Christianity EtcRe: Understanding The Concept of Tithing by brocab:
What is written on my page you don't understand? Is this still the tithing page? Anyway I will answer you-Plus you had forgotten the other meanings to the word fulfil, fulfilled, fulfilling, Achieve or realize [something desired, promised or predicted. Fulfil to bring into actuality effect-fulfilled their promise to carry out{ an "order" for example} To measure up to satisfy. You need to look at other meanings to the words, Taking it from one Greek word does not answer your demands. And "who" is my neighbour? My turn to write. You say: Christ ended the law, Teleo to an "end" complete.
Matthew's record of what is commonly called the sermon on the Mount.
These words of Jesus are recorded: Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them.
I tell you the truth, until Heaven and Earth past away, one jot or one title will no means pass away, from the law until everything is accomplished" Matthew 5:17-18.
It is frequently argued that if Jesus didn't "abolish" the Law, then it must still be binding. Accordingly, such components as the Sabbath-day requirement must be still operative still. Along will perhaps numerous other elements of the Mosaic Law. This assumption is grounded in a misunderstanding of the words and intent of this passage.
Christ did not suggest here that the binding nature of the Law of Moses would remain forever affect. Such a view would contradict everything we learn from the balance of the NT. {Romans 10:4; Galatians:3 23-25; Ephesians:2-15.
it is especially important note how the word is used in Matthew 5:17. In this counter "abolish" is set in opposition to fulfil. "Christ came".. Not to abolish, but to fulfil. Jesus did not come to the earth for the purpose of acting as an opponent of the law.
His goal was not to prevent its fulfilment. Rather he revered it, Loved it, obeyed it, and brought it to fruition, he fulfilled the laws, prophetic utterance regarding himself, Luke 24:44.
Christ fulfilled the demands of the Mosaic Law which called for perfect obedience under threat of a "curse" Galatians 3:10-13.
In this sense, the purpose for which it was given. If, however, the Law of Moses bears the same relationship to men today, interms of its binding status, then it was not fulfilled, and Jesus failed at' what he came to do. On the other hand, if the lord did accomplish his goal, then the law was fulfilled, and it is not a binding legal institution today.
Further; if the law of Moses was not fulfilled by Christ-and thus remains as a binding legal system for today-then it is not just partially, binding, rather, it is totally a compelling system. Jesus plainly said that one "jot or title" {representative of the smallest markings of the Hebrew script} would pass away until all was fulfilled.
Consequently, nothing of the Law was to fail until it had completely accomplished its purpose.
Jesus fulfilled the Law.
Jesus fulfilled all the Law.
We can not say that Jesus fulfilled the sacrificial system, but did not fulfil the other aspects of the Law.
Jesus either fulfilled all the law, or none of it.
What Jesus' death means for the sacrificial system, it also means for the other aspects of the Law.
openmine:
do you understand what the word "fulfil" meant in the scripture matthew 5:17?

i suggest you check up the greek word for "fulfil"...but let me help you...the greek word for the word "fulfil" is teleó: which means to bring to an end , complete .... came to complete the law of moses in order to bring it to a conclusive end....
Romans 10:4 was clear about this...lets find out;

4 Christ ended the law so that everyone who believes in him is made right with God.

furthermore,Galatians 3:21-29 further affirms how christ "fulfilled" the law of moses by putting it to an end once he was revealed;
pay close attention to the bolded..
21 Does this mean that the law works against God’s promises? Of course not. The law was never God’s way of giving new life to people. If it were, then we could be made right with God by following the law. 22 But this is not possible. The Scriptures put the whole world in prison under the control of sin, so that the only way for people to get what God promised would be through faith in Jesus Christ. It is given to those who believe in him.

again focus on the bolded....
23 Before this faith came, the law held us as prisoners. We had no freedom until God showed us the way of faith that was coming. 24 I mean the law was the guardian in charge of us until Christ came. After he came, we could be made right with God through faith. 25 Now that the way of faith has come, we no longer need the LAW to be our GUARDIAN. (REALLY?? YES INDEED smiley )

26-27 You were all baptized into Christ, and so you were all clothed with Christ. This shows that you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 28 Now, in Christ, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Greek, a slave or free, male or female. You are all the same in Christ Jesus. 29 You belong to Christ, so you are Abraham’s descendants. You get all of God’s blessings because of the promise that God made to Abraham. Galatians 3:21-29

you might ask,if the laws of moses has been abolished, are we NOW free to commit adultery or to kill or to commit evil?
far from it?
Galatians 5:1-6 says
5 We have freedom now, because Christ made us free. So stand strong in that freedom. Don’t go back into slavery(under the law) again. 2 Listen! I, Paul, tell you that if you start following the law by being circumcised, then Christ cannot help you. 3 Again, I warn everyone: If you allow yourselves to be circumcised, then you must follow the whole law. 4 If you try to be made right with God through the law, your life with Christ is finished—you have left God’s grace. 5 I say this because our hope of being right with God comes through faith. And the Spirit helps us feel sure as we wait for that hope. 6 When someone belongs to Christ Jesus, it is not important if they are circumcised or not. The important thing is faith—the kind of faith that works through love.

Galatians 5:13-14 (Pay close attention to 14)
13 My brothers and sisters, God chose you to be free. But don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do what pleases your sinful selves. Instead, serve each other with love. 14 The whole law is made complete(fulfilled or brought to an end) in this ONE COMMAND: “Love your neighbor the same as you love yourself.”

So my question to you should be..who is your neighbor?

