TravelRe: Exciting Things To Do In Lagos Besides The Regular Weekend Clubbing, Others by bosunjohns(m): 10:20pm On Jul 14, 2015
bidesco:
Exciting Things to Do in Lagos

Ever wondered what else to do in Lagos besides the regular weekend clubbing, visiting the cinema and beach? There is nothing wrong with the regular weekend activities. It just gets boring and uninspiring after having to repeat them for a while. If you would like to explore new avenues, then you should try these

 Go Karting

This is one way to have great fun with friends and families. Go Karting is a safe recreational activity that will give you that childlike adrenaline rush. Having arguments about who the fastest driver among your friends is? Well, go find out at the GET Arena track located a walking distance from Four Point Hotel in Oniru Estate, Lekki.

 The Art way

Spend time relishing the beauty and soul of Lagos in an artsy environment. The Jazzhole at Awolowo Road in Ikoyi is a great place for you to get soaked in a mix of good music, African artwork and books. The live jazz band at the Jazzhole will have you coming back. Depending on your preferred location, you can visit Terra Kulture in Victoria Island, Nike Art Gallery in Lekki or Osh Gallery in Yaba. Even if there is no ongoing art exhibition, you will still get to see their collections and interact with different art lovers around.

                                                           Casino

Seeing the Las Vegas casino scene in movies can be very thrilling. If you would like to have a feel of the games, go to the Federal Palace Hotel & Casino in Victoria Island. The casino has a lot of slots and table games such as American Roulette, Casino Hold’em Poker and Black Jack.  For those interested in learning the gaming skills, you can participate in the Federal Palace Casino Learners Night.

                                               Dance/Aerobics

Dance is a good form of exercise that gets you sweating out the weeks’ stress even as you have so much fun. You can simply just clear a space in your house, play your favourite dance playlist and get dancing. To make it more effective and social, it is better to join a dance or an aerobics class.  There are a number of aerobics studios in Lagos you can register with.

 Nature Walk

Take a trip to the Lekki Conservation Centre located along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. The centre, covering 78 hectare, houses a number of animals such as monkeys, crocodiles, birds and snakes. Delight in the stunning reserve vegetation and take up the challenge to climb the tree house and walk through the canopy walkway. The canopy walkway, at 22.5m high and 401m long, is the longest in Africa. To enjoy the panoramic view of the reserve area, make sure to take the canopy walk.

Artsy, nature lover, fitness or casino game enthusiast, where have you covered. Before you get bored of Lagos, you should visit these places and share your experiences with us. Did we miss any fun activity you are already enjoying? Do let us know too.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: How To Answer That Pesky “tell Me About Yourself" Question In An Interview by bosunjohns(m): 11:28am On Jul 11, 2015
equlibrium:
What seems like such a simple question can really make you sweat, especially in an interview. What, exactly, should you share—not just to build rapport, but toshow that you’re the perfect fit for the job?

Fear not, job seekers: There’s a super-simple formula that will help you answer this question with ease. Watch this quick video as our CEO Kathryn Minshew gives a simple tip from our career expert Lily Zhang, then try it out for yourself!

How to Answer “Tell Me About Yourself”

So, the first question you’re probably going to get in an interview is, “Tell me about yourself.” Now, this is not an invitation to recite your entire life story or even to go bullet by bullet through your resume. Instead, it’s probably your first and best chance to pitch the hiring manager on why you’re the right one for the job.

A formula I really like to use is called the Present-Past-Future formula. So, first you start with the present—where you are right now. Then, segue into the past—a little bit about the experiences you’ve had and the skills you gained at the previous position. Finally, finish with the future—why you are really excited for this particular opportunity.

Let me give you an example:

If someone asked, “tell me about yourself,” you could say:

“Well, I’m currently an account executive at Smith, where I handle our top performing client. Before that, I worked at an agency where I was on three different major national healthcare brands. And while I really enjoyed the work that I did, I’d love the chance to dig in much deeper with one specific healthcare company, which is why I’m so excited about this opportunity with Metro Health Center.”

