OkCornel:
You have missed the point entirely.

I guess there's no reason depending on God's help if man can figure out all the answers by the strength of his own understanding.
You cannot be suggesting man should not try to figure out any of the answers by the strength of his own understanding because man is "depending on God's help"!

Why should man not contribute to God's help? Would God and man not succeed more if man tried a little?

Simple scenario is making a choice in multiple choice questions in an examination.

Where you have 5 options to choose from, but two options appear correct with all the information and analysis done from your end.

This is the simplest scenario I'll come up with.
OkCornel, the only reason I can find myself with "5 options to choose from, but two options appear correct" is precisely because the so called "all the information and analysis done from your end" is insufficient.

I would very strongly advice buda to study harder for when the Spirit of the Lord commeth. It would be very dangerous to leave such as these to intuition.

Buda, how can you make a decision in a situation where you have little to no information, but you still have to make a right decision?
Like what? Is somebody holding a gun to my head?

Is it not true that the more critical the right decision the more I should seek information?

Give me an example of the decision you have in mind.

Buda, I need to be a bit clear. Where's the covering one eye bit coming up from?

And please a bit more clarity on what you meant concerning "but that does not equate to license the man as the Lord". Because I don't see where I've put man and the Lord on the same level in terms of understanding and abilities.

Thanks.
Its complex, I guess and I'll try my best.

Intuition is how one assumes a thing to be. Its an initial understanding, the first impression we might have. Reason is the application of all the senses in gathering a better understanding of things.

Using one without the other is the covering of the eye and the hiding of a talent.

God does not give inspire those with empty heads!

That is why the Spirit of God is needed to give one understanding of the word. There's a limit to which human capacity can go.

Why cover one eye if your human capacity is limited?
And how can a person covering one eye receive from the Spirit of God?

OkCornel:
You recall what Job said about " there's a Spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth understanding".
And what is man but mud if it were not inspired to receive inspiration from the Almighty?

OkCornel:
You also recall this scripture that states "The Spirit of a man is the candle of the Lord, searching the innermost part of his being"
It may state so, but that does not equate to license the man as the Lord. You will find it a common error in the righteous. They think they are "the candle" but see not because of the forest in their own eyes.

The A Priori Argument (also, Rationalization; Dogmatism, Proof Texting.): A corrupt argument from logos, starting with a given, pre-set belief, dogma, doctrine, scripture verse, "fact" or conclusion and then searching for any reasonable or reasonable-sounding argument to rationalize, defend or justify it. Certain ideologues and religious fundamentalists are proud to use this fallacy as their primary method of "reasoning" and some are even honest enough to say so. E.g., since we know there is no such thing as "evolution," a prime duty of believers is to look for ways to explain away growing evidence, such as is found in DNA, that might suggest otherwise. See also the Argument from Ignorance. The opposite of this fallacy is the Taboo.

We should all be honest. Obamacare did not propose to take away anybody's private healthcare. The insurance companies who's exorbitant profits were threatened cut unprofitable cover.

Funny enough, it's a problem that's easily solved. If America opens its healthcare to competition like it says other's should, prices will drop. But vested interest is in the way.

It's more like also asking where God gave man the ability to tackle issues logically as well.

"Sometimes we can use either one, because the problem is so simple it doesn't much matter how we solve it."
Sometimes it is simple, but I somehow do not agree that the things of the Lord God Almighty is ever simple. Just look at the size of the Word of the Lord!

It would be like claiming to see enough with one eye so covering the other eye! What happens to the eye you refuse to use?

honestly, the only democrats i will reason with are the true liberals, i.e the justice democrats not the establishment democrats like Nancy pelosi who aren't much different from republicans, they are as guilty of enabling trump as dug in republicans, the US/isreali alliance will only be made stronger when moral standards applicable to every other relationship is expected of them, even Jews in America don't condone Israel's highhandedness given the hypocrisy implied, but then again, descendants of genocidal Western Europeans who murdered raped and pillaged thier way to a continent that was never theirs can't be expected to empathize with Palestinians fighting the underdog fight against a US enabled Israeli, so boycott, divest and sanction is the right way to go and rashida tlaib is right but who cares? A relationship vaguely beneficial to the US should be protected at all costs, even at the cost of morals because I subscribe to a middle eastern religion that originated in Judea, I am true to myself, I don't "knowingly" subscribe to hypocrisy and as much as possible admit my bias! But that's just me, many ®etards here condemned the apartheid regime of south Africa backed by same US but support the state of Israel who are actually less Christian than the Palestinians whose lands they stole in a blatant show of shameless hypocrisy

Introducing Nairaland 10 Days Book Challenge

budaatum:
Thank you op! This is wonderful. I'll try really hard not to let indiscipline get in the way and take up the challenge.