We don't receive our views from self motive , every scripture is written in the bible, this information didn't come from man, it came from the lord God himself. A steward is one that speaks the truth, willing to support and help lead those who are lost. There are two different doctrines being preached, which one are you?
akinademayowa:
I honestly would have loved to write much on this matter of tithe, but I hate arguments, because arguments can never resolve an issue.every body will just. contribute his or her own views about something, and nobody will want to accept that another person is either right or wrong. but know that God has not called us unto confusion, neither is He the author of confusion. I think one of the greatest problem the church and individual Christians face today is. that we have too much knowledge. this one has his own view about something, that one also. have his own different from the other, and each of us wants to convince every body that it's his own that is correct because he received it by a kind of revelation. That's nonsense. the word of God is simple and direct to understand. moreover, the Christian life isn't a life of "what somebody did,I also must do",it's not a life of rules and regulations of any sort, and it's not about the necessity of doing or not doing something. if it's paying of tithes that God considers before he can bless a man,it means the tithe payers should be on the list of world's richest people. whereas I'm not against tithe, yet I'm not saying u "must" or u "should" be paying tithe. those who emphasize tithes in the church are just blind to spiritual truths in the Bible.check all of them, the only passage they can quote best to support tithe is Malachi 3:8-10 or So.....to cut my words short, the Christian life is about living according to the will of the spirit. do u know that if for example you collect your salary, and God ministers to you to give the whole of every thing to a nearby person who is in need, but u just take 10% and pay in the church, you have. not obeyed God and your tithe is unacceptable? our problem in the church is that, most of our So called pastors have made us church-ward in all our doings, all in the name of doing or giving to the work of God.read the Bible very Well, even the old testament, you will realise that God demanded from Israelites three. different kinds of tithe, one for the priests /levites, one for the whole of the people, all of them to gather all their tithes and use it to feast before the Lord, and the third for those who are less privileged....if you understand what stewardship is,,you will know that there's Nothing you have or gain that is yours.how many times have you made a profit or collected your salary and you call unto God in your privacy to present the money to him that he should direct you on how to spend every penny Of it? yet That's what should be our attitude if we are children of God. personally I don't emphasize on tithe,I prefer telling people to present their all to God and let God direct them on how to spend it.thats true stewardship.
Christianity EtcRe: Understanding The Concept of Tithing by brocab:
Can't you read. Jesus never done away with his father's laws, Jesus fulfil the laws. Galatians 3:10-14. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse:Curse is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law. {Do you yourself follow all the laws}? V's 11, But no-one is Justified by the law in the sight of god" For the just shall live by faith. V's 12, YET THE LAW IS NOT OF FAITH. V's 13, Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the LAW. V's 14, that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the spirit through FAITH. You surely don't read you bible, and Jesus came to fulfil the laws as its written. And if you study the bible yourself you will also see the changers in the laws. Think about it' the OT says if your son is stubborn and rebellious the parents have the rights to stone him to death. Would you do that? And if you committed adultery, You will be put to death, John 8:4-7 The scribes and Pharisees brought to him a woman caught in the very act of adultery V's 5, Now Moses in the Law commanded us that such should be stoned" V's 7, Jesus in the NT said: those who don't sin cast the first stone. In Matthew 5:17-18, Do not think that I came to destroy the law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfil. Which means Jesus had made a better path for us to follow. Find the truth. it will set you free. And tithing was one of those old testament laws, Jesus had fulfilled.
boxer022:
What you are saying is that since Christ came to do away with the laws his father gave to His people. Which means that God and His Son Jesus are in enemity or they do not agree. God said inm the Bible that before he says any word, that word is refined seven times by him. God also that instead of any of his words which He spoke not to be fulfilled, Heaven and Earth should pass away. Talking of Sabbath, the same bible said that Jesus Christ is the Lord of Sabbath. All of the laws which God gave in the Bible, He said that they will be to the end of time. Christ been the Son of God cannot come and or do away with His Father's laws, as Christ and his Father are at peace
Christianity EtcRe: Understanding The Concept of Tithing by brocab:
grin Tithing was made for sinners, And Jesus wasn't a sinner cool
KLand:
I believe in tithing. But I don't agree that we should be forced to give it. God loves a cheerful giver. God is not a beggar. If you can't willingly give God 10% of your increase, you may as well keep it.

Those who don't give tithe should stop criticising those who do. And if you are not giving God your tithe, then what are you giving Him? You can't say you love God without givng to Him.

So whether we give God tithe or not, we are all accountable to Him. Everything He gave us are in trust; we are stewards of the resources God put in our hands. Titheing is one of the ways we appreciate that privilege.

It pays to pay your tithe. I am a witness!
Christianity EtcRe: Understanding The Concept of Tithing by brocab:
No-one is criticising anybody on this tithing page. Theirs truth written in the bible, and theirs non-truth, clearly the lord has told us he came to fulfil the laws, which he did. Have you heard a eye for a eye, a tooth for a tooth, in the old testament the meaning of it is written in
Leviticus 24;19-20, If a man causes disfigurement of his neighbour, as he had done, so shall it be done to him. Fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has caused disfigurement of a man, so shall be done to him. Jesus fulfilled the law by changing God's old testament law.
Matthew 5: 38-39, You have heard that it is said: An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. V's 39,But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But who ever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. So you see. Jesus had fulfilled the laws.In the old testament there were 613 laws to obey, tithing and sacrificing the forgiving of sins. was one of them. Jesus also fulfilled that law, and from tithes' we now "give through faith" Not tithe through faith.
Galatians 3:10-14, For as many as under the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written "Cured is everyone who does not do continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them. V's 11. But no-one is justified by the law, the just shall live by faith. V's 12, Yet the law is not of faith V's 13, Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law.V's 14, That the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the spirit through faith. If we were to follow the Old testament laws in today's world, there will be no-one left to worship our lord. Those day's if you have a stubborn and rebellious son/daughter who will not obey the parents, in those old laws" they were stoned to death. And look at most of our children today are all rebellious. And if anyone who commits adultery with another man's wife, shall be put to death. Jesus again fulfilled the law changing it in, John 8 3-7, Then the Scribes and Pharisees brought to him a woman caught in adultery. V's 5, Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned, but what do you say. {Jesus changing the law} said: in V's 7, He who is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone. and in V's 10, when Jesus had stood up he asked the woman, where are those accusers of yours? V's 11, She said: No-one Lord' And Jesus said: neither do I condemn you.
God does love a cheerful giver, but Jesus done away with tithing. He fulfilled the laws, as it is written.

