck and see how it goes. You can choose to focus on hauling containers for clients from the seaports to their various destinations or better still, you can choose to haul products of specific companies such as breweries, production companies, etc. You can also haul perishable goods from farms and villages to the marketplace or you can haul specialty products such as frozen foods, petroleum products, gas, etc. Now there is also an opportunity for those who want to venture into haulage business but do not want to be bugged down by management requirements. All you need to do is to buy a truck and contract it to a Haulage and logistics company; which will in turn pay you a specified amount weekly or monthly based on agreement.

16. Outsourced bus service

This is another form of haulage business, but this time you will be lifting humans. This is a business that requires providing transportation services to organizations that cannot afford to buy a vehicle in-house. Your clients in this case can be schools, religious organizations, NGOs, etc. Now just imagine providing a bus and a driver, to be shared by three or more schools that can’t afford to own their own private bus; and you will catch the vision of this business.

17. e-Services

Nigeria is catching on with the rest of the world with respect to technology. If you are technologically inclined, you can setup shop in Nigeria and start offering e-services to clients. Example of such e-services include Web designing and development, App development, Digital marketing services, Search Engine Optimization services, Banner design services, Bulk SMS services, Online registration of exams such as JAMB, WAEC, professional courses, etc

18. Daycare centre

The demand for quality childcare service is increasing daily. Parents are now working harder just to generate enough income to keep the family going, thus leaving them with less time for the children. Now to be honest with you, there are a lot of daycare centers existing but only a few are providing exceptional services; and parents that cherish their kids are never comfortable leaving their kids in a child care centre whose environment is dirty. If you can come in with exceptional service and creativity, you will make money from this business. Another thing you must know is that you can start this business from home.

19. Training centers

Every year, millions of people sit for examinations and tests in Nigeria and most of these people usually need some kind of trainings or tutorials. You can position yourself as a provider of such training and make money off this niche. Examples of trainings you can offer include skill vocational acquisition training, corporate management skill training, etc. You can also conduct tutorial for individuals writing professional exams like ICAN, WAEC, JAMB, A. LEVEL, etc.

20. Waste Management

Waste management is another business with a future potential because Nigerians are yet to imbibe the habit of proper waste disposal. However, states like Lagos have been doing a lot to encourage proper waste disposal and management. Now there are several businesses you can start within the waste management niche and these include waste recycling, waste disposal, junk hauling, organic fertilizer production, etc.

21. Food processing

Another profitable industry to consider is the food processing industry. The concept of this industry is simply to take raw food materials and turn them into finished products. In fact, there are a lot of businesses you can do in this niche and examples of such businesses include Tomato puree production, Garri Processing, oil palm processing, groundnut processing, Fruit juice production, Rice milling, etc.

22. Alternative Power Installation

As the world goes green, and Nigeria battles her power supply challenges; there is an already established opening in Nigeria’s power sector. Even though the government has taken steps to deregulate the power sector by granting licenses for Independent Power Plants, granting a free import duty for the importation of power generation equipment and commissioning several power projects, this will never hamper the growing demand for alternative power generators such as solar panels, wind mills, Inverters, etc. You can either make money by importing and retailing these materials or you can choose to focus on installations.

23. Plantation Farming

Do you have a fertile vacant land and you know that you won’t be developing any structure on it in the nearest future? Then why not start a livestock farming, crop cultivation or plantation farming. There are a lot of cash crops you can plant, nurture and forget; and they will keep providing you with steady returns annually. Examples of crops you can start a plantation around are Orange, Plantain, Kola nut, Oil palm, Cocoa, Cassava, Yam, etc.

24. Manufacturing

You can also venture into small scale manufacturing of products that are in daily need. You don’t need to build a factory or industrial plant; you can start on a small scale from your room or a rented store or apartment. Products you can start manufacturing include Toothpick, Tissue paper, Serviette, chalk production, candle, Match sticks, nylons and polythene bags, cartons, paper bags, etc.