Remember throughout your answer to focus on the experiences and skills that are going to be most relevant for the hiring manager when they’re thinking about this particular position and this company. And ultimately, don’t be afraid to relax a little bit, tell stories and anecdotes—the hiring manager already has your resume, so they also want to know a little more about you.

Good morning Agriculturists,

I've been moved by going through various researches both from this website and via Google to begin a snail farm.

My snail farm is not really a farm as per say. It is just a bucket where the snail will be raised till maturity. To avoid the infestation of insects, ants and diseases, my snailery will be suspended in the air with ropes like a playground swing.

Pictures will follow up later.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Important Sections Of A CV That Must Be Included by bosunjohns(m): 5:54pm On Jul 06, 2015
Benjom:
The vital information that your CV ought to include are as follows:

Your Personal Details: Add your name, contact address, phone number, email address and professional social media contact (if you have any). If it’s a ‘Skill Based CV’, you may not need to include your date of birth, because of age discrimination concerns but for ‘Chronological of Functional CV’, this may be crucial.

Personal Profile or Objective: This, in most cases, should align with the job you are applying for. It’s important that you include this. Try as much as possible to avoid the use of the personal pronoun ‘I’ and being vague.

Significant Achievements: Don’t just be vague about your achievement(s). Be specific! For example, ‘I won several clients/customers’ (wrong)... ‘Increased client base to 250 over a period of 3 months’ (right).

Career History: Usually, you start with your most recent job first and make sure that dates are included including months. For example, April 2014 – June 2015... November 2011 – Present.

Qualifications and Training: Start with the most recent and move down ( to high or secondary school level). Although, some claimed that ‘Primary School’ attended should also be there. To most recruiters, that’s insignificant.

Interest and Activities: Include these only if they’re relevant to your skill or the position being applied for.

Additional Information: Here, if you have explanation on particular areas of your career e.g. gaps in your career history. This is where you give such tangible explanation.

In conclusion, Your CV and Cover Letter are very important in securing you that job you so desire. How you craft them would definitely go along way in determining your placement. Sell your skills and experience by making sure that these documents are intact and catchy. With these, job-wise, the sky is your limit.

Feel free to add other important sections that you feel should be included.

PhonesRe: How To Know If Your Phone Charger Is A Fast Or Slow Charger; Simple Physics by bosunjohns(m): 5:53pm On Jul 06, 2015
eddyland:
Your phone charger might be a slow charger or a fast one. If you charge your phones with fast chargers, you will definitely enjoy charging phones in this epileptic power nation.

Now here is a simple visual physics experiment that you can do even now to know whether your phone charger is a slow or fast charger.

Pick up that your charger now and look at the output power ratings; if you see 5V----1A or like this 5V----1000mA or anything less than that 1000mAh, then you shoulgld immediately know that you have a slow phone charger. But if you see 5V----2A or in this format 5V----2000mA or more, then you have a fast phone charger.

EducationRe: My Name Is OR My Names Are,which Is Grammatically Correct? by bosunjohns(m): 12:42pm On Jul 04, 2015
MizMyColi:
well, here's my reasoning...

In a sane world, no body has just one name.
The family is the smallest unit of human interactions and an emotional centre of sorts.

We'd all be lost if we had no family to identify with, which explains the reasons a sane human would normally crave for a sense of belonging....

Now this family you belong to has a name, that is first and foremost, who you are.

Which is why you don't hear people like Khloe Kardashian saying, "I am a Khloe"...but you can hear her saying "I am a Kardashian"
There's something about pedigree that speaks volumes of the stuff you're made of.

In other words, your surname and your name are dependent on each other and actually function as ONE when it comes to introducing yourself in a formal/semi-formal setting.

So, I'd rather go with my name IS Margaret Thatcher.
As far as identifying me is concerned, none is complete without the other.
I am Margaret and I'm a Thatcher.
In other words, my name is Margaret Thatcher.

"My names are" should, or, can be used when you need to make known your different names/titles, which to a very large extent are independent of the other.

For Example;

His name is Jehovah Elshaddai.

And

His names are Jehovah Elshaddai, Jehovah Tsidkenu, Jehovah Shammah, Jehovah Nissi.....
Respectively.
You catch my drift?
wink