We are the seeds by faith, not by tithing. We are sharing the same blessing through faith, not by tithing. And Abraham didn't become rich from the spoils of war. Genesis 14: 23 that I will take nothing, from a tread to a sandal strap and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, "I have made Abram rich..And why Jesus didn't mention the tithing in the NT, Because he had changed the old covenant to the NT covenant..
daniwealth:
My dear,Tithing is not bribe is a scriptural principle,is True Jesus never talked about Tithe, but we are made to understand that we are seed and descendants of Abraham,Abraham was the first to pay tithe and that was the secret of the wealth and Riches of Abraham,so we need to follow in that pattern to enjoy the same blessings of Abraham.is stingyness that makes some people speak against tithe, giving 10% of my Increase and keeping 90% for myself, wont make me Poor.those tithe are used to finnance and Funds the Church.

Theirs a good scripture to this, in Matthew 17;24-26, Those who received the temple tax {tithes} said: to Peter "Does your teacher not pay the temple tax. V's 25, Peter answered and said: yes" Jesus asked Peter saying "What do you think. Simon? From whom do the Kings of the earth take customs or Taxes, from their own sons or from strangers? Peter said: from strangers. Jesus said: to him, Then the sons are free.
foxychev:
Cut the crap please. God's kingdom is about father and children. Have you ever seen a prince or princess paying taxes to the king?
Tithing is not meant for christians.
Christianity EtcRe: Understanding The Concept of Tithing by brocab:
I have something for you. There are 613 laws back in the old testament and since tithing was a sin offering. I can name just a few, Genesis 17: 10-12, This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you; Every male child among you shall be circumcised; and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you.
Deuteronomy 21:18-21, if a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or his mother V's 19, his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of the city V's 20 the parents would complain about their son V's 21 all the men shall stone the son to death with stones so or Israel shall hear and fear.
Leviticus 20:9-10, For anyone who curses his father and mother shall surely be put to death. V's 10, The man who commits adultery with another man's wife, shall surly be put to death. Jesus {fulfilled} changed this law as well. Look up John 8:3-7, When the woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. Those who don't sin cast the first stone.
Leviticus 19:27-28 You shall not shave around the sides of your head, nor disfigure the edges of your beard. V's 28, You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you. V's 30, You must keep my Sabbaths.
Leviticus 4:34-35 The priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offings with his finger, put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and pour the remaining blood at the base. V's 35, He shall remove all its fat, as the fat of a lamb is removed from the sacrifice of the peace offering. Then the priest shall burn it on the altar, according to the offerings made by fire to the lord So the priest shall make atonement for his sin that he has committed and it shall be forgiven him.
Leviticus 16-30, For on that day the priest shall make atonement for you, to cleanse you, that you maybe clean from all sins before the lord. We don't seem to follow those laws any more, "do we." Why? Because Jesus came to fulfil the law, changing the O/Testament covenant laws under God, to the N/testament covenant laws under Christ. So theirs many scriptures from the OT to the NT, that are the same, But through Jesus they are handle"d a different way. No-one stones his son/daughter because of disobedience, anymore. do they.
Galatians 3-10-14, For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the 'LAW" V's 11, But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident", for "the just shall live by faith."V's 12, YET THE LAW IS NOT OF FAITH, but the man who does then shall live by them. V's 13, CHRIST HAS REDEEMED US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW, having become a curse for us. That the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the spirit through faith..
Hebrews 10:5-12 Therefore. when He came into the world, He said: Sacrifice and offering You did not desire. But a body You have prepared for me. V's 6, In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure. V's 7, Then I said: "Behold, I have come-In the volume of the book, it is written of me-to do your will, O God,' "V's 8, Previously saying, "Sacrifice and offering, Burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them" {Which is offered according to the law}.V's 9, Then he said: "behold, I have come to do your will O God," He takes away the first {covenant} that he may establish the second {covenant} V's 10, By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ-once for all.
V's 11, And every "PRIEST" stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same Sacrifices, which can never take away sins. V's 12, Jesus had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God.
Jesus said: he came to fulfil the law, In John 8:3-7, the scribes and Pharisees brought to him a woman caught in adultery. V's 4, they said: to Jesus. "Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. V's 5, Now Moses, in the "LAW" commanded us that such should be stoned, But what do you say?" V's 6, But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground, V'S 7, So when they continued asking him, He raised himself up and said: to them, He who is with out sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.
So there it is, "Evidence" Jesus had fulfilled the law.
boxer022:
If you read the Bible very well concerning tithing you will see the blessing associated with it. Abraham being the father of faith obeyed God by tithing. Talking about Abraham circumcising his sons and himself, God gave it as a command to him that all male children born to him are to circumcised on the eight day. In the world today, circumcision is still going on. If you doubt me ask any igbo man. The Bible made it clear that whoever is a male and is not circumsised will not enter into any gathering of God's children. Talking about offering burnt offering to God, Abraham was a Jew and did according to the instructions which God gave to him. In the world today burnt sacifices are still being made to that same God that called Abraham, his son Isaac and grand son Jacob. Jesus Christ our saviour who came on earth to die for our sins made it clear that he did not come to do away with any law of God rather to fulfill them. I will like to ask you a question, you said since Christ came to fulfill the laws of God and for that there is no other law, do you steal, or commit adultery or kill? If your answer is no, I will like to know why because as you said Christ has fulfilled the law and thereis no other one left, you should have been at liberty to do things anyhow you mind not minding. I will like you to know that Jesus Christ did not come to earth to cancel his father's law athe both of them are one. Christ said that no one can go to his father except through him. This shows that Father and Son are at peace.
Christianity EtcRe: Understanding The Concept of Tithing by brocab:
You are fooling yourself, the only people receive the tithing blessings are prosperity preachers. These preachers now say tithing is NT doctrine. Christians are not under the OT law.{Torah} We are now under the law of Christ. In the OT God had poured out his blessings yearly on the Levi priest the poor and the needy. So could you point out where in the O/Testament tithing was changed from bringing your food into the storehouse, to feed the levi priest, the poor, the widow's, the fatherless, the strangers, and the hungry. And where does it say in "YOUR" bible, tithes is now "Money," Many use the scripture of Mal 3 you are cursed with a curse if you don't bring your tithes into the storehouse, but it still don't prefer to money? And yet in the O/Testament tithing was set up as food to feed the needy.{Here comes the twist} Now the poor, the widow's, the fatherless, the strangers, and the hungry. are now forced to pay tithes, given the words from these preachers, if you don't pay you will be cursed with a curse. So could you clear this up? So us Non-tithers, can see if we are following that same doctrine in the N/Testament huh And to make it clear for you. We non-tithers have no problem in giving.
ayo4dworld:
God help us! I dont know why Christians find it difficult to give. I am yet to find a place in the bible that talks about Christians not to pay tithe (pls share if you have any scripture in mind).