25. Bottled water production

I get calls from individuals almost on daily basis who are interested in setting up a “sachet water” (Pure water) production plant. Now let me tell you the honest truth, the sachet water or pure water business is saturated and the business may die off very soon. Why did I say this? Well, I got information from a reliable source that there is a long term plan to ban the production of sachet or nylon water; so as to stem environmental degradation and checkmate blocked drainages. So once this bill is passed into law, the sachet water production industry is toast. The only solution I foresee that can keep this business afloat is the establishment of a nylon recycling plant. However, to avoid being a victim of this yet-to-be proposed policy, it is advisable you venture into bottled water products and establish yourself as a brand.

RomanceRe: Six Reasons Women Like Bad Guys by bosunjohns(m): 3:40pm On Jan 15, 2015
emusmith:
Haven't you heard?

"Bad-guyism" is being over-rated.

It used to be quite fun and exciting to be "bad" but no longer!

A particular "bad guy", I know, was forced into settling down with a young lady at an early age because of premature pregnancy.

Know this Reality of life;

The "bad guys" are getting "gullible" ladies pregnant and breaking many hearts and that... is not funny anymore...

He doesn't become "so bad" that he ignores the "responsibilities" of being a "Single Father" (because after all said and done, that will be the aftermath).

This deception is going viral even as the "bad guys" are all actually saying one thing;
"There is nothing inside there"...

It is just you girls that wants a guy to be "bad" so as to satisfy your lusts!

Please, Don't Misunderstand Me!

I don't envy them. Never will!

In my "good boyism", I have "bad girls who wanna turn good" reaching out, but I say, Not yet!

Finally, Nothing dey dia! Marry one gal at your young age and enjoy life. Nor be to dey form bad guy, sleep with many girls, dey form terminator, while for inside you dey die of STDs and wasted years wey you children go inherit! God forbid bad thing!

Jobs/VacanciesRe: A Message For The Unemployed. by bosunjohns(m): 3:28pm On Jan 10, 2015
semochendo1:
This message will be meaningless to countless number of youths who are not ready to take responsibility for their lives. I deem it expedient sharing this message after realizing that majority of us have resigned to the frustrating predicament of the national unemployment syndrome, and as such, many of us have relaxed, blaming the Government and wallowing in the "someday Isle", thinking someday, things would change for good, while we do nothing to take responsibility for our lives.

As it's the responsibility of the citizens to hold their leaders responsible/blame them for the national failures, so It's your responsibility to hold and blame yourself for your failure!

I gave the preamble above so as to provoke your thought and wake your subconscious mind. One thing we should understand is that as we waste time grumbling and doing nothing about our lives, time is going and the quality of that certificate you are carrying about is depreciating, age is a worrisome factor in the labour market now, so, what are you doing about your unemployment status??

The unemployment rate and status in this country is truly pathetic, in the true sense of employment, only 20% of us are employed, majority of us who raise shoulders that we have jobs are under employed, while the rest are unemployed.

Let me tell you a bitter truth today, if you think you have one uncle or someone somewhere who will help, my brother, you are just wasting your time, 98% of people who renders sincere help in life are strangers or someone you are not related in anyway, the rest 2% may now be family member, so, take your mind off that and get your thinking refreshened.

Let me give some simple principles from my understanding and experience. If you are unemployed take this simple steps, and see if your life won't change for the best in the shortest possible time.

1. Do as much fasting and prayer as you can, seeking God's mercy, favour and divine connection.
2. Go out everyday corporately dressed and go to environments where you could meet people that matters, in fact, you can go into any office, ask them what they do, and how would they compensate you when you bring customers, from there, you've created a platform for meeting new set of people in your life.

3. Watch the company of friends you keep, now you need to consciously chose your friends, chose those who could help your career or motivate you to be great

4. Stop saying I'm not a marketer, if you can't market your self, who will market you? Who will buy/ employ you?

5. Read as much motivational books as you can and see how many billionaires in the world rose from nobody to somebody, follow their footsteps,.and see what comes out of it.

