Christianity EtcRe: As A Parent You Must Be Secure by budaatum: 7:47am On Feb 04
Had my sister and kids, g14, b12 and g8 this month came to stay for Christmas break '24, and they subbed on Amazon to play games without asking and lucky for them a friend called and advised me not to kill them when I found out on Christmas Day, I should wait till after boxing day.

After boxing day, I calm small told them they should have asked. They begged me not to tell their mother. I never. Their mother, Accountant, just japa, trying to settle, no telly in the house, learn! learn! learn! will have almost killed them herself, bless them.

They come back Christmas break '25 and do exactly same thing!

I gave them stick beat themself, as in 'beat yourself', and not that they were beating one another - gave them lots of reading and family games and going out and their school homework and played Monopoly like devil was in them and learnt to play the penny whistle and no games on my telly the 2 weeks they were here it was great fun. For me at least. They all had tablets on their own accounts and wifi full the house so they didn't starve. Or rather, I couldn't starve them.

I very am pleased for those of you who have been here for years and are now having children.

The future is bright if you train your child.

Especially the girls!.

Sorry grin I couldn't help myself.

Made Ibadan land to be cheap is your way forward instead of increasing your pay?

The wind might not quite be behind that force, if you ask me lawani.

But you can't fully. One of the reasons I had to study Latin was to be able to translate texts without the filter of a third party to be able to better understand those texts myself in regards to stuff like ancient Roman Culture. Even then, I was still translating someone's interpretation of the culture.
We only understand Roman culture through a filtered perspective of it through artifacts/texts.

But ey, I think it boils down to our definitions of "understand". For me it's much deeper than what can be read in a book.
Or perhaps more on ones ability to understand.

I, for instance would bang my hand on my chest and claim that I can understand a culture more than b can ever understand living a million years.

And I am very certain not to argue that I understand ancient Roman Culture better than you despite your "filtered perspective of it through artifacts/texts" because I can not read nor understand Latin at all.

Plus there's the fact that culture itself is not static nor stable nor constant nor seen the same way nor observed from the same persoective by everyone, or we'd all be Democrats or Republicans instead of culture wars.

Culture is very much deeper that one can indeed read in a book, which is why you yourself did not read one "filtered perspective of it through artifacts/texts", but read many.

What's funny though is it sounds like you are saying you never learnt deep enough about ancient Roman Culture because you only "filtered perspective of it through artifacts/texts" and never lived there, which may indeed by true, but you sure must have learnt deeper than me since I didn't study Latin culture at all. Don't you think?

We learn as much about cultures we have interest in and depending on our needs to know and intended use, and some we read books, and some we visit and some we haven't, is what I think. I sure got to go to a culture I want to drive in, but if I just want to ignorantly yell on Nairaland that dump is dump I can watch tiktok and talk cråp and lie like b without a care.

Double0h7:
An abortion (forced) could cause serious resentments and trauma in your wife. The impact on your wife’s mental health if you push for an abortion will be devastating; especially when she is excited about the pregnancy.

I suggest having a good conversation about finances and the importance of your wife contributing to the family finance. Then you could get a vasectomy to avoid facing the same issues again.
Mba! Mba! Mba! mikejones07, don't listen to this person!

Double0h7, abeg what is the matter with you? Why are you telling mikejones07 to cut off his d¹q? Don't you want us to read the next episode that his wife will be having twins? Be careful there and stop disturbing our entertainment please! angry

Now. What you think buda gonna think if buda done such an uncolonised "let it go" thing like that?

I don't want an apology from you bemeruca benalvino3. I don't need you to be kind to me neither. And I definitely don't need you to know that you don't have a clue what you talk about most times and just open your mouth without reasoning and bs comes out.

I tell you something though. You will look back.

And you will grow.

I want to be like this Kobojunkie when I grow up!