The Scriptures can not be interpreted with wordly wisdom, neither can it be understood if the HolySpirit did not guide you through. Nobody is forcing anyone to pay tithe, if you are not conviced, don't pay, read and study the bible on tithing, then pay if you are convinced. It's not your duty to confuse people not to pay tithes because you are not convinced paying tithes. 10% is not too much for God, and the 10% will not make you die before the end of the month.

You are expected to pay 10% of your increase/income. I don't expect a person that doesnt work/ have business/have not received any gifts to pay tithe like the OP has said.

God does not need your money, it is His house that needs it. Moreover, if you don't give you are only dealing with your self, u don't expect d blessings of tithes to work for you when you don't pay it

At every month, the parih renders the account and remit to the church HQTR the remaining which is used for the expansion of the church at the camp and for evangelism.

We will pray for you, seek some help, is their any counselling at your church. Ask the lord to show you the truth, ask him to show you "love." No-one is against the church of God' but there's not many "churches" out there, who "don't" teach the tithing messages. But those who do" are preaching against our lord, it is not scriptural in the NT, Christians are not under that old testament law-{TORAH} We are under the law of Christ. 1 Corinthians 9:20-22 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; and to the jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews, to those who are under the "law"that I might win those who re under the law;

to those who are without law," as without law {not being without law toward God" but under law toward Christ} that I might win those without law..So now you see the law was only for the Jews, in the OT, and the tithing law was one of the 613 laws. Try to pray, and ask the lord to show you the truth. The truth will set you free.

First question are you a born again believer, all are you religious? And next question? Do you work? Or are you so desperate that you don't earn enough money at work? That you are willing to lie about the truth, "JUST" to gain Monies, from the poor, the widows, the strangers, the fatherless, and the hungry. And yet the tithing system in the OT was never the way it is today. And are you willing to deceive innocent people, God's people, for "GREED" {Money} are you willing to take that risk" have you no fear in God-and yet Its God who decides where one spends Eternity." You are risking your life to help support those spreading another doctrine, Galatians 1:6. I marvel that you are turning away so soon from him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel. Do you follow the other 612 laws written. And if your child shows disobedience towards you, do you stone him/her to death. Are you a prosperity preacher, or maybe a strong supporter' one who's willing to stand behind them. Because you feel the lord's word in the NT isn't good enough? "TO OBEY." If tithing was in place today' the lord would have said so, Christians are not under the OT law {TORAH} But under the law of Christ. But instead he changed the Old covenant law which was tithing, to a new covenant' Christ came back to full fill the law' to a free will giving. Your choice..Repent-Its heaven or Hell.

Two different words tithe and giving, a tithe means percentage, giving can mean less or more. Giving is from the heart, and tithing was a law. And as quoted we are no longer under that law. Read Galatians 3-10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse. V's 24. Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

GIVING GOD

"Bring ye all the tithes into the store house, that there may be meat in mine house and prove me now herewith, said the Lord of hosts if I will not open you the windows of Heaven" (Malachi 3:10)

There is nothing that excites people like a vision to give something special to God. Study great men of God in the Bible, you will find that they have been great givers. The best way to start is to give your life to Christ unreservedly. "My son give me thine heart and let thine eyes observe my ways" (Proverbs 23:26). That is the only way your giving can be acceptable.