6. Engage in a creative thinking, look for a particular problem of the people and how you can provide solution to it, so that money can move in your direction, there is no how you have what people need and they won't pay for it.

All these are my little contribution to make CHANGE in this country. I wish we are all successful in life....that's my sincere wish, and it shall come to pass.

Love you all.

How do I get a project completion certificate ?thank you
databoy247:
Yes, because what matters most is your area of competence evidenced by previous work done, project completion certificate, etc. If you are bidding for a job on I.T, at least your corporate profile should carry enough of that plus your staff must be competent in that area too (talking about their professional profile).

BusinessRe: It Pays To Guide Your Business Secrets by bosunjohns(m): 1:01pm On Jan 06, 2015
Ymodulus:
Guarding your business secrets and confidential Information is advisable and imperative in order to prevent improper disclosure of your mojo to competitors or the public. Secret formulas, drawings, ingredients, Manufacturer's contact are all information that should be protected and never released just for free.
Too many, diluting the words of the first paragraph, would sound as a big shock, noting the fact that I have been known since time immemorial for sharing contact details/ formulas / secrets / working drawing of past- ongoing - future business deals that i have carried out successfully in the aspect of importation. Too some, at the sight of the topic will say to themselves either subconsciously or not. Ymodulus has learned. Well yes I have.

These are my reasons;
1. Favor For Favor
2. Monopolistic Behavior even when they were given such ideas on a platter of gold.
3. Some make more than u the originator, and not even remembering u

1. Favour for Favour
If you belong to the class that a favor given today will not directly or indirectly pave the way for a favour tomorrow, then you are dreaming. Even in the Holy Book of the Bible, David protecting Nabal’s cattle and expecting food in return, Jesus – Christ and God sacrificing their life and turning back to punish humans in the name of freedom of choice are both epitome examples of favour for favour.

Example 1:
This happened between me and a supposed – internet friend. November 2nd this month.

Friend: Hi! Ymodulus am Bleep from nairaland. I got your contact.
Ymodulus: Ok. How can I help u?
Friend: Please can you help me with any seller details for PlayStation 4? I saw on Alibaba but am scared as negative comments.
Ymodulus: Guy do not risk your money buying PlayStation 4 from china, they will sell you fake one of 64GB telling you its 500GB.
Friend: So please how do I get a good one?
Ymodulus: Ok call me later in the evening I will send you the contact of a trusted Seller. Also I will give you someone that will help verify the PlayStation after paying before it leaves China
Friend: Thanks so much
** Friend begins praises and eulogies **
***** I sent him all the contacts same day for free and without asking him even recharge card***

This Occurred Wednesday, 9th of November.

I tried contacting my PlayStation 4 Seller and found out I misplaced the contact. I quickly checked my Phone contacts and call this Unknown Nairalander.

Ymodulus: Hi afternoon its Ymodulus.
Friend: I know na. Afternoon boss
Ymodulus: Bros abeg I lost that my playstation 4 seller contact wei I give u. Abeg u fit send me back the contact?
Friend: *** Begins to stammer ***
*** Ymodulus calling and calling to plead for the contact***

Friend: Guy abeg, u go find me something to send u this contact o.
Ymodulus: Ok I will transfer you N1000 to go to café or get data. Send me your account details
Friend: I MEAN U GO BUY THE CONTACT. U no say na money u and me wan make
Ymodulus: ***** so shock couldn’t believe my ears. Hung up the phone ***
********** Long story Short I got the contact back via another means. Through the Q.I *****

Example2:
This Happened yesterday.
A close business partner, gave out a contact to A FRIEND OF MINE sometime, now went back to ask that FRIEND OF MINE for his belt seller contact. See the conversation that ensured.

