Amujale:That's like claiming Abrahamic religions are not subject to evolution. I beg to differ. |
Amujale:"Ancient Egyptian Mythology" was not destroyed by the Romans. The Egyptians had completely forgotten their history and their myths were all over the place long before Romans arrived in Egypt. It was in fact this lack of organising of information which led to Egypts destruction and latter to the search for knowledge as noted in the building of some of the greatest libraries being built in Egypt. One sees the same destruction of our lesser organised (religious) knowledge and our adoption of western ways. Or do you see anyone seeking healing from osanyin instead of calling a doctor on a foreign made phone? My own opinion is that these later myths are what, after suffering from the curse of forgetfulness, misunderstandings, misinterpretations, mistranslations and various agendas; became the Bible as we know it today. Its why I ask if you ever imagined a world without even that. It's not as if as many as learn the little they can from Christianity would learn anything from "Ancient Egyptian Mythology", or would we, in your opinion? No, I do not agree that the point to consider is as you claim, "that Rome created Christianity out of the copying, plagiarism and fabrication of different concepts and philosophies around the world and sought to destroy the source of those concepts by ways that has been identified earlier", because the link I posted shows "copying, plagiarism and fabrication of different concepts and philosophies around the world" long before Romans did. The Egyptians, and everyone else created their gods and the smarter copied, plagiarized and fabricated from the different concepts and philosophies around the world and sought to build up concepts of their own from them. And the consequence is initially always the destruction of the less well armed (with books and knowledge in this case), until the conquered learn to think and reason, instead of just 'believing'. As for the bit about pagan gods, derogatory, I get you, though I do not use it with the negative connotation you do, since I'm aware that Osiris, Apis, Zeus, Dionysus, Helios, Hades and Asclepius were all fiction and not real, just like Christ, who's mythology or unrealness is as irrelevant as their's, and who shall be refered to equally as derogatively as a "pagan god" by generations to come. I don't find it wise to ignore the 3000 or so years of religious evolution and concentrate on Romans. |
Amujale:I did read the link properly! A "potential for a transitory relationship between the various gods", it says, from "Pagan Gods (7) Osiris, Apis, Zeus, Dionysus, Helios, Hades and Asclepius 3000 BC - 305 BC", to "Graeco Egyptian Gods.Serapis.Christus 305 BC - 325 AD", to "Christian God Jesus Christ (formerly Iesous Christos) 325 AD - Today". This clearly shows an evolving line of assimilation as one would expect amongst people in contact with each other who reflect and learn, which is the sole consequence of religion as a tool for organising people. |
Amujale:Read the link I posted on the subject. It shows the origin of Serapis Christus as Egyptian. Or shall I say, my understanding is that it is. Correct me if I'm wrong and post sources please. |

The only claim you've made on this thread is that Jesus is fictional, and there is actually insufficient evidence for the truth of that statement and nor have you provided evidence further than assertions. You do know that some have done more research than you, actual historical, archeological etc work, and published books on the subject some of which some have also read, who can't yet decide if Jesus was real or not? Why woukd you think your assertions on a faceless forum is superior? It is a 'Christian' attitude to believe the words read in a book and allow others to create crap in your head. And the worst of 'Christians' ask others to believe their assertions or the crap they make up and believe in their own heads! You don't know me so keep creating crap in your head to believe. Amujale: |
Amujale:Yet, we read fictional Things Fall Apart, and Animal Farm. Do the fictional beings in those do nothing? |
Amujale:There's no way all I write is gibberish. And if you take your time, you'd see that. Christianity, or shall I say, the Abrahamic Religions, evolved out of Africa as syncretised in Egypt. Its a historical fact, and is pretty much what you are saying, though correct me if I misrepresent you. It's also fortunately detailed in biblical mythology, the unfortunate commonly known 'history' of the time. It wouldn't have been, if the earlier African writings had spread, but unfortunately, it didnt. The Egyptians had a priestly class who kept knowledge to themselves which over time died off with them such that latter Egyptians believed superbeings came down from heaven and wrote the hieroglyphs and built the pyramids. If only they had educated the masses to read those heiroglyphs, can you imagine how great Africa would have been? Today, even, millions of us do not yet know anything about Egypt, or our own local history. And you fail to see that that is where the Bible comes in, to show