Make it a habit to give God your talent, tithes, time, and material resources, among others. There is nothing as nice as being a cheerful giver. When you give according to God's will, there will be provisions in the house of God, and He will open the windows of Heaven, and shower abundant blessings on you. Even for the youth, it is more blessed to give than to receive.

Challenge: "There is no mistake as great as the mistake of not giving to God?"

Prayer: "Lord makes me a cheerful giver in your House."

Further Reading: 2 Corinthians 9:7

Quotation: "It is more blessed to give"

I came from a village to the town. My village supposedly the most developed among the many around because we are privilaged to have a federal road run through it don't enjoy internet facility though I have one in my office. Will you take the gospel to people who has no internet to them through internet? I live in the real world, I don't live in the internet though I have it in my office.

Abraham was a prophet but he paid tithe to a priest.

Levi after collecting tithe is commanded according to the law of Moses to pay tithe, I don't think this made him any less than a priest. We need to understand that priest is an office and no a person.

Tithe is Gods way of proving for his church.

I hope the internet doesn't stop you from going to church?

My advise, you shouldn't spent more than 20% of your active day on the internet.

Will you give your tithing to the poor? Would you feed your flock? Would you visit me in prison? Would you help me, I'm a stranger, I'm poor, I'm hungry, I'm in prison? Would you help me, birds have nest, foxes have holes, I have no place to rest my head. Will you help me?
striktlymi:
Now to the crux of the matter...

The question: How do you pay your tithe without offending God?

The simple answer to that question is to draw up a monthly personal budget that is skewed towards achieving that purpose. Drawing up a feasible personal budget entails a lot more than what meets the eyes. It is very useful for planning our short and long term income and expenditure but sadly very few people plan how they make and spend money.

A personal budget will help one avoid situations where you spend money but have no clue where the money went, hence passing the blame to one poor innocent old woman in the village. As it regards the topic, it helps the individual spend wisely on his or her family, have enough to pay tithe with less worries and also enough savings in the account.

Ideally, our monthly savings should not be less than 50% of our monthly net income. If yours is less than 30% then you should take drastic measures. One way of doing this is adopting a plan based spending culture, such that you spend in line with your income stream or less. A personal budget will help you achieve this.

Open up your eyes and ears, no-non tither has asked you for any tithes'{Monies} The lord has made an open door for us all, we don't have to leave the comforts of our homes" we can now travel all over the globe, without the tithing messages being said? Why would anyone want to give a tithe to other preachers? When its not scriptural. Revelation 1-6,1 Peter 2-9. The lord has "ordain" us all, as "priest" of God. So if I gave you a tithe, and you gave someone else a tithe, and everyone gave and received a tithe, What then? So I prefer to give all I have' By spreading the word of God, through the internet to all the nations. And theirs no tithing Monies needed. So I say, keep your 10% {Money} and give it to the poor. Do what "Jesus" would do. And theirs no man blessed more then the other, we are all equal in the sight of the lord.

THE GATE OF HELL AGAINST THE PROSPERITY OF THE CHURCH OF GOD

Zechariah 1:17, "Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of host; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.

The church of God doesn't spread through poverty but through prosperity. If so, how then do prosperity come to the church of God except through increasing the sources of our tithe and by stopping the devourer from afflicting us.

The major reason while some are against tithe is because they are against the spreading of the word of God. There are other reason I will speak on later.

Psalms 35:27, "Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

God doesn't have pleasures in people against his righteous cause. People who sees the spreading of the cities of God as evil.

God takes pleasure in the prosperity of those who diligently pay their tithe for the spreading of the cities/churches/gospel of God. They will always shout for joy and be glad because they favour God's righteous cause and not that of their pastors.

Those against the paying of tithe are against the church of God. But I decree, they shall not prosper in the name of Jesus Christ.

'He...gave some to be...pastors.'
Ephesians 4:11 NKJV

Pastors have a tough job. They
get more kicks than kisses. If a
pastor is young, he lacks
experience; if he’s grey–haired,
he’s too old. If he has five kids,
he has too many; if he has none, he’s setting a bad example. If his
wife sings in the choir, she’s
being forward; if not, she’s not
dedicated enough. If he preaches
from notes, he’s dry; if his words
are impromptu, he’s too shallow. If he spends too much time in his
study, he’s neglecting his people;
if he makes home visits, he’s not
a good time manager. If he’s
attentive to the poor, he’s after
public approval; if he attends to the wealthy, he’s ingratiating. If
he suggests improvements, he’s
a dictator; if he doesn’t, he has no
vision. If he uses too many
illustrations, he neglects the Bible;
if he doesn’t use enough stories, he’s unclear. If he speaks against
wrong, he’s legalistic; if he
doesn’t, he’s a compromiser. If he
preaches for an hour, he’s windy;
less than that, he has nothing to
say. If he preaches the truth, he’s offensive; if he doesn’t, he’s
wishy–washy. If he fails to please
everybody, he’s hurting the
church; if he tries to please
everybody, he has no
convictions. If he preaches tithing, he’s a money–grabber; if
not, he’s failing to develop his
people. If he receives a large
salary, he’s mercenary; if he
doesn’t, it proves he’s not worth
much. If he preaches on a regular basis, people get tired of hearing
the same person; if he invites
guest preachers, he’s shirking his
responsibility. Wow! And you
thought your pastor had an easy
life! How’d you like to change places? Bottom line: love your
pastor.