Business Partner: Oga abeg u fit help me with ur contact for ITEM XXXX ?
FRIEND OF MINE: Sorry oga. I no fit make I no lie u.
Business Partner: oga na me be Ymodulus friend wei give u my top Glass seller best clone
FRIEND OF MINE: I no na ** even begin to describe my close business partner further **
FRIEND OF MINE: U should understand that a business contact, 1 business contact can fetch you millions…. Bla blah blah and should not be given out for free. As it’s a business secret.
FRIEND OF MINE: U can tell me the belt you want, and send me the money I will help u buy
**** Long discussion and lecturing of how sharing contacts are bad continued. Phone Hung up ****

2. Monopolistic Behavior even when they were given such ideas on a platter of gold.
This is something that I experienced twice. Once with some group on Nairaland and second time of recent.
You give a lady your personal Kitchen Utensils Contact. This same lady then goes behind you asking your manufacturer that she wants to be the only sole Nigerian distributor. Also other Nigerians coming through her (Including I the Nigerian who gave her the contact).
Why are Humans this wicked? I gave her the contact without even asking her a penny and she goes behind me to tell my contact that!!! .

www.nairaland.com/attachments/1900587_img20141128172358_jpeg577662fc8baec8a7123359f7d83dd152

3. People Making more Money than you will make.
All the above happenings have made me come to clearer understanding of the words Patent / trademark and likes. Before I had this text-book regurgitating definition of patent / trademark and likes etc. Lets be honest the essence of business is to make money. SkgeeBoss:
First thing is to make sure the surface of your phone's camera is clean from dust, oil or any thing that could block the lenses...

The second thing to do is activate touch capture...
The reason is cause pictures taken by tapping ur screen are much more visible and clean than pictures taken using the snap icon

Thirdly a Samsung phone's typical camera is known for being too much colourful due to high saturation...
If you fancy such then set ur image properties
to
saturation--->high
contrast--->high
sharpness (optional)---low

Fourthly go to ur camera settings and change ur iso to 100...This is to make sure ur picture is less noisy meaning if u zoom the image, the quality is still retained and doesn't feel blurry to the eyes.

After doing all these take pictures by tapping your screen...
And experience sleekness!!!
U can use ur phones camera or camera360 to do this...
Thanks.

BusinessRe: How Self Employment Can Work For You by bosunjohns(m): 9:46pm On Dec 26, 2014
Wizeboy:
Self-employment according to wikipedia, is the act of generating one's income directly from customers, clients or other organizations as opposed to being an employee of a business (or person).

There are several signs that you are meant to be self-employed, including the fact that you want more flexibility in your schedule, you don’t work well with others, you’re passionate about your work, and you’re resourceful.

Once you decide to take the big step to becoming self-employed, you have to come up with a plan. Then, once you actually get your business going, there are steps you should take to make self-employment work for you, and these steps go beyond just having your idea succeed. You also need to figure out how to make the actual state of being self-employed work without getting overwhelmed. Here are five ways you can make self-employment work for you.

1. Come up with an idea and a plan
If you are not yet your own boss, the first step you need to take to become your own boss is to think of an idea. Hopefully, if you are considering self-employment, you already have one. Once you have your idea, though, you’re not finished. You need to come up with a plan for how you are going to execute your idea.

A business plan is not just a document. It is a holistic analysis of your company, the environment it operates in, and a route map to achieving success based on the resources available. Unfortunately, the image most of us have is of a 30-page bound document. The focus is on ‘the output' when the real value in a business plan is the business-planning process itself. Business planning is an essential element of running any successful business, particularly given the growing uncertainty all businesses face coupled with ongoing changes in consumer behaviour.
Some of the importance of business plan are as follows: To plan for an uncertain future, To help grow your business, To commit to a particular course of action, To manage cash flow, To value a business, To ensure all bases are covered
As you'll have garnered from the above, business planning is an essential activity, regardless of the stage of business you're at. The very process of producing a business plan enables the business owner to give due consideration to the various factors that mesh together to create the opportunity they are seeking to explore, as well as the resources required and the key drivers needed for success.