what a story of a people looks like abd teach you how to discover your own. If we had not learnt yo read it we'd be further back in development, is my opinion. You mentioned my view of Christianity earlier on, so I'll oblige, for what it's worth. I personally think it is a religion that is very easily manipulated by individuals sometimes for the good and for bad, but on the whole its done quite a lot of good considering the increase in life expectancies in nations that have adopted it. Yes, Christianity's history is murky - walls of Jericho, Tower of Babel and the referenced in Scripture error of the Egyptians as narrated in the story of the Garden of Eden: a story of liberation distorted into the basis of enslavery "by the Romans" you would say. (And funny, I keep saying, because I see what you mean but wonder why you don't seem to wonder why the Jews themselves, long before the Romans, decided to tell Biblical myths to "deceive" themselves if not so they could have a record of their historical past as they knew it so that they don't get forgotten in history like the Egyptians were and have their dead dug up and paraded in museums like the Egyptians are, but have eternal peace like their book teaches them to have.) There is a reason Jesus is said to have asked what truth is. An innocuous question but loaded with meaning and implication. A person who has not read would not know the sort of things you call truth. Christianity solves a problem Egypt had, and that still continues to destroy us today. Any God that asks anyone not to eat of the fruits of the garden of knowledge of good and evil is a tyrant, and a devil. And people who believe their gods tell them not to eat of the fruits of the tree of knowledge and evil will live shorter lifespans. I'm going to do humble with you. Kindly recommend reading material on your topic so I can do home work please and accept my apology for insulting you. I did not mean "crap in head as an insult". It means things one choses to believe in one's head, as opposed to the things one has learnt by the use of ones senses; the latter being what I accuse you of if you'd pardon my choice of meanings. |
Amujale:Nairaland rules do not require a post be to the person who responds. Others come here to read too, thankfully. And since this thread was created by me you should expect me to respond to as many posts as I wish to however I want. You don't know my stance on Christianity. And no one is arguing with you. Nor was "crap in head an insult", as implied by my addition of "mind". But I guess one can be misunderstood so let me help you. The Bible, which is what Christians worship, is a book, and books are not fake, even if they are historically, and in other ways, incorrect, and especially mythology, which a lot of the Bible is. And if the Romans did give the Bible, or anyone else for that matter, I'd be rather grateful to them personally. Just the thought of not having anything to read scares me. The intention of the Bible is not to deceive, as you claim, but for one to learn skills of reading, and thinking, and reasoning from, and as suggested, where you likely learnt those skills yourself. Or do you see any other book being made available for people to learn from? Have you asked yourself what state we'd be in if we didn't have it? The only unfortunate here is the notion that it must be believed, but that's just an indication of the infant learning level of the reader who will go on to question their understanding someday just as you and many have done. Or would you claim to believe what you claim, instead of actually understanding what it is that you know? I'll accuse you of being a Christian again. You won't get it of course, but someday it would be understood that the peddling of belief is a skill learnt precisely from the Bible, the skill of infants who lack understanding but who will grow up and leave their childish ways someday and gain understanding. |
Amujale:You have only asserted stuff here. Stuff you learnt first by reading your Bible then going off to investigate. What evidence have you provided than mere assertions and which you ask to be believed? Do you not trust that others will come to realisation someday if you work harder at providing evidence instead of abusing people because you think you know better? I'm not surprised though. All you see a book as is something to believe in with no regard of the skills gained by reading it and trying to understand it, despite it being what taught those skills to you. |
Yes, they ought to educate you first. And please make them by asking them to. Meanwhile, here's a link. And read what ignorance of it did to my toe. |
oz4real83:Be grateful, a Nairaland thread. Its memory forever remind us. |

Amujale:You are very funny, and rather immature. Did you not learn any manners Amujale? Did no one teach you them? I wonder where you get your power to be telling buda not to quote you. Use it more. Make buda not quote you. |
According to our investigation, we gathered the conviction is a scam, the government does fly the suspected politicians abroad based on the years given to them to serve in prison."According to our evidence", yet they produced none! ![]() |
