Parents opposed their daughter marrying whom she wanted to marry but are glad she did marry him now 30 years later especially when their grandchildren visit.
Same parents also opposed whom their other daughter wanted to marry and now regret that daughter is unmarried and childless and a lesbian.
Parents are not always right. And the consequences of your action or inaction would be bourne by your very own self. |

Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: 2026 Midterm Elections Live! by budaatum: 6:50pm On Jan 05, 2023 |
IjeBos: Read Canterbury Tales back in highschool, forgot that reference or didn't fully understand it when I did. It's basically saying keep your distance from certain people. But without understanding the culture of the time, the expression is meaningless. Why would one need a long spoon to keep distance if you're not eating off the same plate as someone? A long table like Putin has would make more sense. No? It's generally meant as, be cautious when dealing with bad people if you must deal with bad people. You don't need any spoon to not sup with bad people you keep a distance from. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: 2026 Midterm Elections Live! by budaatum: 6:31pm On Jan 05, 2023 |
IjeBos: Yeah, explained it earlier. It's lack of cultural perspective. Raised in the US, and we don't commonly share the same plate of food. I have a friend who whenever I visit around dinner time asks me to sit down and eat fufu from the same bowl him and his wife are. I say no. I think it's weird and not sanitary.
Interesting aside: It's the same reason they say standardized tests in the US are biased against minorities. Because some of the idioms and ideas in the tests, minorities haven't been culturalized to understand. Same way I struggle with Taboo(game) in Nigeria, the majority of clues people use go above my head. It's actually from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.

psalm68: That is the essence of stable coins my dear like usdc, usdt. They are pegged to Dollar. The volatility of Bitcoin and the rest is only for investment purposes. UN jobs pay in dollar, is it not same as paying in usdc.
Opinion though. Pegged, you say. Like I peg my clothes to the washing line so the volatile wind don't blow my washing away. Remove the peg and you must please help me find my washing, because my washing can't stay on the line without the peg. It's why UN pays in dollars, by the way. It's not as volatile as most currencies. |

GRACEGLORY: Hmmm.... You make a lot of sense. You have reeeeal good points, sir. Hmmm.... I actually agree with you.
But let's look at it this way, Our naira. Why does it go up and down, side to side... Even the dollar, the pound had a bad asss fall recently and still suffering. That brings us to one thing called, Currency volatility. First, the volatility of our Naira is nowhere like that of bitcoin. For starts, Naira only goes in one predictable direction, and it's rate of going is much slower than that of bitcoin. Second, we have not lost faith in Naira. Now, if it ever becomes as volatile as the Rouble or the Zimbabwean Dollar once was, or the German Papiermark between 1921 and 1923, we'd definitely lose faith in it. GRACEGLORY: This teaches me that, in the process of time, after regulations and full adoptions, CRYPTOCURRENCY WILL BECOME MORE STABLE, AND LESS VOLATILE. If government regulates cryptocurrencies, it would not be any of those currently in existence I'd think, because they'd need to control it too, which is antithetic to Bitcoin, at least. Full adoption will be government issued crypto, like eNaira. |

GRACEGLORY: Bitcoin is simply the evolution of money. That's an opinion shared by many, but crypto is nowhere like money, yet, nor is it as secure as money. It's very unstable for starts, which makes it not "money". Just think. You got a job last year and the pay was a certain amount of bitcoin say. You'd never know what you'd earn each month as bitcoin fluctuates like mad, and you'd be yelling for a payrise now as it has plunged from heights to current not so highs. And if you were a market trader, you'd have to constantly check bitcoins value to determine how much to sell your goods for or you might sell for less than you can restock. And how would your landlord determine what your rent is in bitcoin? It would evolve there someday though, but has a bit to go, is my opinion. |

Some say go and some go, while some say come and some come, but it usually is not the same person saying come or go who comes and goes. Basically, some humans decide for themselves, while some are decided for. |