2. Market your business continually
Once you are ready to start your business, you need to come up with marketing strategies. You need to analyze the area in which you are creating your business, or, if you are planning to market to a national audience, you need to figure out how to do that. Once you know your target audience, you have to determine how to reach them. Much of this will be done through advertising.

It’s important to heavily advertise when you start your business, but it’s also important to continue to use marketing strategies as your business grows. Don’t assume that if you have a successful start, your business will continue to be successful. Often businesses grow via word of mouth, so it’s also important to make sure that you are keeping your customers or clientele happy, as well. There are many free online advert site in Nigeria now, in which you can also use to promote your products or services.

3. Get support
Financial backing is crucial to the success of many businesses. Unless you have a lot of extra money and you are willing to take a big hit if your business doesn’t succeed, you will need help. You can start by asking your friends and family, but don’t put pressure on them. You also can try recruiting business contacts or people who will have a vested interest in your business plan.

You can also consider taking on a business partner to lessen the financial blow and the responsibility. When inviting a business partner, make sure such person is a visionary person, who know that business success is a gradual process and not what you expect to start reaping 100% profit in the first month of the start-up. If you already have your own business, continuing to network and maintaining relationships with key investors is also very important.

4. Be flexible
Flexibility is important when you are trying to create an idea, establish a plan, implement the plan, and then succeed as a self-employed worker. Things will not always go as you expect. It might take longer than you anticipated to complete all the logistical aspects of starting a business, or you might not get the financial backing that you need as fast as you would like. One of your investors might need to back out after you already started the business.

Anything can happen, and being flexible and maintaining a good attitude will help you keep working hard to make sure you succeed. You also will need to be flexible about the hours that you work. If you are used to a 9 to 5 job, it may take time to be comfortable working at all different times and sometimes having to put in many extra hours. Infact working extra hours should be the hallmark of a business owner who wish to achieve success in his business.

5. Choose the right employees
Perhaps your business needs will be completed entirely by you, in which case you won’t need to hire anyone. If this is the case, you will need to make sure that you maintain a steady work ethic, that you keep a competitive attitude, and that you are extremely organized and take time management seriously.

If you do hire employees, take time to really choose good ones. A Curriculum Vitae is not enough to tell you everything you need to know about a potential employee. Often people who write strong cover letters and follow up letter can be separated from other applicants who are not serious. If possible, you can also implement trial periods for new employees.

Most important, make sure that the person you are hiring can really do what you need him or her to, and that he or she is a person that you are willing to work regularly with. While the idea of your business is important, your employees may make or break your ability to be self-employed, because they will be doing much of the work and client interactions themselves.

If you have the drive to plan correctly, the motivation and organization to implement your plan, and the financial backing and right employees to succeed, you may be on your way to a long career as your own boss.

Wizeboy:
You could be wondering, sitting on the fence with an idea or a desire to start your own business. Inspiration to start a business comes through many different sources and not all reasons are valid enough to pursue a business.

For instance, bragging/showing off or getting fed up of being answerable to your boss all the time isn't the right reason to start your own company. Because when you do, you are then answerable to your employees, customers, partners/investors, etc.

So, before you do take those first steps, you must know the landscape where your feet will land on. Being aware is the first step towards taking the right decision.

Your Business Must Solve a Problem

Whatever you decide to do as a business, always start with a problem that a specific category of people have or one that you have encountered yourself. Do not start up because market research states great potential for your industry.

Go the extra mile in finding out what challenges people are facing, and then build your product or service to address that. Nearly every successful company built to survive, solved a problem for a defined group of people. For example, Dropbox solved the problem of syncing files across multiple devices. WhatsApp solved the problem of messaging (without incurring messaging costs) across multiple phone manufacturers.

Procrastination is Dangerous/Startup Killer

* “Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone” ― Pablo Picasso

The first step of starting a venture is to start one. If you want to start your business, shut up and start up. If you don't act on your idea today, someone else is bound to stumble up on it and take it to market before you can.