Many of the lords believers have been sharing the written truth from the bible on this page. And still you that tithe, have not looked up any scriptures given' by our lord. but still prefer to argue about certain verses in the bible? Every verse has a story to it, don't just read one verse but read the story. But all I can see is the blind leading the blind who tithe. Listen the people who are writing to you on this forum, are speaking the truth, they are trying to help save your souls. Don't be fooled by these prosperity preachers. By any preacher-pastor who preaches on the tithing messages. Open up your heart, and allow the lord to show you these truths. Everyday Christians are entering HELL, why? because they chose to follow that other doctrine on the tithing law. I pray you will seek the truth, save yourselves and others around you.

Truth is, some people will NEVER agree with the abolishment of tithing; they are more willing to continue paying than take some time and discipline to study it for themselves. It's human nature! Very few people have the temerity to question the validity of teachings held sacrosanct for centuries. It's human nature.

I have tried to educate some people, and I was shocked to see people are willing to defend ordinances that can't the litmus test of the Scriptures.

I'm still digging deep into a lot of issues I have held so dear to myself. This is the era when everybody MUST study God's Word for themselves.

I used to feel guilty whenever I skipped paying my tithe; not any more.

I started studying the tithe issue when I discovered none of the Apostles sanctioned it in their epistles.

I challenge any pro-tither to give us his reasons using christians and not the high priests. So many idiotic christians do not even know that issues related to tithe formed part of the reasons christ was gruesomely murdered and christians martyred. The priests were angered because judizers were being converted therefore reducing drastically the number of people paying tithes to them. The orchestrated and masterminded the murder of the christ, giving life to a real murderer in his stead.it is tantamount to wickedness and satanism for a pastor to stand in a pulpit supposedly belonging to jesus christ and laying claim to be representing a jewish priest because he wants 10% of peoples sweat. Why must you represent people who killed your master and at the same time deceive people that you are working for the same master?.Can anybody tell us why these pastors never claim to be representing the apostles?. Galatians 3-10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse, for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them. But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for 'The just shall live by faith." Yet the law is not of faith, but "The man who does them shall live by them." Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us {for it is written, " Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree."} that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the gentiles in Jesus Christ, that we might receive the promise of the spirit of faith. V's 19 What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of the mediator. Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one. Is the law then against the promise of God? Certainly not" For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. But the scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith is Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. BUT BEFORE FAITH CAME" we were kept under guard by the LAW, KEPT FOR THE FAITH which would after ward be revealed. Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. BUT AFTER FAITH HAS COME, we are no longer under a tutor. So their you have it, are you by promise of faith, or are you under the law. And tithing was a law.
vooks:
Am really liking the way WOFers shift the burden of proof;
-' nowhere are we commanded NOT to tithe therefore tithing is cool'
-'nowhere are we commanded NOT to command Angels therefore we can command them'

But this line of reasoning can be applied to so many things and lead to absurd practices being incorporated into Chriatianity. For instance,
-nowhere are we told NOT to pray facing Jerusalem,
-nowhere are we told NOT to offer free will offerings that have nothing to do with sin (why not offer Bulls in this manner)

A more sane approach should be dissecting all scriptures with Angels and observing their manner of interaction with God's people whether in NT or OT.
1. Are there incidences of angels being put under man's command?
2. Do we have records outside the scriptures of the primitive church where this was practiced?
3. When FIRST did this doctrine of commanding Angels emerge?

As I woke up this morning the lord gave me psalm 49 to read. I'm reading it from the NIV Bible
Hear this, all you people's;
Listen all who live in this world, both low and high, rich and poor alike;
My mouth will speak words of wisdom; the mediation of my heart will give you understanding.
I will turn my ear to a proverb; with the harp I will expound my riddle:
Why should I fear when the evil day's come,
when wicked deceivers surround me-those who trust in their wealth and boast of their great riches?
No one can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for them-the ransom for a life is costly,
No payment is ever enough-so they should live for ever and not see decay.
For all can see that the wise die, that the foolish and the senseless also perish.
Leaving their wealth to others.
Their tombs will remain their houses forever, their dwellings for endless generation, though they had named lands after themselves.
People, despite their wealth, do not endure; they are like beast that perish.
This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers, who approve their sayings.
They are like sheep and are destined to die; death will be their shepherd {but the upright will prevail over them in the morning}
Their forms will decay in the grave, far from their princely mansions.
But God will redeem me from the realm of the dead; he will surely take me to himself.
Do not be overawed when others grow rich, when the splendor of their houses increases;
for they will take nothing with them when they die, their splendor will not descend with them.
Though while they live they count themselves blessed-and people praise you when you prosper-they will join those who had gone before them,
who will never again see the light of life. People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beast that perish. quote author=chysam post=27479388]

Many believers know the truth in all this? And many don't but chose to believe the lie. There are too many false prophets, aiming to deceive the elect. I also have heard that some preachers in churches have taken the tithing lie to a higher level, not only a 10% tithing, but many are now asking for the 11% taxes to be paid also. In some countries, they had made it the law for everyone of the land to pay taxes in churches, as well as their tithe. We hear more on the tithing scrams from these con-merchants, more then we hear about any other crimes committed within the churches. And else where?

MY SUBMISSION ON F8:TITHING

Bring ye all the money into the church offering plates
that there may be cash enough for ‘God’s anointed’!

We hear or read it all the time: ‘Bring in all your tithe into the God’s storehouse!’, ‘God gave HIS best for YOU, so you should give your best to Him!’, ‘Give so that the windows of heaven will open with BREAKTHROUGH MIRACLES for you!’ etc The coining of such propaganda statements is never-ending.