Kobojunkie:
1. You had all of these many reasons, yet you did not consider getting a vasectomy or at least ensuring you use protection every time you had sex as a result? huh

2. You knew all of this, yet you did nothing to protect the future you supposedly want for them? 🥱🥱

3. Well, getting an abortion would impact her body and mind in many ways. But I guess that all means little to you since the reason why you did not bother using protection yourself or getting a vasectomy to preserve your dreams is that you reasoned your body would not need to deal with any of the impacts if pregnancy happened, right? 🥱🥱

4. Seems you love everybody, but seem unwilling to do even the bare minimum, which is maybe to use protection yourself or get a vasectomy to protect anybody. Goodluck! 🥱🥱

mikejones07:
When I shared my concerns and mentioned the possibility of an abortion, my wife became very upset and started crying. I am worried that pressuring her could lead to resentment, and I do not want to force her into a decision. At the same time, I feel that my situation and perspective are not being fully considered.
Your "situation and perspective" stopped being considered by you and you know you messed up!

mikejones07:
I must say I messed up here, I too should have had a vasectomy.
But you who couldn't vasectomise yourself are now trying to pressure your wife with the same pressure you have been pressuring your wife with the pill every month since she gave you the two boys that satisfy you, is now pressuring your wife to kill the baby that is growing inside your wife that currently seems to have been inserted inside your wife's womb the baby that you put inside your wife by yourself?

Have you not heard?

You know what? I'm inviting friends of mine to come and tell you. They'd love the contradiction.

@budaatum
I appreciate the article link you added to this thread "on the lost music works" and the video throwback to the 1950s scene with Fela Special (1954-1966).

"Fela Ransome-Kuti & The Highlife Rakers - Fela's Special" truly evokes an "out of the body" experience for me. I'll have to get a full body of his works from the 1950s as well if available.

Second, I once watched an interview where the legendary Orlando Julius Ekemode (who was married to an African-American and passed on a few years ago) strongly affirmed that he is the creator of the name "Afrobeat" and NOT 'Fela. He also gave extra layers of information on how the legendary James Brown visited Ibadan in Nigeria in the 1960s where Orlando Julius Ekemode said he and 'Fela played alongside James Brown.

The popular James Brown song "I Feel Good" is in reality a sample of Orlando Julius Ekemode's original song... "Ijo Soul" from the 1960s. Another song of Orlando Julius was sampled and it won a Grammy Award in 1981 for the American guy who sampled it.

Thanks again.
If you find a way to receive it, and after I punish myself enough to replace the laptop I dropped in the bath, I will send you all I have with pleasure.

IjeBos:
You are making my point.
There is a different culture(let's use driving) in Nigeria that you have to first understand to know how to maneuver it when you land in Lagos. And it's hard to understand it if you've only lived in the UK. And if you didn't understand that culture was different than in the UK you'd try driving in Lagos like you did in the UK. Honestly, I've accepted that Lagos driving is the way it is so in order not to be super frustrated, I have a driver while I'm there and let him run mad.

I also have to be able to understand how benalvino3 reasons when I land in Nigeria, because there are a lot of people who reason like him there.
Your argument sounds like one can't understand the culture in 64BC Rome because one can not live in 64BC Rome. And the evidence for your claim is the dúnce b's here who don't even seem to have an understanding of the culture they've always lived in.

Sorry, but I don't agree. And perhaps that's because I am very not like those 2, because unlike them, I can pick up a book and learn about cultures of places I've never been, or ask Ijebos who lives in a culture to educate me about the culture of a place he knows.

As for driving, I think it would be very stup¹d and ïgnorant to drive in any country like one drives where one lives. And only a foøl would jump in a car without first observing the driving laws and culture which obviously involves being in the place since you can't drive in Lagos while in Boston.

I drive myself in Nigeria or get a cab or bus so that I can get out and walk, which I enjoy because it immerses me more in the culture, instead of sitting in traffic. I plan well to avoid traffic whether driving or other transport. And if my plan fails, it's a lesson learnt for next time.

We are different, Ijebos, so our milage differs. Take those bs and put them in a culture and I doubt they understand it any better in a million years.