No idea is unique until it is executed, for the difference lies in the execution than the idea. Google wasn't the first search engine when it was launched. There were many others. But what differentiated Google was its execution (algorithm) of the existing idea.

The day you decide to startup, is the day you should take the plunge. There is no right time or moment to start your business and you will never be able to imagine all the possible things that can go wrong even before taking your first step. Cross that bridge when you get to it.

* “Procrastination is the thief of time, collar him.” ― Charles Dickens, David Copperfield

Failure is One of the Prerequisite of A Business

* “Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” - Robert F. Kennedy

If you are going to startup, you are bound to fail. For in failure are life's little secrets. For in failure is where you will discover a pivot that can make your product or service successful. Angry Birds was the 52nd attempt that finally made it for Rovio. PayPal was Max Levchin's fifth attempt at entrepreneurship that finally won him the things he deserved. So embrace failure.

You cannot learn to ride a bike by reading how to ride one. You've got to hop onto one, fall a few times, but then you get up and hop on again. And only then will you gain the confidence and the balance to ride free. This is exactly how it works in startups too.

* “If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with anything original.” - Ken Robinson

Capital is a Bane

This holds true for mainly tech ventures. The more money startups have had in their initial days, the more mistakes they have made. So it's a good thing that you do not have capital to startup as you wouldn't foolishly hire professionals more than you need or rent a fancy office space, which is irrelevant on day one.

If you want to start a product company, bootstrap. Pool in your resources from savings or borrow from friends or family. There are many more ways of raising money to build your product. But importantly, get a proof of concept done (outsource if you must) and get some traction before you take it to investors.

If you plan to start a services business, then get your first client, and then hire a team to work on it or simply outsource. Deliver a fantastic service and then work your way into setting up your own team.

So, here having established the ground for taking your first steps as an entrepreneur. This was the easy part. The hard part is to quit your job and take the first step. And the day you break free, that is the day your fears will be laid to rest. Because, that's the day you've just learnt to take your first step and there's no stopping henceforth.

“Everything you want is on the other side of fear.” - Jack Canfield

LordRhot:
(1). If you believe that you must always have the last say in an argument, you are not ready for marriage.

(2). If you don't like anyone invading your space, you are not ready.

(3). If you're a lady, and you don't cook or don't like to,your marriage is not likely to be easy or funny.

(4). If you always say things exactly how they come to your mind not caring who is hurt, your marriage is likely to crash.

(5). If you believe you are who you are and no one can change that, you're not ready.

(6). If you think about others when you've fully sorted yourself out, you're not ready.

(7). If you are so good about holding a grudge and you will only let go when you feel like, stay unmarried.

(.8.). If you're a man and you are not engaged in ventures or a process in time that can financially take care of your immediate family and
beyond, you need to give yourself a few more years to be ready.

(9). If as a man, you're easily swayed and pressurized to do things against your wish, you are not ready for marriage.

(10). If you believe that women at best should be good in bed and kitchen affairs only, you will end up having a bitter and subdued wife;stay away.

(11). If your mind can't conceive the thought of having a more successful wife, even if it is temporary, then you have little growing up to do.

(12). If you have no confidence in your capability and your future, you have no business taking someone else with you.

(13). If as a man,you don't have a mentor or leader you follow, listen or defer to,you're not going to be able to lead your family.

(14). If you can't have wedding ceremony within a budget you can personally afford, give yourself more time. Who says you can't have 20 guests or less at your wedding? Cut your coat according to your cloth and take responsibility. As a man, you can define how small or large you want your wedding ceremony to be and be able to handle it.

(15). If you have anger problem such that you can destroy things when you are angry, get a therapist to help you in managing it. Otherwise engage God's help for the change you seek. With anger issues, you're a disaster waiting to explode.

Marriage is an investment, what you put into it is what comes out of it!