Tithing was instituted under the Mosaic Law. At the first Council in Jerusalem, which dealt with whether the Gentiles were required to OBEY the Mosaic Law, the divine position was this: “For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you NO GREATER BURDEN THAN THESE requirements: that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.” (Acts 15: 28-29).

How come then that many leading preachers particularly in the WoF movement aggressively push the issue of tithing with the carrot approach and where that does not seem to work for them go for the STICK? Is that position given by the Holy Spirit at the Jerusalem Council still relevant for today or has it been set aside? The issue for the Christian therefore is this: “Whose report will you believe?” Is it the position of the infallible word of God or the teaching of men? If the word of God says ‘no burden’, whether of tithes or firstfruits, etc and man says ‘You must pay tithes, firstfruits, etc’ which one do you want to choose no matter the eloquence in presentation or glowing testimonies of results of following man’s methods? The issue is that of either freedom in Christ or a yoke of slavery by men.

One of the most tragic aspects of this Word of Faith movement is that most of the people involved have never taken time to really study to see if the doctrines of the movement have Biblical support: they have simply brainwashed themselves into accepting the propaganda spewed out to them. This in my opinion is truly unfortunate.

Why did God institute the tithe?
The tithe was used basically to feed the Levite priests (and their families) who were required to work in the temple day and night ministering to God on behalf of God’s people.
Numbers 18: “21 “I give to the Levites all the tithes in Israel as their inheritance in return for the work they do while serving at the tent of meeting. 22 From now on the Israelites must not go near the tent of meeting, or they will bear the consequences of their sin and will die. 23 It is the Levites who are to do the work at the tent of meeting and bear the responsibility for any offenses they commit against it. This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. They will receive no inheritance among the Israelites. 24 Instead, I give to the Levites as their inheritance the tithes that the Israelites present as an offering to the Lord. That is why I said concerning them: ‘They will have no inheritance among the Israelites.’”

1 Chronicles 9:33: “33 Those who were musicians, heads of Levite families, stayed in the rooms of the temple and were exempt from other duties because they were responsible for the work day and night”.

In contrast to the other tribes of Israel who were given land as their inheritance, the Levites were not given any land. God was their inheritance – Numbers 18:20: “The LORD said to Aaron, “You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them; I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites”.. As a result, the other tribes were required to provide the Levites with food since they had no land of their own to farm on. This provision of food for the Levites became the tithe.

Now, when it comes to the church, has God specifically given this same kind of instructions? The answer is NO! Is there anyone in the church that God has commanded today not to do any other work but work in the ‘temple’? The answer again is NO! In fact, there is no physical temple for the church today. Rather the individual believer is now the temple of God – “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?” (1 Corinthians 6:19). The much application we can make is that, if tithe were still obtainable today (and it is not so), the place to bring it is to the individual believers. Again, which of the tithe proponents preach this today? None!

It must be noted that there were later on other types of tithes which others ate from and the fact that NOT ALL IN THE LAND of Israel paid tithes.

We shall examine below some of the arguments advanced by tithers and see how far they conform to the Word of God.

The “Abraham paid tithe to Melchizedek” Argument (Genesis 14:18-20) – Tithing by ‘faith’?
Abraham’s tithe to Melchizedek is used as a justification by pro-tithers for the Christian to tithe. The mention and link between Melchizedek and Jesus in Hebrews 5 – 7 is also used by them to rationalize its import into the New Covenant. However, a close look at Hebrews shows that the author is NOT writing in support “tithe” though it is talked about a number of times. Instead, by comparing Jesus to Melchizedek the writer is EMPHASIZING Jesus as our eternal high priest/king. Nothing in that portion suggests the need for or a continuation of tithing. In fact, the writer of the book of Hebrews actually talked about the end of the Levitical priesthood under which the issue of tithing obtained. Another thing to note from Genesis 14:18-20 is plainly that Melchizedek did not ask Abraham for a tenth of the plunder. How is it then that today’s ministers can read Genesis 14:18-20 and use it to ask for tithe, when Melchizedek did not ask for a tithe? In addition nothing in the Genesis passage suggests that God gave it as a command to Abraham to tithe as He did with circumcision.

The “God Does Not Change” Line of reasoning
Some others say that since God does not change the tithing He instituted still stands for today. But is this really so? While it is true God does not change, it is a poor argument to use on behalf of continuing the tithe. It is true that God does not change but first, what does that mean? Does it mean once he institutes a system he is not at liberty to change it or that his NATURE is unchanging? Secondly, if the reasoning that “God Does Not Change” is a valid basis to keep one part of the Law – the tithe – then it is a valid reason to keep ALL of the law ( see Galatians 5:3 ). Then we should have Burnt offerings and sacrifices on the altar of every church! Even tithing of money is totally alien to Scripture so then we should not tithe money. Why should anyone use that argument to justify keeping only ONE aspect of the Law.
When God set up the LEVITICAL PRIESTHOOD He set aside the previously existing system of family priesthood: So God can change a system. When the Levitical Priesthood was instituted EVEN A KING could not take up the priestly function as we find in Uzziah’s case in 2 Chronicles 26: 16 – 23. It was that serious to God.
Believers are now under the New Covenant of Grace, and are subject neither to pre-law customs, such as in Abraham’s day, nor the ordinances of Mosaic Law. Those dispensations are past. Only deceitful preachers still claim we’re under at least ONE of the 613 laws of Moses! Why the focus on ONE of the laws without clear explanation as to how that one law still stands and the rest have become obsolete (since none of the rest is pushed by them as they do tithing)?

Rebuke of the Scribes and Pharisees case
Jesus reprimanded the Scribes and Pharisees for painstakingly giving a “tithe/tenth” of their “mint, dill and cumin”, while disregarding the more important matters of the law: “justice, mercy, faithfulness (Matthew 23:23).