After my father told me about this book I spent years trolling book sellers on Lagos streets till I found it one day and bought it with money dad sent me weekly shopping with to his delight though we had no food that week!

Book Title: Basket of Flowers

Author: Christoph von Schmid

First encounter: 1975

Little is known about the origin of The Basket of Flowers, except that it is translated from the French by someone known only as J.H. St. A. The value of this excellent volume lies in its content, which is thoroughly God-honoring and scriptural. The story centers on a gardener named James and his young daughter Mary. Their simple, joyful life is interrupted when Mary is accused of theft. During the trial, Mary maintains her innocence and tells the truth, in spite of great pressure. But Mary and her father are convicted as thief and accomplice and begin their sentence for their crime. Throughout their sentence, James encourages Mary with lessons from nature about the gospel of Jesus Christ and continues to prepare her for what is to come. A well-written book and an encouraging tale for all readers.

It is guttenberg downloadable for those who desire to read it.

Abdulgaffar22:
It is illogical to assume that something comes from nothing because it looks magical. If some body tell you that as he was walking along the road, all of a sudden, a very big elephant just fell from space above his head and started chasing many people. Would you sincerely believe this story ? Certainly not ! This simply shows that it is illogical to believe that something just pop into existence from absolutely nothing.

Since it is illogical to assume that something just pop into existence from absolutely nothing, then the ONLY OPTION left to account for something we have presently is to assume that SOMETHING MUST BE ETERNAL.
You mean people should sincerely believe this illogical story that assumes that something magically popped into existence from absolutely nothing.

Kind of explains the atheist who doesn't believe and logically exists.

Abdulgaffar22:
4. But there is no way we can reach Today ( i:e the changes taking place presently in the universe) if Yesterday (i:e all the successive changes that had taken place in the past) is without end.
Why is there "no way we can reach today" if "yesterdays have no beginning"?

Is Today not today regardless how far yesterdays stretch into the past?

I wonder how far your own yesterdays stretch into the past Abdul.

Abdulgaffar22:
5. Since we have definitely reached Today, then Yesterday must have an end.
Of course yesterdays have an end. The end of yesterday was the start of today just as the end of today will be the start of tomorrow which will make today yesterday and make tomorrow today.

It's we who play catch up Abdul, tomorrow will definitely be.

Abdulgaffar22:
6. Therefore, if Yesterday really have an end, then follows from point number "3" above, universe is not eternal nor eternally changing.
No! It was yesterday that ended and today began. Just as the day before yesterday ended and yesterday began. When today ends tomorrow will begin. When we arrive at tomorrow today will be yesterday and tomorrow will be today. We at least expect today to follow yesterday and tomorrow
to become today tomorrow ad infinitum, so eternal it indeed must be.

And it definitely is changing. The universe was no where like this 10000 years ago, though I still wonder how far your own yesterdays stretch into the past Abdul. I hear it was colder some long past, for instance.

Abdulgaffar22:
So universe is neither eternal nor eternally changing.
Now this is an illogical jump, surprising for someone who wishes to be logical, and wants his
"following read carefully".

The universe has been here long enough for us to know it is changing, but I wonder how long you've been around to know its age and when it will stop being eternal.

Abdulgaffar22:
But SOMETHING must be eternal . This is because if there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in the long past, there is no way we can have something at this present time. And since this very SOMETHING is not universe, then it has to be an entity outside universe. This very entity outside universe is what we depicted as God.
After arguing against the eternal universe, Abdul, you now claim something must be eternal and insert your God in the eternal gap that you yourself have created. Why did you bother creating the gap in the first place if the universe that filled it was insufficient for you?

It's the straw I mentioned in my first response in this thread of an argument against yourself. I'm entertained at best. But pray tell, how old is the universe?