sonmvayina:We add to it because we evolved and know more. Today, we even add a lot more by going to school to learn. Or is there no Maths, History, Science and Languages in your Holy Book, and did you not go to worship five times a week? I can assure you'd need some to survive until you start in the afterlife and someone must have paid so you got some. I wonder why they did not limit you to the old Testament alone. Humans always rebel against the creator is precisely the lesson of the first rebellion against any authority, after all, one can't sin if there were no laws. |
Amujale:That's why you lobby and fight for history to be taught in our schools, right? |
orunto27:"Eternal life" but not on earth, right, since we all know dead people who are actually dead? |
xpmode:Explain "confirmation of the release of the Spirit of God" to me, and what you mean by "confirmation of the release of the Spirit of God on all flesh" please. |
Amujale:You consider such a person understands instead of "believe" that "something", though I wouldn't say I peddle since nowhere have I peddled anything to you. But if I did "peddle" anything, it surely wouldn't be to or with or for the benefit of a foulmouthed person like you. |
Amujale:They work "as tools" and you can't provide an alternative. |
Amujale: Amujale:You and vayina keep avoiding the question I keep asking which is, Do you not learn anything from George Orwell's Animal Farm because Napoleon, Snowball, Squealer, Boxer and Mr Jones et al are not real? Funny people some, who "cannot use such terminologies in association" because in their opinion, they are "false narratives", when Words that have been written are not only real but create all other things that exist. Believers, I call them. Deniers of the physical material things before them for the crap they create inside their head. Not that there's crap in your head, mind. Just that, hmm. You say Christianity has done much wrong because you see it as a belief system, and not as the education system that it is, the same education system that allows you to see as you do. Or tell, did you not educate yourself in Christianity? Would your eyes open without it? In fact, are you not a Christian? You sure as hell behave like one, asking us all to believe you without providing evidence for your claim after ensuring that we see when you present it. A believer, or at worst, one who asks others to believe them, like those pastors who peddle religion that you claim is false. Makes me wonder if you engaged at all in the thread "what would civilization be like without religion", someone will post you a link. As fiction as the Bible is; and not just Jesus alone, but Moses, Adam and Eve, Job etc, it is a book, a teaching tool, and not the God. It shows how learning evolved over time and teaches how to learn and how to teach and open eyes, and those who at least accept that the physical words themself are real, and not fiction, but a substance that exists in a physical book you'd feel if I whack your head with it. The fact that a book is fiction does not invalidate it, especially one that has been influencing thought for almost 2000 thousand years. That influence, which you are aware of, is not "fictional", obviously has "real" "character" and "terminologies" which have done quite a lot, bad and good, and you can't show that to be false, or can you? You fail to give us Nigerians credit, is what I think. In my lifetime there've been period when a family had one Bible on the mantle no one touched it except pa or the lucky one who carried it to church for him on Sunday. And now, everyone has one. Over time, more people will read it and as more time goes by more will understand what they read and perhaps consider the implications of their understanding. I wonder what we'd be if we didn't have the Holy Bible. We'd all believe the Quran I guess since something will fill the void. |
I found this. Its not an endorsement! Note it gives "beginning salary". Experienced nurses might earn more. Nursing in Dubai |
sonmvayina:Indeed that is your stand. Might I be correct in claiming your stand does not allow you to bother understanding anyone else's stand, and some are more than entertained by the stories about Jesus? |
sonmvayina:Why do you think I'd listen to the Pope, or Imam, or anyone else when I can read for myself? And like add the writings of Plato to it, or Aristotle, both of which are already added to the reading for those who can? Perhaps you still don't understand that humans shall not live by bread alone, and understanding trumps any believe. |
sonmvayina:That's the problem with you. I've been agreeing that it could be fiction but its still a book, no? Bet one of the oldest you've ever read. But instead of understand it you pressume everyone believes it. I wonder if you believe Things Fall Apart too. Perhaps understand before you assume to know what one sees. Do you know the meaning of "forgery"? Does it mean a copy that looks like an original?.And how did you conclude that one must not read only one book or one will become malnourished buda invests "your whole life on" one book? |