Once again, there are several problems with using this scripture to support the tithe as applicable to Christians today.
• Giving a different interpretation of “mint, dill, and cumin” (food items) to mean “money”. Why convert food items as tithe to money as tithe?
• Jesus was speaking directly to the Scribes and Pharisees – who are Jews – under the Mosaic Law – and obligated by the Law to tithe. Jesus was NOT talking to Gentiles (non-Jews).
• Jesus makes it clear that the "tithe" is a "matter of the law". Since Christians who are “In Christ” have fulfilled the law in Him (Colossians 2:8-23) the Law is NO LONGER applicable to Christians.

On the issue of the threat of death and hell
Many of the WoF preachers in Nigeria have used this threat approach to coerce their hearers or readers to pay tithe. Name ANY of the famous names in the Word of faith movement worldwide or here in Nigerian and you see those who use this ‘guerrilla’ tactic to pressure Christians to pay tithe. They put believers on guilt-trip even where the Scripture says they have been called into freedom.
If the Christian were still required to obey any portion of the law for him to avoid death or hell, then the death of Jesus on the cross did not pay the full price for sin. In that case we cannot say ‘Jesus paid it ALL!’ But it should be clear to any Christian that our salvation depends on faith alone in Christ alone and not upon the observance of any law. Why therefore any minister will teach anything in the law as the spiritual life for the church makes one wonder whether these are ministers of the New Covenant or of something else. Yet Paul clearly stated in Galatians 3: 10 – “For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse …” (SO WHO IS REALLY UNDER A CURSE ACCORDING TO THE NEW COVENANT?) Galatians 3:11 – “Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith” So again the question is: ‘If refusal to do tithing will take one to hell what does that say of Jesus’ death on the cross?’

How come no tithe preacher does Acts 2:44, 45 and Acts 4:35?
Here the Bible says “And all who believe were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and DISTRIBUTING THE PROCEEDS TO ALL, AS ANY HAD NEED”(Acts 2:44,45); “And laid it at the apostles’ feet, AND IT WAS DISTRIBUTED TO EACH AS ANY HAD NEED” (Acts 4:35”
We see that whatever was received by the church was shared with all, at least those who clearly had needs. But no tithe preacher today does this; rather he would be the one to determine how to use it for ‘ministry work’ which almost always excludes the believers who are right there with him in the local church.
Many prosperity preachers present the idea that ministry requires physical structures - vehicles, buildings, equipments, etc. Maybe, but those items and ministry are not the same. Those items do not accomplish ministry - people accomplish ministry. In fact, the church did not have physical structures until hundreds of years after it began. The reality is that if each believer in any congregation is equipped to do ‘ministry’ work through the taking in of sound doctrine more results will come to such a local assembly than ‘organized’ programmes.
How come no preacher of tithing emphasizes the fact that church age believers are all ROYAL PRIESTS and so are equally qualified to share in or receive of the tithes that come into the church? After all, is we are to apply the OLD TESTAMENT setting it was ONLY the priests and Levites that received tithe, therefore Christians as God’s royal priests today should ALL share in the tithes.

What the Law demands
For those who choose the route of keeping the law, of which tithing is a part, God’s requirement for getting a pass mark is 100% adherence to ALL the requirements of the law. This was the point James 2: 10 makes clear – “For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it”. The Law required strict adherence to ALL its tenets. Whoever keeps most of the law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it. So, failing in one point, as far as the law was concerned, means breaking ALL of it! Therefore any Christian today who keeps one or two aspects of the law such as tithing and thinks he is accepted by God on that basis is making a big mistake. So if you tithe, you are obligated to keep the whole law. That is what the Bible says. Maybe you can now begin to see the seriousness of this matter!

No Apostle wrote the church to tithe
Apostle Paul, the writer of the book of Hebrews, Apostles Peter, James and John all wrote to church age believers, yet not one of them wrote on this issue of tithing that many today claim will be of great “blessings” to the Christian who practices it or some others say can be a “curse” that could take the Christian to hell when not done. How did they ever come to miss out on this so “important” matter?

The plain truth is that all that is truly critical or important for the Christian way of life has been given to us in the writings of these apostles. On the other hand anything not given to us by these men but propagated today as critical to the Christian’s spiritual life is man-made and will be wood, hay and stubble at the evaluation throne of Christ.

The Christian stands on a better footing today
The giving of money by the Christian is part of his worship of God. In giving then, the Christian is expected to stand upon the grace relationship he has with God (2 Cor. 8:1, 7) not on any forced system.

The guideline for Christian giving to God today is found in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7: "Now this I say, he who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully. Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver."

Those principles in the law still required for today are certainly found in the New Testament epistles. And in the epistles we find that tithing, like Sabbath observance and animal sacrifices, is never imposed on the believer. To the extent that tithing IS NOT PRESCRIBED ANYWHERE IN THE NEW TESTAMENT EPISTLES we can safely say that it is no longer compulsory for the Christian today.

To insist that the Christian (not the Jew or Israel) is required to pay tithe today when no portion of the Bible states so is a great perversion of scripture. To seek through all kinds of gimmicks to force the believer to do that which God himself has not stated is nothing but downright EVIL.

I REST MY CASE ON F8, FOR NOW.

Yes you're right Jews don't believe in Jesus, because they still held on to some of their laid down laws and tithing is not one of them.
They even paid their tithes during the time of Jesus, so Image123, what has not believing in Jesus got to do with tithing.
